As Farid moves into the room a cloud of darkness engulfs the group. Those without Darkvision take the penalties in the spoiler below.

Farid:

You spot something moving on the ceiling just before the room goes dark. Then you feel something drop onto your head and begin to wrap around your entire upper body. You take 3 damage and are grappled!!!

If You Are Grappled: If you are grappled, you can attempt to break the grapple as a standard action by making a combat maneuver check (DC equal to your opponent's CMD; this does not provoke an attack of opportunity) or Escape Artist check (with a DC equal to your opponent's CMD). If you succeed, you break the grapple and can act normally. Alternatively, if you succeed, you can become the grappler, grappling the other creature (meaning that the other creature cannot freely release the grapple without making a combat maneuver check, while you can). The room goes dark but you can still see with your darkvision as you begin to search for a threat you you feel something drop onto your head and begin to wrap around your entire upper body but you shake it off. You take 3 damage!!!

In areas of darkness, creatures without darkvision are effectively blinded. In addition to the obvious effects, a blinded creature has a 50% miss chance in combat (all opponents have total concealment), loses any Dexterity bonus to AC, takes a –2 penalty to AC, and takes a –4 penalty on Perception checks that rely on sight and most Strength- and Dexterity-based skill checks.

Bhoors and Ruthviren drop their ranged weapons for their melee weapons and take defensive stances. Auxavier shouts out tactics as he slides out of the grasp of one of the creatures. Serila has a cold wind run down her neck as she has a flash back to her death. Roleplay as you want. This is where Serila died in the other game.

Auxavier:

You can see a hideous octopus like creature, its thin, hook-lined tentacles connected by a fleshy web, wrapped around Farid.

The one that attacked you withdraws back up to the ceiling hovering straight up.

Farid:

The creature maintains it grip on you and begins to constrict cutting off your air supply. You take 6 damage!!!

I remember all too well, as it was my first character death ever :S

Serila stumbles back five feet, her face turning pale. One of her hands goes to her neck, which was snapped when she was killed by the very same creature the party's now facing.

"Guys," she says weakly. "I forgot... I was here before... That thing, it... killed me..."

Painful images of the moment she died appear in Serila's mind, causing her to stand helplessly in the hallway.

Bhoors shouts to keep taps on everyone as Ruthviren moves in with direction from Auxavier and stabs at the creature next to Farid. The creature is hidden to well in the darkness for the Warriors blade to find purchase.

You can feel the creature next to you take to the air and fly straight up.

Ruthviren:

You can feel the creature next to you take to the air and fly straight up just as another creature attacks you from above but fails to pierce your armor and slides off to the side.

Auxavier:

You see the creature you just hit take to the air and fly straight up. The other one just drops to attack Ruthviren.

Auxavier helps the others navigate the darkness to get out of the room as he sees the creature on the ground fly back up to the ceiling. The other one attacks Ruthviren as he is the last one to make his way to the door but Auxavier pulls the warrior to safety just in time. As the last of the group make it out of the room Bhoors slams the doors shut.

This spell causes an object to radiate darkness out to a 20-foot radius. This darkness causes the illumination level in the area to drop one step, from bright light to normal light, from normal light to dim light, or from dim light to darkness. This spell has no effect in an area that is already dark. Creatures with light vulnerability or sensitivity take no penalties in normal light. All creatures gain concealment (20% miss chance) in dim light. All creatures gain total concealment (50% miss chance) in darkness. Creatures with darkvision can see in an area of dim light or darkness without penalty. Nonmagical sources of light, such as torches and lanterns, do not increase the light level in an area of darkness. Magical light sources only increase the light level in an area if they are of a higher spell level than darkness.

If darkness is cast on a small object that is then placed inside or under a lightproof covering, the spell's effect is blocked until the covering is removed.
