This is for the King Maker Campaign Chronicle. I am not currently in the process of recruiting, though I may advertise for players later on the Gamer Connection Board.
In the meantime, this is a game dedicated to "story" rather then simple hack and slash. Role-playing, not "roll" playing. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it!
peace

Background
Where was your character born?
Born in the year 4684 AR on the 8th day of the month of Neth in a small but important mining town called Irondale in the north of Brevoy. The town is well known for the excellent quality steel it provides through its main foundry. It is nestled in a small vale in the Icerim Mountains 150 miles north of Skywatch.
Who raised him?
I was born a bastard son of Joshua Lebeda Lord of Irondale, minor member of House Lebeda, and lived with his family in the Black Keep in Irondale. My father never speaks of my mother, saying that it was a mistake and dishonored the family. As a result I have the name Winter instead of Lebeda, Winter being the customary surname given to all who are born bastards in the area. I was sent to live with my extended family in House Lebeda on the shores of Lake Reykal when I was 15, to learn their trade in exotic pets and animals. House Lebeda also has extensive holdings in the Golushkin Mountains to the north where they mine other ores as well. It is also at this point where I began to tap into my magical blood heritage.
What was happening in the region when your character was growing up?
Snow, snow and after that more f@~@ing snow, and just for a change of pace we had some ice too. It is a beautiful land of white mountains and dark green forests. There were the usual bandit and giant attacks against travelers, never against the town itself, always on the outskirts. A farm here, a village there, things like that. Also the same night House Rogarvia vanished, Skywatch sealed its gates and no one has gone in or out since. It is unknown whether they are even still alive as not even divination magic has been able to pierce its mysterious veil.
Does your character have any relatives?
I have an elder half-brother and younger half-sister. My elder brother is named Jacob and my sister is named Rienne. I get along very well with my sister but my brother hates me and I can say that the feeling is shared. He terrorized my sister and I during our childhood and constantly seeks to rub the fact that I am a bastard in my face. He is my father’s heir to the lordship of the Black Keep.
I am betrothed to Shaeria Mendeza of Horn’s Edge in central Brevoy. Shaeria is a beautiful Half-elven alchemist studying at the small university there.
.
Motivation
What are your character’s immediate goals? What would he like to do in the coming year?
I seek to answer the call put out by the ruling parties in Brevoy to settle the lands between Brevoy and the River Kingdoms so that I may finally have a place to start marry and start a family.
What are his long-term goals?
Become ruler so that I can show my family that I am worthy and that even though I am a bastard I can still be important.
What type of person would be his ideal mate?
I have found my ideal mate in the beautiful alchemist Shaeria of Horn’s Edge.
Who is his patron deity? Is he a devout worshiper?
I give homage to all the gods but in these endeavors my thanks and prayers go to Erastil to protect my betrothed while I am away and to help me in my quest to better the lives of the people in the region.
Is he a devout member of any nonreligious cause?
No
Is there any race, creed, alignment, religion or the like against which he is strongly prejudiced?
Not particularly, there is usually too much to do to hate. Although I hate a few individuals I don’t hate the whole race.
What is his greatest fear?
Being a nobody and just another confirmation that bastards are worthless.
What is the one task he absolutely refuses to do?
Kill a child.
.
Idiosyncrasies
What is your character’s motto or favorite saying?
“Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
What is his favorite color?
Green the color of forests and life.
Describe what he would wear if money were no object?
Robes of black trimmed in soft fur. Some tasteful pieces of jewelry but nothing to ostentatious.
What is his favorite food? Drink?
Hot Spiced Wine and Roast Boar
What is his favorite animal?
The white tiger.
What habits of his friends annoy him most?
Taking advantage of those weaker than themselves. Lying more than is necessary.

Brett Rowan |

All about "Brett" Rowan
Joe’s Character for King Maker
Joe’s Character Name: Bartleby “Brett” Rowan
Background
Where was your character born? Andoran
Who raised him? Brett was smuggled out with family members in a caravan to the east, to get away from Chelish warlords who were raiding the western provinces of his homeland. He grew up with a small “wagon train” of family members; Halflings who were mostly cousins, first cousins, and cousins to the third degree who were generally related to each other through a rather extensive collection of documentation that provides full veracity to all title and family positions within the context of the peoples who traveled together. With him were the Heathertoes Family, the Shady-Banks Brotherhood, House Hedgerow, and Cottonmill Clan.
What was happening in the region when your character was growing up?
Regionally is hard to describe, as Bartleby traveled from region to region. His family engaged in the usual caravan business. Selling and buying wears from regions to regions as a chief source of commodity. But there was more then that, naturally. The entire conclave was governed by one Shebidiah Cottonmill.
Old Shelby was a keen business man, and intent on family business besides. On each visit to a new town his folk would set up a fair. All sorts of good cheer and fun could be found within; from games of chance (the usual; ring toss, and darts, and quoits, and cards, and so forth… most as fair as a crooked lane, as the saying is often said). But besides that he would also have shows of a sort that would amuse the locals (be it the knife juggling, and the puppets, and the balancing act, and the infamous “rat baiting” where an old Dire Rat was chained to a post and forced to fight against a bunch of starving regular rats… and not what I’ll be giving much away to say that I’d be putting all my money on the one they named “The Big Cheese” for there’s none that say they saw that scabby old Dire Rat lose a fight, not that you heard that from me, for the odds where as fair as a cloudy day). And let’s not forget the food! Pies that will make your toes curl and your hair thicken, and the hair on your toes curl twice as much (I shouldn’t wonder), and good beer, and good smokes, and fair ale (when you could get a pint), and all the fried breads and cheeses a lad might ask for, and more he may turn down besides!
But it was more then just a bit o’ money making, as you may no doubt be aware. Why, Old Shelby, he had his mind on many an eye, and waited to see what they be looking at. If it was that they looked at him, he’d incline an ear to their eye, and listen to see if they might be speaking. And what then? Why, if the word was right, he’d share his piece, and if not he’d walk away. For his plan was more hard then simple. And what was that plan? Why, he wanted to bring in more lads and lasses into the great idea of overthrowing them what did his folk wrong.
For his jugglers were more then play-folk, they did a bit of knife work for the cause. And his “magicians” weren’t just blowing up fireworks and so forth; they were out on a time blowing up things that did bad for his people. Old Shelby had a plan, and we were all in it, and that was to recruit for the good of our folk and do harm to those who would do US harm, like them dirty thieven’ Chelish ruffians.
Does your character have any relatives?
Boatloads of them! Didn’t you read the bit above? For gods’s sake, read things before asking about them.
Motivation
What are your character’s immediate goals? What would he like to do in the coming year?
Why, old Brett wants to smash down any who would do bad things. That’s why he’s out in Brevoy, to smash down the bad types.
What are his long-term goals?
Well, that’s a bit of business, I’D say! See, Bartleby, he wants to make a place for his folk (that’s mates AND kin. HE makes no business, so long as they all be good). But the short of it is, as I see it, is that he is trying to stake a claim for a bitty of land, and then maybe keep it safe, and move in his folk and give them a safe place to grow crops, and do some farming, and that sort of thing.
What type of person would be his ideal mate?
Why, that’s a tough choice. I’m not particular on a lad’s bedroom habits, but I’d gather he’d be looking for a lass in the drawing room who knows her way around the kitchen, and the fields as well. But he don’t want no scullery maid (though he may have had one or two, by-the-by) but a lass with a bit of pluck and spunk, as they say. Oh, and I suppose the lass may as well be fair to the eye, and sweet to the ear, and so forth. But that’s his business, as I’d say.
Who is his patron deity? Is he a devout worshiper?
I don’t know that he’s a man of the book, as they say, but he has the rights words of praise for them that be high and so forth (by that I reckon that be them that are the gods), but I don’t recall he has any strong feelings one way or the other, though he is but respectful of all that are due.
Is he a devout member of any nonreligious cause?
Not to my knowing, except for the overthrow of any dark folk and the uplifting of the good and stepped on. He did once win the First Ribbon in pie eating two years running, but that was years ago. So, in a way, he is devout for eating pies, I suppose. But you didn’t hear that from ME!
Is there any race, creed, alignment, religion or the like against which he is strongly prejudiced?
Race? Why for certain! He hates them that do dark things, one’s with dark taints, as they say: orc-folk, trolls, demons, devils, goblins, and any more that I can’t count on my hands! He’s not to keen on any aligning with things that aren’t good, but I can’t see him hating those who don’t truck with his notions, simply for the way they truck. As for religion? That’s any man’s fancy, I say, and he may say the same if you asked him not me. But he don’t care what god you pray to, that’s your business.
What is his greatest fear?
He fears nothing, no sir! But he isn’t comfortable with certain things, I think. But what those are, I don’t know, not rightly.
What is the one task he absolutely refuses to do?
Hurt people that don’t need it. He don’t like doing wrong by no folk, even them that may deserve it. He’d rather be good not bad, and’ll set steel to any that deserve it as I’ve seen him do time and again.
Idiosyncrasies
What is your character’s motto or favorite saying?
“All’s well that ends better!”
What is his favorite color?
Green, I’d say.
Describe what he would wear if money were no object?
He’d probably wear something nice, but not too fancy, I’d think. Comfortable silks, and maybe some gold AND jewels, if money don’t cost nothing. But it’s rare that I see him in either, as he is a lad who doesn’t care for spending when he needn’t.
What is his favorite food? Drink?
Food? Why, that’s a hard choice, that is. Best if I be given you just the short and particulars. Hmm… Now, he don’t care for fancy stuff as I see it, just short home-cooked meals that any lad or lass can make (not what he isn’t a good cook; why, he’s good even by standards that WE judge). He eats then (AND prepares) for his fancy (on the occasion he has a chance to cook) pies and pork, and pickled cabbage, and cut greens and buttered spuds, and pickled sausages, and fried bacon, and roast mutton, and sweet apples, and plump peaches, and hot soups and cold cheeses, and baked breads with honey and butter and cream on top, but that’s only favorites, as I’d say, for I’ve seen him eat a bit, and then a bit more! As for drink? Why, a good pint of beer is good to wash it down, though I’ve seen him drink a bit of other things; brandy, ale, wine, rum, and even, as the occasion calls for it, nectars, meads, and the like. Not that I’ve seen him drink a dwarf lad over under the table and over the moon, as WE may say it, but he does enjoy the brew from time to time, and holds it better then others that I’ve seen.
What is his favorite animal?
He’s partial to dogs, I’d say. Back in his tweens (as WE call them) he had a young pup named Pip who he chased about with. Pip was a good pup, as I see it, and they were the best of friends. Ever since then he never took a new pup, as he always talked on Pip, but he does sure love the little dog, well after the fact and is always stooping to pet a dog, and throwing them bits of treat to please a pup. That or scratch an ear, or rub their belly if they let him.
What habits of his friends annoy him most?
Well, I notice that he has less tolerance for SOME that talk a piece, getting short with those who don’t stop talking (not that I’ve seen him do it often). But I would say that he is a lad who takes action, being bold with deeds rather then words, and has less patience for those who don’t have the gumption to be quiet sooner rather then later.
Traits
(rank each trait from 1 to 10)
Courtesy 10
Valor 10
Self-sacrifice 10
Generosity 10
Sobriety … 4, 5 (why, by thunder, is this on the list no how, I’D say!)
Calm temper 4 (bah, his temper be fine, if you’re on the right side of it)
Optimism 10
Curiosity (well, he’s very curious, I’D say, about the stuff he’s interested in)
Forgiveness 1 OR 10, for he forgives those who needs it, as we’ve all seen, and those who don’t he doesn’t
Cheerfulness 10
Patience 6 (to be fair, he’s patient enough, but short with those who talk a piece, if I may be so bold)
Honesty 10, except those who he lies to, but it all be for a good purpose, except when it isn’t
Helpfulness 10
Loyalty 10
Miscellaneous
What well-known media figure from sports, movies or politics most closely resembles your character?
Why, he has the valor of Richard the Lionheart, the passion of David of Israel, the zest for life as any Musketeers (three OR otherwise) and the wit of Solomon.
What would be his theme song?
I’d reckon anything by the immortal John Williams.
If his friends were to write his epitaph, what would it be?
Something very fine, and quiet appropriate, I don’t doubt!
What would be his job in modern society?
Well, that’s a bit tricksy, as they say. Do you mean, his job of choice (perhaps a farmer, who does a bit of hunting from time to time), or of otherwise. For if Fate lends her hand, he’d be (in MODERN times) a Governor of sorts.
Introduction Questions
Do you have any nicknames, street names, titles, or aliases?
Yes. They call him “Brett”.
What is your full birth name?
Bartleby Rowan.
Where do you live?
Where destiny, Fate, and his wits AND luck take him.
Why do you live there?
Because, by thunder, it’d be hard to live somewhere were you aren’t at.
What is your citizenship status?
He has no status to speak of, but a good citizen as many might ask, and others more may answer.
What is your most obvious blessing or strength?
“A perky chap with a bright eye and red cheeks” says one. Yet he’s fairer then most and has a cleft chin besides, and is handy with his hands and book-learned besides (knowing his letters). Yet he loves to laugh, and breaks bread with kings and beggars alike, with no truck with your bloodline so long as you have a good tale, a tall drink and full pipe to share with.
What is your most obvious flaw or weakness?
He’s a bit hard spoken with folks that talk over long for his taste, and he is less eager for thinking then he is for action, preferring deeds to words, as they say.
Was there any event or cause to cause these weaknesses?
I’d guess he got impatient as a lad with our folk not standing up for themselves against the Big Folk. So he most likely is eager to do right by them that didn’t. Not by standing about and bandying words, but taking steel to those who did us wrong.
Physical Traits
What is your general body type, frame, bone structure, and poise?
Taller then most of our lads, and leaner too. Carries himself well, if I say so.
What is your skin colour?
Fair to tan.
What is your hair colour?
Thick and curly brown.
What is your hair style?
Long, tied back with a bit of cord or ribbon, if he has it.
Do you have any facial hair?
Not that I’ve seen, but we don’t truck with facial hair.
What is your eye colour?
Bright blue.
Does it change?
Does his EYE color change? Who ASKS these questions, eh?
How attractive are you?
Fairer then some, as they say, and the ladies do moon for him from time to time, as I’VE seen it.
What is your most distinguishing feature?
His fair ways.
Do you have any scars, tattoos, or birthmarks?
None that I’ve seen.
What is your handedness (left/right)?
Both, as I’ve seen him use them. And ten fingers and such between them, too.
Do you resemble some currently known person?
Just those he looks and acts like.
Do you wear a uniform?
Aye, indeed! Dresses in the surcoat of an Aldorian Swordlord. Became one of their squire’s, as they call them. But now he quests for folk on honor; on parole, as one may say, if I may be so bold.
What kind of clothing do you wear?
Well made, and somewhat worse for flair. Bright colors and bold, and sure to arouse attention and daunt those who watch it so.
What is your clothing's style or level of sophistication?
High of sophistication, and style is bold and bright as well.
What sort of vocal tone do you have?
A good one; pleasant of voice, and he sings a good piece too, if I may be so bold.
Do you get sick? ' Maybe you catch the flu twice a year and that's it? Or maybe you have a weak immune system and catch anything that goes around?
I never knew him to get sick that often, or if he does, less then other times. He seems healthy enough, as I’ve watched him.
History
Where is your homeland?
South and west to us, I’d reckon, being that we’re living north and east of where he was born.
What are its people like?
Like any, I’d say.
Are you aware of its history?
Less aware of the history of the land then our people.
Are you patriotic or a social outcast?
A bit of both; patriotic of the right causes though.
What are your opinions of home?
He never speaks well of where he is born, but always has good to say where his head rest, as the saying goes.
Did you witness any historical events?
Any event he’s involved in, IS (by the book, as they may say) historical!
Are your real reasons for becoming an adventurer different from what you tell others?
Not that I know of.
How do you feel about other races?
The same as any race, except the one’s he don’t fancy, as I mentioned above.
Were there any traumatic experiences in your early years (death of a family member, abandonment, orphaned at an early age, etc.)?
Well, he didn’t care for the death of Pip, as I see it. But he also misses others more, and less folk not as much, as best as may be, I suppose.
Did you have any childhood friends?
Every family member was a friend to the lad, I’d say, but there were some he was friendlier then others, like little Lily Banks, and Rose Heathertoes, once I did hear that he even plumbed the depths of that elven miss, or so I’ve heard tell, though HE denies the whole thing. But then, being a lad of quick steel and hardy action enlarges rumors of such things, I purpose, and SUPPOSE as well!
Are you still close to them or have you grown apart?
Hard to be close to someone you live far from, but his heart may be of a different mind, as be said. Of course, I can’t see what is hidden, as his heart is surely kept beneath his chest, and so I don’t know the way of it. But I reckon he’s a lad to be fair in his thoughts.
Which toys from your childhood have you kept?
None to my knowledge.
What conflicts might arise from your past?
Hard to say, none that I know of.
Do you have any sort of criminal record?
Not as I’ve heard tell.
Family
Who were your parents?
His mother and father, as would seem right. Do you even bother to read the stuff I wrote above, by thunder?
Were you raised by them?
Them, AND others.
What did your parents and/or foster parents do for a living?
They worked as lads and lasses in a traveling fair. But they also were those who took steel to those who needed it, and fire to those who might need it to, as they killed and burned those who did wrong, being that they didn’t like the Chelish raiders and such, and punished them for their evil.
What was their standing in the community?
Higher then most, I’d say.
Did your family stay in one area or move around a lot?
They travel about, as you may have known if you read above.
How did you get along with your parents?
Good enough, when they were there to get along with, and when they weren’t he didn’t.
How would your parents describe you?
I would think that they would say just that they were proud of him. And that’s the most that’s to be said, no more praise be worthy; but they loved him as their lamb too, they did.
Are any or all of your family still alive?
More then one could count, but we do, for we keep proper records, we do, and all are named and numbered birthed, wedded, and deathed as we write it down. Even so far to sign their name three times and in three different inks, as is right and proper, and proper and write, if I may say so.
Personality/Beliefs
Do you, or did you, have any role models?
Most likely Old Shelby, and (if I may say so) myself as well.
Do you have any great rational or irrational fears or phobias?
Not one for snakes, and bugs, and other creepy, crawling little nasties.
What, if anything, would it take for you to be able to overcome this?
Why, I should think if he stepped on the bug, then he’d not be afeard of it. But I’d guess he thinks the same too, for he steps on that what he fears, I’d say.
How do you react when this fear manifests itself?
As good as may be expected.
Are you willing to discuss, or even admit to, the situation?
With deed less word, I’d guess. For his own actions speak more then his words on the fears.
What are your attitudes regarding material wealth?
I heard him say once (if I may be so bold with his words), “It’s not HAVING money that’d be important, but the LACK of money that’s really important”. Though I’d guess there’s some that know on what he meant, though others see clear on its meaning.
Are you miserly with your share of the wealth, or do you spend it freely?
Spends his wealth freely, as I’ve seen. Generous with his coin, buying beer and beef for any and all that would enjoy it. As I’VE seen it.
Are you greedy or generous?
I’ll let you read the above piece on that question.
Do you see wealth as a mark of success, or just as a means to an end?
Both I would say; for wealthy folk are generally successful. And as for the end, why, that is a fair means to add as well.
How do you generally treat others?
Good as can be, I’d say.
Do you trust easily (perhaps too easily) or not?
Only those who need trusting, and not those who don’t, I’d gather.
Are you introverted (shy and withdrawn) or extroverted (outgoing)?
In OR out, I’d say he be the best verted type that there is, either way!
Are you a humble soul or blusteringly proud?
Why, he’s blusteringingly humble.
Do you act differently than you feel (concealing your true thoughts)?
Not that I know of. But I’d gather that if he concealed something, I’d not know it!
What is your favourite type of animal?
He sure does love pups!
Is there anything that enrages you?
Unjustedness!
Do you enjoy "roughing it", or do you prefer your creature comforts?
Clearly he prefers creature comforts. Why, who ever heard of lounging in the rough with a good beer, a good smoke, smoked bacon, and fair comforts?
What would you do if something were stolen from you?
I’d reckon he’d get it back.
What would you do if you were badly insulted publicly?
Steel aside, he cuts worse with his words then blade, if need be. I’d believe he’d cut back with words and no more then was fair.
What do you consider to be the worst crime someone could commit and why? Something evil, I’d say.
Do you support the current government of your homeland?
He supports his people, not his government, unless they are made of his people. Though he is a bit particular to one of them Sword Lords, pledging his service after some well done deed. Best ask HIM about that, though, as I don’t know much more.
What form of government do you believe is the best (democracy, monarchy, anarchy, aristocratic rule, oligarchy, matriarchy) and why?
Democracy, as some call it. Then we all get a say in what’s what.
Have you ever been persecuted for your political stance?
Not at all, as he don’t make much stands on politics.
Do you have any unusual or nervous mannerisms, such as when talking, thinking, afraid, under stress, or when embarrassed?
I’d not say so.
What is your most treasured possession?
I never knew he treasured a particular possession overmuch.
Do you have a good luck charm?
None as I know.
Do you prefer to tear down or build up?
He doesn’t care for tearing things down, except for weeds and tearing down a tall plate of food.
Are you deliberate or spontaneous?
Depends on his mood, I would think.
Do you prefer the town or the country?
I think he prefers a town IN the country.
If made to decide, would you rather be deaf or blind? Why?
Most likely deaf, otherwise, how could he see what he is doing?
Describe your worst nightmares.
Taking one of these surveys, I don’t doubt! Which is most likely why he made ME do it!

Traits/Description
Rich Parents: Start the game with 900 GP
Heirloom Weapon: You may buy a weapon at regular price. This weapon is considered Masterwork, and you are always proficient with weapons of those types.
Dirty Fighter: When you hit a foe you are flanking, you deal an additional 1 point of damage (this damage is added to your base damage, and is multiplied on a critical hit). This additional damage is a trait bonus.
Feat Description
Weapon Finesse: Can use light weapons with your Dexterity Modifier to attack, instead of Strength. Can also use the following weapons: rapier, elven curved blade, whip or spiked chain. And because of Trait you can also use the Aldori Dueling Sword.
Class Ability Description
Favored Enemy: +2 to attack and damage, as well as +2 to all bluff, knowledge, perception and survival skills when combating his favorite enemy
Favorite Enemy Chosen: Humans
Track: Add ½ Ranger Level to all Track Skills, minimum of 1.
Wild Empathy: A ranger can improve the initial attitude of an animal. This ability functions just like a Diplomacy check to improve the attitude of a person (see Using Skills). The ranger rolls 1d20 and adds his ranger level and his Charisma bonus to determine the wild empathy check result. The typical domestic animal has a starting attitude of indifferent, while wild animals are usually unfriendly.
To use wild empathy, the ranger and the animal must be within 30 feet of one another under normal visibility conditions. Generally, influencing an animal in this way takes 1 minute, but, as with influencing people, it might take more or less time.
The ranger can also use this ability to influence a magical beast with an Intelligence score of 1 or 2, but he takes a –4 penalty on the check.
Misc. Description/Notes
Currently Brett has his Falcon, Cree, and his war pony Stybba. More on them can be found.

Brett Rowan |

Physical Description of Bartleby “Brett” Rowan
Bartleby is tall for a Halfling, measuring three foot, four inches, yet is fairly lean.
He wears his hair long, tied back in a ponytail.
He is fair of face, with a cleft chin and bright blue eyes that often look gray in certain light. This is a startling contrast to the normal colored brown eyes of usual Halflings, and will often draw attention to him.
Bartleby is an excellent shot with flintlock weapons, learning how to handle a firearm in his days with his family and their traveling carnival. Firearms are still rare to most rustics, and many will pay coin to see someone demonstrate a good display of trick shooting.
When Bartleby was 22 (he is currently 28) he assisted in liberating a young man from bondage when he and some cousins assaulted a Chelish slave caravan. This man was the youngest son of an Aldori Duke (Duke Eriq Esserian – more details can be found on the Duke elsewhere). The lad that was saved was Donavon Esserian. Though Donovan was the youngest son, he was well loved by his family.
When Bartleby returned the lad to his home, he was well received with pomp and courtesy and nursed back to health (for the young Halfling was deeply wounded by the slavers when freeing the boy). During this time he grew closer to the boy, and pledged his service the Duke, who accepted.
It was at this time that he was given a new name, Brett, to distinguish himself as an agent of the Duke (it should be noted that “Brett” was most likely chosen with some element of brevity by Bartleby, for the name is similar to his birth name, and sounds like a poor man’s bastardization of his own name. Further, it has no ancient lineage or word of power aligned to it. Scions of the Duke typically ensure their “new name” is one of power or prestige; Bartleby, or Brett, seems to have taken an opposite tact. He admits the Duke is right to ask him to choose a new name, but feels his sense of honor and power should come from actions, not words).
All soldiers who pledge their swords to the Duke and are inducted into his service choose a new name for themselves. The Duke made this decree for those in his service so that they would be reminded daily, and indeed, whenever their name was mentioned, that they were now following a new path in their new life, in a cause of honor and dedication to a cause higher then their own birthright.
Brett then began to train in the ways of the sword; riding; falconry; swimming; hunting and tracking. Moreover, he was instructed in the ways of heraldry, courtly manners, dancing, and singing. All of these skills were mandated by the law of the Duke, and all his warriors were so instructed in these skills so that any who saw his outriders would know their quality. For the Duke believed that any and all who carried his standard should be more then a simple sell-sword, but someone that others would look upon with respect. He added that all men may be noble in bearing, if not blood, and his own warriors would have this proved true by their conduct.
Brett mastered all of these skills with ease, but in the end he never lost his earthy humor and his somewhat rustic way of speech, a talent of talk that made even the Duke smile. Though he possesses himself with all decorum and dignity in the presence of what he would call “Men of Quality”, he prefers ribald jokes, a cold drink and hot food in the company of “good-natured simple folk”.
He seems to have the ability to alternate between his polite manners and his jocular ways with great ease.
After five years of service he was released by the Duke to travel the lands and bring justice to those who would do harm to any free-folk. This was a sad farewell on both sides, for though Brett was eager to travel the lands and return to what he believes was his true purpose (namely, to find a place for his family to settle in peace) he was well received by the Duke’s family and they were sad to see him go, as he was sad to leave them.
Brett wears the heraldic armor of the Duke’s people; a midnight blue leather breastplate with a white falcon crest, and black bracers with a golden falcon embroidered on each arm band.
He has been gifted with an Aldori dueling blade, crafted for one of his height specifically by the Duke’s people when he left the land.
Typically he wears his sword on his left hip, and on his right hip he carries a pistol. Another pistol is slung under his left arm and he often carries a dagger tucked in his belt at the crease of his back. Over all of it he wears a black cloak, fastened over his left shoulder by a golden broach that is in the shape of a falcon.
On his war pony he carries his gear, including a musket, and various pieces of food and equipment for himself and his companions; namely his mount Stybba and his falcon Cree.
He has been well trained in the ways of hawking, and the north men regard the falcon as a bird of prey more noble is bearing then a simple hawk.

Dain GM |

Here are the following house rules.
1. Since the game is designed to encourage writing, players are encouraged to post. A player gains 5% of the total Experience points needed to raise each level every time they post. This experience point bonus is limited to no more then once a day, and no more then four times a week; no matter how long the post is, or how many posts they post a day or a week.
For example, if you need a total of 1,000 experience points to go from level 1 to 2, you will gain 50 experience points a day per post, no more then once a day, with no more then 200 experience a week. If you need 10,000 points you will gain 500 a day per post, no more then 2,000 a week.
You will gain extra experience for usual things too; such as good role-playing (in the form of good writing), combat, heroic deeds, clever problem solving, and so forth. But, if all goes as planned, players will level up, at a minimum of no less then five weeks a level. But of course, they will likely go up much faster with combat and so forth.
2. Combat on a play by post is often clunky. We will therefore choose specific “combat nights” roughly once a week, in which players will meet together and play round by round via Skype, IM, conference call, or whatever pre-agreed method is chosen.
FAQ
1. Is a one sentence post worth the same as five page post for purposes of the 5 percent experience bonus?
Yes. But the person making the five page post will most likely gain bonus’s from time to time; either with experience points or in-game bonus’s.
2. I don’t like writing lots of stuff, and I am rather busy. How can I keep up with people who write a lot?
Well, you still get experience points. You will get the basic benefits of other players, though they may level slightly faster. Most of their “benefits” will be in the form of in-game bonus’s though.
3. Are we only going to get experience for writing? What about other stuff?
Though writing is important, especially in a play by post, we’ll be using other things such combat, critical thinking, problem solving and other dynamics to help raise levels for the characters as well. There will be epic quests, epic battles, and epic stories. There will be other things besides writing.
4. Are we limited to once a day post?
Of course not, that’s idiotic. You aren’t “limited” to anything. If a character posts a question, feel free to respond to him in game. Short answers can provide a nicer back-and-forth then long personal narratives. Though of course, either is acceptable.
6. How exactly does combat work.
Typically a “combat map” will be forwarded out to the players via email. This map is organized in a grid formation. Players will be on the grid. Each “Round” the player will make their move, and then their character will be moved to the appropriate grid (i.e. move my character from Grid A-07 to Grid C-11). During the round they can make combat actions (such as dice rolling for combat, or skills, etcetera).
Explanations with good narrative may often modify stats/rolls.
7. How is this related to Skype, IM or whatever?
Well, we can post one action at a time, then you can wait till I get home, read your one action, then respond to your action, or I can just go through the list; bam, bam, bam, and get things done fast. That’s how it’s going to get done.
8. What system will we end up using: skype, IM or what?
That will depend on player feedback.
9. What if I can’t make it to a combat?
Nothing. Your player will be controlled by the GM, or you may designate another player to run your character if you can’t make it. We will try to accommodate you as best as possible; combat will be planned several days in advance at the least, and may be adjusted if you write to ask about it. But if you can’t make it to the combat, we’ll play your character for you. You will, however, not gain any experience for the combat if you can’t make it. So it is a good thing to make it up with some writing.
10. What if I get really far behind? Is there any way to catch up? I mean, what if I am out of town and can’t post for a week or so.
First, you are really pushy with all these questions. But whatever. Okay, here’s what’s what. If you feel you are lagging behind, and want to get back via “extra credit” send an email to me, and we can arrange something so you can get back to credit.
11. What happens when I raise a level for my weekly posts?
The day you raise your level is the day that your “writing day/writing week” re-boots. In other words, if you post four posts Sunday-Saturday, then you will get five percent per level. But if you raise your level on Thursday, you have that Thursday, Friday and Saturday to restart your bonus five percent posts per level, only now it is on the higher level. So instead of getting 50 experience on level one, when level 2 comes around you would get 100 (assuming level two you needed two thousand experience, for example).
12. What IS the leveling table for raising level.
We will use the “Fast Track” found on this link here.
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/character-advancement
12. How much fun can I expect during this game?
Fun is a quantitative variable which will be portioned out as the GM sees fit. Kidding aside, it’s a play by post. Don’t let the above stuff over-complicate things for you. If you like to write, and post, and have fun doing it, don’t stress too much about combat and stuff. Combat will only be useful if you like it, and enjoy raising levels quickly. If you like to write, then you’ll get there too, eventually. And if you really lag behind, you can do “make up” writing for extra credit.

Tricks Known (as taught by Riordan)
1. Attack (DC 20) The animal attacks apparent enemies. You may point to a particular creature that you wish the animal to attack, and it will comply if able. Normally, an animal will attack only humanoids, monstrous humanoids, giants, or other animals. Teaching an animal to attack all creatures (including such unnatural creatures as undead and aberrations) counts as two tricks.
2. Come (DC 15): The animal comes to you, even if it normally would not do so.
3. Defend (DC 20): The animal defends you (or is ready to defend you if no threat is present), even without any command being given. Alternatively, you can command the animal to defend a specific other character.
4. Down (DC 15): The animal breaks off from combat or otherwise backs down. An animal that doesn’t know this trick continues to fight until it must flee (due to injury, a fear effect, or the like) or its opponent is defeated.
5. Fetch (DC 15) The animal goes and gets something. If you do not point out a specific item, the animal fetches some random object.
6. Guard (DC 20) The animal stays in place and prevents others from approaching.
7. Heel (DC 15) The animal follows you closely, even to places where it normally wouldn’t go.
8. Track (DC 20) The animal tracks the scent presented to it. (This requires the animal to have the scent ability)
Tooth Dagger
Carved from a golden dragon’s tooth, the dagger is filled with many strange magical properties and powers. Most of which can be unlocked, but not until much later. What is clearly known, right away, is that the dagger function as a “bane weapon” against “evil creatures”. In this case, Evil creatures are not any creature with an evil alignment (such as a man who is evil, or a dwarf who is evil) it specifically refers to creatures that are naturally “evil” even if they behave well, as an individual (such as an Imp, which is a type of Devil).
More powers may be unlocked with time and study, but for now the following are the dagger’s special powers.
Magical Dagger: Bane Against Evil Subtypes
Dagger 1d4+1 to hit and damage
Against Evil Subtypes 1d4+3 to hit, 1d4+3+2d6 to damage
Traits
Ease of Faith: Gain +1 to Diplomacy Checks, Diplomacy is a class skill for you.
Gifted Adept: Choose 1 Entangle. This spell is effectively 1 level higher.

Wild Empathy: A Druid can effect the attitude of a natural animal. This works like a Diplomacy Check. Roll 1d20+Druid Level + Charisma Modifier.
Nature Bond: Gain one Domain, as a Cleric.
Weather Domain
Granted Powers: With power over storm and sky, you can call down the wrath of the gods upon the world below.
Storm Burst (Sp): As a standard action, you can create a storm burst targeting any foe within 30 feet as a ranged touch attack. The storm burst deals 1d6 points of non-lethal damage + 1 point for every two cleric levels you possess. In addition, the target is buffeted by winds and rain, causing it to take a –2 penalty on attack rolls for 1 round. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.
Lightning Lord (Sp): At 8th level, you can call down a number of bolts of lightning per day equal to your cleric level. You can call down as many bolts as you want with a single standard action, but no creature can be the target of more than one bolt and no two targets can be more than 30 feet apart. This ability otherwise functions as call lightning.
Domain Spells: 1st—obscuring mist, 2nd—fog cloud, 3rd—call lightning, 4th—sleet storm, 5th—ice storm, 6th—control winds, 7th—control weather, 8th—whirlwind, 9th—storm of vengeance.

Misc. Description/Notes
ECOLOGY of a Griffon
Environment temperate hills
Organization solitary, pair, or pride (6–10)
Treasure incidental
Griffons are powerful aerial predators, swooping down from their high aeries to take their prey with beak and talon. Aggressive and territorial, they are no mere beasts, but rather calculating combatants and loyal companions to those who earn their respect, fighting to the death to protect their friends and kin.
Weighing in at over 500 pounds and measuring 8 feet long from hooked beak to tufted tail, the griffon strikes an imposing silhouette that has long been used in heraldry and other iconography as a symbol of power, authority, and justice. In reality, the griffon is less concerned with abstract concepts than with hunting food and protecting its own. While they can sometimes be trained or befriended to serve as mounts, griffons have no inherent affinity for humanoids, and frequently come into bloody conflict with civilized races over their attempts to secure their favorite food—horse flesh. City folk may marvel at the trained griffon's stately manner and 25-foot wingspan, but those farmers forced to share territory with its wild kin know to hurry home and secure their barns when the beasts' hunting shrieks split the sky.
Griffons mate for life, and will often search for years to take vengeance over a slain mate or child. It was likely this innate stubbornness and fierce loyalty that first brought them into domestic use as mounts and guardians of treasure hoards. Despite the inherent danger, trade in captured griffons and stolen eggs is brisk, with their eggs worth up to 3,500 gp apiece and live young twice that. Characters eager for griffon mounts, however, should note that buying or forcibly domesticating intelligent creatures like griffons is still recognized as slavery by most good deities, and winning a griffon's allegiance of its own free will is no easy task. Reaching a mutually agreeable accord (or even a friendship) is a much more elegant and safe route to securing a griffon mount.
Before it can be ridden in combat, a griffon requires practice bearing the weight of its rider. In order to be trained successfully, a griffon must first be helpful toward its trainer (possibly requiring a Diplomacy, Intimidate, or Handle Animal check). After that, 6 weeks of practice and a successful DC 20 Handle Animal check is sufficient for the beast to be comfortable with its burden, and due to their intelligence, trained griffons can be treated as knowing every trick listed in the Handle Animal skill description, possibly even responding to new, simple requests made in Common.
Griffons can carry up to 300 pounds as a light load, 600 pounds as a medium load, and 900 pounds as a heavy load. Riding a griffon requires an exotic saddle.

Ariarh Kane |

Where was your character born? Artume, a small domain nestled amongst the hills and fertile plains of the River Kingdoms. It lies on the western branch of the Sellen River and is well known for its high quality livestock, fine leather goods and natural stone.
Who raised her? Two loving and protective human parents predominantly raised me over these nineteen years. My father is a rancher in Artume and breeds and trains horses and my mother’s a local healer (with extensive knowledge of herbal lore). My great, great, great maternal grandmother, Irethia Sama, was an Aasimar and said to have originated from a true celestial. I am testament to that bloodline/lineage.
What was happening in the region when your character was growing up? Banditry was/is rife, and, rebellion ever escalating. We were somewhat sheltered from the rebellion on our ranch (for the most part), but my father’s livelihood ensures pure and highly intelligent (well trained) horses, which are coveted by bandits, rogues and even the odd mercenary or two. Desperate, treacherous folk make earning an honest living difficult and fraught with various degrees of danger.
Does your character have any relatives? I am an only child born to only children, so my family is made up of three people: father, mother and me. My grandparents are long deceased, through natural causes fortunately. Our small family is close-knit and very loyal.
Motivation
What are your character’s immediate goals? What would she like to do in the coming year?
Gain some independence. I have been safely ensconced for too long, surrounded in main by those I know and love. I need to expand my experiences and perceptions if I am to grow and reach my true/full potential. I would like to meet with other druids and perhaps encounter another Aasimar in my travels. I have a need to learn more as knowledge is an important key.
What are her long-term goals? Understand my nature and strength. Become a useful resource in the fight for good and return the balance to good. Perhaps fall in love and bear children.
What type of person would be her ideal mate? A genuine, courageous, loyal, passionate and honourable person would be ideal. Also, someone who has a quick and somewhat dry sense of humour. Intelligence and wisdom are attractive traits in such a mate.
Who is her patron deity? Is she a devout worshiper? Gozreh. I am devout in my own way from whatever knowledge I have come to understand and know.
Is she a devout member of any nonreligious cause? The Green Faith. My mother and I try to follow the tenants of this philosophy but our faith is more secretive than not. It would not be wise to let slip our healing abilities or the places we practice such faith.
Is there any race, creed, alignment, religion or the like against which she is strongly prejudiced? Evil in any shape, or, form. Generally I get along with any good creature. But, I vehemently dislike orcs and half-orcs for the darkness that lies within their hearts and I am suspicious of Tieflings as they have a natural compulsion toward evil.
What is her greatest fear? Evil’s taint taking control of every thing, and, leading to the ultimate destruction of life.
What is the one task she absolutely refuses to do? Kill an innocent.
Idiosyncrasies
What is your character’s motto or favorite saying? “We must be the change we wish to see.”
What is her favorite color? Blue: The colour of sea and sky.
Describe what she would wear if money were no object? A beautiful silk gown, in a vibrant gem-like shade of blue. A soft, warm woollen cape/hood possibly embroidered with silk thread.
What is her favorite food? Drink? Favourite food: Fruits and vegetables, hand grown. Home-baked bread. Drink: Water.
What is her favorite animal? The wild, black stallion is my favourite for its majesty, nobility, freedom and power.
What habits of her friends annoy her most? Being over-protective (or treating me differently) and keeping vital information from me.

Miscellaneous
What well-known media figure from sports, movies or politics most closely resembles your character? In personality, my character closely resembles Kaylee Frye’s (Firefly/Serenity) positive, optimistic outlook and energy; Lois Lane’s (Smallville) gumption/guts and take action stand and Selene’s (Underworld) undeterred direction, loyalty and uncovering truth at any cost. Stoic like the young Queen Victoria of England.
What would be her theme song? “Stand My Ground” by Within Temptation.
If her friends were to write her epitaph, what would it be?
Ariarh Saedra Kane
Beloved Daughter and Friend,
Protector of the Light.

What would be her job in modern society? Certified Natural Health Professional (Nutrition Scientist & Clinical Naturopath), delving into alternative medicines, and discovering cures.
Introduction Questions
Do you have any nicknames, street names, titles, or aliases? Ry (pet name used by her family and close friends).
What is your full birth name? Ariarh (pronounced Aa-ry-aa) Saedra Kane.
Where do you live? Till now, I have been living with my parents on their ranch in Artume in the River Kingdoms.
Why do you live there? It is my home and my parents have been protective and have tried to shield me from those who would see me as an enemy or a possession.
What is your citizenship status? Citizen of the River Kingdoms.
What is your most obvious blessing or strength? I am rather perceptive. My sensitivity &/or intuition is high.
What is your most obvious flaw or weakness? I am fiercely opinionated and will do everything in my power to protect my ideals.
Was there any event or cause to cause these weaknesses? Not a direct event, but perhaps witnessing the world around me splinter and grow ever desperate and turn to evil ways. Anarchy (in terms of lawlessness) gives people an excuse to do as they please at any cost. Plus, keeping secret that one is a druid can teach a person to become protective of such things as ideals.
Physical Traits
What is your general body type, frame, bone structure, and poise? I am taller than an average human female (around 5’9”) and my body is naturally slender but I have a defined strength. I have an upright posture and a graceful (and when necessary, agile) way of moving.
What is your skin colour? Pale, almost white skin thanks to my Aasimar ancestry.
What is your hair colour? Platinum Blonde.
What is your hairstyle? Long, silky straight hair, which I keep loose down my back. But when necessary, I tie it back with cord or ribbon.
Do you have any facial hair? No, thank you!
What is your eye colour? My eyes are vivid sapphire blue.
Does it change? Sometimes, they can appear an emerald green.
How attractive are you? For as long as I have lived, I have been called “beautiful”. It’s an unusual beauty – and it can either repel or draw another creature. It is something that comes with the bloodline I come from.
What is your most distinguishing feature? My most distinguishing features are my crystalline eyes and melodic voice.
Do you have any scars, tattoos, or birthmarks? I have a birthmark in the shape of a sickle moon in the middle of my shoulder blades.
What is your handedness (left/right)? I predominantly use my right hand but I am ambidextrous.
Do you resemble some currently known person? No, I look different from any current person in town. I am told however, that I do resemble my (late) great, great, great grandmother, Irethia Sama.
Do you wear a uniform? No, I have no need of such to this point in my life.
What kind of clothing do you wear? Practical. Warm, comfortable and at times waterproof clothing as I help my father train the horses (plus, I like the freedom of a long shirt or tunic with a pair of leggings and boots). But, in saying that, I am not adverse to a pretty bright coloured gown every now and again.
What is your clothing's style or level of sophistication? We work hard and I prefer simple and practical clothing. Plus, it is a good idea to blend in with the community rather than draw unnecessary attention. I do however like well-crafted garb of fine material on a whole.
What sort of vocal tone do you have? Melodic. It has enough lightness and sweetness to draw people but it still possesses a certain strength that aids in making a point.
Do you get sick? Maybe you catch the flu twice a year and that's it? Or maybe you have a weak immune system and catch anything that goes around? Not really. I rarely get sick from any common viruses. My parents tell me I have a strong constitution.
History
Where is your homeland? Artume, along the western branch of the Sellen River, in the River Kingdoms.
What are its people like? The neighbouring folk are tough, hardworking and fair ranchers, leather makers and stonemasons. (Salt of the earth kind of people and those whom we call ‘friend’.) They work their land and protect themselves from bandits, cattle rustlers, and criminals. But as a whole, The River Kingdoms are made up of an assortment of characters and many bad elements.
Are you aware of its history? Yes, from what I have taught, read or seen. I am sure there is still much to uncover as to the agendas etc of those who came before and who are in power at present.
Are you patriotic or a social outcast? I am loyal to the land and its people so in that way I am patriotic. My unusual looks however can make me somewhat of an outcast, as I am the only one of my kind in this region (that I am aware of).
What are your opinions of home? Home in terms of the ranch and my family and neighbours is special to me. Home in regard to The River Kingdoms is a place filled with chaos, with brutal despotism and pure anarchy tearing the lands apart. It saddens and sickens me. It also strengthens my resolve to upturn the evil and return the lands to good.
Did you witness any historical events? No, for I have only lived a short nineteen years so far. Also, for the most part I have been “tucked away” on the ranch by my protective parents.
Are your real reasons for becoming an adventurer different from what you tell others? Not mostly. Those who what I am about -- my ideals and morals -- instinctively understand the reasons (though they may not completely agree with the adventuring lifestyle). Yes, there may be other reasons I keep to myself out of necessity.
How do you feel about other races? I am rather accepting of the different races and especially so with the good races. I do have a vehement dislike of evildoers.
Were there any traumatic experiences in your early years (death of a family member, abandonment, orphaned at an early age, etc.)? When I was 12, my best friend Saarah (the only daughter of my father’s steward and also 12) was raped and murdered in a bandit raid. I was too young to do anything to stop them (and my parents hid me away) and her death and memory stays with me, always. Saarah’s father and mother became my second parents after her death.
Did you have any childhood friends? Yes, but only a trusted few whom I truly called friends. There was the late Saarah Northey and the children of our closest neighbouring rancher, Davin (a few years older than I) and his younger sister, Audra Kale.
Are you still close to them or have you grown apart? Saarah is gone from this world (but her spirit is with me, I can feel her). Davin has moved on (adventurer in his own right) and we haven’t spoken in over three years. Audra and I are still close enough and try and see each other when we can (and when it is safe to).
Which toys from your childhood have you kept? Three wooden horses whittled by my father still grace my window ledge, and an ancient porcelain doll passed down from mother to daughter takes pride of place on my bureau. I do not think I can take the doll with me as I move so she will be returned to my mother for safekeeping but the wooden horses will be safely tucked away in my knapsack. Running my fingers over the smooth wood helps me find balance.
What conflicts might arise from your past? Not a direct conflict per se. I have an unresolved matter with Davin. Before he left home he kissed me and spoke words of love. We never spoke of it at the time, I was young and experienced and he thought I did not care for him. So, he left the next day and has been gone these past three years.
Do you have any sort of criminal record? No, most definitely not.
Family
Who were your parents? My mother’s name is Sadira and my father is Riordan Kane of The River Kingdoms.
Were you raised by them? Yes, they were/are devoted and loving parents. And when I was 12, Steward Northey and his wife unofficially “adopted” me. So I ended up having 2 sets of “parents”. I think I gave comfort to the Northeys after the death of their only daughter and my best friend, Saarah.
What did your parents and/or foster parents do for a living? My father is a rancher, breeding and training horses and my mother is the local healer, growing and preparing herbal medicines for our neighbours and friends. She is also the local midwife.
What was their standing in the community? My father is well respected for his work with horses and his fair and honest trading. His knowledge of horses and his gentle and respectful hand in training has earned him renown inside and outside of the area. My mother is known for her healer’s hands and extensive knowledge of herbal lore and is respected accordingly by the locals (we do not advertise her skill as it can be dangerous for certain outside folk to know how skilled/gifted she truly is).
Did your family stay in one area or move around a lot? My father was somewhat of an adventurer himself when he was younger but once he married and settled down, our family stayed put on our ranch in Artume.
How did you get along with your parents? We have mutual respect and love for one another. At times I’m sure my spirited nature was an annoyance to them as they worked hard at protecting me. But they understood I could only be myself. It is good that we can communicate openly and honestly with each other.
How would your parents describe you? In main they would describe me as generous, compassionate, spirited, loyal, determined, courageous, wise-beyond-my-years and unique.
Are any or all of your family still alive? Yes, both my parents are very much alive.
Personality/Beliefs
Do you, or did you, have any role models? My parents, most certainly are wonderful role models. They taught me what it is to be true to yourself and other people. Their respective skills and respect for nature and its creatures have helped to hone my own character. Growing up, I heard countless stories regaling Irethia Sama’s courage and good deeds and since I was her only Aasimar descendent, I wanted to follow in her footsteps. And then there is Saarah. In her short young life she showed me what it truly means to be open hearted and courageous.
Do you have any great rational or irrational fears or phobias? Claustrophobia. I have never been able to hide or be closed in small, confined spaces, especially for long periods of time. I was never locked into a tight space or anything traumatic like that as punishment etc. It’s just something that has my system feeling ill and all kinds of wrong.
What, if anything, would it take for you to be able to overcome this? A sense of or actual imminent danger may propel me to overcome my aversion to confined spaces.
How do you react when this fear manifests itself? I feel as though I cannot draw a proper breath and my emotions begin to spiral out of control and I lose focus and logic in that moment.
Are you willing to discuss, or even admit to, the situation? With trusted folk, whether family, friends or allies, yes. However, I would keep this information to myself with strangers and those who might use my claustrophobia against me.
What are your attitudes regarding material wealth? To survive in any place, currency is necessary. I do not have to be the richest person in the land but I need to know I have enough resources to survive and/or to aid others. Poverty can be the death of people especially in this current climate.
Are you miserly with your share of the wealth, or do you spend it freely? I budget as much as I can (no one can know what will happen in the future exactly). I am neither a miser nor a spendthrift. If there is need, I am generous enough to share my wealth and do so with no expectation of repayment.
Are you greedy or generous? Generous. And, perhaps with loved ones, I am generous to a fault. But overall I am conscientiousness with what I have.
Do you see wealth as a mark of success, or just as a means to an end? In a perfect world, perhaps it would simply mean a mark of success. But I realise that such perfection does not exist (or is too simplistic of a model) and it may become necessary for wealth to be a means to an end.
How do you generally treat others? Cordially with most people. I was brought up with fine manners and employ them. It would be nice to treat people as we would like to be treated and I do try for the most part. It’s just harder with some, especially those with a proclivity to evil.
Do you trust easily (perhaps too easily) or not? I possess a strong sense of who I can and can’t trust. But even I am not infallible and sometimes I have trusted too readily and regretted it later. Least I learned something valuable to use in the future. I can let my guard way down with those I love when I’m not thinking about it.
Are you introverted (shy and withdrawn) or extroverted (outgoing)? I am somewhere in the middle. Initially shy around strangers and in strange lands, but more comfortable and easy with people once I get to know them and trust them. Then I can be quite the extrovert. Also, my moods and emotions can play a part in whether I am withdrawn or open and outgoing.
Are you a humble soul or blusteringly proud? Humble more so and not quite comfortable with receiving compliments and praise.
I do privately pat myself on the back if I have accomplished something I am proud of, but I never advertise it to all and sundry.
Do you act differently than you feel (concealing your true thoughts)? I am instinctively cautious in my interactions with people. If I had to protect or preserve then I would be less forthcoming and keep things closer to my chest.
What is your favourite type of animal? Having been raised around animals, I am comfortable in their presence and enjoy their company. I feel very close to my wolf pups, Reiki and Terra (their mother was killed by a thoughtless interloper), and my father’s horses, especially my stallion, Tal.
Is there anything that enrages you? Evil. I expressly cannot abide oppression, destruction and imbalance (for eg, lack of fairness and justice make my blood boil).
Do you enjoy "roughing it", or do you prefer your creature comforts? I can adapt well enough and I am not prone to histrionics. Creature comforts are easier but I can manage “roughing it” when needs be.
What would you do if something were stolen from you? It depends on what was taken (and how). If the stolen item were unimportant/trivial then I would probably do nothing. If, however, it had significant, meaningful value to me, I would do all to retrieve it.
What would you do if you were badly insulted publicly? Smile and stare them directly in the eye. If there is greater need than that, my words hold an edge and depth truer than any blade.
What do you consider to be the worst crime someone could commit and why? The rape and/or murder of an innocent child would be classed as the worst crime. Basically, the destruction of any innocent thing would be purely evil.
Do you support the current government of your homeland? No, as the governments in my homeland do not rule wisely or justly and will do anything to keep their hold on power. This provides a gateway to such evil.
What form of government do you believe is the best (democracy, monarchy, anarchy, aristocratic rule, oligarchy, matriarchy) and why? I believe democracy is the best option or the lesser evil. Equality is a hard thing to attain but it at least presents people with a sense of hope and order.
Have you ever been persecuted for your political stance? Fortunately, I have the presence of mind not to openly discuss my political persuasions and therefore have not been persecuted for them.
Do you have any unusual or nervous mannerisms, such as when talking, thinking, afraid, under stress, or when embarrassed? My absolute silence when thoughtful or emotionally wounded makes other people nervous. I also can blush and bite my bottom lip when embarrassed or nervous. The biting is also a ‘thinking’ mannerism as well.
What is your most treasured possession? I have two such treasures, a dagger that once belonged to Irethia Sama, and my beloved horse, Tal.
Do you have a good luck charm? I do not know if it is a particular talisman of note, but I wear a necklace made of leather with a silver filigree leaf.
Do you prefer to tear down or build up? I would do all in my power to build up. It is easier for creatures to tear down things they do not understand or cannot understand.
Are you deliberate or spontaneous? I am more deliberate. I still have rare moments of spontaneity based on certain moods or emotions. But, I like to think things out and work through them properly and with purpose.
Do you prefer the town or the country? Country. I need quiet spaces/places to meditate and regain emotional balance and understanding. Towns, especially larger ones, do not have the luxury of quiet and stillness and privacy.
If made to decide, would you rather be deaf or blind? Why? I would rather be deaf. Sight is important to manoeuvre and move and there are ways to compensate for lack of hearing which is less physically debilitating than lack of sight.
Describe your worst nightmares. Evil is in complete power and all is enslaved to/by it.

Tessara Varial |

Hey ladies and gentlemen. I'm one of the new recruited players as of tonight. Take a look at the profile if you want. Basically she's a ranger that's going to be going arcane archer eventually. I'll get to work on the character survey right now. Oh and depending on what time we start on Sunday I might not be able to post right away because I have a RL game to go to that runs from about 5PM-10(ish usually runs late)PM CST(GMT-5) and then I have an hour commute back home so I won't be home until 11ish and my internet gets turned off at 11...so yeah unless we start before 4ish on Sunday I won't post until Monday morning.

Tessara Varial |

Well I wasn't able to finish but here is part of the survey. I figure it would help some of you to at least start to get to know me. I'll get the rest up tomorrow. Man that thing was long and asked some pretty personal questions.
Character Survey
Where was your character born?
I was raised in Kyonin, the elven homeland
Who raised him/her?
I was raised by my parents, my Desna watch over them today.
What was happening in the region when your character was growing up?
Constant battles between Treerazor and his minons and my people(the elves). I was recruited at the age of 40 to start fighting against him and did so for the next 75 years.
Does your character have any relatives?
Yes but they are all back in Kyonin. Lets see…*starts counting on her fingers* About 30 Aunts and Uncles and 60 cousins. The ages of my aunts and uncles range from about 230 to around 100. And my cousins range from 1 to 150 in age, 35 females 25 males. And I’m sure most miss me dearly as I do them.
Motivation
What are your character’s immediate goals? What would she like to do in the coming year?
I ended up in Bevoy because I became curious about the world outside of Kyonin and wanted to see it for myself and Bevoy was the closes place to start exploring. The war was at a stand still at the moment and the cousins that could fight were drafted so they wouldn’t miss me to much. While I’m not overly impressed with what I’ve seen so far I am bound and determined to find what the humans and other races like about this world. I just don’t get it, no green anywhere except on the ground. What is wrong with the trees…and these buildings…why so many and so big…anyway I’m getting distracted. Right now my immediate goal is to morn the loss of my parents, as they died just a few months ago. *takes the bow from around her* This was dads…apparently it was his wish for me to have it…*starts to cry a little and hugs the bow tightly*
What are her long-term goals?
I want to understand what the other races find so beautiful about this outside alien world. I’ve heard many interesting stories about the lands south of here. The Shackles sounds strictly lawless and I’d eventually like to see it for my self, though I need to get used to being around others first. I also would like to have a family of my own. Seeing my cousins being born lit my maternal instinct but I’d have to find someone I love first and I’m far to busy for love at the moment. Besides a person can’t love with a hole in their heart and its going to take a while for the one in mine to heal.
What type of person would be her ideal mate?
What kind of question is this. *Glares at you* Are you trying to get in my pants, I know how you others get…*takes a deep breath* I guess my ideal mate would be someone who is tall, muscular, but intelligent. I don’t like doppy brutes that don’t have the ability to see past their fists or what ever sharp implement is in their hands. I’ve never been in love so this is kind of hard to figure out.
Who is her patron deity? Is she a devout worshiper?
I worship Desna and while I’m not the most devout I’ve rededicated my life to her teachings since dad died.
Is she a devout member of any nonreligious cause?
Other than the war against Treerazor and his evil minions no.
Is there any race, creed, alignment, religion or the like against which she is strongly prejudiced?
Not really, I generally accept all beings.
What is her greatest fear?
Uh that’s a hard one…it used to be being alone though I’ve gotten used to it now. Funny how alone one can feel in a big city. I guess right now it would be being by my self after dark on some of the streets in Bevoy. Those humans get grabby around girls of my build…though that’s what knees are for.
What is the one task she absolutely refuses to do?
Anything those foolish and sometimes depraved “priests” of Calistria do. And to think they call it worship.
Idiosyncrasies
Hmm I don’t know I’d have to think about it *twirls her hair around her finger*
What is your character’s motto or favorite saying?
Life is what you make it, so make it worth living.
What is her favorite color?
Hmm…powder blue…no green like the leaves on a nice spring day…no white like fathers hair…no….
Describe what she would wear if money were no object?
Why is this obsession outsiders have with clothing. It only hinders and is uncomfortable and hot. I only wear it because I fear what would be done to me if I didn’t.
What is her favorite food? Drink?
I like most anything when it comes to food but nothing beats a good cup of elven green tea. Some of our celebratory ales are good to but those are for only special occations.
What is her favorite animal?
Hmm…I like all animals…but if I had to pick one I’d have to say cats.
What habits of her friends annoy her most?
Well I had this one friend who insisted on sharpening his sword after every battle…half the time he never took it out. Very frustrating and useless seeing how it was like new.

Description:
Tabak stands about 6'8", with his ultra dense form weighing an astonishing 350 pounds. He looks much like a man in his late thirties or early forties, with dark salt and pepper hair. However this veneer is ruined when it is realized that all of it seems to be carved of plastic. The hair never moves, And his clothes and armor move purely with his movements instead of any outside motivation. Tabak acts like a father figure to Leto, speaking as a more wise, older man.

Leto is a curious kid, taking a lot of random items and incorporating them into his wardrobe. He has green snakeskin boots, red leather gloves and his sensible brown leather armor is covered in small gems, ribbons and swatches of cloth he enjoys. Physically he is slight and pale, with huge green eyes framed by his flowing brown hair, which he mostly pulls back in a ponytail. His face is most often split into a wide grin, whether of triumph, mirth, curiousity or knowledge. He is very open and punctuates most movements with large arm gestures and huge animated dialogues.
Duke Darren Orlovsky and his wife Anna were a happy couple, who ruled a small duchy and were mostly at peace with thier lives, until they attempted to have a child. For whatever reason, they could not. This made them extremely sad, and they combed the land for anyone who could turn away this curse and give them an heir.
Many answered the call, priests and wizards, charlatans and alchemists, but none could turn the couple fertile. Eventually a new man came to the Keep, an elven bard with no name. He told the couple that, for the right price, he could give them a child. The excited couple gave the Bard all he asked for, money, jewels, women and more. He, in turn, took the Lady Anna into the forests around the Keep, and was never seen again. The Lady returned cold, pale and terified, babbling incoherently until she lost consciousness. Upon awaking she remembered nothing of the incident, but soon thereafter grew heavy with child. The Duke was delighted, until the child was born.
The baby was healthy and happy, but was born with huge elven eyes and the pointy fey ears that were common to half-elves. Immediately the Duke was furious. How could his wife have a child with an elven stranger? He gave his wife a choice. Keep the baby and take care of it in squalor, or give up the child and remain at his side.
Anna had only married the Duke in order to gain a noble name, and the comforts that came with it, so the choice was an easy one, but Anna made one stipulation. Little Leto would always have a guardian to care for him. The Duke assigned one of his guardsmen to the task.
And so things were until Leto was sixteen years old, when the Duke became fed up. A true heir, Steven, had just been born and the expense of keeping his bastard son protected was vast, and he wasn't willing to do it anymore. He called the court wizard, Roland and asked him to find a solution. Roland was a crafty man, and while he liked the boy, he knew that even with the young half-elf's small natural ability with magic, teaching him wizardry would take many years and be very difficult. So instead Roland came up with a clever plan. He taught Leto a simple ritual, to call his own protector.
Leto summoned a creature he began to call Tabak, who took a form curiously similar to that of his previous guardian, a large man in heavy armor with a huge blade. As an unexpected side effect, the symbol of the house of Orlovsky appeared on his cheek, and the eidolon's chest, when he summoned it.
To Darren this was the last straw, his bastard son openly claiming the Orlovsky name when his true heir was born could be a major problem for him, particularly when the young boy was so charming and had so many friends among the palace staff and guardsmen. Looking and seeing the possibility of civil war in his own duchy, the Duke decided that since his son was now protected, he could easily get him gone. His son was soon given a charter to explore the Stolen Lands.
Leto had little choice, he did not want to cause any problems for his new half-brother, and besides, this place would never be his true home. Leto left, saying goodbye to Roland and his mother, and all of his friends in the keep, and set out toward the Stolen Lands with the others who had received a charter.
Where was your character born? Eyrie Keep, ancestral home of the Orlovsky family. Leto has lived more of his life in the surrounding city of Chyormoz.
Who raised him? Mostly Guardsman Padan, who was assigned to guard him. He also had many visits from his mother and knew her well. Later in life Roland, the court Wizard had more input as well
What was happening in the region when your character was growing up? The standard feuding of the families in Brevoy, though much of it was over Leto's head.
Does your character have any relatives? The Orlovsky family, though as a bastard he has little in the way of contact or legitimacy with them.
Motivation
What are your character’s immediate goals? What would he like to do in the coming year? Establish a niche for himself. Leto had fun in the Eyrie and enjoyed his friends there, but ugly looks from his father and problems with legitimacy has kept him from finding any sort of very close friend until Tabak was called.
What are her long-term goals? To establish his own legitimacy, or possibly begin his own noble house. More importantly, to convince his previous family that he has no designs on taking anything from his half-brother Steven.
What type of person would be his ideal mate? Leto has so far had very little in the way of thoughts about the opposite sex, though that's likely to change within the first year or two.
Who is his patron deity? Is he a devout worshiper? Desna, and Leto knows little of the church, but the god's goodness and chaotic nature are similar to his. He believes the bard from his tale may be a servant or creature of hers, though he fears the answer may be darker.
Is he a devout member of any nonreligious cause? Not particularly
Is there any race, creed, alignment, religion or the like against which he is strongly prejudiced? Leto wishes very much to get in touch with his elven half, which is difficult in Brevoy. He also has only heard stories of many other races and believes half-orcs to be brutes and scoundrels.
What is his greatest fear? That, driven by his worries and groundless fears, his father might believe he needs to die, and directly or indirectly be involved in such a death.
What is the one task he absolutely refuses to do? Kill or enslave an innocent creature. He would rather die.
Idiosyncrasies
What is your character’s motto or favorite saying? Leto is often heard whispering his family motto "High Above" though generally under his breath to avoid anyone connecting him to a name he has no true right to.
What is his favorite color? Deep blue
Describe what he would wear if money were no object? Likely an odd hodgepodge. Leto has very little fashion sense, though his outfits tend to look rather good on him regardless.
What is his favorite food? Drink? Leto loves oysters, he used to sneak them from the table in the Eyrie. He also enjoys elven wine, which he's only had once.
What is his favorite animal? He once had a cat, and he'd like another. Though he has heard of these weird creatures called Carbuncles.
What habits of his friends annoy him most? He hates drunks, as well as those who are uncaring when someone or something is hurt. Anything else will have to find when he meets them

How do you feel about other races? Most looked at with wonder, especially elves, slight disdain for Half-orcs.

How would your parents describe you? Father as a disgrace and possibly a danger. Mother as a boy she loved and wishes she could keep closer, but is proud of anyway.
Are any or all of your family still alive? Most all
Personality/Beliefs
Do you, or did you, have any role models? Many. From the staff Leto learned to fight, do magic and tell a story. From his father he learned the iron rod of command, and how to be a leader. From his mother he learned the nicer sides of leadership, from banquets to diplomacy.
Do you have any great rational or irrational fears or phobias? Leto is terrified he is the spawn of some kind of Demon or Devil. He also hates frogs. Creepy slimy little things.
What, if anything, would it take for you to be able to overcome this? To learn the truth. And nothing for frogs... damn things are so ugly.
How do you react when this fear manifests itself? With disgust and extremely not wanting to touch them.
Are you willing to discuss, or even admit to, the situation? Very reluctant about frogs. Never discusses his fears regarding his heritage.
What are your attitudes regarding material wealth? Extremely useful, but not a goal in itself.
Are you miserly with your share of the wealth, or do you spend it freely? Very freely... money burns a hole in his pocket.
Are you greedy or generous? Rather generous, he enjoys being liked.
Do you see wealth as a mark of success, or just as a means to an end? Means to an end. Though what end isn't set in stone yet.
How do you generally treat others? Cheeky, but overall extremely nice and caring.
Do you trust easily (perhaps too easily) or not? Extremely easily
Are you introverted (shy and withdrawn) or extroverted (outgoing)? Introverted among members of nobility, though he is extremely happy to mingle with others.
Are you a humble soul or blusteringly proud? Leto tells of his exploits whenever he can, with varying degrees of exaggeration.
Do you act differently than you feel (concealing your true thoughts)? Leto does not do this often.
What is your favourite type of animal? Cats... cute and fierce.
Is there anything that enrages you? Mistreatment of those in your protection. A leader exists to protect his people, whether it be a husband, a father, a general or a king.
Do you enjoy "roughing it", or do you prefer your creature comforts? Roughing it is currently an interesting new thing for him, once the charm wears off he's unlikely to enjoy it as much.
What would you do if something were stolen from you? Depending on it's personal value. High personal value I would find and get it back, punishing the thief if I believed he deserved it. Low personal value, Leto would shake it off and deal with it... it's a shame but nothing that can't be replaced.
What would you do if you were badly insulted publicly? Likely come back with something witty and cutting to tear down my assailant.
What do you consider to be the worst crime someone could commit and why? As stated, mistreatment of those who depend on you.
Do you support the current government of your homeland? Leto would prefer it to be a bit more stable.
What form of government do you believe is the best (democracy, monarchy, anarchy, aristocratic rule, oligarchy, matriarchy) and why? Leto believes in the aristocracy from habit, would likely want a democracy if he were ever forced to think on it.
Have you ever been persecuted for your political stance? Leto has never had much of a stance so no.
Do you have any unusual or nervous mannerisms, such as when talking, thinking, afraid, under stress, or when embarrassed? Leto tends to pace, especially when nervous or explaining something. He unconsciously mimics Roland the wizard and falls into textbook dry speaking when he is reciting things he has learned. He often rubs his mark when he's thinking of his eidolon or his family.
What is your most treasured possession? A scrap of painting, stolen from a rubbish bin. The painter had captured the banquet in which his elven father had showed himself. Even when the Duke bought and destroyed the painting Leto treasures this scrap that shows half of his true fathers face.
Do you have a good luck charm? The family words seem to be lucky for Leto
Do you prefer to tear down or build up? Most certainly build up.
Are you deliberate or spontaneous? Youthfully spontaneous. Sometimes foolishly so.
Do you prefer the town or the country? Cities. That's where you find the people.
If made to decide, would you rather be deaf or blind? Why? Blind. Your eyes may decieve you, but a true man knows the secret is in listening to others, not seeing them. He learned that from Guardsman Padan.
Describe your worst nightmares. Leto has a recurring nightmare in which his father pronounces him a threat to young Steven and runs him through with the family blade. Duke Darren then turns into Leto's elven father and laughs, telling Leto that his brothers are waiting for him and dropping the boys now run-through body to be eaten by demons.

I've made some serious headway on my character including his backstory see the link below. I ran out of inspiration on the last part of the history, but I'll finish it out as the muses allow.
I'm not going to have time to finish the Survey, but I'll get it sunday.

Hmm... interesting. However, two quick things;
1. I believe your stats are a bit off. Despite typical rules giving players "25" points, you should have started with "28" points. This is slightly higher, which should have affected your build.
2. I had finished recruiting for this site via another site. The players are currently locked in and decided on. I am not so worried about the Classes/Concepts, but I wanted to make sure the players who were interested in gaming and showed me material on the other site get first "dibs", if you will. In an effort to be be fair to the people I have already agreed to play, could you please let me know what your avaatar was on the previous board? I so far have Leto and Tessera, of the other players I was approached by a character named "VonGoada" and one named Ryuko. Please let me know who you are, in that capacity.
If you are a new player, I believe the positions are currenlty filled. However, if I don't here back from people that I recognize by Sunday, I will happily move you into rotation (this assumes that you aren't the same person as mentioned above with another avatar).
Okay, that's it. If you're one of the pre-agreed players, then just adjust yoru stats. If not, let me know, and we may have something for you in a day or so if I don't hear back from the others.
Thanks!

This is Ryuko btw, just in case you didn't catch it. Just wanting to verify and be certain. I'm up and ready to play whenever we begin.

From what I can see, Gideon Samus Shaw is Tiny Coffee Golem, a new recruit you enlisted in your recruitment commentary thread.

Leto North |

He is indeed. Dain, I'll be heading to bed for tonight, but I felt the need to point out... me and the other new recruits don't have our specialty item yet. I for one am extremely curious/excited. Just something we should get taken care of before we get to playing tomorrow night.

Ariarh Kane |

Hi, pre-existing and new recruits. I have read that we're supposed to start sometime tomorrow. Since I am currently in a different time zone, I'm wondering if the GM, or anyone for that matter, can fill me in so I can work out what time it will be for me. Plus, it is a long weekend here currently and I may need to visit my sick nephew who is in hospital, tomorrow. Thanks, A.K.

Gideon Samus Shaw |

I am tiny coffee golem. I was the guy talking about the Jedi concept (Gideon) or the fire/air cleric. The Jedi concept was chosen. Ill fix the point buy issue. I thought it was 25. Also, even though all the main points are finished I'll refine the character sheet early next week when time permits. I just had a lot of responsibilities this weekend. But I always have a lot of time to post usually.
I like the skype idea. I'm totally open to that and I've already got an account.

Tessara Varial |

Hey guys just checking in. Sorry I didn't get my survey done yesterday was busy with stuff and I don't have time to get it up today, but what I've posted should give you a pretty good clue as to what I'm all about. I'll have it up on monday for sure just for completeness(I'm a mathematition at heart, we're all about completeness).
As far as combats are concerned I'm open to doing them on Skype, I have an account already and for those that don't its free to set one up.
If we end up starting today I'm not sure I'll be able to post(depends on timing) because my mom decided that today was a good day for her to come over and help me tame the marsh growing in my backyard and then I have a homebrew game tonight. Oh and just a heads up I've got my last Managerial Finance class tomorrow(yay) so I won't be around tomorrow night(CST).
Just to make planning easier what Time Zones are everyone in? I'm in Central Standard(yay Chicago)

Dain GM |

Been busy myself this weekend. Okay, I need to go to work. Signature items will come sometime this evening, perhaps even ret-con to story. When I get back I will post the first "chapter" of the story and we go from there. To answer Ry's question, a play-by-post allows players to post as soon as possible, but there is no locked time schedule. Talk to you soon...

Dain GM |

Huzzah! Gang seems to be all here. Okay, here's what we are going to do. I just spent the past hour or so writing out "signature" items for the new guys. Bearing in mind they are story elements, not just items.
I ask you to read them over and forward on any questions, after this, I need to get some dinner, then we can start in about an hour (or 7:00 PM eastern standard time). Rather, that is when you will get your first post, and we can go from there.
Next, combat on Skype or Im seems pretty good. The only glitch is that (from time to time) will want to forward you Battle Maps for ease of combat. Is everyone okay with giving out an email adress for such things? I am, and if you wouldn't mind emailing me a "complete" character sheet for my records, that would help me SO much!
My email is dain120475@aol.com
Also, was anyone NOT eager to do IM,SKYPE or some other version of action for combat? Remember, that combat will generally only happen once a week for the bigger grittier stuff, and not unless everyone can make it. So we set up a time, and a date, and go from there. But I want to make sure we're all on board for it, so let me know if there is a problem.
Okay, in a moment you will see your "signature" items. They are each meant for each player only, but you can look if you want.

Item for Gideon
Signature Item or Gideon
The night was strangely cold, and dark, when you returned to temple. Ascending the high stairs to the Holy of Holies you feel a sense of unusual foreboding. Even as you reach the top step the sudden appearance of a young acolyte startles you.
“Sir, sir,” he says in a breathless voice “come quick; our master is dying, and he is asking for you!”
You give the lad hardly a glance as you quickly rush up the stairs and burst into the room of your master, who is even now attended to by a covey of healers and physicians. On seeing you his fevered eyes light up, and he gruffly and angrily waves the others away, summoning you to his bed.
“Out, out,” he rasps as the last healer lingers by the door for any other order or request. When you are alone, he beckons to you with a racking cough and feeble wave of his hand. Only his eyes are clear and focused.
“You have come, almost too late… but no matter,” he adds with a thick cough.
“My time it is near completion, and soon I shall pass this realm into the next plane. My flesh is near destroyed, but not my spirit, for I deem that on any plane it may yet have the power to govern and guide you.”
He beckons to you, and you lean in; his voice raspy and weak, but he stretches out his thin hand clutches at your tunic, dragging you too him, inches from his face.
“There are those who may have promised weapons of high renown to their disciples, others still may have offered a tomb of wonder or spells of great power. I offer neither, for they are things that may be robbed or stolen. What I have instead I give to you to take, and blessing or curse, it shall guide you!”
Suddenly he lifts an unnoticed dagger from his chest, and makes a fast cut on your exposed chest. It does not hurt, only stinging slightly, and a trickle of blood is evident. He smiles grimly.
“Good,” and turns the dagger on his own body. Before you realize what he is about he has already made a deep cut into his weak chest, which have pierced his lungs. He lets out a choke and a gasp, and bloods froths at his lips.
Horrified, you reach forward to remove the dagger even as you lean over him, and try to staunch the wound and this madness even as you call for help. He seems to expect your action, and is even pleased by it.
He wipes a smear of blood from his chest and mingles it with the blood on your chest. Even now, your chest feels a stab of fire and you stumble back from him, he calls a single word to you before he starts to cackle madly. At this time the healers have already returned and rush to his side, attempting to do what they can to amend the wound. You stagger backwards, shaking your head at what you were privy to, even as the cut on your body burns with a fire. You wipe away the blood to staunch the wound, seeming to ignore the presence of the other folk in the chamber, only to notice that the cut he had opened is sealed, as if it had never been made.
You shake your head, and stumble from the room, rushing down the hallways to the exit of the temple. Thunder booms outside, and you hear the thudding of rain on the tiled roof as you break from the main doorway. There is a pain in your scalp and a suffering you feel, though you cannot define it, for you have never felt the like before. You fall to your knees and stare at your bloody hands, the rain from the sky washing away the carmine, but not the final word of your master.
“Remember!” he said, and though you doubt you will forget the last moments you shared with him; something tells you there will be more to come.
-- Description of “Item”
You are now bonded with master’s blood. As he is in you, so you have his power in you. This has no granted you the ability to use specific powers above and beyond that of Magus.
You are currently infused with the power of your Master. This “Master’s Power”, or MP, is equal to your total Willpower. For every Power you choose to use, there is a cost of MP. Your CMB is the same, except your replace your “Strength Modifier” with your “Intelligence” modifier. This functions in all other ways like Bull Rush, except using it does not provoke an attack of opportunity.
1 Point – Great Leap: As a free action you may declare you wish to use your “great leap”. This allows you make a Jump check with your use Intelligence modifier instead of Strength. Further, you gain a +5 to all Jump checks when using “Great Leap”. This effect lasts 1 Round.

1 Point – Commune: You may expend one point to ask your master a question. This functions as an Augury spell, of equal caster level to your Magus level.
Running out of MP: When your last MP is expelled, you are considered “Fatigued” until you have rested.

Signature Item for Tessara Varial
The oak grove was so peaceful, and so quiet. Tessara had walked a long way to this spot, knowing she would find something of great interest, for she had been summoned by a friend who wished to meet her.
When she arrived she saw standing a naked crown of a hill a lone figure, robed in silver-like robes which seemed to shimmer in the starlight. The robed figure turned around, and Tessara was treated to the sight of ancient elven male who leaned comfortably on an ash staff. He inclined his head to hear, and gestured that she come to the height of the hill, which she did; quickly.
This was Eldain Gil-Alies; not only a protester of the grove, but also a stargazer, and some said a prophet. When Tessara had reached him, he said nothing but examined for a moment; his eyes having an eerie metallic-like quality and looked like swimming mercury.
“Greetings, little sister,” he said, speaking in a rich melodic voice.
“And to you, brother,” she returned, the courtesy of treating all living creatures as blood kin seeming appropriate.
He turned back to the sky and said nothing for a while as she waited, until she eventually looked to the heavens with him, watching the stars. He continued to stare for a long time, saying nothing, and she wondered when he would speak.
“There,” he said at last, letting out a long sigh. “I have seen what I wished, and so too you may look, for the heavens belong to no mortal, though can be read by any with the wit or knowledge that the gods deem fit.”
She looked at the sky, and saw nothing in particular, except the gentle beauty of the heavens, and the shimmering light of the moon.
“The summer is near ending, and so we see now a hunter’s moon shining in the sky; the stars are aligned, and their dance can not be misunderstood. We see now the light of Aervui, and the arrow of Felembia; for they salute each other, the lady of Peace with the arrow of Victory. Yet there is the crux of it, for they dance their steps o’er the Moon of the Hunt. Therefore I say to thee; Behold! We shall see great deeds and battle, but in the end, the triumph of righteousness, for through courage comes strength, and the power to use it for great things. Yet only by daring great things shall a true Victory be won.”
His eyes had become cloudy, or perhaps more so then before. She looked at him, a look of confusion on her face, for he let out a deep gasp, then wiped his skin as though the words he spoke had strained him.
“A long time I have waited for this moment; yes, a long time. Therefore, for you, I have prepared: this.”
He removed from his robe a thin rod, no longer then a foot in length. In the center of the rod was a strange carving that looked like the grip of a weapon. The rod itself was smooth and cool to the touch, and it shown with a soft, silver light. She took it gently and examined its sides, and noticed the ancient Runes of her people inscribed upon it, but the writing was archaic, and she could only discern the demarcation “Moon Warrior”, or some variance of it.
“What is this made of, for it is light, yet sturdy, and I do not feel metal in it,” she queried.
“It is fashioned from stone, yet stone not of this world. Who can say where it truly came from, but I know that it has fallen to our world, and been fashioned for one such as you to embrace.”
He turned it back and forth, examining it.
“Now,” he said, speaking in a bold voice, “stand, speak thee then the word of command, the ancient language deems the name of the goddess of the moon is “Seleen”. Speak then the word, and witness the power!”
Hesitantly she spoke the word, and suddenly the rod expanded; longer and longer as if it was a full sized staff, but curved, like an unstrung bow. Even now her hand gripped the etching that seemed best described now as a grip for the hand of an archer. The stone bow shimmered with the silver light, yet still there was no string.
“Take little concern for what your senses see, or do not see; pull, as if thee would loose an arrow!”
She placed her fingers where the bowstring should have been, and instantly a gossamer thread of silver light shone out, with a strung arrow of silver light, gripped in her fingers. She sited it down the bow, than released it. The distance was far indeed, and the light shone from the arrow as it traveled. When it hit its target it vanished, but even then, as she reached her hand out, another arrow appeared. She fired it again, then spoke the word of command, and the bow instantly receded into the narrow rod.
“The gift is given, it is well received. Take it forth to victory,” he said.
-- Stats for the Moon Bow
As long as the Moon Bow remains in the “rod” form it takes up a space no larger then a dagger. Its weight is 1 pound in this shape.
When the command word is spoken the rod expands to full length as a free action. It is five feet in height and now weighs five pounds to hold.
Basic Statistics
Moon Bow
Damage 1d10
Critical 19-20x2
Range 100 feet
Weight 5 lbs
Type Piercing/Energy
Special The Moon Bow is considered a +1 Weapon, for now (base of +1 to hit and damage), though its powers may increase with the strength of heart of the user. Only the user is proficient with it.

Item for Leto
Signature Item for Leto
The night was hot, though peaceful, and sleep far your mind. Instead, tossing and turning in the sweat-soaked sheets was all you could do, eager for the sleep that just wouldn’t come. Finally, letting out a frustrated sigh, you crawled out of bed and decide to take a brief walk, it seems just the thing; get a bit of fresh air, distract yourself from “trying” to sleep, and just keep trying to relax.
As you move from the low door of the inn to the outside you let out a deep sigh and stretch your arms in the air. A sudden jerk to your hip startles you, and let out a sharp intake of breath, looking around.
Nothing… how odd.
Well, in any case, perhaps that walk would be… another jerk on your arm, as if someone was grabbing you. Turning swiftly you swing out a fist, but it swishes through the air, touching nothing.
“By the gods…”
A final jerk and the land in front of you swims in strange colors and patterns. You open your mouth to scream, yet cannot get anything into your lungs. You feel choked, stifled, and extremely disoriented. You suddenly shake your head in confusion, and look around you.
You are in a completely dark room, aware that you are standing on something, but you cannot see anything. Yet, is it dark? There seems to be LITERALLY nothing there, complete emptiness you might say, except that you can see YOURSELF. Nothing as far as your eye can see, even the ground looks exactly the same as the sky and the horizon. But you can see yourself.
“He doesn’t seem very bright to me.”
“Yes, well, it is his first time.”
“Still, you’d think he be somewhat more astute, or at least aware of what was happening.”
“No doubt he guesses, but then, he may not yet be sure.”
There four speakers each had a distinct sounding voice, one whimsical and flighty, one voice sounded chaotic and its words rose and fell. A third sounded like snapping and hissing, and the last sounded deep and dark.
“Where, where am I?” you ask in confusion.
“You see, not so clever after all.”
“Still, it is a new experience for him.”
“Not so new as to us, yet I did better then he on my first journey.”
“Be still, for don’t judge him yet; he is after all only Mortal.”
“Who ARE you,” you call out, and suddenly your eyes are treated to the appearance of four great creatures staring down at you. They have come, as if instantly, and regard you. One of them has red face and fiery eyes; one a gray and ghostly face, and its eyes are silver and shimmer; one is colored pine green, though ever changing and melds to black or deep blue, and his eyes drip frothy tears, and froth spills from his lips; and the final looks like a man carved from solid stone.
“Now let’s see if he guesses,” says the ghostly one.
“Only a fool could not guess,” said the watery one.
“He may yet BE a fool,” said the fiery one.
“Or he may yet be guessing our nature,” the stoic one said quietly.
“Are you, are you gods?” you ask, tentatively.
“Gods, he asks?” said the watery one.
“Thinks we’re so young as that,” said the airy one.
“Doesn’t know who came first, this one,” the fiery one.
“We are not gods,” the stoic one said. “We are the four with which the elements have been born from. And we have called you here for a purpose.”
“And that is?” you ask. “And be silent! I would speak only with the one who has courtesy.”
All of them laughed, even the stoic smiled somewhat.
“Very well; for it is in your blood to have great power. It is written in your ability to summon beings from other worlds, even other planes of power. Yet what are those planes without our existence to shape them? Nevertheless,” he added forestalling any question “we see before you a great quest, and so whish to grant you our aid. You are indeed one born to summon; yet be known to you we shall awaken in you our blood as well. Take then the power of our bloodline as your own, and let it mingle with the strength you do possesses already to great and wonderful things.”
A trembling rushes through your body, and you shake, and shiver. One moment feeling your muscles lock so tight you cannot move. One moment you feel as if you collapse into a gel-like mess. One moment your body is bathed in sweat, the next moment you feel as if you are burning up.
When you awake you are in your bed, fully rested, and feel a strange wonder at that odd dream you had. Yet as you stand up and throw some cold water on your face you feel a sense of relief. Yet you look into the mirror before you, and see now that your eyes shimmer in color; from blue, to red, to brown and gray. Back and forth, and at random, and you realize now that the dream was reality.
In game power dynamic.
Though you are a summoner with all powers they gain, you have recently discovered your bloodline has been awakened. You now possess the Bloodline of an Elemental.
This functions in all way as a Sorcerer with Bloodline: Elemental, including bonus feats and spells. However, at the start of each day you may choose what Element you are aligned to for the purpose of powers and casting. This choice cannot be changed until the start of a new day. Your “caster level” is equal to your Summoner Level.
Further, you are now fluent in: Auran, Aquan, Ignan and Terran

Wow... I am rather pleased with this. Good hook for backstory too. I'll say right off that I have no idea what you're planning to do with my story, I intentionally put in several hooks for you, and am glad to see an awesome use to them. I guess I'll go put that in my char sheet and such.
Also, my email is ryuko_kun@yahoo.com
EDIT: While I rather enjoy my item and it's backstory, I think it may be simpler not to include bonus feats in it. It would require a significant reworking of my character every day, and make me even more powerful than seems from the other characters, basically granting me most of the sorcerer class features. Would it be all right if I only got powers and bonus spells? Just attempting to simplify a bit, I don't want 4 character sheets.
EDIT 2: I made an OOC thread to discuss the game here. Thought it might be a good idea, feel free to post.

There is a damp rain; it is cold and unhappy. You eagerly press on, for the plains you are traveling over are soggy and marshy. There is nothing inviting about them, and you would just assume be in a warm, dry place.
Even as these thoughts trickle through your subconscious you see over the next ridge smoky plumes from several chimney’s behind a well stocked and well tended palisade. At each of the four corners of the palisade is a short, squat tower nearly two stories in height. A creaky well-worn ballista sits upon the towers, giving it a somewhat imposing look. Yet for all the effort, you sense there is nothing too dramatic about the towers, or too spectacular. The road is barely a muddy track in the grass, there is no real house or home nearby, or cottage that a patron would travel from to this place. In short, it is a lone garrison in the wild, with nothing to offer but the chance for a reward and promise of something greater.
Arriving at the gate, you see a large arch with a heavy wooden door that is barred from the inside (so you guess after a few pushes avail nothing). You see a long cord that reaches to a bell, and shrugging, you tug on the cord and hear the bell clang, waiting for what happens next.

Dain GM |

The delay seems almost unnacptable... You are cold, wet and unwelcome. Finally, after what seems like a long time you hear the damp "thlump" of someone walking through thick mud, and after some creaking and popping you hear the bar being moved.
The door opens slowly and a fat man wearing a soaked leather hood and cloak looks up at you, appraising you for some sort of threat.
"Well, well master, bit of a nasty one, I'll allow," he grumbles as if he wants to blames osomeone on the weather, but is not sure who.
"Come in, come in, make yourself at home then."
He leads you in to a muddy courtyard and tacks over to a large covered fire pit, which is smoking, but no one is around it. You hear the sound of somewhat boistrous noise comming from inside what looks like large, if unimaginative, house. You see in the stable a sturdy pony, chomping on a feed bag, and follow the man inside this house to see a large smiling woman laughing and clapping at what must have been a terrific joke. The only other "patron" in the house is a halfling cook, wearing a long apron over rough clothes. He favors you with a big grin and welcome's you to "Oleg's House", and gives a deep and melodramatic bow, which draws a scowl from Oleg and another laugh from the woman.

imimrtl |

"Thank you for your gracious welcome," Alaric says with only a slight hint of sarcasm. "I presume you are Oleg," he says with a slight inclination of the head, "and you my lady, must be...Oleg's daughter?" Alaric grins in a most enchanting way as he takes her hand and bows over it, placing a gentle kiss upon it. He is extremely good looking and he knows it. "Truly the gods must have blessed you Oleg to have such a fine woman with you.' At this he turns to the Halfling, "And you my good sir, who might you be?"

Ariarh Kane |

"Damn rain." It had only gotten worse and the little griffon was unsettled and pouting beneath her cloak. Least he had a little shelter unlike her. Tal, on the otherhand, seemed to be enjoying the wash.
"Hello!" Ariarh raised her voice over the din of rain and her griffon's fussing chirps and unhappy hissing. "Quiet down, Dior." She was still getting used to the little fellow's sensitive feelings. "Stop pouting."
She suspected that her own face held quite the pout or scowl at being made to wait like this. Patience was not one of her great virtues, especially when cold and wet. Ariarh tugged the cord again and the bell rang louder this time. She smiled to herself at the general impoliteness of the gesture.

Brett Rowan |

"Why," the halfling responds "I might be a great lot of things! Oleg's cook, or perhaps the first prize pie eater TWO years in a row, mind you; perhaps you might call me a rogue, a scoundrel, a... dare I say it?... Ne'er do well! I may add that I am a Sword Scion to the Duke Eriq Esserian, and a slayer of Chelish scum, tamer of sturdy ponies and sturdier lasses, and one who can put down a pint or a goblin with equal ease!"
He laughed long and merily at his joke, which seems to be somewhat infectuous.
"But, as we haven't the time to say what you MIGHT call me, I'll sum up and say what I call myself; Brett! And, for that matter, you look fair drenched. Are you mounted, your horse tended to, or did you walk," I add, my bustling speach not permitting much time to answer, but even before the words get in edgewise, I hurry over with a tall pint of something hot.
"In either case, drink up; it's a special home brew, it'll do you right as rain... if you'll pardon the expression," I add with another laugh.
The mug is steaming and smelling of apples, cloves, and something else. If it is tasted you enjoy the feeling of warmed spiced cider, hot and with an alcoholic tang. It is extremely well flavored, as if prepared by a master chef, and quite refreshing in the cold weather.

"Gods damn it," the scowling Oleg muttered, "another one? I just got back in from that mess!"
Muttering and huffing Oleg stepped out across the rain and eventually opened the heavy barred gate and stepped back a pace at the lovliness that greated him.
"Wel-welcome mistress," he said in surprise. "Come in, come in, a ruffianly day out, to be sure. You'll be wanting drink, I'd think, and maybe more," he adds as she follows him in.
"There's food and fire in my, er... the building over there," he says gesturing to squat square building. "And I'll tend to your horse now, if you'd like," he adds with a clumsy bow even as he waves you toward the small building. You can hear laughter and see warm lights within; it feels friendlier already.

The sullen thoughts and "cloudy" demeanor that Alaric had entertained upon his arrival vanished in a moment at the halfling's mirth and pleasant attitude. The hot spiced cider he was especially thankful for. "Thank you very much, Brett. I am Alaric Winter of Irondale. Oleg took my horse on the way in and has stabled him by now I am sure. I..." Alaric stops midsentence as the beautiful woman walks in. He stares for a moment and then resumes with "am here following the charter I was given in Restov to help see these lands pacified."

Leto North |

Leto walks with a smile on his face through the dark rain. This is so different from the rain back home. There it just falls in those tiny showers, but here. "It's like I'm standing under a bucket." The half-elf says, his eyes bright blue. "I've never even seen a land like this. Look at those hills, the swamps over there. Do you think they have crocodiles?" He raises his head to look at the figure beside him, who sinks into the mud with each ponderous step. "Not likely little one. Most of this area would be more alligator country." Tabak the guardian says, his voice ponderous and slow as his footsteps.
Leto's eyes light up and the rain seems to sluice off him in an unnatural instant. "Alligators? How is that different? Are they bigger? Longer? Smarter?" He continued to discuss the various merits of alligators and crocodiles with Tabak all the way to the gate.
Well this is inviting... Leto thought with a tiny frown, but he didn't let it get him down for too long. Pulling his long and vibrant scarf higher around his neck he chirped, "Hullo there!!" vibrantly over the storm as he pulled the bell. "I've got coin and it'd be nice to dry off a bit."

"Thank you, Good Sir." Ry remembered her manners. She also gave Oleg one of her brightest smiles (she felt guilty for ringing the bell loudly before). She walked toward the directed building and the warmth began enticing her to draw ever closer. Her griffon was beginning to make more contented purring sounds. The banter and laughter up ahead were getting louder and she paid note to each voice that drifted her way.
Ry moved toward the fire, hands outstretched, griffon still tucked away 'neath her dripping cloak. She noted that he had stopped his purrs and was clever enough to remain silent amongst these strangers. It was good to be wary and observant.
The atmosphere seemed friendly enough and she realised she hadn't introduced herself and that it might appear as a certain kind of rudeness to her hosts.
"Hello. My name is Ariarh. I thank you for your hospitality. This fire is surely wonderful." Ry drew back her hood and shook out her damp, mussed hair. It felt good leaving it free and it drew another smile to her face, a real smile this time. A sigh almost escaped her lips -- almost -- she caught herself just in time. She looked up and saw them watching her, so she waited with a well-composed face. She wasn't always at ease among the company of strangers. And, she wasn't wanting these folk to know this about her.

Even as you enter the room you are greated by a warm covey of people huddled in a small room. You notice you are not in a "tavern" but more of a large "house". This seems to be a sitting room, and there is a large group of people around you. A tall handsome man wearing robes is greeting you with a warm smile even as you turn to a bump and see the arrival of ANOTHER young man stepping from out of the rain.
It's suddenly very crowded in here, but before you can squeeze another person in to it, you hear a loud and impataint *sqawk* and Dior pokes his head out from your cloak to stare at the others with an imperious gaze which might have been intimidating if hadn't been on the face of a creature no bigger then a kitten.
The halfling laughs aloud at this, and hurries up with a tankard of something steaming, which he offers you.

Brett Rowan |

"Well met, well met," cries the halfling, an ostentatious apron on his slim, though tall (for a halfling) frame.
"I'll say first, my name is Brett, and you two must be recently arrived for the same reason we've already come! Well then," he says, and without missing a beat tosses a small bit of jerky to Dior, who snaps it quickly, then turns away, as if aware of the fact that he was no longer being imperious, and resumes his stare.
"We've got steamed cider by the tankard, and I've taken the libery to cook up some grub. Handy as a cook, you might say, and if you don't say, then I WILL say," he adds with a grin and matter-of-fact voice.
"Nothing TOO fancy, I made some potato dumplings, fried in butter and onioins; shredded some greens with a little bit of butter too, AND a bit of dill and pepper (dill's a gods-send, I can tell you THAT). There's a pot of hot soup on the pot, and I just got a loaf of black bread from the oven (added a touch of Thyme and Rosemary, good for the bones that is, with a bit of bread), and these fine folk have seen fit to offer a bit of cream AND honey to go with the bread. That and a good pipe for those who want... why, what more could anyone ask for on a day like this? Safe, dry, warm, well-fed... Say," he says if the idea just occurred to him "where IS that cheeky Oleg fellow? Thought he'd at least want to taste his own vitles, never mind that I did the cooking," the halfling added.
I offer a grin all around, and my hand to the new-commers.

"Gods damn it," the scowling Oleg muttered, "another one? I just got back in from that mess!"
Muttering and huffing Oleg stepped out across the rain and eventually opened the heavy barred gate and stepped back a pace at the loveliness that greeted him.
Ry moved toward the fire, hands outstretched, griffon still
"A busy night to be had, it would seem?" The man before her and the boy behind her seemed to be closing ranks and smiling in her direction (both had warm smiles even on this horrid cold day). Someone was handing her a warm drink and chuckling toward her now very vocal pet. "Hush, Dior. No fussing", cajoled Ry, knowing full well how out of control her griffon could become when allowed freedom to act any which way. This spurred another bout of laughter from the halfling Brett. "He isn't used to large groups of people", Ariarh offered up as excuse or reason. And, then added a shy smile.
"What is this drink?" Ariarh didn't want these strangers to know she wasn't much of a drinker. And, by much, she meant she didn't drink at all. But, it sure did smell wonderful and it warmed her still-cool hands.

"As for me, I am Svetlana, Oleg's wife," the heavy-set woman added with a shy grin. "My husband, you must excuse him, he is not happy, for we have had many troubles as of late, as you may very well guess. But for now, my home is filled with cheer and good food. I think my husband will be the happier when he returns from the cold outside... but who knows? All of our good business has been driven back, and we have had troubles with bandits, as you may know. My husband," she added with a sad shake of her head, as if suddenly realizing his troubles "he... he is a proud man... these things are difficult for him. Please, excuse his attitude, for he would fight these bandits, though they kill him, if it were not for the fact that he had me to protect," she added with a somewhat helpless gesture, even as Brett offers her a tender cluck of his tongue from around the stem of his now lit pipe; he blows an exhale of smoke from his mouth and the smoke ring drifts over to the griffon, he stares at it like it is some sort of smoky creature he may destroy!
