LL in regards to the sound striker specifically, I'm sure I've read daw clarification that states the weird words ability has to target different creatures, you can't fire them all at the same individual. I think that's the same archetype anyway :/

^That's correct (1 potent sound per bard level up to a total of 10, one sound per target) and that's fine by me because hey...plenty of villain lairs are target-rich environments what with all those minions running around :D

Thanks guys! Good to see you again, Midnight. Yeah, Vesna was fun to play. Too bad it didn't last longer.

And you're definitely right, I had a Dresden idea going with the Magus/Witch combo. Either Knight of the Cross or Winter Knight (though a melee version of Scarlet Witch isn't far off either). I have had the Green Goblin idea rolling around for quite a while. With gestalt, I'd get the full slate of Alchemist discoveries and formulae too which would help him stay on par with the super powered spell-casters. Those two are probably my leading candidates.

Raring to go and keen to see how we end up getting together!

Tim welcome! Sorry for it being so late. I had an idea like your Bladebound Magus/Witch mine was samsuria/spiritualist - Where it was an ancient spirit gave him his powers and he would talk to him and such really loved the idea of it but got stuck on my monk now :P

Also love the green goblin type that could be pretty fun.

--
I have the most of it all down on paper just need to clean it up and get it just right.(I've spoke to Jz about it)

Still going with my monk really enjoyed him not 100% on the other side being Magus tho, I took it so I got some spell and I can channel some spells through my fists for some bigger punches.

I think I've just about got C's crunch done except for equipment, but what I do have is on the profile for perusal. For the life of me I can't find or remember what our starting cash is supposed to be :\

Still hammering out the fluff, but will hopefully have it done very soon as well :)

In terms of starting wealth you begin play with 1 Resource Point.

Resource points are roughly equivalent to 375gp (or dollars or pounds or yen or whatever currency you use depending on locality. We won't get hung up on that)

You will normally be able to petition to increase the value slightly. For example, you might want to buy a White E-pick (a device used to aid in disabling electronic systems). That costs 400 but 1 Resource Point would be fine. It's kind of a much looser wealth system and we'll see how it goes.

You won't get any change though so bear that in mind. I advise you to spend the full 375 value of your first Resource Point on starting gear.

You will also start with Fame equal to your level + Cha (with a minimum starting score of 1)

Okay, noted. Will update C's stuff accordingly when I get home from work!

Glad everyone is nearly there :)

I too was unsure about starting gear, but then again Midnight only has her armor to her name so that was simple!

That's not to say we don't all have other resources that just don't come with us adventuring, they can always make an appearance in later issues :p

Inactive

Oh sure...and for a modern setting there's a lot of the normal PF gear that doesn't make much sense to have unless your character really likes camping and outdoorsy stuff or you refluff it to something else! Mainly wanted to know so I could have 'armor' and some sort of 'weapon'...the rest can fall into place as we go :)

Yep armour, weapon, clothing and lodging is about it. There are some kits and things like alchemist lab that are cheap, make sense and have some mechanical benefit

Also you've got things like torches where now you could just buy a flashlight (or torch for my fellow Brits!) so think about some modern gear you might want. On the doc there are links to modern gear

How's it coming along Tim?

Sorry, I had some houseguests this past weekend.

I'm going with the Alchemist/URogue idea. I think I'll take the Grenadier and the Underground Chemist archetypes respectively. This lets him throw splash weapons as well as shoot them via a gun. Being able to infuse a tangleburn bag into an AK-47 sounds awesome. Actually it sounds like having a grenade launcher attachment on the weapon. Defer to our GM whether the sneak attack will work if I infuse it onto ammunition.

Can we use Drawbacks and are we using Background skills?

After much consideration, I really will hang something onto the Green Goblin storyline. I'm finalizing his background, but I'm thinking of a young, brilliant engineer, named Lucas Lee, who worked for OSCORP. When Harry Osborne went insane and began using OSCORP to produce more goblin formula and the assorted weaponry, Lucas reported it to the authorities. Eventually, Harry found out and attacked Lucas. He was ultimately no match for Harry, who drowned him in a vat of boiling goblin formula. When the SHIELD found him, though, they realized he was still alive and took him to medical facilities. The goblin formula had transformed Lucas (effectively into a mutant aka half-orc), but his intellect was intact and he joined SHIELD as a leading engineer. With his enhanced abilities, he eventually takes on a field operative role with his own shades of the goblin heritage.

What I really need help with is Lucas' codename. Part of me wants to use the 'Goblin' moniker, but many of those are already taken (though that hasn't stopped Marvel in the past). Also, is there any way to make the name indicate that's he a good guy instead (not that Marvel keeps bad guys bad either). Ones I've played around with:
Free Goblin
True Goblin
Blue Goblin
New Hobgoblin
The Goblin
The Undergoblin
Shadow Goblin
Goblinheart
Firebug

Thoughts?

Inactive

I kinda like Firebug, but that's just my opinion :)

With regards to sneak attack what ability are you referring to?

Splash weapons can't deal precision damage on their own so that's bombs and alchemical items out for sneak attack. When applied to a weapon with Alchemical Weapon....? I don't see a problem with that.

I know it literally is just adding the archetype and moniker together, but what about Grenadier Goblin? That sounded quite cool in my head!

Firebug also works and on that theme you might also have Wildfire, Torch, Inferno or Flashfire. Those also came to mind with the fire theme.

If you didn't want to invest in gun feats you could make a pretty cool trick-archer type character with the Grenadier.

Underground Chemist archetype allows sneak attacks with splash weapons at 4th level. Yeah, I'm thinking ahead. So the question would be whether it still counts as a splash weapon after you infuse it into ammunition, since it doesn't splash anymore.

Maybe he should use a cool mechnical crossbow/bomb thrower instead.

And I like Wildfire.

Well the way I interpret it would be:

Weapon = fine for sneak attack
Bomb = fine for sneak attack from level 4
Alchemical item = fine for sneak attack from level 4
Alchemical weapon = for me the sneak attack triggers from the weapon's shot anyway, it wouldn't trigger twice for the weapon and then for the splash weapon

I can see that there's potential for something powerful there but to fully exploit you'd need a lot of feats (ranged feats), you only get the sneak on the first attack in the round as per Precise Splash Weapons and the sneak won't apply to any splash damage dealt.

Unless I'm missing something?

At level 5 you'd be doing something like 1d8 (gun) + 1d6 (alchemist fire) + 3d6 (sneak) + 4 (intelligence) + 1 (PBS) + 4 (DA) for an average of about 25 - 28 DPR

Have I worked that out right?

Sounds good to me. Alternatively, a limited-use bomb+sneak attack, once each round.

I know this may throw a spanner in the works guys but I wasn't planning on using traits in this game.

Napalm, you also need a line on there for your Ballistic AC. It is essentially your touch AC + half armor and shield bonuses rounded down.

So for you it would be 10 + 3 + 1 (studded leather) = 14 and that would be the AC an enemy would target with a firearm.

aka Napalm, Mutant (half-orc) Alchemist/Rogue (hp 45/45; F+8, R+11*, W+7* | KAC 19/15/15; EAC 18/15/14 | Init +4 | Perception +10*, Sense Motive +10)

Traits removed. I also forgot about starting boons.

How much is the ballistic armor? The guide just has "$." It probably makes sense to have ballistic armor rather than traditional armor for a (mostly) ranged combatant.

Yeah I never really worked out prices but these look kind of on point with normal armour - more expensive to reflect what they defend against.

I'll update the doc now.

Light UC Shirt L 2 +10% +7 0 30 2lb. $100
Undercover Vest L 3 +10% +5 -2 30 3lb. $150
Modular vest L 4 +15% +4 -3 30 4lb. $225
light-Duty Vest M 5 +15% +3 -4 20 8lb. $150
Tactical Vest M 6 +20% +2 -5 20 10lb. $500

Remember the bonus these provide is halved against 'traaditional' weapons i.e. anything that isn't a firearm.

Tim have you picked a starting boon?

I really liked Wildfire fwiw :) but Napalm is cool.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Ok I thought it might be useful to outline the key events in the Marvel Movie Universe since this game is essentially set right at the point where the movies are now since I know LL at least isn't familiar with them.

I guess I should warn anyone who hasn't seen the movies that there are spoilers in this recap.

The Road to Dawn of Legends:

1 - "Iron Man" (2008)

Hero -- Iron Man
Villain -- Obadiah Stane, a.k.a. the Iron Monger

Arms dealer Tony Stark is in the Middle East, where he is attacked and taken captive. He builds an arc reactor to power a magnet to keep shrapnel in his heart from killing him. That reactor will later power the Iron Man suit. After escaping, Stark Becomes a superhero, which forces him to have a change of heart about selling weapons of destruction. But his mentor Stane wants this suit, his arc and him out of the company. Actually, he's the one who paid the insurgents to kill Stark in the first place. Stane, with his own iron suit, and Stark face off at the end of the film.

How it ends -- Iron Man prevails, and after Tony Stark tells the world "I am Iron Man," Nick Fury of SHIELD recruits him for the Avengers Initiative.

2 - "The Incredible Hulk" (2008)

Hero -- The Hulk
Villain -- Abomination

Scientist Bruce Banner was hit with gamma radiation, which turns him into a green, raging monster when he gets angry and his heart rate is elevated. General Ross wants this technology for the military. Banner just wants to be left alone, but is also in love with Ross' daughter Betty. Roth's character starts taking a Super Soldier serum to catch the Hulk, but takes too much and turns into an evil Hulk, known as Abomination. After Abomination starts destroying the city, Ross wants the Hulk to fight and stop him. Hulk subdues the monster and runs away to live far away from people he may hurt or kill.

How it ends -- In the post-credit scene, you see Stark run into Ross at a bar and ask about the Hulk in order to recruit him for the Avengers.

3 - "Iron Man 2" (2010)

Heroes -- Iron Man; Lt. Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes, a.k.a. War Machine and Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow
Villains -- Whiplash

Six months after his "coming out" as Iron Man, Tony Stark's superhero career has him on the top of the world, having "successfully privatized national security." However, the technology that's keeping Stark alive is also killing him. Stark does battle with the twin demons of palladium poisoning and the bottle, only to have to face Ivan Vanko/Whiplash, a Russian physicist with an axe to grind against the Stark family and a fearsome supersuit powered by a homebrew copy of Stark's arc reactor. Vanko finds a deep-pocketed ally in arms dealer Justin Hammer, and uses his resources to build a drone army to try to destroy Stark and his legacy.

How it ends -- After Iron Man and War Machine take down Whiplash, we see a hammer in the middle of the desert -- Thor is coming.

4 - "Thor" (2011)

Hero -- Thor
Villain -- Loki

Loki is jealous of his older brother Thor, who is set to become the next king of Asgard after his father Odin retires. But after an attack on his home, Thor disobeys his father and is banished to Earth, minus his powers and his hammer. While on Earth, he falls in love and learns humility. Loki also tries to kill him, but Thor regains his power and returns to Asgard to fight and conquer his misguided brother. Thor vows to watch over Earth, where Loki fell to after the final battle scene.

How it ends -- Nick Fury recruits a doctor friend of Thor's to work on alien technology -- the tesseract. But Loki is lurking in the shadows!

5 - "Captain America: The First Avenger" (2011)

Hero -- Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America
Villain -- The Red Skull

World War II has broken out and all that tiny Steve Rogers wants to do is enlist and fight the Nazis. But he's too fragile and doesn't meet requirements. So, the government experiments on him with a Super Soldier serum and it works! He's athletic, strong and ready to take down the bad guys. After he is mainly used for propaganda, he breaks command and rescues his best friend Bucky Barnes from Hydra, a Nazi-like organization also bent on taking over the world. He eventually meets and faces off against the Red Skull towards the end of the war and thwarts his plan. Bucky is presumed dead in this movie, but we later find out in "The Winter Soldier" that's not the case.

How it ends -- Cap lands his plane in frozen ice after taking the Red Skull out. He is found and thawed out 70 years later. In the post-credit scene, Nick Fury approaches Cap about a mission, now in the year 2012.

6 - "The Avengers" (2012)

Heroes -- Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye
Villain -- Loki and his alien army

Loki makes a deal to work with this alien army to take over Earth after he failed to conquer Asgard. The Avengers unite -- while bickering and fighting with each other at times -- and band together to fight Loki and this army. The catalyst is when Loki kills SHIELD's Agent Coulson, a snarky, yet lovable ally. They win and go their separate ways, vowing to protect Earth or at least "Avenge" it.

How it ends -- Manhattan is terribly damaged by the alien invasion which is ultimately foiled by the Avengers. This leads to huge public swell of opinion.

7 - "Iron Man 3" (2013)

Heroes -- Iron Man and War Machine
Villains -- The Mandarin

The Avengers’ Battle of New York has left Tony Stark wracked with PTSD. He spends his sleepless nights tinkering with a legion of armored suits in a frantic attempt to protect his one true love, Pepper; a mere “man in a can” in a dangerous new world of gods and aliens. A new threat arises closer to home, however, when the mysterious Mandarin launches a series of terror attacks, leaving Stark’s former life in ruins. Stranded without access to his suits and only his wits to rely on, Tony discovers Mandarin is merely an actor under the employ of Aldrich Killian, a scientist with a grudge against Stark, and access to the terrifying super soldier serum known as Extremis. Killian kidnaps Pepper to blackmail Tony into perfecting the deadly tech, leading to an epic showdown -- and Stark’s realization that even without his armor, he’s still Iron Man.

How it ends -- Funny scene where Stark tells Bruce Banner, a.k.a. the Hulk, his story in a therapy-like session.

8 - "Captain America: Winter Soldier" (2014)

Heroes -- Captain America, Nick Fury, Black Widow and the Falcon
Villains -- Winter Soldier and Alexander Pierce

Marvel’s red, white, and blue hero finds himself increasingly ill at ease with his employer S.H.I.E.L.D.’s shades of grey, especially after Steve Rogers discovers Project Insight: a plan to eliminate the agency’s enemies before they strike. “This isn’t freedom. This is fear,” Cap sums up to S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury – who is felled by a mysterious assassin known only as The Winter Soldier. After the agency targets Rogers, he and Black Widow go on the run, and discover Hydra has been festering inside S.H.I.E.L.D. for decades -- and that The Winter Soldier is none other than Cap’s old friend Bucky Barnes, thought killed in World War II, but brainwashed to be a triggerman for the evil group. Along with Sam Wilson AKA Falcon, former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill, and Widow, Rogers vows to burn down both Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D. -- and save his former friend.

9 - "Avengers: Age of Ultron" (2015)

Heroes -- Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Vision
Villain -- Ultron

Iron Man and the gang take down Hydra and recapture Loki's scepter. But Tony uses the stone inside the weapon to create artificial intelligence, Ultron. This backfires and Ultron wages war against the Avengers and the human race. You start to see a real break in the team between Cap and Iron Man on their beliefs. They eventually take down Ultron, but at the cost of countless lives after the city of Sokovia is destroyed.

10 - "Captain America: Civil War" (2016)

Heroes -- Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Bucky Barnes, Black Panther, Ant-Man
Villain -- Baron Zemo

After another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps, one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark's surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

It is revealed that Baron Zemo has manipulated the situation to tear the Avengers apart and villify heroes.

How It Ends: The Avengers are splintered and no longer exist as a group. Captain America, Ant-Man, Hawkeye, Bucky Barnes and Scarlet Witch are essentially on the run.

The Game As It Starts....

Times are changing. More rapidly than many would like.

In the years since Captain America became the first recognised enhanced human, the meta landscape has changed dramatically. The Avengers have been the highest profile emergence of superheroes. But for the past decade vigilantes like Moon Knight, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist have been operating in New York alone. The exploits of Spiderman, Dr Strange and the Fantastic Four are equally well documented and this is merely a drop in the ocean. Reports of dozens, possibly hundreds of metahumans have surfaced in recent times across mainland USA, not to mention the rest of the globe.

The mutant population has exploded with half a dozen chapters and derivations of Xavier’s School being founded across the country.
However, all is not well.

After the defeat of the Chi’tauri invasion fleet in New York by the Avengers and the devastating events in Sarkovia, people are beginning to question whether the world they live in is equal parts wondrous but dangerous and tumultuous too. Indeed, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are splintered and without direction. Iron Man and Captain America himself have been at eachother’s throats for months as the governments of the world try to seize control of the situation with lines of division appear both with the populace at large and the heroes among them. Similarly, Thor and Hulk are off-world pursuing their own agendas among such equally cosmically powered individuals as Nova and Quasar and retirement has long been in the mind of former SHIELD agents like Black Widow, Nick Fury and Hawkeye.

The holes ripped in space and reality by the Asgardian God Loki during the Cht’auri event have remained open and unpredictable and through them attracted denizens of a hundred different worlds with intentions both malevolent and benign.

In this era of the extraordinary and the unnerving we find our burgeoning heroes. Without SHIELD or the Avengers, and with little clue of how to handle the increasing numbers of both metahumans, extraterrestrials and villains – as powerful as the heroes who oppose them – people are nervous and in this maelstrom of powered individuals and global agendas, those who seek to make a difference, start to make their way in the world.

JZ that was an awesome summary and intro to the game, bravo :)

Can't wait to get in to this!!

Cool I'm glad it's useful and that you're keen to go.

SHIELD is kind of in transition. The organisation has been decimated by the revelation that Hydra Agents had infiltrated it (See Captain America Winter Soldier) so as part of their recovery Maria Hill has been appointed Director and is in the process of recruiting new agents with much more transparency, including mutants and aliens (probably as a PR stunt to show people there is nothing to fear from such beings).

Melania is going to be one of those agents when she begins for example.

I don't think we will be too long before we start, I'm just keen to see everyone's backstory before we go :)

Plus I know Ictoo is struggling for a name!

Very nice sum up! Much have taken you ages, but it does make sure we all know where we stand.

I really like everyones ideas, it's all coming together now and i'm pretty excited to get started.

I'm also unsure on everything! I'm still considering my name..

Here's all my stats. I have all the points for my back story i'm just not happy with it and will try and get it sorted this week.

No worries Akio, I know you'll come up with something cool.

As an aside, would you guys prefer to start a whole new thread and mark this one as inactive?

Male Human aka Ebon - Human, Monk/Magus 6 | hp 64 | F+8 R+8 W+11 | AC K 22 E 20 | Init +6 | Perc +14

I was going ask the same question JZ, I think it would be better to start again. Something fresh so everyone can find it and watch how awesome this game is going to be.

Yeah once we're all done and everything is settled I'll close this and set up a new thread

Added Napalm's background.

Background:

Lucas Lee was a brilliant young engineer born in Seattle. He graduated from Stanford with double degrees in both Chemical Engineering and Biochemistry, as well as a masters in Biomedical Engineering. He completed a graduate engineering project along with his then-girlfriend Margaret Tse, creating a method of storing volatile chemicals for easy, safe, and stable transport. This garnered the attention of several major biotech and chemical companies when Lucas and Margaret demonstrated the stability by firing a rocket at a truck full of chemicals with no major effects. Soon after, Lucas was employed by OSCORP, while Margaret went to work at Stark Industries.

After Lucas had worked at OSCORP for several years, Harry Osborne took over the company from his father. He began massive production of the goblin formula and weaponry, which alarmed many in OSCORP, who saw their company turn into an accomplice to a homicidal maniac. Lucas led several leading engineers in a protest, refusing to complete work on new Goblin technology and notifying the authorities of his criminal intentions. When Harry found out, he attacked Lucas. Lucas was little match for an enhanced Harry Osborne, and the Green Goblin drowned him in a boiling vat of goblin formula chemicals.

When police arrived, Harry had fled. SHIELD agents soon arrived to take custody of the laboratory equipment. Amazingly, they found that Lucas was still alive. He was literally breathing the goblin formula. Lucas was brought to a SHIELD medical facility where he slowly recovered. Margaret, who had secretly joined SHIELD a year prior, helped nurse Lucas back to health. Unfortunately the prolonged exposure to the goblin formula had altered Lucas’ body, changing his internal chemistry and warping his DNA. After recovery, Lucas joined SHIELD to continue researching alien technology and provide the world with a defense against the likes of the Green Goblin.

Lucas and Margaret, reunited at SHIELD, rekindled their relationship and were married after six months. They were on their honeymoon in Europe, when Hydra attacked SHIELD from within. Lucas and Margaret were forced to go into hiding for two months before Maria Hill was able to find them. With SHIELD a shell of its former self, Lucas has been asked to go into field to support operations.

Great stuff, so Lucas and Melania are agents of New-SHIELD. Akio and Concussion to come. I suspect Akio at least is going to be unaffiliated with any government org so that'll be interesting.

Something else Akio and I were briefly discussing the other day;

In all my other games when the enemy hits negative hp they are dead. It's just easier that way.

However, that works just fine when you are in some ancient tomb or even in a pseudo-medieval town where the law of kill or be killed still more or less trumps everything else. But in a modern society, no hero is just going around killing every enemy they come into conflict with (Punisher excluded - and he's hunted by heroes, enemies and law enforcement alike).

So I am probably just going to say that enemies are Bloodied when they have about 10% health remaining to give you an indication whether lethal force is necessary or not. Having said that if you knock them into negatives and they are then stabilised or healed that's fine, it's just to help you decide if it's worth risking another swipe with that +3 keen vibro-blade.

And one last thing, there are a few combinations I've identified that scare me a little with gestalt and trying to maintain a challenge.

Just one example; I am quite wary of the Mage Armour and Shield combination on characters with high dexterity OR Shield on characters who can wear heavy armour (and wouldn't normally have access to that spell). It's very easy to get something in the region of 28 AC with literally no investment by level 5 or 6 and with no detriment to the character. What I mean by that is normally to get AC to that extent something else normally suffers such as your attack, damage per round or saves but not in a gestalt game.

I'm not a fan of saying no to anything as a GM arbitrarily, but I would ask you as players to work with me if something looks like it's affecting the game negatively.

I'm really looking forward to this game and know we can make something really cool here :)

Didn't get much chance to work on C's background today due to getting called in to work but it's highly likely that she won't be affiliated with any governments or organizations at the beginning either! Should be fun :3

The bit about bloodied enemies is fine by me.

And so noted on the AC shenanigans!

aka Midnight - F Alien Kineticist/Paladin 3; hp 40; AC 20, T 13, FF 17, BAC 16; F +10|R +9|W +6; Init +3, Perception +6 Darkvision 60 ft
skills:
Diplomacy +7, Fly +9, Knowledge (meta) +6, Perception +6, Sense Motive +4
Max. burn 7, Fame: 4

No worries, noted about the bloodied aspect.

Also, the game mechanics are still a work in progress even if we've done a bit of road testing before. I'm sure we're all happy to adapt when certain combos threaten to become game breaking :)

Shenanigans!

It's almost as fun to say as shillelagh ;p

Male Human aka Ebon - Human, Monk/Magus 6 | hp 64 | F+8 R+8 W+11 | AC K 22 E 20 | Init +6 | Perc +14

I like the bloodied rule, it will be really interesting more so now as you said we can't just blow people away. We have to be better than the villains, I will be doing non lethal all the time.

About the mage armor and shield. There will be a lot of crazy stuff, we will find it and we'll talk about it if it gets to much. As melania said we're all open minded here and wont have trouble adjusting.

aka Napalm, Mutant (half-orc) Alchemist/Rogue (hp 45/45; F+8, R+11*, W+7* | KAC 19/15/15; EAC 18/15/14 | Init +4 | Perception +10*, Sense Motive +10)
Dex Mutagen:
F+8, R+13*, W+6* | KAC 22/15/18; EAC 21/15/17 | Init +6 | Perception +9*, SM +9

Napalm is likely the one who will have to pull back once an enemy is bloodied. There's no real way for him to make his bombs and alchemical weapons non-lethal.

aka Midnight - F Alien Kineticist/Paladin 3; hp 40; AC 20, T 13, FF 17, BAC 16; F +10|R +9|W +6; Init +3, Perception +6 Darkvision 60 ft
skills:
Diplomacy +7, Fly +9, Knowledge (meta) +6, Perception +6, Sense Motive +4
Max. burn 7, Fame: 4

Couple of quick questions whilst we're just hanging here JZ...

Would a kinetic blast count as a weapon for a paladin's holy weapon ability to effect?

Wood kineticist's get access to a utility talent called 'Merciful Foliage' which allows them to deal non-lethal with their wood-based blasts. Seeing as Midnight shoots air, would you consider letting her have access to this utility ability too? (She still needs to select it as one of her talents at the right level, so wouldn't be getting anything for free!)

All good if not, but you don't get if you don't ask ;)

Regarding point 2 - I don't see a problem with that. I could just as easily create a non-lethal bomb discovery and there are both feats and boons that allow weapon users to attack without lethal force.

Let me have a little think about point 1. I made an archer paladin with a bow as his holy weapon and yeah it was very powerful (more because he was an archer than anything else) but seemed ok.

How are those backstories coming A and C?

Male Human aka Ebon - Human, Monk/Magus 6 | hp 64 | F+8 R+8 W+11 | AC K 22 E 20 | Init +6 | Perc +14

Back story is done and i've also tweaked my character and he's now taken kensai archetype instead(should fit better)

I'm not really happy about this back story but i never will be, I much prefer it to all come out in game but here we go..

Backstory:
He was born in Dengfeng, Zhengzhou, Henan, China - Born in a Shaolin temple it was all he knew, there was always high expectations from him. He was trained non stop to a singular focus to fight The Hand an order of evil mystical ninjas.

He was born a seventh son of a seventh son, a good omen to all the monks of his order. A child promised that would take up the dragons gifts and strike out against ancient evil. So he was trained and taught to seek it out, at an early age he was visited in his dreams by the dragon a twin one side light the other dark. It was the light twin that granted a part of his soul, a fraction of its power to Akio a heavy burden but one instilled in him from birth.

After years of training and fighting in Asia. He came to new york to learn, to finish his studying under the Shaolin monks. They called him there because of all the turmoil and recent rise in The Hand activity. He would finish this training to hone his powers granted to him and help those seen to small for organisations like shield and the avengers.

During the day he studies and trains working towards enlightenment, working on his inner strength, learning the power that was granted to him. Every Night he suits up and heads out into the city, he seeks out those in need and stop criminals while seeking out The Hand.

He’s never considered looking for others to help him, he has the support of his masters and the monks at the temple. He wouldn't think to join organization of shield, it’s something he doesn't think works and would rather focus on helping people he can.

Similar to Akio, I'm not 100% pleased with my background but hopefully I've got enough to work with for now and I can go back and flesh some bits out (namely other people) as needed.

Background:

Constance Walsh, or Connie, was born and raised in New York City, one of a multitude of humans now living in a world where aliens and mutants, heroes and villains, are now just a part of everyday life. The majority of her life was unremarkable - she had family and friends, went to school, worked the typical fast food & retail grind once she grew old enough to have a job. The thing that stood out about her though was her love of music, something she'd exhibited from a very early age. It didn't really matter what kind as she could always find at least one song from any genre that she liked. Noting this, her parents were more than happy to sign her up for guitar lessons when she was 8.

As she grew older and entered her teen years, her musical interests gravitated towards the various genres of metal and she formed the band Nuclear Tranquility with some friends, coming up with the stage name of 'Concussion' for herself. Initially the band was more of a side project for them but as they exited high school and found themselves needing to find their way in the real world, they began to take their performances much more seriously. Though most of them are going to college and/or working other jobs to help pay the bills they play whenever they can in local bars and nightclubs, hopeful to one day be discovered and make it big. And in a way, Concussion was - though not in the way she expected.

During one of Nuclear Tranquility's performances she was approached by a hooded and heavily make-upped woman who gave the name 'Porfa'. She excitedly explained that she'd been following the band for some time and had been present for several of their local performances but had only just worked up the nerve to approach any of them. Happy to meet what seemed to be a genuine fan, Concussion invited her to come hang out with the band back at their 'studio', which was really just a small storage building owned by the family of one of the other band members. Much jamming and partying ensued until Concussion and Porfa were the only ones left at the studio. It was then that Porfa revealed that she was not human but alien, having come to visit Earth largely on a lark. During her time there she'd become fascinated with Earthen music and after randomly catching one of Nuclear Tranquility's performances, with Concussion herself. Porfa eagerly explained that although Concussion was good, the use of her own people's musical techniques could make her even better. She drew out a small cube and explained that simply by touching it, all the information would be easily downloaded into her memory as if into a computer. Though Concussion was pretty certain that the woman had had way too much to drink, she was in a pretty devil-may-care mood herself and sure, "Sure, why not?"

The next thing she knew, she was waking up on the small couch the band had set in the studio and daylight was streaming in through the one small window. Thinking that Porfa had likely just shown herself out at some point, Concussion didn't think anything about the 'offer' - reasoning she must've dreamed the whole thing. Except, she didn't. After this she began noticing that although her actual skill was still the same, she could produce strange effects with her music - orbs of light, sparks of fire. More distressingly was that she seemed to break any and everything she touched. Now realizing that Porfa really must have been telling the truth, Concussion has been trying (without any luck) to track down the strange alien woman and have her fix whatever her strange cube did to her.

The main thing is that I've left the motivations of Porfa open-ended so they can range anywhere from well-intentioned blunder to deliberate experimentation for some unknown end. Depending on how the game opens and/or possible other connections with other PCs (C might have seen Midnight doing her DJ thing in the past), C is likely going to start out as a reluctant hero and one that would have no government affiliations.

Cool this is awesome guys.

Akio, it strikes me that the Shaolin monks in NY aren't going to teach you much more about technique but perhaps your masters new that and they wanted you to go there to learn more about the world.

Concussion, thank you for your backstory, it's nice and open-ended and leaves room for Porfa to be a meddling villain or just some bored play-girl alien hopping around the galaxy on a whim.

Please feel free to make some tweaks or whatever you want to do. I'm probably going to get this rolling next week if everyone is cool with that?
