Wurt, I hate to tell you this, but if I have worked this out correctly the DC to vertically jump 20 feet is DC 80. It's DC 16 for 4 feet and then if you extrapolate that out it comes to 80

You can leap straight up onto the 10ft high storage crate in V52 with DC 40...?

Yeah, I didn't recall how high overhead the catwalks were. Wurt also has a climb speed of 20 though, so if he's adjacent to a wall (or a sturdy pipe or the like) he should still be able to clamber up to where he hopes to be regardless! Can he jump the 10 feet then climb the remaining 10?


If you check the map the crates aren't adjacent to any walls on the north side, only the south. So you could do what you plan to on the south but not this round as you don't have enough movement.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding where the catwalk is. What letter row(s) are the catwalks suspended above?

Edit - instead of fiddling with this for days on end, can we just spend the ki on +20 movement instead of the jump check and move me to S56?


The difficulty i've got with this basic map creation stuff is putting layers on top of eachother. In an ideal world the north catwalk would be in S41 to S61 directly above the action in the hold. Such as it is, they are just where they appear to be.

You can make Q45 with your quick movement and climb speed so I'll put you there and apologise for all this confusion - I just wanted you to know that 'teleporting' by relying on acrobatics checks is going to always be tough.

"Come on, he's gonna get away if we don't hurry!" Concussion calls out as a bullet slams into her chest, pushing her back a pace but otherwise doing little to stop her.

Trusting that Wurt will take care of the one up on the catwalk she decides to press the attack and moves to pursue the second ogre as he attempts to fall back. As she gets within striking distance she swings her hammer low, hoping to try and crush leg bones or shatter a kneecap.

Ebon moves swiftly darting after the wrench wielding henchman. Following Concussions lead he attempts to dart out of the way of any attack and tries to trip the big beast.

Concussion and Ebon dash forward and devastate the ogre with a series of hammer blows and pummeling fists. Though on it's last legs it miraculously still stands and manages to make a desperate swing at Ebon though he dodges aside easily.

Round 6 - Enemy

With the party penetrating deeper into the hull, the guards on the catwalk desperately try to lay down suppressing fire. One of them (Black) pulls a grenade from his belt and rips the pin out with his teeth, tossing it down among the gathered group the explosion is deafening and the blast wave sends deadly shards of shrapnel lancing out in all directions.

Concussion grits her teeth in pain as shrapnel tears into her skin, thankful that the grenade turned out to be something of a dud. "I'll finish this one, take care of those two up on the catwalk!"

Continuing to press the attack, she swings her weapon downward in a powerful blow aimed at the ogre's arm before following up with another swing directed at the ribs.

Ebon spins as the explosion goes off wrapping himself in a cloak of air redirecting the blast away from him.

As Concession drops the other brute he looks up at the other catwalk and makes for it running to the containers and leaping up on top of it.

Landing lightly on top he points at the two gunmen. "Put your weapons down and this can end easily for you." He shouts out at the m as he locks into a striking stance.

As if on cue, Wurt then explodes from a brief cloud of inky smoke beside the leftmost gunman, Excalibur flashing in a sudden arc.

"Güten Tag!" His pointed tail wagging hypnotically behind him, Wurt adds, "I would listen to the man if I were you." He winks, then vanishes again in another brief cloud of smoke.

As the grenade drops and the bullet tears through her body, Laura growls. Razor answers.

Charging the gunmen in the south of the room, she sprints towards them, using the crates as a giant set of stairs as she powers towards them.

Two move actions to close the distance. Using a blessing to ignore all difficult terrain this round, acrobatics to do any fancy jumps and the like: acrobatics: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30

JZ you'll have to place Laura as not 100% sure where she will end up, but she'd want to be as close as possible to the guards on the catwalk itself if possible!

Round 7 - Enemy

Concussion lives up to her chosen name and smashes her hammer into the chest of the remaining ogre guard. It flies backward, dropping it's wrench with a clatter before slamming into one of the giant steel storage crates. It bounces off the sturdy structure, leaving a heavy indent where it collided.

Ebon and Razor leap atop the containers whilst Wurt teleports around the catwalk, slashing out with his blade and confounding the gunmen.

One of 'em is up here somewhere! the man shouts, blood seeping through his fingers where Excalibur snaked out.

Just fire at the ones you can see! shouts another, following his own advice and letting the submachine roar.

Ebon once again knocks a bullet directly out of the air but this time Razor is struck multiple times, lead deflecting form living metal within her body.

Round 7 - Heroes

After this I'd like to have another quick discussion about how deadly (or not) guns should be. In the PF adaption of d20 modern that crit would have been 2d6+1+2 x4 or Crit: 8d6 + 4 + 8 ⇒ (6, 3, 6, 4, 2, 2, 6, 2) + 4 + 8 = 43. Even in standard PF rules a revolver deals x4 and there is no such thing as ballistic AC to help mitigate. Let's see how the rest of this plays out, enjoying so far!

Wurt appears from another flash of smoke, falling to the floor from a pipe running just overhead. Excalibur flashes as it bites home and Wurt turns his pupil-less eyes to the thug. "As I said, you would do well to listen to the man when he offers you the chance to surrender."

"Hah! Told you I'd take care of him," Concussion grins. Her grin quickly changes to a frown as she realizes that her next destination needs to be the catwalk.

"Really hope some sort of flight powers come in...levitation...teleportation...something..." she mutters to herself as she quickly straps her hammer across her back and starts scaling the storage crates.

Not sure how much movement it'll take but I'd like to scale the crates and then try to get to the opposing catwalk (where pink & cyan are) from there if possible.

Well this *is* a bunch of melee characters... there's an old adage about bringing knives to gunfights ^.^

...but yes, as you've previously noted, guns are still scary even without the whole touch AC thing. I'd be interested to see a Punisher, Painkiller Jane, Black Widow or even Huntress ranged build :)

Razor snarls as the bullets tear her up, and all rational thought goes out the window as she sees red.

Feet pounding along the top of the crates she throws herself across the gap, landing on the catwalk and lashing out with her blades as she lands.

I drafted up a Punisher character and I was very happy with him. Not much in the way of utility but what he did, he did with brutal effect. Besides, Microchip can always provide him with gadgets through resource points!


Been a long day guys so update this tomorrow. I think this longer drawn out scenario is a better test but I'm having particular difficulty hitting Ebon and Wurt.

Yes, we are rather melee-heavy aren't we? And I'll admit that I didn't give a whole lot of thought either way to withstanding bullets when I built C, but it does sound like some more tweaking might be in order before we start a game proper.


Round 8 - Enemy

Wurt drops down from the overhanging pipe, slashing out with Excalibur as he falls. The man beneath him has time to let out a startled screech before being pitched headlong over the catwalk to land with a sickening crunch.

The other guard shakes visibly at the appearance of the devil before him but raises his weapon and releases a burst of fire in Wurt’s direction.

But the mutant uses his latent power to disassemble his molecules, rapidly disappearing and reappearing between the traces of the bullets only to stand before the man with a charming grin on his face.

Razor closes the distance between her and the catwalk with a few powerful strides before leaping up there and slashing out at the guard who just shot her. Her wrist blade slices into the man’s exposed face, turning it into a bloody ribbon.

Instinctively, he raises his weapon and fires but he can barely see through the mask of blood and every bullet flies errant.

Concussion thuds down onto the catwalk seconds after Razor, albeit not nearly as gracefully. Noting that her teammate was looking pretty rough she moves up behind one of the gunmen and sandwiches him between herself and Razor.

"Sorry, but you should've learned when to quit," she says, her demeaner suddenly somber as she strikes at the man.

There is no more of the map to reveal yet Ebon, the catwalks don't go anywhere else and there are two doors in the east wall on the main hold floor.

With nearly all the thugs down for the count, Concussion allows the fire in her blood to cool for a moment as she moves to hop back onto the crates below.

Wurt looks like he's got things under control over there - we need to hurry up though, or Klaw's gonna get away!

As she gets to the edge of the catwalk she pauses and gives Razor a concerned look. "Are ya alright Razor? You're not looking so good..."

Dropping out of bloodrage for the moment and moving with an eye to hop from the catwalk to the crates and then back to the floor.

The beast ignores Laura and Concussion, dropping down to the floor in a lithe movement and finding the shadow of a crate to crouch down in.

Wurt grunts as the bullet bites into his side. He turns to face the gunman directly, his countenance darkening dangerously as he takes two slow, heavy steps toward him. Re: Concussion's HPs - it looks like LL might have given Concussion HD from both classes rather than just taking the larger HD?

Derp...yeah, somehow I got the HP totals jacked up in HeroLab. The Bloodrager has the better hit die (d10 vs. Vigilante's d8) so that's 6d10. She's got a base +3 Con mod so that's an additional 18. I put her FCB for each level into +1 HP so that's an additional 6. Now for the actual HPs how did you want us to treat them after 1st level? Average + 1? Or roll?

Okay, after adjusting things a bit C now has a much more appropriate total of 69 HP when she's not raging and is currently at 46/69. Sorry for the mistake! :(

I've had some of the same problem LL so used to relying on herolabs to get it right :P I think it was stacking my to hit from monk and magus so i've had to add it all up myself.

Ebon moves with Razor, stepping besides the door. "Can you continue? You should hold back we need to tighten our attack, strike as one. The closed fist deal more damage than the open palm." He smiles.
