Does Sophy recognize the woman depicted in the statue or, more particularly, the book she's holding?
As they walk back down the tunnel, Sophy shyly presses her dagger into Victor's hand. "Here," she says. "You can put this to better use than I can, just in case you get in a situation where you don't have room to shoot your bow."
Sophy Cassell |
Sophy gives a longing glance back toward the Glassworks, but their instructions had been clear: to find Ameiko and see how dangerous the creatures in the tunnels were. The answer to the second question was, Too dangerous for her! But if they went back up without Ameiko, someone would have to come back down. She sighs and nods to Eponine to move forward, making sure her crossbow is both glowing and loaded.

Victor looks at the dagger a moment then turns his gaze upon her, "Thank you, Miss Sophy." He nods in appreciation. Then noticing Eponine apparently listening for something on the other side of the door, "Miss Eponine. Let me see if I can possibly be of any help in your endeavor." He tells her as he himself listens in.

Brock AKA "Bones" |
"I say, we skewer that little bugger." Brock grips the ranseur tight, as he speaks. "From the little I know of magics, those who use it tend to regain their abilities after resting. If we come back another day, he may gain all his magics and fear us again, destroy our weapons with a wave of his hand, etc.. I say we get him today, before he can rest. I know no fear, but I understand if the rest of you do." Brock looks at the odd party around him. "But if not that little bastard, then let's get to finding Ameiko. We're wasting time!" The frustration is obvious in Brock's voice, as he looks at the fresh wounds on his body and curses silently to himself.
Victor Montoya |
"That is a good point. Alright, if you feel like you can destroy that creature with that, then let us return. But with the length of that weapon, you better hope she does not get near you. It is not made for hand to hand combat, as you can tell." He stops and thinks a moment on what they could possibly do different. "Alright, Brock. What do you say to me going in, you right behind me, I will distract the creature to come and attack me, and while she does that, you use the ranseur to hopefully kill it. What say you?"
Brock AKA "Bones" |
"No, my friend, Victor. I do not want to use you as bait. However, I don't have too much confidence in your archery skills for obvious reasons. I have not forgotten. No, the reason we had to flee before is because we got separated, obviously due to the creature's fear spell. If we attack it again, we need to do so as a unit. Remember, it dropped blood into the triangular pool and summoned spawn to its aid. In fact, I was thinking of screwing with that to get him to attack us, in case he is hiding somewhere. But to do it, we have to go in as a team. I may be stubborn but not stupid. If the girls are not ready now, then let's keep looking for Ameiko, though I appreciate your solidarity as a warrior."
Wren Chavali |
"Sorry boys, but I agree with Sophy. We are having trouble even scratching that demon's hide. We should find Ameiko, head back to the surface, and stock up on things that might bother her, such as acid flasks. We could also try to find a scroll or two of a spell that makes our weapons magical to try and effect her."
Mythril DM |
It is a tense moment before the ancient statue as the group tries to deiced the best course of action. Sophy and Wren want to find Ameiko and return later to fight the demon queen, while Victor and Brock are ready to take the fight to her. It will be up to Eponine to make the decision....

Our priority is to save Ms. Ameiko, and unless she is tiny and hateful, that wasn't her back there. If we don't find her in an hour or two, we could return here, deal with that little creature and search that room for clues. But for now, while we still have other options, I think we should keep looking.
Victor Montoya |
Victor thinking a moment, remembers that he heard something on the other side of the door. "I heard a strange growl followed by the sound of someone hitting...oh, let us say...a piece of meat? Maybe?" He shrugs. "That is the best way I can describe it."

This large chamber was obviously once a prison, as testified by the nearly two dozen cells that line the room’s perimeter. You are standing on a rickety wooden platform that overlooks the room, with two flights of stairs descending to the prison floor ten feet below. A five-foot-wide wooden walkway runs from the northern edge of the platform to a passageway to the east. Two more of the sin creatures are apparently arguing over a pile of bones when you enter, they don't seem to have been expecting you.

Can we reach the creatures from the walkways above? And vice-versa?

Unless they're at least Large size, which I didn't get the impression, only with ranged weapons.

Is the exit over at F 21 on the level of the catwalk or of the cells? Or both? If we have to take the rickety catwalk to get out, Sophy will move to G 14; if we have to go downstairs to get out, she'll move to H 13.
The exit to the east is on the level of the catwalk only.
I will move you to G14

Round 1 begins
The creatures howl with delight as they rush to attack. The first one leaps up and grabs the rickety catwalk with its elongated arms, and drags itself up over the edge. It struggles to pull it's legs up behind and is unable to pull itself all the way up and is lying prone on the bridge. It lashes at Eponine's feet with one of it's wicked claws and she nimbly avoids the attack as she stabs the creature with her rapier.
The second creature lumbers up the stairs and savagely rakes the warrior with it's dirty claws. (12 pts. of damage)

Ummm...if the creature moved more than 5', it cannot full attack, only one attack. Also, did it go through any of Brock's threatened sqaures? He has 10' reach with the ranseur.
Sorry Brock, I forgot about the ranseur and yes you should get an AoO.
Brock sees the creature coming up the stairs and thrusts his newly acquired ranseur straight at it's ugly head. It screeches in pain as it slashes it's claws at Victor.
Brock AoO 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 1) + 4 = 8
Everyone, please check the OCC thread about the other question.
Brock AKA "Bones" |
I was asking before about the AoO because I was posting from my Blackberry and could not see the map. Now that I see it, there is no AoO in the present case. Rules went against you for Victor and for you with the AoO. The creature moved into a square threatened by Brock but not through it, so no AoO.
Brock yells, "Victor, move back, you're blocking my attack on it." Brock delays till after Victor goes.
Mythril DM |
Okay, I have been misinterpreting the rules for a long time. Thanks Joanna for finding the post by Sean K. Reynolds. Instead of Victor getting hit by both claws he will only be attacked by one. The first hit roll totaled 17 which is a hit. The first damage roll was for 5 points of damage. The second attack never occurred, so no critical.

I am going to let Brock's AoO stand on account the creature had to navigate the stairs to get to Victor. Where Brock is he can hit the creature, Victor doesn't prevent him from threatening the creature.
Mythril DM |
I will rule that the creature only gets partial cover +2 AC because Brock is not directly behind Victor and Victor is an ally who knows that you are fighting the same target and would shift away in his movement. Like I posted above I am going to let the AoO stand but that was special for that action so no more against this target unless Victor moves. Do you want to go ahead and see if that roll is a good hit, or keep it as a delayed action?
Victor Montoya |
Victor, trusting in Brock to bring this creature down far more than himself, takes a step back so as to give Brock room and then fires his bow.
