Dangggg! Round 14! Didn't realize it's been that many rounds.
That's pretty cool.

Victor moves closer towards the dog riding goblin and lets an arrow fly, hoping it finds it's mark.

Move to AJ 95. Attacking the goblin rider.

Longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4

Mid Morning Day 2 Total earned XP: 15,000

Wren's force bolt blasts the Goblin in the back, dropping it to the ground with the smell of hot flesh. Sophy takes aim and fires but the stress of combat seems to have shaken her and the bolt hits the dirt dozens of feet in front of her target. Victory has better luck as he lets an arrow fly, striking the Goblin leader in the right shoulder.

Eponine misses with her jab as she comforts the man she protects. From behind her he is muttering over and over, "Thank you, thank you."

I went ahead and included Eponine since I don't think Brocks action will affect hers.

Male Half-Orc

Bones sees the commando shoot an arrow at him and charges him, moving to AE100, sweat dripping from his forehead from all his running, raising his Earthbreaker and bringing it down on his head!

Attack:1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 2 = 24
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 2) + 9 = 14

Mid Morning Day 2 Total earned XP: 15,000

Brock charges up the street and with a mighty swing plows the Goblin off the Dog. It flies seveal feet in the air, but Brock knows from the feel of the hit the foul thing was dead before it left the ragged saddle. The Goblin Dog gnashes out at the Half-orc but the shift in weight makes its lunge fall short.

The last remaining Goblin slashes at Eponine, but she deftly doges the rusty blade.

Goblin Dog attacks Brock 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Goblin 14 attacks Eponine 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Wren moves to U 99, having a bit of dastardly fun, picking the evil creatures off. Once she gets a clear shot at the lone goblin, she fires yet another of her force blasts, or goblin dusters, as she thinks of a neat new name for her ability.

Damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Female Human Lore Oracle 5

Sophy sees the big half-orc knock the goblin off its mount with a great deal of relief. Quickly, she moves toward the battle. Double move to AF94

Seeing the goblin rider get utterly creamed by Brock, "Impressive!" He says as he moves to get a clear shot on the dog.

Move to AD 95. Attack dog.

With Brock eliminating these creatures with his mighty swings, this is probably not necessary but...

-4 for shooting into melee included.
Longbow w/PB: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Damage w/PB: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Eponine grumbles to herself I'm going to have to get a bigger blade. And take up spellcasting again.

One more thrust at the goblin.
To hit 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Damage 1d6 ⇒ 3

Mid Morning Day 2 Total earned XP: 15,000

Wren blasts her bolt of energy at the last attacking Goblin. It drops its blade and sputters its last breaths as Eponine easily slips her rapier deep into the creatures gut. Spitting blood it chokes out some last words, "The longshanks will....uhhh." Sophy closes in on the battle as victor crosses the street to take another advantageous shot. The arrow strikes true and the goblin dog yelps in pain. To help speed things up Brock slams his hammer down upon the dog breaking its spine. It shudders for a few moments on the ground before it expels its last breath.

The battle is over, the sounds of fighting have diminished around town and have been replaced with the cries of the mourning and wounded. From behind Eponine the nobleman sighs with relief. Speaking to Eponine and Wren he says"Oh, thank you thank you, thank you! If you ladies had not shown up I would have been dead for sure. I am Aldern Foxglove of Magnimar. You must let me treat you both to a fine dinner at the Rusty Dragon where I am staying. Please say I can enjoy your company tomorrow night."

As the fighting dwindles the sheriff is arriving late, sword in hand and covered in soot. "It is over, thank you all for coming to the aid of the guard. Sandpoint would have suffered much worse if not for you. Sophy are you okay?" He pauses and looks at the warriors, "You I know, Victor is your name. Didn't you train a few years back to serve the militia?." Sizing up the half-orc he adds, "You seem familiar, have you been to Sandpoint before?"

Brock attack roll 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 Damage 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9

Mister Foxglove, I would be delighted. However, I first must see if more needs to be done to see to Sandpoint's safety. I will leave word for you at the Rusty Dragon when I know for certain if I am able to attend.

With that, she quickly wipes off her blade and jogs over to where the sheriff is talking with the others.

"Assuming there are no more goblin hordes that overrun the town before then, I am up for dinner. I plan on being in town for a while, so that could be nice."

Panting, Sophy comes to a stop in the middle of Church Street. "Sheriff! Is everyone all right? Are there more of them? I...." Bending over to put her hands on her knees, she seems to suddenly notice the smear of blood on her clothes. "Oh!" Her hands go in search of the wound the goblin's blade had made in the church square, seeming ages ago.

Noticing the blood on Sophy's clothes, moving to help, he quickly responds to the Sheriff's question, "Yes Sheriff Hemlock, was in Magnimar for a few years but now I have returned home to stay. I thought I was returning to some peace and quiet, but I guess....not so much." he says with a tired smile. Then returning to the task at hand, "Can we get some help for Miss Sophy, Sheriff? There were others as well. Any idea, Sheriff, how they fared? Please tell me they survived this madness?" He then turns to Sophy, " How do you fare Miss Sophy? " He asks.

Upon hearing the Sheriff speak to Brock he turns to get a good look at him, "Brock? Is that you? I have not seen you around here, well," he pauses to think about it moment, "several years, I would guess. At least I hope I've got the right person. I really did not know him personally. I knew of him, you see, but I at least knew who he was. It's been a while, so, I'm not really sure. I hope I have got the right person, otherwise, this could turn out to be slightly embarassing."

"My name is Wren Cavalli, Aldern. Excuse me, please, I have to go check on the others," Wren says as she prepares to depart. "Oh, I don't suppose you know Master Drokus from the Sandpoint Theatre, do you? I would love to talk with him."

Male Half-Orc

With the dog's death, Brock straps his weapon onto his back. What peace have I found here? For this much violence, I should have stayed in Magnimar. Brock heads over to the sheriff to make sure all are okay.

Upon hearing the sheriff's question, "Yes, sir, years ago, I lived here, at the orphanage. I came for the opening of the church. I owed it to Father Tobyn's memory, he was a good man, watched out for us dregs."

"A pleasure, Victor. No, I doubt we hung out much in the past. There were few in town who did not fear or mock me. If you were one of those teenagers, fear not. Much has changed in the past 5 years and I shall not hold it against you."

Female Human Lore Oracle 5

Sophy has found the source of the blood, a small cut on the arm that had held her dagger and another cut that sliced through her shirt; she grabs the bloody fabric and holds it closed modestly. "Oh, it's nothing, but ... you're hurt as well," she tells Victor, pointing to the stain of blood on his own clothing and raising questioning eyes to his face.

"The pleasure is all mine." He bows slightly, "Alas, I was not one of those. But...I did know of those that did, and yet, I did nothing to stand against it." He reflects for a moment of those times and guilt surges through him, Ahhhh! How much of my past must I continue to regret! "So with that, I will offer my deepest apologies." He gives another slight bow. "And for what it's worth, after what I've seen you do to those goblins," he looks around at the smashed rider and his dog, "I, for one, am glad I am not on their side." He says with a slight smile.

"Do not worry, Miss Sophy," he says with a smile, as he lays a gentle hand on her shoulder, "it's nothing a good night's rest won't cure." His thoughts then turning to the women he noticed aiding in the battle, "There were two others, I believe. Those two women, there," he takes a few steps and nods in their direction, "speaking with that gentlemen. Let us see how they fared. I want to thank them for there help and see if they, themselves, need any assistance." He replaces his bow on his back and begins heading that way.

Victor moving away leaves Sophy standing opposite Brock. She seems a little afraid of the massive half-orc and scootches over a little for some cover from Sheriff Hemlock. "Is the church really all right, Sheriff? And Father Zantus? He got the book inside safely?"

As Eponine turns to leave Aldern speaks up, "Could I at least know the name of my heroine?. If you left word for me, I might know who it was." He turns to Wren, "Thank you Miss Chavali alas I have not yet made the acquaintance Master Drokkus. However, I am good friends with his current star, the Lady Allishanda. The show is scheduled to open tomorrow night and I would be honored if you would attend as my guest."

Victor starts to approach the women and the noble man as the Sheriff answers Sophy, "You do worry about the books too much, I do believe that the text is safe with Father Zantus. The last I saw him he was helping put out the fire which seems to have done nothing but ruin the grass. Come let us see how the others fared."

As all of you gather then closer together with Aldern and the Sheriff the lawman speaks up very formally. "I have never seen such an organized attack by the Goblins. Thank you all for your quick leap to action, it is because of your selflessness that many lives were saved tonight. Though it is unlikely that they can regroup and attack us again, I would work to the side of caution. That said, I would be amiss if I did not gather brave folks like yourselves to protect the people of Sandpoint. I would like to deputize each of you as special protectors of the town. Can I, no, can the people of Sandpoint count on you?"

A deep blush covers Sophy's face as her hand creeps back inside her pocket to touch the edge of the folded paper that accuses her. "On me? Oh, no, I didn't do anything.... You can ask him," she insists, pointing at Victor. "He saw I really didn't do anything; I mostly got in the way." She shrinks away shyly.

Brock clears his throat and then raises his hand uncomfortably and then moves toward the Sheriff. "I'll protect the town. Ummm..it's the only home I've ever known." He then steps back, hoping no one is looking at him.

"Come come now, Miss Sophy. You do not give yourself enough credit." He says with a proud smile and then turns to the sheriff, "Do not listen to her, Sheriff. She was a great deal of help to me. Without her, I would not have been able to take down the goblins I did take down." Quickly moving on to help avoid the embarassment Sophy must be feeling at this moment, "Aside from that, it would be an honor to aid in the protection of Sandpoint. I have been away these last few years but just as Brock said, this to is the only true home I have ever had." He says as he puts his fist to heart and nods. Another thought comes to his mind that he almost forgot about, "Oh, and I would like to thank you two" he turns to the two women, "for aiding us in this fight. It is not often a town gets the help of strangers. I do not believe I have properly introduced myself, Victor Montoya at your service." He bows. "And you are?"

As she walks away from him, Eponine turns around, walking backwards towards the others. How many girls have you asked to join you for dinner tomorrow night? She pauses a beat and then says Eponine. My name's Eponine. Then she turns and continues to the others.

Yes, Sheriff. Under the circumstances, I am completely willing to accept.

"Sure, I love the theater. And to meet the star would be amazing. I have been trying..." she starts to speak, before thinking better of blurting out too much information. "See you tomorrow," she takes her leave, seeing the group of helpers congregating around the Sheriff.

She only got there for the tail end of the talks, but she was able to hear the Sheriff's offer. Before answering, she looked around to see if Drokus was listening or observing. "I don;t need any title, but while I am here, I am perfectly willing to throw in whatever ability I have to keep the town safe."

It is settled then, come by the Town Hall the hour after breakfast and I will swear you into service." With that the sheriff leaves to supervise the restore to order.

Aldern, having stood by quietly pipes up, "Huzah, and good show. It is indeed a pleasure to be known to Sandpoints newest heroes. Miss Eponine, it seems your tounge is as sharp as your blade. As it turns out I have asked only three women to dine with me. The first was Lady Allishanda, actor extraordinaire and long time friend from Magnimar. However, she declined due to a superstition about eating on the night of a shows opening performance. The second and third are Miss Chavali and yourself. Miss Chavali has graciously accepted my offer, yet you would wound my pride after saving my skin?" He looks a little hurt as he turns to the others. "Your actions tonight saved many people including myself and I am deeply indebted to you. Miss Sophy, Mr Montoya, and Mr Brock it would please me greatly to show you my gratitude by asking you to join Miss Chavali and myself for diner and then the theater tomorrow night. I have very much enjoyed your towns festival, that is up until this most unfortunate attack. Mr Montoya, please excuse my lack of manners, I had only over heard you introduce yourself to the others. That's is fine. I am using the AP pretty much as written so anything in it is fair game. I am okay with anyone adding flavor that is appropriate for their character. Anything that has to do with the setting wont be changed, but I do reserve the right to alter how the Plot goes to make it more interesting for those of you who may be familiar with the RotRL as written.

Later that night, she returns to the library beneath the House of Blue Stones. After carefully locking the door behind her, she sits at her desk with a candlestick and slowly removes the folded paper from her pocket. As she sets it before her, a tricky wisp of breeze that seems to come from nowhere catches the corner and nearly sweeps it off the desk. Reaching out quickly, Sophy catches it between the palm of her hand and the wood. She smooths it out carefully and rereads the warnings of woe, a disturbed frown on her face. As she peruses the paper, she hears an echo of the goblins' song over her shoulder: Goblins chew and goblins bite, goblins cut and goblins fight.... She whips around quickly, but nothing is there. Turning back to her desk, she picks up the paper and wavers a moment, holding it near to the candle's flame. Just before the heat can catch the paper on fire, the flame trembles and goes out, as if blown by an invisible mouth. Left in the dim light of the glowing embers in the fireplace, Sophy begins to sob.

Wren heads out the Northern gate and goes a quarter mile up the Long Coast road to the encampment her Varisian troupe had established for their duration in Sandpoint. When she arrives she finds the place ransacked, tents burned and the one of the horses dead form a dozen goblin arrows. Everyone is gone, fled or captured by the goblins. Knowing that staying outside the town walls alone would be suicide, she all but runs back to Sandpoint.

Sophy and Victor return to the square and find Father Zantus and some acolytes tending to a gathering of wounded. Most are minor injuries sustained in the choas, very few people were actually harmed by the goblins. The head priest is knelt over the mother, her son sitting close by, performing the rites of healing. As soft glow lights the darkness and her face changes from distorrted agony to restful and calm. "She will be okay now." Thank you for fighting off the goblin that would have claimed her soul. And thank you for coming to help." Victor and Sophy get busy helping fetch bandages, assisting lost children find their parents, and general cleaning up of the square. Wren arrives with the news of her troupe and Father Zantus offers her and Victor the use of some chambers in the cathedral to rest for the night. Sophy heads home to the frightful solitude of her room under the House of Blue Stones.

Brock joins up with the militia and helps patrol the gates that enter Sandpoint, eager to push on to try and follow after the goblins.
Alas the orders are to protect the gates and watch for signs of any more attacks. As Brock returns from the southern bridge he passes Ilsoari Gandethus, of the Turandarok Academy. The old headmaster is calling out names and searching for orphans that ran off from the square, a couple frightens boys follow him. Upon seeing the Half-Orc, Ilsoari stops short recognizing him, "Brock, is that you lad? I had heard a hero of your description had come to the aid of Sandpoint but I had no idea it was you. Thank the gods, it is good to see you again. Please, if you have nowhere else to stay I have an empty room you could use. In fact, if my aging memory isn't failing me at the moment, I believe it was your old room, not the one you caught on fire. Oh you were a scoundrel in those days...my how things have changed. Its good to have you back in town."

Eponine joins the trash collectors as they gather up the bodies of the dead. While none of the towns residents were slain, two traveling merchants did fall to goblin blades. After the goblins were piled together the guard strip the bodies burning the useless junk and gathering up a small amount of coins to be turned over to the sheriff. Other then that they discover one stoppered vial with a thick amber liquid in it, and several dead frogs that had been tied to some of the goblins belts. Knowldege-local 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 She recalls hearing about a tribe of Goblins known as the Licktoads that gained fighting prowess by ingesting the skin secretions from a certain types of amphibians. The guards happily let her keep the potion after all the help she provided through the night. Once done she retires to her simple apartment in Sandpoint.

The hour after breakfast you all arrive at Sandpoint's Town Hall. Sheriff Hemlock greats you and ushers you into the Mayors chambers. Mayor Deverin looks weary, she obviously was up all night. She is in soft conversation with Father Zantus as you each arrive. From the bits you hear, it seems they are discussing weather or not to continue the dedication ceremony.

Once everyone is there she address the group, "Friends thank you for coming this morning. What has befallen here in Sandpoint is a tragedy, but for the likes of you our people were saved. In times such as these uncommon people are called to uncommon valor and we are pleased that you have accepted Sheriff Hemlocks offer to serve our town. Both he and Father Zantus speak highly of the help you gave, not only in responding to the attack with arms, but in staying to aid in the restoration after the fact. That is the sign of a true hero. I am glad that on this, the second day of Rova in the year 4707 by Absolam Reckoning, I get to swear each of you in as special deputies as witnessed by Abstalar Zantus, priest of Desna and Belor Hemlock, sheriff of Sandpoint." Each of you are asked to pledge and oath of office promising to steadfastly use your skills and talents to protect Sandpoint. Once each of you do, the Mayor gives you each a silver disc threaded onto a green ribbon. On one side of the disc is etched the seal of Magnimar, the other the emblem of Sandpoint. "Take these tokens as a symbol of your office and authority as agents of Sandpoint a holding of Magnimar." She then shakes each of your hands, as does the sheriff and Father Zantus, congratulating you. "Please, take this day to rest. I hear a nobleman has invited you to the theater tonight, and Cyrdak has assured me the show will go on despite last nights attack. Enjoy yourselves and then meet the Sheriff tomorrow morning for your first assignment."

The sheriff and the mayor have much to discuss so you are dismissed and Father Zantus follows you out As you exit you see a smartly dressed servant waiting. He approaches your group and says, "I have been sent by my Lord Aldern Foxglove to give you these." The man, easily old enough to be the nobleman's father, hands each of you a blue velvet pouch containing 5 platinum coins and a formal invitation to diner and the theater. He then says with a slight bow, "I am Celdis, if there is anything I can do to be of service please just say the word."

This is the events that transpire, if you wish to act otherwise please post what you would want to do instead.

"Thank you Mayor, Sheriff, and Father." Victor responds to each in turn. "I, Victor Montoya, am honored." He says with his fist over his heart and a bow.

"Thank you, um, Celdis. No, no, I guess that will be all." He says, not really knowing how to act around a butler. "Unless one of the others need something." A thought then quickly comes to him, "Oh, um, at what time should Lord Aldern expect us?"

Sophy walks out into the morning, equal parts pleased and self-conscious about the badge hanging around her neck. When the older man approaches with the invitations and pouches, she seems taken aback. After peeking into the pouch, her eyes widen, and she drifts up against the other two women in the group. "What is this for?" she asks them surreptitiously. "To buy nicer clothes?"

Celdis eyes Victor up and down and then says, "Sir, your invitation clearly states that Lord Foxglove will be expecting you for the evening meal at five and a half hours past noon."

Victor obviously flustered and slightly irritated, clears his throat and responds, "Yes yes, clearly." Being completely dumbfounded as to what to do with this person, "Well, begone! Or go away. Or whatever it is you are suppose to do." Turning to the others, "Excuse me, does anyone know what we are suppose to do with this man?" He turns back toward him and steps a little closer, "I don't think he is functioning properly. He is still standing there." He gives him a slight poke in the shoulder to see if he moves.

Despite the goings on of the day, and the ceremony, Wren was not in the best of spirits. Her troupe was long gone, hopefully, escaping the town before the goblins struck. At least there were no bodies...the way the goblins were willy nilly attacking everything in town, there would not likely be be any hostage taking. It seemed they had all gotten away.

Wren silently went through the ceremony, being quite confused as to what she was going to do presently. Perhaps this would increase her value to the performers...

She took the pouch from the servant, listened to the quiet one's question. "I think that is precisely what this gift is for. And to be fair, my garment is more for traveling than for entertaining. What say we go find something nice for us all? Do any of the locals here know of a garment shop nearby?"

"There's Vernah's," Sophy offers timidly. She has long felt a loyalty to Rynshinn's shop, named after the mother who had been lost at the same time as her own, even if she has never felt fine enough to buy anything there. "Or the Sandpoint Boutique; they have a little of everything."

Wren could feel the uncomfortableness just pouring out from the girl. Trying to make her more comfortable, Wren tries to get her viewpoint on the issue. "Well, Sophy, which one do you like better? We can start there and make our way about town after that."
