Khromm gives you a hard look, but says nothing, shaking his head in near stupefaction.
"So you had the chance to kill someone you had a blood oath against - and you... you... you did nothing?" he asks in near awe at your lackadaisical attitude.
"What kind of a creature are you?" he prompts, in a shocked voice, half talking to himself, his gaze now turning into naked contempt, seeing her cheerfully decide to switch conversation from murdering her half brother into a enjoying a "tasty beverage".
Suddenly, his eyes widen in surprise, then he nods, almost to himself.
Turning to Arasmes, he mouths something - you cannot see what it is, however, but he taps his skull twice, and nods at Arasmes after you comments.
"The sorcerer fled our lands, and I had no way to fight him at that time. When I finally left home, confident that I could survive on my own, I tracked him as best i could, but he took refuge within the Hold of Belken. Orc were everywhere, I had no way to find the man. What would you have done? Been slaughtered by Orc? No, I left there, and honed my skills, developed my magic, and when i am able I shall again commence my hunt. I haven't had the chance to slay my enemy in years!" she tells Khromm.
She has no idea that Khromm thinks she's intending to kill Kae. She grew up with the man, though he was still only a boy when she had left the forest, and it doesn't even occur to her that he's her primary target. Perhaps a secondary one, but she's not descided at the moment.
She gives a snort at the Mul, at his comments. <This lower being is not worth your ire, Clari. He knows nothing. What does he even speak of?> her weapon's voice says in her mind.

1. "Mister al-Kazeem, I have heard some details on your particular religion. I am most interested in hearing what your religion espouses from you directly so I have firsthand information rather than hearsay. I am here to be educated."
Question 1 Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
2. "Our town has a colorful diversity, and beliefs are individual and respected. We however dissuade worship of evil gods, in fact forbid it within our borders. I have heard some unsettling reports that you and your followers have been disparaging the gods divinity and power. It has been said that you have been encouraging townsfolk to treat the spirits of nature as the pinnacle of godhood – the essence of magic, and the primary elements as the true focus of all praise. Some would see this as a threat or coercion. I wonder at the motive behind this kind of preaching in a town you have just recently entered. What say you to this, sir?"
Question 2 Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
3. "I am interested in hearing what your plans are for your new religion. Do you intend on residing permanently in Saravale or will you be moving on eventually? How many followers do you seek to draw?"
Question 3 Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
4. "We will soon have definitive and distinct laws for this realm. All within the town and borders must comply to the laws or it will result in punishment or expulsion from the land, depending on the crime committed or law broken. Will your religious group comply with all the laws of the land and if it breaks these laws submit to peacefully leaving this land for good?"
Question 4 Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
5. "Does your religion have written lore I could take away and read? I am a seeker of knowledge and I would be interested in understanding the tenets of your faith."

Question 6 Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
7. "Do you intend on building a temple or shrine? I realise you have not been long in Saravale but you can understand my curiosity in wanting to know exactly what you plan on doing here with your faith. In the meanwhile, where do you hold worship and how often?"

Also you have all come from the south and you can be invaluable to us if you had any information of the Black Koda and their activities. We know very little about them and would seek to stomp their slaving practices out if we can. I will not stand for it so close to Saravale. He says with a fervor that can only come from someone intimately familiar with the horrors of slavery.
She wondered if it were a clever ruse for the foreign dignitary to say the Council had no knowledge of the cultists, especially when she herself saw firsthand what they were capable of and heard more through Khromm's surveillance of the cultist city.
Sense Motive on Arasmes: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
"The cultists have a certain heraldry -- a large black beetle, akin to a scarab. Mister Khromm had covertly entered their city once and shared all the information with me. He had witnessed mostly desert types in their populace but admitted there were other odd races about – many he had never laid eyes on before. Mister Khromm removed himself from the cultist city when he heard rumor that a group of their lower level ruffians and their cultist masters discovered a town to the North East near heavy cliffs and travelled there to investigate the competition. I too came across a contingent on my journey to this place, rounding every Osirion they could lay their hands on with their magicks in some cases. So, I believe you may have spies in your midst, honourable foreign dignitary. Yet before I speak on specifics regarding these cultists, I am eager to hear what you have heard of these slavers. We could perhaps exchange information or work together in eradicating the scourge that is The Black Koda. What say you, Mister ibn'Fayad? Can we form a working relationship and set the foundations for trust?"

While Isani spoke with the black-eyed one, she drew closer to the elf with the "talking" sword. Such an arrogant and aggressive creature. It would amuse me greatly to toy with her, perhaps even persuade her she is indeed going mad, like that dull Mul has been suggesting. He can be quite entertaining though when he is speaking to the elf as though she were witless and touched. Ah, such pleasure.
She giggled at her private thoughts although the only person who could hear her was Isani and currently she was occupied with the Katapeshi.
She walked up to the elf, and although she stood shorter than the other female, she drew in breath and expelled it resolutely toward Clari's hair. Her breath ruffled the elf's hair and another round of giggles peeled silently in the space. Oh this is somewhat boring. How about I ... She concentrates her will and energy and lifts her voice to enter the elf's left ear. She makes a disharmonious sound like a ghastly ghoul to see if she could scare Clari or at least shake her up a little. Serves her right if I did! she thinks.

Eyeing the boy and the creature he holds for a moment Shaezon looks to mister. Mister Thinks at Shaezon "It would appear so." confirming what Mister assumed Shaezon was thinking. A non-magical effect reminiscent of the close bond the two share.
Are we talking about Scrolls or an old Spellbook? The mechanics of the two are a little different. Scrolls disapear when used to scribe into a spell book. Books can be borrowed for scribing without damage to the book itself. For the purpose of this conversation I'm going to assume we're talking about scrolls. If that's wrong it'll only be a very minor retcon, but it'll essentially the same discussion.
After a moment of contemplation Shezon politely interjects himiself into the conversation.
"Gentlemen, if I may. I would like to propose a compromise to the greater benefit of all of us. I intend to open a magical curio shop in the near future and I will need someone of experience and talent to run such an operation. You, good sir (The dad), appear to be such a person. My proposal is three fold. First, I would like to purchase the scroll I need today at it's fair market value of 25 gold. That amout should be more than sufficient to feed your family for several months, though I will be opening my shop in a far shorter timespan than that."
Shaezon continues;
"Second, I would like to hire you and your son to run the magical curio shop. This endeavor will no doubt be extremely profitable for you. Enough so that you and your family will have a confortable lifestyle and full bellies for the rest of your long happy life. Much more-so than if you were able to sell a single scroll at grotesquely inflated prices."
"And lastly, but most importantly I would like to speak to your son if I may, in your presence, of course. This last matter is unrelated to the shop or the scroll and your decision about them will have no bearing on this final matter."
Assuming the man acquesques; Shaezon motions to the boy to come into the room while saying. "Boy, please come here for a moment."
Crouching down to the boy's eye level with Mister on his shoulders Shaezon speaks to the boy in a kind voice. "Who is your friend?" Indicating the hedgehog
After the boy answers; "You're very smart I think." Shaezon say's complimentary."I also think that you know a little magic. If you want to and it's ok with your father I would like to teach you more." WIth a smile and a gesture Shaezon calmly opens his hand palm side up and three spheres of light appear and seem to dance around (dancing lights).
At the same time Mister speaks telepathically so only the boy and Shaezon can hear "There are wonders you've only begun to grasp."
Before the boy has a chance to answer closes his hand and the spheres vanish. He stands and addresses the boys father. "I suspect your boy has the makings of a great mage. If he wishes and you agree I would train him as an apprentice. He will learn advanced magical technique as well as how and when to use his power. Ethics, wisdom, and self control are more important to a Wizard than the power itself."
Pausing for just a moment to let that sink in Shaezon continues, "The decision about your son is too important of one to be rushed and I will not ask that you answer immediately. However, the lesser question of the scroll remains. Will you accept my very reasonable proposed price of 25 gold with the promise of much more if you help me run my shop? I'll need someone to do it and whomever does will inevitably become quite wealthy. That someone may as well be you. What say you, good sir?"

TO SHAEZON
FYI – I’m going to start answering your questions, and anyone who has an easier time posting earlier first – this is to give you a chance to respond again. I am not trying to ignore others, but I want everyone to see the answers, so they can respond in time – and you have a more limited schedule. Everyone will get a response – but you will get yours first – just to keep the pace flowing better. Also – Friday is normally my “Day Off” – I work six days a week, and typically get home around 7:00 PM, so afternoon postings for me are hard – but I normally try to make them work at least on the weekends and on Friday, if I am able.
Shae – it should be noted off the bat – this kid is no “farm boy”. His skin is pale – he is someone who clearly doesn’t get a lot of sun – his eyes seem a bit weak – as if he does a lot of reading, too much, perhaps, and finally – he seems physically weak – as if he has not done much manual or heavy labor. His father is a man who writes letters for couriers – and his father can read and write several languages, as can the boy. The boy, though, it seems – has spent most of his young life assisting his father “copying letters” – writing letters which are dictated – and other similar task. You doubt very much that he is able to perform much manual labor on a farm, or anywhere that manual labor is done.
Regarding the “Book” verses “Scroll” question: As a matter of fact –the father does have both scrolls and spellbooks – but clearly the father cannot Read Magic – and doesn’t know what he is looking for. The fact that the boy knew – and brought a book specifically – not a scroll, which is “used up” – so that you can copy the book, not a scroll – should give you further information on the boy.
Regarding bid for assumed wages: Okay – another point I need to toss up – as this does matter in the future. The man who runs the shop uses his Profession Check to earn money for his family. To simplify such things – the “roll” for him is ”Take 10” plus his modifiers (he has a total of +7 because he is a second level Expert, with 2 ranks in Profession, and a Wisdom of 14). Both his wife and son ”Aid” him in his job – and their ”Take 10” is good enough to earn him an additional +2 for each – for a net total of 21 for his Profession: Scriber – half of which gains him a total of – roughly - 10 gold a week, or about 40 a month. He needs this money to pay rent, and feed a family of 3 – plus supplies and gear for his job. Needless to say – 25 gold pieces will not set him, or any NPC Class in this world for “several months”. Not a big deal – but I just thought I’d let you know for the future. Since all people with a “Name” have a 25 Point Buy – 2 Traits, and at least one PC class – and all “NPC’s” have (if I’m not mistaken) 15 Point buy with an NPC level – and since even the most mundane types use “Profession” to earn money per week – this is important on relative costs for the future.
Quick Note: Relative costs in the book – i.e. “Book Value” – is generally based on a sliding scale in town, for now. A flat fee for food is posted – but that cost can be far higher in times of famine – and in a town where there is not even one magic shop – and a standard family can expect to earn about 8-12 gold pieces a week – 25 gold pieces for Scribing a Scroll, when this destroys the scroll - and none are easily found in the town because there is no magic shop at all - 25 is extremely, extremely low. However – copying a spell from a spell book - As you are going to do that, at this time, thanks to the boy; not actually use a Scroll - is something that you can do at a fairly cheap cost, depending on the vendor and his disposition to you.
But I think we can chalk this assumption up to the fact that your character is going into business and has no real understanding of business practices – i.e. no ranks in Profesion.
Regarding Magical Shop: Going rates of pay for these people is going to – generally – be decided on what I already mentioned above (that is – taking 10 on Profession checks. Just letting you know that now, so that you are aware of that when you decide to set things up and weekly paychecks are forthcoming – further – by all accounts, at least one person in the family has the Craft skill – which could be used to craft certain items in such a shop – but again, it drives up the cost.
Quick note: Yeah – things in this game are expensive. I STRONGLY recommend getting the magical gear you found on the trail appraised; then either sell it or keep it, then put the money in your pocket post haste.
-------------------------
Okay – back to “RPing ;)
The man seems extremely offended by your decision to walk into his shop and then suggest his prices were “Grossly Inflated” – as if this would make him wish to do business with you at all! Also, now he knows very well that he has what you want, and he also knows you want it! Both are things that are not good when it comes to business deals.
The man scowls at you darkly.
”Don’t fool with me, elf,” he says with a contemptuous wave – for he believes that, as he is the only one in town who possesses what you need (he knows this better then you would, sadly) – that he is in a place to bargain with you.
”You know very well that no one can survive more then a month on twenty-five gold pieces – as a person – never mind a family! And you suggest “months” at this? Why would you insult me like that?” he says with a broad wave of his hand.
You sense that though he is insulted – as a business move he using this error to capitalize on pushing for more coin! What is more annoying though is that the boy did not bring you a scroll, which will be destroyed on use – but he actually brought you a spellbook with the spell in it! Twenty-five gold to copy something out of a book he didn’t even know he had – now that is the real insult! However – before you can become angry yourself, Oleg tries to smooth things over quickly. You sense that the heavyset innkeeper realizes you are not used to how business is done in this town, nor how finances work – an understandable mistake. After quick speech, Oleg seems to calm the man down.
The man rubs his hand over his chin for a moment, as if considering the possibility of running a shop for you. You believe that such an enterprise – if done right – would earn you more then what you believe to be the “going rate” of things – in this town, magic seems rare – higher prices would be realistic – and you’d be the only business like that in town, for now…
”Humph – well… maybe… tell me – if I did come to work for you – running your shop and so on; booking, sales and contracts – the usual issues – what sort of rates of pay are you offering?” he asks.
You sense this is your chance to “Seal the Deal” with getting the spell – if you play your cards right, you would be able to – not only come to a far cheaper rate for the spell – but “subtract” that cost from his opening salary. Miser chortles at the thought…
While the man waits for this, the boy hears your question and moves forward to you, with a polite nod.
”Yes, sir,” the boy says, moving forward and speaking with a soft voice. He lifts up the tiny animal in his palm to show you better, watching Mister as he does it.
”This is “Parum Ericius”, sir – if it pleases you,” he adds – ”though I mostly call him Parum, sir.”
Seeing your spell, his eyes widen visibly, even as the tiny animal rolls himself up into a small, spiky ball. The boy smiles shyly, and then – and he mutters something himself - you are startled to see then he raises his hands and you see him point – a tiny, crude construct of Mister appears in his other hand, and you hear this “Parum” squeak at its appearance.
He hands it gently to you to hold – and says quietly – ”I would like to learn more, if it pleases you, sir.”
The father seems interest in this back-and-forth, and considers you for a moment.
”Taking my boy as apprentice? Hmm… that would mean I would be short-handed in my shop, and I’d have to hire more help!” he adds, even as the boy turns a stricken look to his father, which he quickly muffles at his father’s glance.
You sense that you have the chance to negotiate a really good deal with this man – and that he is pushing you for a hard bargain because he now believes he has you in a corner if you want the use of his scroll. Naturally – you can sweeten the deal – but it will take some fine tuning via Diplomacy – but this can be adjusted easily by creating better rates of pay. Remember – going rates in the town, especially for people that you hire for certain duties – are generally determined by their Profession roll – unless they are contracted to you – in which case, there are specific ways of dealing with them. Point is – what is your move?

TO CLARI – AND ALL
So you that you know - Eirene is not an extra player. Isani can elaborate more it sooner – if she chooses, but Eirene is something more akin to a supernatural presence. It is possible that this is why she was aware of your sword’s communication – though, perhaps not.
In either case – she is not a third player – or a cohort – but an attached item with communication to her “mistress” – not unlike your sword.

Thanks for the clarification. That does change the conversation a little. Also, I completely forgot about the profession check thing. Would it be ok if I moved around a few skill points on my sheet from the last level up?
Regarding the price:
"It was not my intent to insult and I do apologize if I have made an error. I am still new here and am not entirely sure how much things cost. I am more familiar with the prices of such things where I am from and magic is more plentiful. " Shaezon humbly bows to the man.
"Regarding the shop I will provide the building, materials, and necessary magical expertise. I would ask that you run the day to day tasks required of such a place. For that I think perhaps ten gold a week as a base salary with further bonuses based on the shops profitability would be appropriate. I can assure you that I am very generous. Does that sound fair?"
"Regarding your son, his apprenticeship, and helping in the shop I think you may underestimate the value of the training I will provide to assist you in the shop. He is frail of body, but I suspect his mind is quite strong. Once he learns just a small portion of what I can teach him with a word and gesture He'll be able to do the work of 100 strong men laboring for days. Besides, I have no intention of taking him away from his job or his family. He can still work in your shop and accomplish days worth of tasks in seconds. And if for some reason I need him during business hours I will provide you with an appropriate replacement at no cost to you. I can demonstrate what I'm talking about if you wish."
The scroll is actually a book: Shaezon would have been able to plainly see the difference, but I (the player) did not and I assumed incorrectly.
"I think I have a compromise that you will like. I would like to borrow your book for the span of one week. For this I will pay you fifty gold now and fifty gold when I return it. Also, as collateral I will leave this with you, to be returned at the end of the week when I give you your final payment." SHaezon plucks his broach off his shirt. "This broach is very valuable, personally sentimental, and magical." Shaezon holds the broach out for the father to take. The broach is two small silver hands holding each other and a small pin for connecting it to clothing. "Think of this broach as an extra pair of hands. Touch it and tell it to perform a task that requires time, but minimal strength, such as cleaning or fetching small items (Unseen servant)." SHaezon waits for the man to take it and command it to do something. Once he does Shae continues, "This trick will be childs play for your son in short order with my training. Does this sound like an acceptable compromise where everyone benefits and you don't actually lose anything?"
My diplomacy roll sucks, so hopefully my little speech gives me some sort of bonus.

Question 2 Diplomacy: 1d20+10
3. "I am interested in hearing what your plans are for your new religion. Do you intend on residing permanently in Saravale or will you be moving on eventually? How many followers do you seek to draw?"
Question 3 Diplomacy: 1d20+10
Question 4 Diplomacy: 1d20+10
5. "Does your religion have written lore I could take away and read? I am a seeker of knowledge and I would be interested in understanding the tenets of your faith."...
TO ARIARH
1. Religious Views: rolled 21
Hadad smiles rather benignly at your request.
”Of course, Councilwoman – I would be pleased to elaborate on my beliefs – what I teach, and what I espouse… he says, sipping another beverage.
”To put it simply – we espouse the truth of the universe. Namely – before all things there was, as rustics say – “The Elements” – from this basic foundation all things were made, as we believe it – even the gods are made from the Elements. We teach harmony, peace, charitable works, and generous action to fellow man – but, above all – respect to things, and an understanding of each thing in its proper place.”
He takes another sip.
”Surely we can agree that what some of your folk call "gods" are beings that merely ascended into their power by the completion of meager “tests”. And - having completed such tests - this somehow makes them worthy of more then respect, but actual worship? I say, no. No more then any other great being that has done great works. I say that to lift an extremely powerful being who does not “die” – though such a being may be defeated in some sort of "combat" – to worship this thing, rather then simply honoring it for great deeds done and performed – No, I do not advocate such things, nor do the members of our following. The gods are – to us – like prophets or teachers who have come to reveal to us the secrets of a great and powerful mystery. Namely - the very essence of all creation, and our place in it. Such a deed is honorable – yet we do not worship “prophets” – though, of course, we do honor them,” he says with a somewhat fatherly nod.
2. Motives of Preaching: roll 12
”Our motives?” he queries with a mild chuckle.
”Councilwoman – we are merely pilgrims in a foreign land trying to make this land our new home. What better way to bring a piece of home to a new land then to introduce our own native customs? Surely you do not protest in our gear and clothing, nor our manner of speech – and though our religious beliefs may rankle some in your town – there is no real different motive then that – we merely wish to bring a piece of home into this new land,” he adds with a somewhat condescending smile.
3. Plans for new religion: rolled 19
”Plans?” he asks, as if the idea of long reaching “plans” has just occurred to him.
”Councilwoman – I, and my people – have no specific, or immediate plans – other then to find a new home – and, toward that end, make the place we live more “home-like”. As such – we feel this is something that is best done by introducing more elements of home – music, food, sports, poetry, dancing, and – of course – religion.”
”As for a number of followers – why – you mistake me! I am not seeking a specific “number” of anything – rather, I am merely spreading my beliefs – and those who listen are free to offer their opinions on the matter; be it turn away and follow their own beliefs, or, if they prefer – stay and listen to our teachings. It’s really quite that simple,” he says, with a somewhat bored sigh.
4. Compliance with law: rolled 19
He frowns at your question, now, looking slightly agitated.
”I must say Councilwoman – that is really, in my opinion – quite an unfair question. You seem to suggest by inference that I may have some sort of control over the free will of others in this town – which would clearly make an owner of men! That should make me a slaver, and I know that, in the least - in this town - to be a slave owner is illegal."
"Now - to forestall this line of questioning further - no man who does any work for me is bound to any choice but his own will. Further, as I understand it – such a person is bound to be responsible for their own actions. Simply put, I can only be answerable for my own actions, not those of my men – er, anyone who follows our beliefs.”
”In short – if anyone breaks the law – that affair is between themselves and your government. Rest assured, however – I shall not break the law – I know a little something about “legal precedence” myself,” he adds with a sudden sardonic grin.
”Even so!” he continues boldly – ”If there is someone in your jurisdiction who breaks the law – then punish them as you see fit. That is between the transgressor and the legal apparatus – in this case – you. But surely you are not implying that I am responsible for the actions of person who listens to me teach?” he adds the last with a cool gleam in his eyes.
5. Religion have written lore: roll 25
”Written lore? Certainly not – we do not reduce our faith to pen and paper. Rather, if those who are truly called by higher beings are so moved – they are divinely inspired to recall the truth – and need no “text” to refresh their memory. Our codes are taught by way of mouth – as are all our teachings, no – we do not place those values on paper,” he adds with a sad shake of his head.
This is a shame, too – for without a written codex of faith – how can you, or anyone, really be sure what his faith is about – or taught to be about… other then his say so?
6. Freedom of Religion – verse Tithing: rolled 30
He shakes his head with a weary sigh.
”Tithing? How vulgar! No – no one who turns to our faith is required to pay any money to those who would dedicate their life to teaching and help,” he adds, even as the heavy man in the black robes adjusts his sword more comfortably on his hip, his eyes never leaving you or Dior.
”No – we do not enforce such petty demands for cheap coin,” Hadad continues – ”Though – of course – we naturally accept the generous and charitable donations from any who would wish to see us grow fruitful and multiply – but, we do not charge men for the ability to gain knowledge – such a thing as knowledge is a gift that is as ancient as Time itself, and to sully it with a charge of coin would be disrespectful the very ideas of what we hold true,” he adds with a shrug and wry smile.
7. Temple/worship services: roll 30
”Again – you mistake me Councilwoman,” he adds with a frustrated look.
”We do not have temples – no, there is no place we congregate – we merely move from place to place and teach – sometimes on a street corner – other times we come to a home and teach to the family, if they request our knowledge – in the evening perhaps, or whenever they like. We have no temples – we need no temples – we move from place to place – we teach where any who would listen can hear us – I, and others like me - move to teach privately in their homes away from the abuses of others – so we can speak to them in private without harassment – we keep no written record, for if the wise cannot recall Wisdom – then I say that they are not truly wise! And we do not meet on a “regular” basis – we meet and gather when – and where – it is best suited for us, to the purpose of our calling – and to help us in our goal.”
He seems a bit agitated at this point, and then, catching your eye – continues.
”Yes – and our goal, as I stated – is to simply spread what we believe to be the truth! And nothing else,” he adds, rubbing his temples with his fingers, the light of the lamps reflecting brightly on the gleaming golden rings on his fingers with multiple gems upon them.
As he leans back, he looks around the room with an impatient face, as if he is frustrated by these questions, even as his “bodyguard” is standing behind him. The eyes of this bodyguard flick from you to all of those who you brought with you, then back to you again.
”Now,” he says, with a broad sweep of his hand ”Was there anything else you would have of me? I had hope this visit would be pleasant, but I fear it to be somewhat taxing. Still – I shall answer whatever other questions you may have at this time,” he adds with a weary tone.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 (grr.)
Ariarh smiles, keeping eye contact, first with the menacing guard and then Hadad. Although the leader appears questionable there is nothing she can pick up in his words that she could conclude without a doubt as being evil or having malicious intent. She doesn't like the man and continues, hoping to find clarification in the end.
"I would think a man such as yourself, with a holy purpose and many responsibilities to his flock would not be taxed so readily, Mister al-Kazeem. I am grateful for your patience with me."
"You must be aware that if you enter any new town and not introduce yourself to the ruling Council, then it can assured that such an event would take place. We have a purpose to serve and protect our people, the community, and as you can see I am simply here to hear the words from your own lips and not via idle gossip. I am sure you can appreciate the courtesy, especially so from a Council member. And, I am also sure we will speak on many more occasions if you and your people choose to remain in Saravale, and not just between you and I. Mayhap my fellow Councilmen will find an interest in your philosophy, as well."
Pausing, she taps her fingers together and then looks back up at the leader,
"I am curious. You have implied that you have entered our gates and set up in our town for purely peaceful and simple reasons -- to simply spread your word and make this land feel like your homeland. I can appreciate that. However," she looks up at the armed guard staring her down and her escorts, "I am wondering at the need for such armed guards. Do you find much resentment and trouble in the towns you move between that you feel it prudent to resort to such ... shows of force?" She smiles again, it is as polite as it can be, yet there is no reflection of it in her crystalline eyes.

" Shaezon humbly bows to the man."Regarding the shop I will provide the building, materials, and necessary magical expertise.
Also, as collateral I will leave this with you, to be...
To Shaezon
Yeah – I wanted to clear up things with the spellbook verses the scroll – I knew you didn’t know – but I also knew it was an important detail for multiple reasons. Not only does the boy know the difference, but his father clearly has no idea about the value of such things. But yes – it was a book. No worries. Have a quick question for you on Skype to ask – I’ll get my answer – it will effect things in this post.
”Huh! That trick is child play for my son – he can do that already,” the man says, but you notice beads of sweat on his brow – clearly his avarice is getting the better of him.
”Well – that be true sir, that be true,” Oleg says somewhat cheerfully.
”But consider this – if I may be so bold – property in the town ain’t too cheap, eh? Now – you can move out to tent town, if you’d like – or maybe save and sweat it out paying rent every month – but this lad’s got a fair offer – rent free on a shop – all ye do is do what you do here – plus some sort of commission… say... five percent? Oleg says, offering to Aid your negotiations.
Diplomacy Aid Check -
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
”Er… five percent – not fifteen?” the man says hopefully, planning on – no doubt – bargaining you down to ten – but Oleg gives you the look, and then gives the guy the run-down.
”Oh come off it! You’re just the front-man – all you do is sell things – my man here will be doing all the work – making the stuff and selling it. And, in a town like this – magic being rare and all – hell, you wanted to charge five hundred gold to copy something? Pshaw! But, if we bit and took your deal – then you’d have made a good twenty-five gold pieces in one afternoon – never mind every other fool that comes in here – and all you need to do is keep the books straight, and, uh… I dunno – actually, five percent may be too high, eh Mister Shaezon?”
”No, no – five percent is just fine,” the man says quickly; the promise of a free rent, a place to do his own business while running yours – modest pay and commission? It didn’t get any sweeter then that!
”Uh, yeah – well… when I can start working?” the man says hungrily.
”That’s up to the boss,” Oleg says, pointing to Shaezon.
”But – he’s looking for good students, as it were – seems as though your boy may be handy with magic, as it were – well – we’re willing to teach him – and it won’t cost you anything – hell – it may even save you some coin, as you won’t have to feed him when he’s with us – but, uh – what was the story about that book for a week? Fifty gold now, and the other later?” Oleg presses, jingling a pouch suggestively.
”What, huh – oh, of course!” the man says hastily.
”It’s a done deal – and, hey – why don’t you spend the day getting to know the lad, as it were – you know – sort of be friends with him, eh? He’s a good boy – and, uh, yeah – you can have him for the day – that broach will do nicely – for now,” the man adds, plucking your broach eagerly, and looking at you for the fifty gold pieces.
In addition to giving him the broach – I will actually need the 50 GP – by the way – you do actually have this broach right – this wasn’t just social RP stuff, was it?
In either case, he takes the broach, waits for the gold, and jerks his thumb at the boy.
”Oye! Get your things, and follow this lad here – he’s going to be our new boss – do what he says, be respectful – and listen well. If he dismisses you from his service – you’ll catch it hot,” the man says, holding up a bunched fist at the boy, who nods quickly to his father.
The boy hurries out to get some things from the back – and soon returns with a small satchel over his shoulder. He looks at you, awaiting your move. You see in a pocket on the front of his tunic the little head of Parum Ericius peaking out at you with an excited look.
”Er, um – sir, that is – boss – the coin?” the man says, as his son waits for you next order.

Arasmes calls for beer to be brought for Khromm before looking over the goings on of Khromm with Clari with amusement. He waits for Clari and then Isani to finish before responding. Well, my story is a long one to detail but I will not bore you with such details now. Suffice it to say I was a slave in Katapesh to a powerful dealer of pesh and was put to uses I did not wish. I was born a slave and had known no other life but eventually I had had enough and escaped north through Osirion. Once there I attained passage on a boat to Cheliax. From their I wandered and traveled for several years before making my way to Ustalav and meeting Professor Lorrimor, a renowned scholar and explorer. From him I learned of a new nation being founded to the east. One built upon tolerance and the belief that all have the chance to prove themselves worthy regardless of birth or heritage. Obviously considering my background, this appealed to me greatly and so I came. He smiles that bright and dazzling smile again before continuing. Now to answer your question Isani. I believe that a working relationship would be an excellent idea. As far as spies go, I am absolutely certain that there are spies within the town and surrounding environs. It is only logical that there would be considering the Black Koda's operations. Unfortunately you have told me more in that one speech than I have currently about them. We know little about them but our spymaster is currently attempting to work on that problem. We had heard of their heraldry but little else beyond that they are slavers.
Turning to look at Khromm he says Correct me if I am wrong but you are a half-dwarf yes? A mul as they are called in Osirion? I have not had the pleasure of meeting on of your kind but only know of your reputation as fierce and implacable warriors. Mistress Isani says that you were within this city that the cultists have started, if true would you tell me about it and if so, what would you like for said information? I know you mentioned steel and coin. We have need of warriors and skilled soldiers and I'm sure we can find a place for you here should you wish it. If it is coin you wish, there are several ways we can go with this. I can offer a price for your information but I have no idea of how extensive and useful your information is and so therefore my price would be a blind one. We can also go another way, where you give me the information and I pay you based upon the extent and usefulness of the information afterwards. A third way is that you become an employee of the city who draws a salary of sorts for the information at first but then afterwards are drawing salary for services commensurate with your abilities. It is up to you. Looking at the others he says That goes for you Clari, Isani, and Lazurien as well. I do not think you mean harm to the city or it's people and as such you have my welcome to Saravale. Arasmes smiles and awaits your responses.

When the father says that the kid can already do that Shaezon perks up and with a broad genuine smile says "Really! And with no training. That's excellent."
Shaezon pulls out and counts a small bag of gold Handing over the contents to the father.
"I'll need him to help me decipher parts of the book and we need to discuss his abilities, but he'll be back soon enough. I'll be setting up the shop very soon."
"Get the book, please." Shaezon asks the boy.
WIth that the group leaves.

To Ariarh
Hadad sees your look, and smiles – as if he was actually waiting for this question.
”Sadly madam – we do find many difficulties when we travel,” he says with a deep, mournful sigh.
”My fellow pilgrims, and I, on our many journeys we have discovered that there is great concern from threats of physical force – even intimidation by others,” he says with a sad shake of his head.
”Simply because we wish to practice our own religious beliefs – which are often alien from those adhered to by the citizens of a community – my fellows and I are often ostracized and abused – scorn, insults – to say the least – yet I have also seen vandalism, theft, and even, in some horrible cases – assaults and murder,” he adds gravely.
”We came here for a fresh start – to be in a place where – supposedly – there is no patience for intolerance – where tolerance is, instead – the preferred means of communication. There are many – from holy knights, to priests, and other such zealots – who would kill us all for our supposed “Blasphemy” – and even though we may suggest that they themselves are the true Infidel – my own people would never resort to such barbaric methods of forcing faith on another.”
”Still,” he adds with another sigh ”I find that an outward show of force is best – for example – my man here,” he adds, gesturing to the hulking figure behind him ”is nothing but a gentle giant – yet, his very nature, his presence – indeed – his personality is crafted to give anyone the belief that he is dangerous – and though he can be, naturally he abhors violence – but, when a ruffian sees him at my side – his very presence dissuades any possibility of violence. Of course – he will help me, if he can, should someone actually attempt to injure me – but, in the end – anyone would do no less for a friend and mentor, no?” he asks you with a cocked eye.
He sips another taste of his beverage.
”In truth – I am glad you broached the subject,” he adds, and you have no doubt he is telling you the truth.
”As our religious beliefs are somewhat different then others – and we have often suffered abuse from others – well… naturally… I am afraid for my brethren – that, for example – should a crime occur near us, or about us – that we may wrongfully accused, or even convicted of such an act; when we may have no connection to it!”
”I have seen many horrible things – people committing crimes and falsifying evidence, and lying under oath to sway the legal system – simply because they do not happen to like us and wish us to suffer for our religious beliefs. I hoped that would not be an issue in this town – of all places – even so: should I, or one of my people – suddenly find themselves wrongfully accused by the overzealous – I hope and trust I can count on your support to bring justice to the truly guilty parties,” he adds, giving you a very flattering smile.
”What say you Councilwoman – shall we be friends? I think that would be a good thing, for us to be friendly with each other – and, if I may be so bold – I think that you would be a good student, if you were prepared to listen. But come – I wish friendship with you, and hope that you would be my friend to – and live up to the promises of you wonderful community as my friend – and do what you can to protect me, and my fellow pilgrims. Won’t you please consider that – helping to protect us?” he adds with a very sly smile, as he stares at your lovely sapphire eyes.
Oh – what’s this? Hmmm, I don’t know… but wait – yes – Ariarh – roll a Willpower save for me!

Khromm drains the mug with a thirsty gulp – seemingly impervious to the effects of the brew. He glances at it with a sour look – clearly northern beer is not the same as southern beer.
”You want to know what I can offer – well, how’s this for starters – I’ve been there – I know where this place is, can put it on a map for you, if you want – I can tell you the relative number of folk inside, freedmen and slaves – something about the number of their troops – magic users, and plans for the working of the city, not to mention giving you basic overlay of the defenses. How much is that worth to you?” he adds.
”As for coin itself? I’m a damn good killer – damn good. And I got no qualms with doing it – you need a man knifed, cold blooded or hot – I can do it for you – or, if you want, I can take a man in for you – I’ve hunted the dunes for coin on commission and brought in runaways, vagrants, mercenaries, rebels and criminals – I never break a contract one I start it – and I stick to it to the end – if you hire me – I’ll come through, or die trying – provided you come through, too.”
”Now – as for commission – what kind of rates are you offering – what kind of coin? You let me know that – and maybe we can go from there – but for now, I’d like to see what you got on the table for my offer about the place,” he adds, watching coolly, as if appraising your next move, clearly eager to finally deal with someone who can "Get down to business", as it were.

"Don't mention, friend," Oleg says with a glance at you.
"However - when you get all your stuff figured out - I'd not mind my cut of it, eh?" Oleg says suggestively.
"I mean - you got a square deal out of that guy there - how about, when you get things appraised and coin settled - you give me a piece of that action - say, five percent of the total find?"
Though Oleg is "asking" - this is actually his "finders fee" for aiding you, which he mentioned earlier. After all Gold is said and done - he will be getting 1/20th of the gold in value for himself - you can either pay him straight - or encourage the group to split the cost with him - which is very reasonable, considering without this information they may not be able to have anything solved at all. In any case - chalk this cost up to a "Finders Fee" - but if you can get the others to split the cost with Oleg - that may help him too.

He does - and more - I will need to stat him out formally and send you the sheet. Look for it in a few days - if you look it over - and like him as an apprentice - he's yours to keep, train, and maintain. Of course - this is up to you... Depending on how things go - you could even bump him up into a Cohort - though whatever Class/Classes he currently has must be kept - the rest are up to you. In addition, we can use you as an armsman that reports directly to the council for use in various tasks that we set you. For that position we can come up with a salary with the council. Is that agreeable to you?
Isani Isu
She listens intently to the foreign dignitary and does not interrupt him. She looks over at Khromm and internally shakes her head at the haggling, at the same time appreciating the mechanical merits of such a system of trade. The Mul certainly seemed to be a dogmatic negotiator. Gauging Arasmes, she was confident he would finely debate the issue with Khromm.
"Mister ibn'Fayad, I had heard that your town was in need of a cleric. There are a number of reasons why I made the journey to Saravale but most specifically I am searching for a community where I can offer my talents and services as a priestess and healer. Word has spread as far as Osirion in regard to your new kingdom, sir. Do you believe the Council would accept my application for the position?"
Arasmes ibn'Fayad
Arasmes smiles again and says I am unsure as to whether they would offer you a position on the council being so new to the town but I can guarantee that the town is definitely in need of spiritual guidance as much as possible. You are a priestess of Sarenrae correct? We can find many and varied uses for a person of your talents. As a matter of fact, perhaps you would care to do a small task for me? I would compensate you accordingly of course. Arasmes looks at Isani and waits to see if she would be interested.
Isani Isu
"Oh no, Mister ibn'Fayad, I did not mean to suggest that I am seeking a seat on the Council. I merely wish to settle some place and be a productive member of the community."
Isani looks up into the dark eyes of the Tiefling male. "What is this task you wish me to perform? I would hear the details first before I can give you my answer."
Arasmes ibn'Fayad
Arasmes nods to your words, seeing the sense in them. What I would like is to see if it would be possible to get the various religious factions in the city to come together at regular intervals to talk about issues that are occurring with people of faith. Some sort of Interfaith Council, I suppose we could call it. Their responsibility would be to come together in a spirit of cooperation and tolerance to discuss issues. Also they could be responsible for making sure that the laws related to the worship of evil deities is observed and if such things are spotted, reported to the council for investigation and action. Obviously the details can be discussed further but it seems like something that would be very worthwhile to have and would foster a spirit of community and fellowship between the various faiths. What do you think?
Isani Isu
"There is gracious merit to your idea, Mister ibn'Fayad. With such a place as your Saravale, and its diversity in beliefs and customs, it would make practical sense to have each of the religious leaders come together and share experiences, issues and so forth in a harmonious manner. I would consider involving myself in such a task. I would hear more once you and the Council have spoken and made a formal decision. A thousand thanks." Isani bows elegantly before the foreign dignitary and grants him with one of her warmer smiles.
Khromm

Khromm looks at the empty beer glass with a frown.
"Hmm... make it a guarantee of a thousand up front - and the other thousand after you see what I got, providing you think it's worth it. As to that? Well, I'll trust to your word on if you think it's worth the full second thousand - but know that I don't break contracts! I expect the same treatment from you on that matter. So - I'll give you all you need to know, or all I do know - and I won't hold nothing back. But I want the two thousand if it's worth it too you; but at the very least the first thousand for sure," he says with a stern tone, but mild eyes.
You recall vaguely hearing rumors that the blending of the single-minded attitude of dwarves with the independent wanderlust of humans has produced a strange offshoot in these "half-dwarf" types.
A half-dwarf, or "Mul" - is often considered somewhat psychologically unstable when it comes to what is commonly called its "Purpose". When such a creature discovers a purpose - it becomes single-minded to a fault - and absolutely will not deviate from completing the task, to the point of obsession.
You would wager that, despite Khromm's attachment to coin and whoring - his "purpose" - his drive - this seems to be making sure he never deviates from a contract - or deals with any who does.
You are quite confident - now - that with regards to fulfilling his side of the arrangement - once the deal is struck - he will rather die then break the deal. You know, if you agree to his arrangement - that he will be as fair as you can expect him to be. Further - you also know he will expect the same from you!
Of course, you also know that - if he feels he is not getting fair or equal treatment from you in kind - then he will push to the death for it!

"I don't actually like the title 'master' by itself. It sounds a bit too much like slavery. Just include either of my names you want. Also, this is my familiar, Mister. He's like your hedgehog, but has some extra tricks.
im particularly interested in the contents of the two spell books. Both the rented one and Galen's, though I suspect their is a lot of overlap. In the mean time I need to scribe Identify tonight and check in those items with a +23 to the check via my skill and the spell.

You'll get full details on the items tomorrow - you will need to make Spellcraft rolls of 40 each - to identify - hard, but not impossible. Also - you already know that Galen's book is relatively new - the other book is far more... Older? Yes - very old...
More on this can be discovered as I post it tomorrow, though, including his sheet - which I will post up soon. This provides you take him as your formal apprentice - or just a student.

"Very good - Master Silverfall," Galen says politely. You notice he is currently walking about three paces behind you - you notice this seems to be deliberate - as you slow down, he slows down - and as you speed up - he speeds up - but always slightly behind you, letting you move forward -as the master should...
Shaezon Silverfall
spellcraft rolls of 40 to identify the items? Crap. Even with magic aid I have to roll 17 or better! That's a caster level of 25. If they're artifacts I can't identify via spellcraft regardless. Lore (knowledge) rolls would be more appropriate in that case.

Stopping for a moment, "Galen, I appreciate the gesture, but I'll need to talk to you when we walk together. It's an important part of the learning process. You can step up next to me where I can see you in the corner of my eye. "

They are quasi-artifacts - in this case you can use identify via spellcraft - but, as I suggested - it would be very hard. You'd need to not only roll well, have the spell "identify" cast - but you would probably need some people to "Aid" you - if only you knew people that could do that! In this case - you can get help for that roll. They are not your usual magical items - there seems to be some very important issues with them, never mind the "caster level" of whoever created this stuff.

"Very well, Master Silverfall," he says, even as you notice Param squinch into a tiny ball and hide in his pocket when you admonish him.
He moves forward somewhat - but seems very uncomfortable around you. You sense that he does not know how to act in this situation - never mind the fact that he seems to be very socially awkward around you personally - you believe that, given his upbringing - he may not have had the easiest time with how to get along with more "relaxed" adults.
Well - it seems you have many opportunities to teach him, and in more ways then simple magic.
Ka'etil Malas'rae
Well, now... who to track down... Well, Shae's busy with his new pet, Ry's in the meeting with the Koda, Brett's doing his thing, Raz is having his interviews... Well off to Grish's then i guess...
Ka'etil's smile fades slightly as Colleen leaves, Well now, I believe that it is high time I clean up the fine mess that I have engineered. He them moves to the tent city, taking a minute to mix himself an extract of Expeditious Retreat He tracks down and asks to see him.
When Ka'etil does meet with Grishnak, and they have exchanged pleasantries (I'd like to RP that out, but need to know the circumstances of finding Grishnak and what he says when Kae meets with him. But I also want to post the tough questions now to keep things moving) Ka'etil will speak of business.
"Well, it seems like things have gotten complicated, Grishnak. When you went and tried to host an unlicensed fight, a fight to the death for that matter, and then went talking about having 'protection', well, it's making things difficult for me. Anyone thinking you have the council 'in your pocket' hurts our credibility, my credibility, makes it harder to keep things running smoothly. " Kae tells the man. He's unhappy about things, but not angry, there's more of a listlessness vibe how he's speaking.
He shakes his head a little as he says, "Now I've got to go to the rest of the council, try to convince them that working with you is a good idea, but all I've got for them is a little information on the Koda, which the new southerners that just showed up may be bringing too, something about a town to the south with a gate, and a rival city, none of which we have found yet. There's nothing concrete yet, and now with this incident, I've got to convince them to 'play ball' as it were based on good faith, which is not going to be easy..."
Ariarh Kane
Looking back at Hadad al-Kazeem, she answers with distinct clarity, "I am a Councilor to the people, a custodian to all manner of creature, Mister al-Kazeem. If I can aid the community I shall endeavour to, earnestly, vigilantly. I do not show particular favour and I do not form special friendships which may be deemed unfair and unjust to the whole. If you or your brethren require assistance, or clarification of our laws, you may call upon me or any of my councilmen during your stay in our town."
"I have one last question if you can stretch your patience just a moment more. Among you and your brethen are there any magic users? I'm always a curious one when it comes to spellcasters." Her look is candid, her smile fixed and neither giving away her innermost thoughts.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Then after Hadad answers,
"In the wake of the Council's return, I can ensure you that we will be present in the community and we may come across you during our regular excursions through the village and districts. I thank you once more for your kind hospitality. I have taken up enough of your time this afternoon."
With that, she finishes her water, stands, rights her attire and announces to her escorts that she is ready to leave. She nods her head toward Hadad in polite farewell and turns and leaves through the tent opening, glad to be gone from its interior and the leader who resides within.
Ariarh Kane
Some distance away from the cultist camp, she discreetly pulls aside Henry Ironhorse and Glaidus. Dior moves to stand by her side. She scratches his head lovingly.
"Gentlemen, as we walk back to the main part of town, I wish to hear your thoughts on what you have heard and seen inside Hadad al-Kazeem's tent and camp. How does he strike you? Does he put you at ease or make you uneasy and wishing for the Council to further investigate this new religion. I would hear your thoughts, as your observations and opinions will aid in the report I must compile. But we must be mindful in the manner in which we speak for I fear there are spies about and I would not like us to be overheard."
"And before we head back to the Ironhorse's home, I would like to stop off at DeVille's establishment. He has an employee there I wish to speak with. If that is alright with you both?"

"Don't mention, friend," Oleg says with a glance at you."However - when you get all your stuff figured out - I'd not mind my cut of it, eh?" Oleg says suggestively.
Shaezon chuckles warmly, "That sounds more than reasonable, friend. As a matter of fact if you can help to continually grease the wheels of my business I'm more than happy to pay a reasonable fee for such a service."
In other words Shaezon is happy to pay Oleg if he can help keep his business running in whatever savvy way Oleg can. Help with government, travelers, common folk, stuff like that.

Shaezon puts a gentle hand on the boy's shoulder and looks him in the eye. "You're studies will require a lot of you, therefore I will require a lot of you. You may not always understand why certain things are, but in time you will come to understand. You are my apprentice now, its important that you learn to speak freely with me and now cower when I speak freely with you. I ask you to walk closer because I know that you're not sure how to act, not because you've done something wrong. You'll need to act respectfully, of course, but there is no reason to fear me. I realize this is new for you and frankly it's new for me too. I've never taken an apprentice before."
"Consider this your first lesson. You are Magi now. You are a being of power and influence in the universe. There will be many creatures that you can lord power over at your whim if you choose, but be warned there are always powers larger than you that could do the same to you if you let them or anger them. Don't invoke the wrath of those larger than you. A good way to avoid the wrath of the powerful is to not lord over lesser creatures merely because you can. That kind of action will anger greater powers. Treat everything great and small with respect and dignity if for no other reason than the fact that size doesn't denote strength in the realm of the Magi."
"In my case respect and dignity will be sufficient and you need not fear me also. I am you're teacher, not your lord. Do you understand?"

** spoiler omitted **...
Arasmes returns Isani's smile with one of his own and bows in return. I look forward to working with you more in the future, Isani. I think this Interfaith Council will make a great deal of difference in the success or failure of our fledgling country.
Turning, Arasmes looks hard at the Mul and then says That sounds like a deal. I have to get the council to approve it first which shouldn't take long as they are the ones with the access to the treasury but I am sure they will agree.
He looks over Clari and Lazurien and says What about you two? Do you have any plans for what you will do now that you are here?
After their responses Arasmes stands and says Well that is all I had for you. In the meantime, relax and eat and drink your fill and I will be back shortly after speaking to the council.
Arasmes will then leave with a bow and try and find Brett, Ry, or Kae. Whoever is closest and available.
Lazurien
Lazurien who has remained quiet says I have clutch-mates who I think have been taken to this slaver city. I hope to be able to free them. I will stay until such time as I can do so. I have also come to see whether it is possible for my people and humans to live together harmoniously as has not been done in the history of the Strix. This land seems like a prime opportunity to move beyond the prejudices of the past. With that she subsides back into silence and watches to see if Clari has anything to say.
Clari Miali'ahel
"Well I'll stick around here for a spell, speak wiht Malas'rae, see what this place is all about, i guess. There seems to be much injustice here in this land that i can lend my blade to correct, sharpen my skills." She looks to the Strix, "And who better to practice on that slavers, eh?" she says, with an almost greeful sort of malicious sparkle in her eye, but you sense that it is meant to be a warm and friendly sort of gesture, however disconcerting it actually looks.

So tonight Shaezon needs to scribe Identify to his spell book (takes an hour and cost 10G)
He'll then call the spell from his book using his bonded item power and browse the items to determine what he can with a +25 to the check.
Repeat the next morning as needed.
