Well, now... who to track down... Well, Shae's busy with his new pet, Ry's in the meeting with the Koda, Brett's doing his thing, Raz is having his interviews... Well off to Grish's then i guess...
Ka'etil's smile fades slightly as Colleen leaves, Well now, I believe that it is high time I clean up the fine mess that I have engineered. He them moves to the tent city, taking a minute to mix himself an extract of Expeditious Retreat He tracks down and asks to see him.
** spoiler omitted **
To Kae
You have little trouble finding Grishnak. His men, it seems, are fairly vigilant, and when you move near his “area” – they must have given him the tip – for as you head to his section of the ramshackle “Tent Town” – you see him striding to you, beaming with a broad smile.
As you come to the very entrance to his gates, he takes you in his arms and gives you a good, solid embrace.
”Kae, old lad – good to see you! Come on – let’s get out of the slop and get you something to eat,” he says, leading you inside.
Though it seems Grishnak is genuinely happy to see you – you have no doubt his warm embrace certainly helped his reputation that you were “good friends” – anyone on the street who saw it would certainly notice it.
He takes you inside his “house” – you see that it is a shoddy looking shack, but, once inside he leads you down some stairs into a fairly wide, open sturdy stone basement. The walls are flanked with very well laid brick – and there seems to be a few rooms down here – though you make yourself comfortable in the widest area.
Your eyes flick over the dim atmosphere – you can see toughs playing dice, while second-class whores hang off their shoulders, looking for a handout. Sensing you want to talk business – he leads you directly into a private room – roughly ten by fifteen feet. There is a solid door, which he closes, and he flings himself on a sturdy bed. There is several low chairs scattered about, and he gestures for you to sit down, as he offers you a drink from a clay pitcher – if you decline, he grins, shrugs, and drinks deeply.
Response to your issues
1. Unlicensed Fight – to the death
He grins but rolls his eyes at this concern.
”Oh come on, lad – that’s all a lot of piss, eh? First – talk about license? As my man Higonbothom told me – the license said DeVille was the only lad who right to operate “in town limits” – well, this covey of tents ain’t hardly town limits – it just be a mess of tents for those who live and do business here – but we aren’t even in town limits! Hell, I told that silver basterd who runs the troops that if it were a real issue – why… we could pick up and stage the fight a mile or so from town – but you know what? I don’t think he bloody cared! Seems as if your mate Sylvath was more interested in putting the squeeze on me – like he objected to gambling or fighting in any capacity. It’s not my fault that the lad has no balls – but if we want to do some gambling outside the town limit – hell – there’s no law for that, so just remind your friends, and I’m sure this won’t be a worry,” Grishnak says with a grin.
”Ah – I see what’s eating you – fight to the death, eh? Well – what of it? We weren’t killing citizens – far from it – we were just happening to put two or three animals together and let nature take its course, eh? If a chained bear be against a pack of wolves – who you put the money on? I say the wolves – though it may be a near thing – in the end, though – what’s the difference on betting on animals? We hunt ‘em – we eat ‘em – we kill ‘em everyday for meat – who cares if we give ‘em a fighting chance, and happen to make some coin guessing who will win?”
He offers you another grin – you sense this “opinion” may have come, again – from the renowned Higonbothom – the gnome lawyer that Grishnak uses – it seems far to “pat” an answer for his plans – but, he is right. Bear baiting, cock fighting, bull fighting, and other similar events are certainly not illegal – though to many they may prove distasteful. Still – if you’re looking for a legal reason not to punish him – he’s just given you some!
2. Friendship is bad for credibility
Grishnak nods sagely at this concept.
”Gotcha – so –we’re not supposed to be mates in public – all “hush-hush”, eh? Well – why didn’t you say so – the trick is – what do we do about it, because it looks like I put you in a bind – and that weren’t my plan – I just needed help to get your boys to get off my back so I can do business. You realize, of course – if the matches with the animals went the way I planned – hell – I would have made nearly ten thousand gold, easy – maybe more! You’d get your cut of that, to be sure – we said a piece of that action, if you help out – would be, what – twenty percent? Damn straight! You would have cleared at least two thousand gold just for keeping John Law off my shoulders so I could do what I do best – and, all completely legal, too,” he adds with a shrewd nod.
He takes another drink of his greasy swill and ponders it for a moment.
”Okay – how’s this, then – let’s say you make a big speech and bust my balls for my bad attitude – in front of the whole town – and let’s say you make me pay a huge fine, too! But uh – most of the fine will be coming back to me – so I can keep things greased, as it were, eh? And, if you want – you can even lash me a bit – I’m tough enough, but maybe keep it a little light – eh? Then, you take the money – my “sincere” apology – everyone sees you being “tough on crime” – you come off the hero – and, meantime – if you give the bulk of my fine back to me – in secret, of course – then no one knows, and we keep helping each other out, eh?” he says with a grin.
”So – what do you say, eh?” he asks about that idea.
Helping you out…
Seeing your hesitation – he shrugs with another knowing grin, then nods once and prepares to let you in on something.
”Alright – seeing as how I’m already in your bad books – I’ll let some stuff slide for free to balance things even. Maybe the information’ll be helpful to you, eh?” he says, then hops up, checks his door to see it is firmly locked, opens a tiny peephole to look out, checks around, then moves back, takes a seat next to you – and speaks quietly.
”Right,” he says – becoming all business.
”Here’s some news – first – your buddies the Koda crew? Well – there seems to be a lot of things being sold out of their area – most of it small and minor – hemp, tobacco – that sort of thing – but lately my boys have seen that they’ve been pushing both opium and Pesh – we’ve been keeping an eye on things – seems that they get the stuff smuggled up from the south – word is – they have a place where they store the goods and payment – out of town so it’s secret. Not too sure where – but my lads say the word is – there’s supposed to be a caravan coming up from south in two days time – we think they’re in some sort of caves and canyons – the caravan is supposed to have about ten thousand gold pieces worth of Pesh – plus some other incidental harmless, but rare, commodities – spices, oils and perfumes, mostly.”
He leans back a bit and glances at you.
”Look – I’ll be blunt – I wouldn’t be handing out that information so generously if I didn’t think it would be worth it – but, well – here’s the thing; that’s a business rival for us – you know I don’t deal in Pesh or opium – cliental can be a bit tricky – I prefer hemp, aphrodisiacs – that sort of thing… All pretty mundane – but the thing is – this will screw up my market, bad! And I don’t have the boys to stomp ‘em. Now – you got the tip on this location – you got a general feel where it is – and the supposed time it’s going down. You take action against these scum – you’ll not only do me a favor – but, again – you’ll be the town hero – and you’ll have whatever merchandise they’re hauling to do with what you want.”
You recognize this "caves and canyon" area to be on, or near - the very spot you met your old friend the Djinn not so long ago... Though you aren't positive what cave they'll use exactly - something tells you that it is likely that they will be very easy to find, if you go to that general area.
Grishnak then leans back and watches you.
”Any other time I’d be asking for money on this – but the thing is – we need each other. I need you to take them out before they get too rich here – and you need me to give you that kind of material – it could be useful – and hell, it is useful – tell your mates on the council I said so,” he adds.
”Oh – one other thing – we’ve seen some more inquiries about what you’ve been up to – the men we’ve heard questions from – they’re all from up north – somewhere out of Brevoy. But remember when I said you might have trouble with something up north? Well – more questions while you’ve been gone – but all the questioners have been real eager for news about you – and they’ve all come from Brevoy,” he concludes.

Looking back at Hadad al-Kazeem, she answers with distinct clarity, "I am a Councilor to the people, a custodian to all manner of creature, Mister al-Kazeem. If I can aid the community I shall endeavour to, earnestly, vigilantly. I do not show particular favour and I do not form special friendships which may be deemed unfair and unjust to the whole. If you or your brethren require assistance, or clarification of our laws, you may call upon me or any of my councilmen during your stay in our town."
"I have one last question if you can stretch your patience just a moment more. Among you and your brethen are there any magic users? I'm always a curious one when it comes to spellcasters." Her look is candid, her smile fixed and neither giving away her innermost thoughts.
Diplomacy: 1d20+10
Then after Hadad answers,
"In the wake of the Council's return, I can ensure you that we will be present in the community and we may come across you during our regular excursions through the village and districts. I thank you once more for your kind hospitality. I have taken up enough of your time this afternoon."
With that, she finishes her water, stands, rights her attire and announces to her escorts that she is ready to leave. She nods her head toward Hadad in polite farewell and turns and leaves through the tent opening, glad to be gone from its interior and the leader who resides within.
To Ariarh
Hadad’s eyes widen almost imperceptibly.
”Magic users? Why – I believe there may be some schooled in the arts of the arcane – yet, as for myself – I am not certain. Surely such things are difficult to understand to a mere teacher. Still, if I discover more evidence on the subject – naturally, I shall let you know,” he adds, then rises to bow to you at the conclusion of the interview.

Some distance away from the cultist camp, she discreetly pulls aside Henry Ironhorse and Glaidus. Dior moves to stand by her side. She scratches his head lovingly.
"Gentlemen, as we walk back to the main part of town, I wish to hear your thoughts on what you have heard and seen inside Hadad al-Kazeem's tent and camp. How does he strike you? Does he put you at ease or make you uneasy and wishing for the Council to further investigate this new religion. I would hear your thoughts, as your observations and opinions will aid in the report I must compile. But we must be mindful in the manner in which we speak for I fear there are spies about and I would not like us to be overheard."
"And before we head back to the Ironhorse's home, I would like to stop off at DeVille's establishment. He has an employee there I wish to speak with. If that is alright with you both?"
To Ariarh
Glaidus and Henry agree with you – they are happy to present you with their opinions – but on the street – so close to prying eyes and ears – this is hardly safe! They will, naturally – offer you all information that they can when you return home.
You notice, however – Glaidus especially seems tense and agitated – as if he is very uncomfortable about something – but we will speak no more of it at this time… At least, until you can get behind a safe door.
The two follow your lead, then, and head to DeVille’s establishment.

"Don't mention, friend," Oleg says with a glance at you."However - when you get all your stuff figured out - I'd not mind my cut of it, eh?" Oleg says suggestively.
"I mean - you got a square deal out of that guy there - how about, when you get things appraised and coin settled - you give me a piece of that action - say, five percent of the total find?"
Though Oleg is "asking" - this is actually his "finders fee" for aiding you, which he mentioned earlier. After all Gold is said and done - he will be getting 1/20th of the gold in value for himself - you can either pay him straight - or encourage the group to split the cost with him - which is very reasonable, considering without this information they may not be able to have anything solved at all. In any case - chalk this cost up to a "Finders Fee" - but if you can get the others to split the cost with Oleg - that may help him too.
Shaezon chuckles warmly, "That sounds more than reasonable, friend. As a matter of fact if you can help to continually grease the wheels of my business I'm more than happy to pay a reasonable fee for such a service."
In other words Shaezon is happy to pay Oleg if he can help keep his business running in whatever savvy way Oleg can. Help with government, travelers, common folk, stuff like that.
To Shaezon
While Oleg is now the mayor of his town to the north – as well as a formal member of the council – you know that deep down inside he is still a businessman who likes a good deal! You also know – so long as you pay him – he’ll happily help you to the best of his abilities.

Galen nods slowly at this statement.

Arasmes returns Isani's smile with one of his own and bows in return. I look forward to working with you more in the future, Isani. I think this Interfaith Council will make a great deal of difference in the success or failure of our fledgling country.
Turning, Arasmes looks hard at the Mul and then says That sounds like a deal. I have to get the council to approve it first which shouldn't take long as they are the ones with the access to the treasury but I am sure they will agree.
He looks over Clari and Lazurien and says What about you two? Do you have any plans for what you will do now that you are here?
After their responses Arasmes stands and says Well that is all I had for you. In the meantime, relax and eat and drink your fill and I will be back shortly after speaking to the council.
Arasmes will then leave with a bow and try and find Brett, Ry, or Kae. Whoever is closest and available.
To Arasmes
The Mul nods once.
”Done with you, then,” Khromm grunts, then sticks out his hand to shake, and seal the deal.
When that arrangement is concluded, he speaks again.
”I’ll need parchment, and something to write with – bring it to me with the 1,000 gold pieces, I can start writing all the details and sketch out a map for you now,” he adds, his tone matter-of-fact, if not a bit abrasive.
He leans back in the chair and waits for your “prompt response” – so he can begin work right away!
Brett, and Drake – are in the room next to you working on a formal “speech” that the council will give to the community to formally recognize your appointment as “Expert on Southern Affairs” – as well as Drake’s appointment as “Deputy Mayor” when the council is away. They intend to work hard on it – and hope everyone can aid them in the process, so when they tell the town – the town is not “in the dark” about such matters – but eager to see them in place; and enthusiastic about the decisions.

So tonight Shaezon needs to scribe Identify to his spell book (takes an hour and cost 10G)
He'll then call the spell from his book using his bonded item power and browse the items to determine what he can with a +25 to the check.
Repeat the next morning as needed.
To Shaezon
You will not need to pay the 10 gold pieces – that is already taken care of due to your shrewd bargaining – only the money you paid the shop keeper. Also – hearing your plans, Galen will attempt to “aid you” – in the roll – just let me know when you plan on doing it, and he will assist, if he can.
You will need to do it on each item, of course - but you gather quickly that all the "leaves" you found have the exact same powers and abilities.
One other thing - you may be able to rustle up Adjt and Aliento to help you decipher this stuff - if you can find them...
You’ll see Galen's sheet soon – promise – I’m just pretty busy now, is all.

She watches Arasmes ibn'Fayad leave the dining hall.
Turning to her companions, she initiates a conversation in quiet spoken voice, "What do you make of these people? Are we to trust them, take them at their word?" It is not as though she distrusts the foreign dignitary (or the Councilmen) but she always erred toward caution when it came to strangers and dealings with them, especially after the episode with The Black Koda.

Arasmes ibn'Fayad |

Arasmes shakes Khromm's hand and then goes to the next room to speak with Brett and Drake.
Waiting until they reach a stopping point he says I have finished my interviews with the southerners. Obviously it is too soon to be completely sure but I do not believe that they seek to cause the town or people of Saravale harm. In addition, they have had close contact with the Black Koda and Khromme, the Mul, a race of half-dwarves that are quite rare even in the south known for their ferocity and strength, has some extensive information on the Black Koda and their activities including but not limited to an exact location of their town, details on their forces and numbers, and so on. Naturally he seeks to be paid for this information and I have agreed with the proviso that one of the council members approves the funds. We have agreed on a sum of 1000 pieces of gold with an additional 1000 pieces should the information prove as substantial as he claims. He was actually in the camp for a time as a slave and prisoner. I believe his word trustworthy. One thing about half-dwarves is that they are said to never break a contract once agreed. If this is acceptable to you Councilman Rowan, then I can go and retrieve the preliminary funds and get parchment and ink for the information from Khromm.

Ka'etil will respond to Grishnak with a hearty pat on the back. "Something to eat sounds good." Kae follows Grishank along, into the room, and takes a seat in one chair, putting his feet up on another. He'll take a cup of what Grishnak offers, and have a sip, then get down to business.
hearing grishnak's responses
"I'll figure out how exactly i want to handle the situation publicly, but there's gotta be some kind of consequence for hassling Sylvath, like you suggested. Levying a fine sounds like an idea, I'll figure it out. Now, to keep things running smoothly, It'd make things easier if you got a license for running events, call the cut you were going to give me a tax, maybe tax winnings in general... Anyway I'll work out those sorts of details. You'll still make your money, and things should run more smoothly for me," Ka'etil suggests.
Then with a nod and another sip of the drink, he continues, "However it works out, if you take the slap on the wrist, and step in line and stay under the radar for a while I should be able to get things settled."
Kae laughs and smiles as Grishnak tells him about the drug shipment. He stands up and extends a hand to Grishnak to shake it. "Now that's something i can work with. Sharing that information, we can seize the shipment, stop the Pesh from entering the city. Perfect!"
"In terms of what we've been doing, there was a threat up north in the Temple of Erastil. It has been purged. From where exactly do these northerners that you mentioned come from? Who are they, and where can they be found? I'd like to meet with them, if they are so interested in us and our activities. And any other word about the other city that's been established, and the place to he south with the portals that you warned me about previously?"
last time grishnak mentioned: 3. Bombshell news: Grishnak heard that there has been a cult operating near your city for years, far away to the south – about a week or two – so they say. However – the cult had some connections with people much farther down south, and the rumor is that they opened a gateway – not unlike an “elf-gate” between their lands and smack against your border. Supposedly this cult invited honest folk who were looking for a fresh start to come through the magical transportation and find a new beginning. When they got there they were promptly enslaved. Somewhere, again – he doesn’t know where totally – off to the south west – there’s rumored to be a growing village or small town of powerful magic users and warriors that control the workers – namely slaves. As an aside, Grishnak informs you that the lands that were between the magical teleport and this were actually very far south. Specifically – Osirion. He’s nervous that this “Black Kota” gang may be getting their funding from this rumored growing southern town; which (thanks to magic) is right near your borders somewhere, Though none of your allies has seen anything like it on the map - (again, the rumor is that the town is to the south west; none of your folk ever bothered to explore there) – but the village, though it is populated by desert folk - is not thousands of miles away like Osirion – but literally two or three weeks away – give or take. And that somewhere very close to your capital a rival faction is growing in power and may have already infiltrated your land with spies and agents.
After having left Grishnak, Kae will re-join the others to report the information he's gathered.

A young woman approaches you - she is fair skin with some odd tattoos on her face, and a mane of long dark hair. She smiles at you, and bobs a discreet curtsy.
"Beg pardon - miss Bridget is with a client - she should be available in about half an hour?"
Glancing over your shoulder at Glaidus and Ironhorse, and suddenly realizing who you are, you think you see her glance at someone behind you all, give a quick nod, then smile again.
"Of course - while you wait - perhaps you'd like to enjoy yourself? We have refreshments, of course - and, perhaps you'd like to have a bit of fun at the tables? One hundred gold pieces in chips to game with are free on the house - a courtesy of Mister DeVille - he is always happy to welcome guests," she adds pleasantly, though you see no sign of Mister DeVille at this time.
The place is fairly busy, and you see there is a modest sized stage which you hadn't seen before - though it is currently empty. There are various gaming tables - including tables for dice, cards, and some sort of "Wheel of Chance".
You realize that though the chips are a nice gesture - it isn't as "sleazy" as one may think - DeVille is certainly not offering you a bribe or anything - rather, you suspect a pleasing amusement; as, chances are - you'll gamble your chips away anyhow, though of course - if you win - you'll end up making some coin.
If you'd like to gamble at this time - let me know - we can roll that out, too.
Meanwhile - you have little to do but wait; even as Ironhorse glances around the place with a bored expression, you can see Glaidus is eyeing the chips with some enthusiasm, but naturally does nothing to take them - such action would be inappropriate - unless, of course - he had your permission?
If you want to game and "Gather Information" via Diplomacy, let me know - or we can fast-forward to Bridget - the others will simply take your cue as what to do, by the way.

3. A basket woven of thin branches, like a cornucopia.
Good enough! Your guy is coming soon, by the way - I shall be interested to see how this plays out!

Oh no! You already shook his hand - by Southern terms the contract is struck! If Brett and Drake don't agree - you, Arasmes, will be in very big trouble with Khromm! Let's see what happens next...
Brett looks staggered at the sum, and wipes his hand over his mouth to push away the frustration at such a huge figure.
"Why - that - he... Grah! He wants nearly 2,000 gold for a map and some details... Ooh, that cheap basterd! That's ridiculous - we could find this place ourselves," he growls out.
Drake quickly reaches out a hand to soothe the annoyed halfling.
"Too true, I'm afraid, but if good Arasmes is correct - the true advantage is knowing the details of the encampment - who to trust, who to believe - and who we can count on. If this "mule" is true to his word - then I should think that he is undervaluing the information!" Drake says quickly and quietly.
"Eh - how so?" Brett responds, as you all move closer together, to avoid prying ears from outside.
"Consider," Drake says quickly "This place is populated by - at the least - magic users. For didn't they all travel through some sort of magic door from thousands of miles away? They must have great power, and a town besides - even now they're trying to infiltrate us - why shouldn't we do the same to them? We may send our own folk to their town - and start a delicate game of diplomacy, or hit and run assaults or raids," he adds with a glance around you.
"True - but why should we be successful there while they are failing here," Brett queries.
"Because they have built their town on slavery - surely over half of their own "Citizens" are able to - if not willing to - revolt! If we hire some of our men as "mercenaries" - or guardsmen - we may spread the word that way - and, when the time is right - encourage a revolt, and with good luck - seize control of the city! Then, with little expense in building, though - of course - we must consider the cost of lives," he adds quickly, becoming excited about the project "We should be able to have control of the city - and put those slaver scum on the gallows by autumn at the latest! And if not that - we'll slowly erode their strength - but, gentlemen - I tell you - if this southerner - this "Khromm" can give us a key to unlocking that city - we should have our entire western flank opened for new means of travel, trade, and a bastion to this growing kingdom... Never mind the spoils that are there - but we should have freed the people, put down their dark masters - struck a blow against an evil cult - and, if we are clever - the town may yet be ours!" Drake concludes, then leans back, and smiles broadly at his assessment.
Brett nods his head a bit, rubbing his jaw, then grins and pats Arasmes on his arm.
"Well lad, it seems that I be in the wrong - if my boy Drake says it's so - then I reckon that yer decision be - in time - a fair investment indeed!" Brett adds with a chuckle.
"Well - after you see his notes - take 2,000 gold pieces from our Treasury and pay it out to him - just make sure everything looks good before you hand over the loot, though - but, I'll leave it to you. Oh - by the way - as we're hashing this out - you got any notion on what you'd like to be your formal title in town for this speech?" Brett adds absently as he continues to "tweak" the speech he and Drake are working on, even as he hands you some scrolls, a pen and an inkwell.

Bombshell news: Grishnak heard that there has been a cult operating near your city for years, far away to the south – about a week or two – so they...
Grishank takes another gulp of the stale ale -
"The lads that looking for rumor on you be from Brevoy, lad - as I said - they all have the same trick of the accent, and lingo and such - most of them be real sly in questioning - we only put that together recent-like..." Grishank adds.
"I don't know if things be correct about the temple - whatever you done to it be out of my concern - I'm thinking you have something north more... mundane, but that doesn't mean less dangerous, eh?" Grishnak adds.
Grishnak then resolves to take your advice and be more subtle - though he is somewhat confused on what this "radar" you speak of is...
It seems quite clear the city to the south west he told you about is one and the same as the one Khromm mentioned - though that shall all be clear later - point is - in this case his information is accurate!
Finally -
I don't know who you run into first until I know more about your plans - for now, everyone is in Cloudwatch Keep - except Ariarh who is with DeVille - though you don't know that. If you have any other plans - let me know - and we can go form there. I won't be able to tell you who in the party you meet next - until I know more about your plans and where you go next.

Khromm |

She watches Arasmes ibn'Fayad leave the dining hall.
Turning to her companions, she initiates a conversation in quiet spoken voice, "What do you make of these people? Are we to trust them, take them at their word?" It is not as though she distrusts the foreign dignitary (or the Councilmen) but she always erred toward caution when it came to strangers and dealings with them, especially after the episode with The Black Koda.
Khromm leans back, suddenly aware of Isani's very delectable curves and features - as if seeing them for the first time. Still - he stifles his thoughts on that matter, and shrugs with a grunt.
"Huh - if they're false - then we kill them. For now they've done nothing to earn my ire - but they seem far too trusting."
"In the south we know that a man who trusts overmuch is one who hasn't seen things to doubt. So - they're not used to dark things - they give people the benefit of the doubt, and that means they haven't seen darkness in full power - else they'd be more nervous," he adds with a bored sigh.
"But - as they aren't more afraid; of us, or seemingly anything - which I think means it's damn likely that they just haven't seen much darkness. Evil folk are near bathed in darkness - and, as these folk are so trusting, and removed from darkness - I don't think we've got much to worry about from them, as if that matters," he adds with a shrug.

"Thank you for the information and help. I'll see what i can do with the rest, and let you know what's going on. Oh, and good job with the information about the Pesh shipment." he adds. "I gotta get back."
Kae returns to Cloudwatch keep to find the others, looking to share the new about what he's learned, and discuss how to deal with the situation with grishnak.

Heading out for the evening. WIll catch up tomorrow. Basically Shaezon is looking for the other casters to assist him in identifying.
You will be able to discover - with help from your friends - both Aliento and Adjt - they will each aid you - if they can - during the course of the evening. You also can get the magical gear - but it is at the fortress under guard at this time.

Arasmes ibn'Fayad |

Oh no! You already shook his hand - by Southern terms the contract is struck! If Brett and Drake don't agree - you, Arasmes, will be in very big trouble with Khromm! "Too true, I'm afraid, but if good Arasmes is correct - the true advantage is knowing the details...
Arasmes smiles at Drake and Brett and says I am glad you agree although I need to get 1000 first as a sign of good faith with Khromm. The other 1000 will come if the information is as good as he says. If he can give us accurate counts then as Drake says it would be invaluable to us. So with that do I have your permission to draw 1000 pieces from the treasury? Also as for my title I have several ideas. International Envoy, Ambassador, Foreign Liaison, Chief Emissary. I am sure that more could be thought of but those are the ones I have heard of in other countries for someone doing the duties that I would be.
Once Brett gives permission to get the gold, Arasmes will go and take it from the treasury and bring back 2 sacks of 1000 pieces. Also before he returns to the other room he will summon Caliphana to introduce when he walks back in.
Returning to the room he says to the assembled group This is Caliphana, my most trusted friend. Caliphana enters the room. She has significantly changed since the last time she was summoned. That is why her description is different. She now has a pair of large dragon like wings that come off of between her shoulderblades. These powerful wings have a bony ridge across the leading edge that seems to be seeping with a small layer of some green liquid. She has a long neck and sharp claws and fangs that also seem to have a similar green sheen to them. She no longer has horns sweeping forward off of her head. On her back is a bony section that looks smoothed and polished as if it was designed for a rider. Once inside she surveys the group and sits down next to Arasmes as he resumes his seat at the table. Arasmes hands over ot Khromm the ink, quill, and parchment that he procured while returning from the treasury. Along with this he sets a heavy bag upon the table next to the ink and parchment. I hope this is satisfactory.

Isani Isu |

She sits transfixed at the unusual creature, this Caliphana. She has never beheld such an animal as this. Her mismatched eyes move between Arasmes ibn'Fayad and his pet.
She finds her voice after a few minutes, "Greetings, Caliphana. Thank you for your kind welcome." She returns the bow as is the way of courtesy and good manners.

Dain GM |

Should I role play finding them, or just roll?
You can just roll - but you won't get the "results" until after appropriate amount of time studying the items - I believe that will be sometime by morning, though I could be mistaken.
Adjt will find you - as will Aliento - shortly after dinner.
For more on "Adjt" - Click Here.
Though lengthy - it will give you lots of insight on the kobolds, their moods and attitudes.

There is nothing to see - the room is fairly empty - and this is somewhat surprising. You were under the impression that the party would convene at evening meal to talk with you properly - and though the half-elf barbarian has arrived just recently - you also know the halfling and the human who is to be appointed deputy are in the next room working on some documents - even so - you wonder vaguely what has happened to the woman with the blue eyes and golden hair... She alone seems to be missing, and you wonder what she is doing...

Never having been a gambling person, Ariarh thanks the young woman for Mister DeVille's generous hospitality but declines the chips herself. She notices Glaidus' enthusiastic expression as he glances at the chips and turns to the silver kobold fighter, eyebrow cocked but kind in her attitude, "Glaidus, we are short on time and I must return to the fortress by six. Mayhap another time."
Please fast forward to conversation with Bridget.

Presumably you would prefer to see Bridget in private – even if you don’t – she will request this of you, assuming you do so – the following occurs. But, she wants no guards, not even Dior to be in the room when you two are alone…
”Oh miss Kane,” she says holding you tightly, as a dear friend might ”I am so glad you’ve returned –I’ve been – that is to say – all of us have been very worried. We feared for your safety, and now – seeing that you’re back safe and whole – I want to tell you so much, but – well – what is on my mind – to mention it now, that you’ve just returned, it would seem vulgar. But, as I have heard you are pressed for time, I must say it quickly, for I fear it could be important to you,” she says, pressing against you tenderly, as she still holds you.
Then, she releases you with an embarrassed look – and smiles a bit – and begins to tell you what news she can.
”Since you’ve been gone, things have been very disturbing,” she begins.
”There is some ruffians in the town – a half-orc, you may have heard of him – and he and his men have been very insulting, and – if I may so – I’ve been very nervous of him,” she adds, looking as if even saying these could get her into trouble. Still, she gives you a trusting look, and continues.
”This Grishnak fellow – he’s been using his ruffians to cause my employer a lot of frustration. He’s been losing business – and I know you’ve warned me about some mister DeVille’s more… disturbing practices – well, the fact is, most of what he’s been doing is just trying to run gambling games, and sell drinks. Why – he even had a little boxing match – it was very exciting, and the whole town loved it,” she says with a little shrug at the idea.
”But lately – it’s been getting worse. We’ve had all sorts of bad problems – it seems this Grishnak has taken to proclaiming he’s going to stage animal fights – because he wants to be the chief of this town, as he puts it – and the money he makes from betting on the animal fights – he’ll no doubt use to help himself do more and more dangerous things!”
”He’s even claiming to be a council member – and no one is really sure about this – but Grishnak says that your fellow officer – this half-elf Kae’etil? Grishnak said councilman Kae'etil paid him 5,000 gold pieces so that he would act as a private “enforcer” for your half-elf general – so that this mister Grishnake could be some sort of vigilante wing of the police! Miss Kane, I simply don’t understand it – your council just recruited over three hundred men to protect the city – why should this half-orc think he’s somehow more important, and deserving of 5,000 gold pieces from the cities private treasury? And why would your good council member, this general Malas'rae pay 5,000 gold pieces to Grishnak for anything? What kind of hold does this half-orc have over your friend?”
Bridget looks both distressed and nervous at this point.
”I’m worried, miss Kane – if this Grishnak is extorting power over your mister Malas’rae – he may be in trouble! I think he should stay away from this Grishnak fellow – it could be dangerous – never mind what the citizens are saying!” she adds.
She shakes her head in frustration.
”And of course – there is a lot to be said about the citizens here! Why – that miss Goodwyfe? She’s pestered our establishment sense before it opened, as you know – but it seems we’re not the only ones she has a bee in her bonnet about.”
”Did you know that the good and kind silver kobolds have commissioned a temple to their god – an “Apsu” – a goodly god of dragons, as I hear tell. Well – as you also know – this land has taken Erastil as its patron – and it seems that miss Goodwyfe doesn’t care for this change of pace one bit! She feels that the kobolds are trying to put their god over the god of the city,” she says with an annoyed look.
”Between you and I – I don’t think Goodwyfe would have even cared – except for the fact that someone donated some things to the temple worth 10,000 gold pieces – stones, in fact – they were appraised, of course – I’ve never seen stone like this – but they say it is very valuable! Naturally – that kind of donation put the building ahead very fast – because they sold some of the stones – and people bought them, and mister DeVille even bought some, because they are supposed to be rare. But of course – miss Goodwyfe keeps pestering your poor friends who are just trying to make a go of building their shrine. Can’t you do anything to help them? It just doesn’t seem fair to me that someone who is supposed to be supporting “moral virtue” would suddenly decide to prevent another from the worship of a good and noble god – especially as these poor kobolds have so little,” she adds, looking up you with a hopeful face.
”Oh – that reminds me – would you like to see one of the stones? Mister DeVille gave me one as a present, he’s very generous,” Bridget adds, and removes from her hair a long delicate comb which is – apparently – carved from this very rare stone.
Knowledge: Nature – to try to identify the stone…
”Say miss Kane – do you like it? I think it’s really pretty – and the color is so nice with my hair. I’m very happy that mister DevVille made me a gift of this – despite his ways, I think deep down he’s a very nice person – but he’s had some hard knocks in his life, and it makes it difficult for him,” she adds, wondering what you think of the comb.
Bridget watches you look at the small comb – she says nothing now, only listens – wondering what questions you may have for her…

Brett Rowan |

"Councilwoman Kane is absent. Is Council business keeping her from the Hall?"
She poses the question to any Councilmen or dignitary present in the dining hall with them.
"Don't you worry about Miss Kane," Brett says coming into the room, and offering Khromm a tall mug of beer, which he drinks without glancing up from his notes.
"Here my boy - brought you a snack - I made it myself - just fer ye," Brett says, bringing a small plate with some seasoned ribs on it - the meat still sizzling from where he plucked it from the fire in the dining hall below.
Khromm reaches for the ribs - then looks at Brett, and catches the Halfling's eye, and he pales considerably, his hand sliding away from the ribs slowly.
"Hmm... not hungry? Why - that's a shame," Brett says, plucking up the rib and chomping loud and lustily on it, as he grins at Khromm, and favors Isani with a quick wink.
"Oh - that's so delicous," Brett adds, loud and deliberately, as Khromm frowns but says nothing.
"Ye know lad - ye ought to eat - why, ye're nothing but skin and bones - at least - I reckon you could have more meat on ye, eh?" he finishes with a flourish and laughs, and as Khromm mutters something under his breath, then gets up from the table to work somewhere else.
Brett flings himself into the chair and gestures to the clay mug.
"It's not as strong as Osirion beer, I'm afraid - but it'll fill you up right proper, if I do say so," he adds, handing Isani the beer.
"Anyhow - I know a little rumor or two of the southlands - interesting tales about my... what should we call them? Ah hell - my "distant cousins" - for lack of a better name... Anyhow - interesting tales indeed," he adds with another laugh.
"Now - don't ye worry about Ry lass, she has some trusty mates to watch over her - and business in town - nay doubt she'll be done in time fer dinner - she has about an hour left - and though it takes about thirty minutes to ride up here... Well, I reckon that would give her time to finish her business - as needed - then had up here to share the new while we eat," Brett adds with a cheerful grin.
"They say ye're a priestess, eh? Well - what god's do ye pray to? Me - done become turned around on religion - now I follow ol' Apsu - if ye can believe that," he adds with a laugh "Seems the kobolds here done talked so pretty on him - I couldn't resist - and anyway - we haven't had a true priest or priestess stay in or around this town for more then a month, I reckon. So I hope ye'll stick around - it'd be nice to have a good jaw about the gods, and hear some different thoughts on the matter - as it were," he adds, then folds his hands over his chest and prepares himself for whatever information Isani wants to share with him; even as Arasmes helps Drake go over the speech together.

Clari Miali'ahel |

Khromm pauses from his notes and glances up at Isani - he makes a strange gesture - and you recognize it vaguely - it looks like a warding gesture.
It seems the good mister Khromm may be afraid of your Evil Eye - even so, he does not challenge your claim to his work, and simply continues to write.
It's funny, cause Clari has the evil eye and cackle hexes, not Isani... lol
...and seeing as Kae's just arrived...
Dammit, took too long writing, so now i got to edit to fit brett's entrance in.
-exposition time?-
Ka'etil enters the hall, and glances at the guests, seeing Arasmes, he tells the tiefling, "I've gathered some information that you may find particularly interesting. I shall share it when the rest arrive." He pays the newcomers little attention, considering Khromm's rudeness, and not being particularly familiar with the newcomers, not to mention having other things on his mind. He takes a seat and draws out a sheef of papers covered in strange arcane symbols, notations in messy short-hand, and what appears to be circles of text with blood in the centers his alchemist research. He's on the verge of another discovery that will leave some interesting changes.... With a quick wave to Brett when the Halfling enters, and a glance at Isani, he keeps his eyes on his papers, pondering...
<Well, little one, there he is. He seems to be unaware of your presence yet. Perhaps he has forgotten you? what are you waiting for!>
Clari grips the hilt of her blade tightly, and glares down at it <Silence Keravel. Don't go interrupting me now of all times.> SHe approaches Ka'etil. "Malas'rae, it is good to finally see you again, brat!" Clari, not yet fully grown, not even 100, still a child by elven reckoning addresses a council-member, a man who looks like he should be a decade her senior.
The half-elf looks up at the girl from his notes his confused expression turning to disbelief. "Cla-Clari, is that you? What are you doing here in Saravale?" He sets down his notes, and stand towering over the girl, looking most bewildered.
"Looking for you. I was hunting for your father, but..."
"DId you find him? Is he dead" Ka'etil grasps her by the shoulders, eyes wide, his breathing rapid.
"No. I chased him through several countries, but he eluded me in the Hold of Belkzen." She's somewhat confused by Kae's reaction. It's as if he wants his father to be dead, but diesn't at the same time. Maybe he wants to kill the man himself?
Ka'etil releases the girl, relaxing slightly, and returns to being puzzled. "The Hold. but he was a human, wasn't he? That's a land of orc..."
She glares at Ka'etil as he turns from her. "Well does it not explain so much about you. You've got orc blood in your veins you abominable bastard. No wonder you turned out a beast!" she spits these words at him, but not to the intended effect.
"Orc? wait, he's orcish?" Kae asks.
"Yes, descended from a chieftain of a clan of the warmongering savages, watered down over generations, but that taint..."
"still flows there, full of power. That's what i've been missing!" he says as he turns to his notes. he mumbles something like "...why ... failed... missing... ye... right here..."
<Ignoring you. At least he's taken up academics...> Keravel whispers in Clari's mind.
"What the hell are you going on about! I'm trying to talk to you!" She shouts, stomping her foot.
"I am sorry. But now is not the time for this," Kae says, looking at the others in the room.
"Dammit MALAS'RAE!" she cries at him. "Shut up!"
Kae closes his eyes for a moment, then motions for the door. "I apologize, Clari. I am listening."
She glares hard at Ka'etil, but follows him out of the dining hall, although not necessarily out of earshot, at least they aren't talking in the middle of the room with an audience right there. "You haven't changed a bit since I left, have you. I've been hunting you father tirelessly, ever since I found it was him that slaughtered my family. But he escaped me and there was no way I could track him in Belkzen. I've been In Kyonin ever since, but hearing about you, a Half-breed Beast, I came to find out if it was you... I"
"So that is is the reason you left without a word to me those years ago." he asks, voice harsh and eyes hard and accusing.
"When i found our who you were. What you were. Who's SON you were. You're HIS flesh and blood! how could I..." Hate burns bright in her eyes, yet there is a mist, and a rogue tear slides down her cheek. "You look like him, Malas'rae. I can see his face in yours."
Kae rises, looking at the girl, who suddenly looks less like the vicious and insane wild-thing, but more like an angry and hurt girl. "Mother saw him every time she looked at me as well. That is the reason i left. Knowing why she looked at me the way she did was too much." He reaches out to the girl, and embraces her, sighing heavily. "I am truly sorry about what my father did to your family."
"He'll pay." remembering the man that slew her loved ones so vividly is too much for the girl, but Ka'etil's is still a familiar face, one with whom she had shared what little happiness she's experienced since the loss. He was always an immature brat to her, but now he is more grown than she, thanks to her slow aging. The closest thing to family she has is this bastard that she's learned to hate over the past decade, while hunting down his father.
"Yes. I swore I would kill him for what he did to my mother." He releases her, and looks down at the girl. "And for what he did to your family. I promise you, he shall die. WE will kill him.". Clari looks up at him, believing his words and nods, then returns to being held. "Will you be alright? Do you need to..." he asks her, voice trailing off, not at all sure what to do about this girl here.
After a few moments, she pushes away from him, her eyes hard and mouth sneering again, her default expression, "There is no time for weeping about the past. There is death to be dealt hear and now, and there is no place for weakness within the avenger." She turns and re-enters the Dining hall, fully recovered from her breakdown.

Ka'etil Malas'rae |

Ka'etil stands there not moving just blinking for several moments, then slowly returns to the dining hall.
He somewhat sheepishly waves to those assembled uncertian..."Well, for those who are not entirely aware, or for clarity's sake... well, This is Clari. She's my... um... well, we grew up together in the forests of Brevoy, My mother took her in. Anyway..." Kae moves to a place near brett, taking a mug and filling it with beer, and collapses into a seat. "I need a drink" he informs the halfling. He then drains the vessel, picks up a rib, takes a bite, then re-fills his cup, trying to make sense of things.
Rather quietly, he confides "Things get complicated when you age different. She has been about that age for the entirety of my life. She was much older than me, until I was her age, and now she's just a girl." Kae shakes his head, taking another bite of meat and a deep draught of beer.
She looks like she has not aged a day, yet is completely different! She was always harsh, cold, but now, she's even more war-like than I am, than I ever was! Whew, who would have imagined.
"These ARE fantastic, by the way! Really, top notch."

Ariarh Kane |

She listens to Bridget talk of the boxing match, the unsanctioned animal bloodsport, the shrine to Apsu and Kae's association with the disreputable and unpopular Grishnak. And then finally the bejewelled comb. She delicately turns the comb in her hands, looking closely at the stones, gauging their makeup and value.
"It is very pretty."
Knowledge, Nature (on the stones): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Appraise (on the stones/comb): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
"Bridget, I am happy that you felt comfortable enough to tell me about Grishnak's activities during my absence." With her free hand she clasps Bridget's arm gently, wondering if Bridget had an ulterior motive in speaking poorly of Grishnak, although she could understand why, she wondered if DeVille had a hand in this "information sharing". Still, she gave Bridget the benefit of the doubt and showed her kindness and tried to put her at ease.
"Grishnak is no Councilman, my dear. He has no sanctioned power or legitimate influence in Saravale and if he is spreading such words than they are lies. I mean to get to the bottom of this now I am back in town. Also, I will not condone senseless animal bloodsport and will do all in my power not to permit its legalisation, and will petition to outlaw it. I will speak with the other Councilmen in regard to this issue."
"In regard to Councilman Ka'etil Malas'rae and his so-called association and secret dealings with the half-orc Grishnak, I will speak to him directly and seek the truth of it from his mouth. If there is something going on that the rest of the Council are not aware of then I shall uncover it. I know Councilman Ka'etil and I am sure there is a reasonable explanation to what is being insinuated around town." Her brows furrow in deep thought and anxiety as her concerns since they left for the Temple of the Elk were now revived and ever-present. What is going on in this town? We set out to make a respectable, honourable capital and here I am inundated with claims of illegal activities and gambling, bloodsports, secret dealings and lies, not to mention spies and a possible infiltration of The Black Koda gang. The Council is losing control and we must stop this!, she ponders silently, head partially bowed. Kae, please do not be involved with Grishnak.
Looking back up at Bridget, "Trust me when I say I will seriously look into these matters. Please give me a little time as I have only just returned to Saravale. Is there anything else, Bridget? Are you well? Apart from the half-orc's insulting conduct and Mistress Goodwyfe's meddling, are you enjoying being in Saravale? Have there been other issues? How is ... business?" Shyly, she smiles at the woman.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Isani Isu |

She waves aside the offering of beer. "I mean no rudeness, Mister Brett, but I favour water. Thank you. This will do", pointing to her mug of water on the table in front of her.
The Holbyt was certainly bold in his manner, recollecting the wink he sent her way. He has a similar mischievousness to Eirene, in a way, she reflects privately.
"You mentioned distant relations from the southlands. Would you share your story of them with me? I do enjoy interesting tales."
Sometime after Brett shares his tale...
"I am a Priestess of the Everlight, the benevolent Lady Sarenrae. Have you heard of her?"
"And it does not strike me strange at all that you should follow the teachings of Apsu for each person chooses their own path, one that can be separate to society's expectations or preferences. I was fortunate to study under great tutors, priests and priestesses in Sothis, protected within the walls of the Temple of the Eternal Sun. You could say I am a scholar with a deep curiosity. My teachers would share with me many ancient proverbs and one I have taken very much to heart goes like this, The seed includes all the possibilities of the tree. The seed will develop these possibilities, however, only if it receives corresponding energies from the sky." She flashes Brett a bright, rare smile, as if the light and textures in the proverb expanded her very soul. She is silent for a moment, cataloguing her thoughts and responses, and touching the ankh about her neck.
"I do not wish to bore you, Mister Brett. I seek refuge and position within your town. I am learned and have practical healing skill and the compassion that goes hand-to-hand with it. The Everlight has blessed me with my abilities and I undertake my duty with utmost dedication. Mister ibn'Fayad has proffered the idea of an Interfaith Council and I must admit the purpose of it has struck me with a certain fervor and would like to be included. In addition, I possess a proficiency in dealing with Undead creatures (and in the abolition of irredeemable corruption). My upbringing has allowed me to develop a certain tact in my manner of speech and idealism which in turn allows me to be effective in resolving feuds and disputes. During my education, I aided in archeological finds throughout Osirion, and you will find I have a fine eye for detail and valuation."
She is not bragging as she makes her "speech". It is more as though she is sharing a snapshot of her skills and strengths, but too, you have a feeling there is much more to this priestess.
"Will you tell me some of your own story, Mister Brett? How you came to this land and became part of its prominent council?"

Shaezon Silverfall |

Just remembered I need to have a conversation with Oleg.
At some point when Shaezon and Oleg are walking together. "Master Oleg, I am in need of some land to build a school. I think a short distance from the city would be appropriate. Perhaps a couple hours by horseback. On a mountain would be ideal, but I'm not aware of any around here. I was wondering if perhaps you had any thoughts on the matter?"

To Kae
Brett’s eyes widen at this unusual homecoming. He deliberately makes it a point to ignore the situation, though, and say nothing.
In Brett’s experience – even interrupting such an emotional display to ask “is everything okay” can often embarrass the parties. When they are more comfortable with talking – he’ll happily engage them. But for now he says nothing until he is addressed directly.
At Kae’s comments about the ribs – Brett grins, and offers the plate to this “Clari”.
Brett knows that Clari is not likely to be adventuring with the group for some time – as she is clearly so new to town – however – Brett also feels that it would be good to keep her abreast of things, and give her a safe place to stay. He makes a mental note to pass on to Kae – if the half-elf has forgotten – that Selendria Grear – the elven Alchemist who lives with David, the warrior from Galt – they are goodly folk, and the elven girl has knowledge in Alchemy, and experience with young children besides – may be able to help “ease” Clari in when the party goes off on its next adventure.
Of course, Brett muses to himself – he may not need to go to such extremes. Perhaps Ariarh will be willing to share a room with Clari and Anuk-su – after all, Ry is quite friendly, and Brett knows that she and Kae treat each other as almost a pair of playful siblings. What better way to cement the bond, by sharing a room with his half-sister? And anyway – as those two are the best of friends – why should she protest?
Brett nods at the thought – confident there is no flaw in his plans!
Kae – FYI – as Clari is going to be your “Cohort” – she will not be formally able to join you until after you explore the southlands – though of course she is able to help you here and now. After book 2 is finished – she will happily be able to go on quests with you. But until then – she cannot come on quests – yet. Unless you are prepared to have me run her as an NPC in combat – and split wealth and loot with her? And though she will be getting a “cut” – she cannot keep the money once she becomes your Cohort. So – on this case, just let me know what you’d like to do. By the way – excellent story – very entertaining – I am eager to do more with this :)
