"Well - as I see it - the town may be more happy with Drake - er... Rob - depending on how we put it to them with the speech we're all working on - that was why were writing the speech, right" Brett asks.
"Also - Aliento and Sir Dashan got land mapped out - sort of - but they mentioned something on a tower on an island - from what the Southrons told us - the island and the tower seem like it be east of the muck that flanked them when rode north. If they be right on their reckoning - the muck and ooze that be bubbling up came from the waters of the lake - and the same lake be east o' them as they stabbed north - and the island be on the lake - and the lake be south, as Sir Dashan and Aliento headed south - that'd put the island to the west o' them - being that they be headed south - and as they reckoned on something o' note be on the tower - then mayhap the tower be got stuff o' note too - but it be over twenty leagues east, at the least - of the town that the Southron folk done took with slaves, and the jungles be farther west then that," Brett said with a simple grin.
"What? I like maps?" Brett says.
"Also - if you sent spies to report the issue west of here - then we got to pick a good group o' spies. You know any?" Brett continues.
"Anyhow - I'm ready fer action - and sleep besides - but I want to know what you got to do next in the morning. Anyone got plans on who we take on our journey... well - it be nice on getting a good crew," Brett says, glancing around the room.
"Im in." Shaezon says with no room for doubt in his voice.

"In bird form you can travel great distances quickly and You'll blend into the natural surroundings. They might see a bird, but they do exist here, so they not? Just stay high enough that they can't shoot you down. "
"And if you see any weird fog stay the hells out of it!" Mister adds telepathically to everyone.

Brett Rowan |

"Hmm... So you want to bring the priestess - now - not to be rude or nothing - but maybe before we go - we can get Sylvath to "question" them each, ye know - the new folk - and see if they be trusty like? Paladin types got a way o' seeing truth, or so 'tis said," Brett adds.
Though Brett will advocate this strongly "in game" - this is merely a formality that does not need to be RP'ed out. It is specifically a social convention he would ask for - nothing more - to find out if the group you bring is honest, provided you don't know who they are, formally.
"As for who we bring - that may depend on the mission itself - I was kind o' reckoning on leaving lads we can trust back here - ye know - like Henry and them - though we could bring 'em - I'd kind of like to Drake... damn! Robert - all the help he can get, and I trust Hank and David and Tucker, and their families - they be good folk, and maybe to have 'em around here could be good, too? I got a hunch while we gone the better we leave the town covered, the better it be fer all..." Brett adds, glancing around.
"O' course - where do we go be the trick? We could stab north fer the Pesh shipment - we could go south to the island that Sir Dashan found - or we could blow 'em out off and head straight fer this place - and just check it out proper. Once we we know where we be going - we be better off - I mean to say - if ye want to take Hank, well - he be good at "ranging" over the lands, as they say... ahem!"
"Now - David be a tougher lad - a real "fighter" in the field, as it were... he could be useful in a fight, if we go to a toe-to-toe against them scum in the caves... But if we're on the trail south east - then I be wanting help tracking scum out there... If we tack toward the city on the field - the one with the slave types - then we best needed help - maybe the folks that been there - and that mean that Khromm basterd - but if we don't go to the south west, then we may not even need Khromm - I dunno - it all be real damn confusing to me... Ye got any suggestions on where we go next? That make a difference, I reckon," Brett adds, glancing around.
"See - call me crazy - but I want to know where we be going specific - so I know what to pack and what to plan, as it were - and then we get to bed - find out what the treasure be worth, if anything, then make speeches in morning, then hit the trail with a fresh start," Brett adds, glancing around.
In essence, Brett seems to be interested in where you plan on going - and, when he knows that, then the GM will be better able to advance the story forward in that direction. Clearly you have lots of ideas on what to do while on the trail - it's just a matter of what direction you want to take in the morning. Once we know where that direction will be - then all sorts of information on what you can take, who will come with you - what you've found already - and so on - will be revealed. But at least - that's just Brett's opinion...

Ka'etil Malas'rae |

"Personally, I would say that the council needs a win. We should take an action that sees immediate results for the people. My recommendation is to take a small contingent of men, perhaps one of my captains, or one of our trusted friends, and raid the Pesh shipment. We do the raid ourselves, stealthily ambush them, and then destroy the drugs and send the men back with the useable spoils. Drake can announce that the Council raided a large shipment of dangerous drugs. The people shall be happy about this, No? Then we can move from there" Ka'etil suggests, pointing at the map. It will only put us two days behind, and while I do not want to keep the enslaved people waiting, if we can help it, I feel that addressing this shipment is important.
K: Nature 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
to figure out how best to destroy the drugs.
WOuld we be able to see a copy of the map with the rough sketch thing going on, so we sort of better know how exactly things are laid out? I dunno how long it would take to explore and map out the areas Dashan mentioned.
"Now, it could be prudent to explore the territory on the way to the southerner's lands, but that would further delay our progress. One possibility could be to go straight to the city, gather information there, and then explore on the way back, but we do not know our likely condition during our return. We won't have time to map anything out with a war-host at our backs, or 5000 slaves in tow. So while it pains me to do so, Perhaps exploration first is the best suggestion, depending on how long it is likely to take us.

Ka'etil Malas'rae |

"So we do the exploring while we send spies or what not to gather intel on the slavers and somewhere in there we hit a drug shipment?"
"I suggest raiding the shipment, the canyon's about a day away, we ambush them, then move to the south to explore, or go to the city."

Shaezon Silverfall |

Shaezon Silverfall wrote:"So we do the exploring while we send spies or what not to gather intel on the slavers and somewhere in there we hit a drug shipment?""I suggest raiding the shipment, the canyon's about a day away, we ambush them, then move to the south to explore, or go to the city."
"Sounds reasonable."

Dain GM |

"Alright... " Brett says, glancing between the two of you.
"So your vote is to take the shipment first - then, you want to sort of "wing it" and "improvise" where you may - or may not - go next?" he says very slowly, and deliberately.
Kae - you're not too sure - but as you can smoke those drugs - burning them may not be the best way to get rid of them - unless you don't mind a contact high for miles from the fire...
"Well - that is a very fine plan... though fer a simple lad like me who just wants to know what to pack - as in - how do I be prepared - it does make things tricky... Still - that's just rum luck fer me," he adds dolefully.
"Fine then - I'm going to pack at least fer the Pesh shipment - then, when I get back from my little errand o' packing - away we go in the morning, with speeches and so on first, eh?" Brett adds with a very weary sigh.
"Oh - and one other thing - if we send out any kind o' company from this town to the Pesh shipment - if it be large - or important - ye gotta figure the spies here waiting fer the shipment may get worried and send a message to their crew - so.... Let's keep the party to get the Pesh somewhat smaller - and "covert" - as it were... and then we go from there."
I am going to go run some errands. I don't know when I shall return - sometime later tonight. When I get back - the following is going to happen: You are going to get your treasure discovered and then divide it in the discussion thread - where, you will also be, theoretically, posting a formal list of laws for the entire city, which will be retconned into the "speech" that you appoint Arasmes and so on. The decision on how to divide the wealth - and what to do with it - may take a bit. But by tonight - I need a list of "volunteers" for the pesh attack, and then we ride north.
TO ALL - there will be occasions in this game when I will need to - as GM - need to know what you guys are planning, and what your next move is - if you don't tell me - if you guys don't just say (when I ask direct) - we do "X" - then the game can't go anywhere. Please - when I ask a direct question "What is the parties next move" - say "It's X" - tell me what YOUR character wants to do - period. Then I'm just going to tally votes from everyone - and go from there. All of this constant preparing is too much. Please, please, PLEASE - when I ask you guys a direct question on your "next move" - please just say "My character will do X" - and then, I'll look over the board, figure out what everyone WANTS to do - then you'll move as a team toward the goal the group "voted on". If your character absolutely won't do a specific task - let me know that when you decide - and we can go from there. It's just really hard to prep things in advance when the party looks at all the options, does nothing - and when they're given two choices decides how they want to handle the Third Choice...
To Kae - If this puts things in perspective - the reason I didn't forward out Khromm's map to you is because - never in a million years did I presume you would all skip the two quests I put up to go ride south to try to free the slaves now, especially after all of his tips. Remember - and I hate giving out spoilers - but in this case I shall, because Khromm's description just didn't seem to do the trick - the "Minor Acolytes" who surround the leader - they are spellcasters all - with a 25 Point Buy Base - they are all AT LEAST 6th level - and there are 20 of them alone. And - of course - they are not NPC classes - but PC classes, like you guys. This does not count the other guys there - the gladiator bodyguards - the mounted men - the footmen - none of them are NPC classes - all of them have 25 point buy - and other then the guards 400 or so guards who are at least on level one PC classes (or higher) - all of the rest of the guys (spellcasters, bodyguards, never mind the boss) are at least level 6 - or higher. While going after this town is a good thing to do - rushing forward on your own to the town to free the slaves, (though moving ahead maybe to get recon could be useful, though I don't know what more you would like to know on that mater now) - but I haven't made the map because I kind of assumed you'd get the hint and bring an army after it - not just ride in and try to do it now. Now this was a spoiler - I gave away something, but only because when Khromm made his description - I may not have done a good enough job with details and wanted to break them down better "In Game". If you still want to go there after you get the Pesh shipment - I will say no more on the subject though.
Hope that didn't sound like a dick - I didn't mean it too - but the town in the south - yeah - that's a lot rougher then you guys seem to think. You'll need time, supplies - and better stuff to make your move. That's just a suggestion, though.

ok, so looking at the "Explored Terratory" map...
1: I'm having trouble reading stuff... would it be possible to get a more High rez version of the image or something...
2: not sure what stuff we are talking about properly exploring... Is it the Kamelands?
3: what hex is the pesh canyon in?
4: I can't recall the "Swamp Witch off the top of my head...
5: What hex is the city in, or approximately what hex...
6: and the Jungle that was like "Halfling Country"
I need to know how far out of our way it will take us to bring the goods back to Saravale ourselves before saying for certain what I want to do, what troops to bring/send to bring the goods back to the city.
My Vote: Hit the Pesh Caravan first. Explore the area that Dashan looked over, and map it and claim it. Don't try to raid the city, but it seems like there is good info gathering that should be done in the "Jungle" and I'd like to check out that tower.
Also, i wanna see if anything else has nested in the spider cave or claimed that artifact that we couldn't reach before fighting the stag lord. It's been like 2 months right? We should look in on that thing...
Also would anyone else be kind enough to toss up knowledge rolls to figure out how to get rid of the pesh and opium? I'm naot sure how it's done IRL, but a big bonfire does not seem particularly bright...

Responses to Kae’s questions – for all
1: I'm having trouble reading stuff... would it be possible to get a more High rez version of the image or something...
Sadly – I am having trouble uploading the map as anything other then a JPEG – which has poor resolution. I could email you the map – if you’d like me to – just let me know, though, so I don’t send out a mass email with all that.
2: not sure what stuff we are talking about properly exploring... Is it the Kamelands?
You are correct – the Kamelands – specifically everything south of the river – all the way to the east, and everything to the west all the way to that island in the south with the tower in it (the letter is an “O” – but there is an island there. Dir Dashan has formally “gone over” this stuff – and put what he’s found on the map. But until your council members have formally “Gone Over” the land, and added it to your map specifically (as in – you’ve formally explored it) – then you can’t technically claim it as your own. Once you’ve “Formally” ridden out there – seen that it is empty land with no master – you can formally “annex” it to your kingdom.
3: what hex is the pesh canyon in?
Good question. This is a bit tricky – in order to cover up spoilers I had to “adjust the map” which is why there is obviously copied/pasted turf on top of things. Also – even though the Stag Lord’s base is “Formally” on the map on the “West Side” of the river – in our game – technically your base, and the town of Saravale – is on the EAST side of the river. Meanwhile – on your map formally – the canyons would be to the hex directly above, and to the left – of the map marked “Stag Lord’s Fort” – it looks like a green grassy plain, and something is smearing through part of the border there. To get to that, with horses, you’d need to ride up to the bridge.
This bridge - you have a road to get to it – so even though it is roughly 18 miles to the bridge – that is – 12 miles for the Stag Lord’s hex – and an additional six miles up to the bridge to get you to the west side of the river – as you are riding up there with horses on a road – you’re roughly moving about eight miles an hour – and should get to the bridge in about 3 hours tops – probably less. Then you’d need to cross the bridge, ride six miles over the road to the edge of the bridge “Hex” – (again, 8 miles an hour here, with the dirt road, no longer stone as you head west) then an additional 6 miles to the canyon – which is “hard country” (so your horses could move at half speed, or roughly four miles an hour).
All told – that would be – roughly – (assuming you took the road) all told that’s roughly (at a good pace) 5 hours and 15 minutes – or roughly 5.5 hours. You aren’t sure when the shipment is coming – but that should be enough to get you there.
Can you avoid all that and travel right through the swamp – instead of riding all the way up and around?
Yes – but the swamp is very difficult terrain – and you and your horses would be moving (at best) roughly 2 miles an hour – and the swamp is roughly 8 miles wide – totally not worth it.
Can you try to get your horses across the river without the bridge?
Theoretically – but remember – the “river” used to be very deep a long time ago – so the channel for the water is roughly sixty feet in width, and roughly fifty feet in depth – the water itself is only about ten feet deep – and forty feet across – so you could try it – but if someone broke a leg, injured a horse – or became damaged – it would prove to be a wasted effort – especially as the other method is much more cut and dry.
Once you get there – depending on when you leave – assuming all your men are mounted – if you have someone in the air – I can email whoever wants an “aerial map” of the general canyon area where you found the magic rug before – you believe that is the “basecamp” they intend to use to store the stuff – by the way. And you at least remember the layout of the inside of that “dungeon” – so it won’t be too hard. You could move your horses around, hide them, and do whatever you need to.
Once the job is completed – depending on when they show up – it will take you again – roughly 5.5. hours to get back. However – this assumes you are on horseback just riding back to town – and there are no other things you may have to take (prisoners, treasure, carts, or whatever they have, or you may need, and so on).
4: I can't recall the "Swamp Witch off the top of my head...
Of course – this is intentional. Sir Dashan and Aliento pointed out that the “hex” the swamp with lives in was a “Seemingly deserted” mess of ruins. They never went there – but Anuk-su indicated that the specific hex was – at one point – a small port village or town, to act as a way station for goods from Cloudwatch Keep – and the river running south. She believes there may be old ruins there – but no one has formally been there – including Sir Dashan and Aliento. Their only experience with the area came from some minor traders and a few trappers/fishermen near the water who informed the two Ustalavains of the rumors they observed.
It should be noted, though – that the very same area that this witch lived on – miles to her west – was low waters that looked like bogs and marches – all the waters there ooze slowly west – and form a tributary to the huge river that Clari and friends had to cross with the ferry – the river itself kept heading down farther, west and west, lower and lower – until it eventually poured into a deep valley many miles wide – but – that is (again) west of the slave town – though about the same distance south.
5: What hex is the city in, or approximately what hex...
If by the city of the “slavers” – you don’t know. Formally – that is not on your map. At some point someone will (probably) take a cursory glance that way using magic – but I just don’t have it made up in a file I can post yet, actually – I don’t even have it drawn up at all. When I do – when it is finished – I will be able to show you more. But according to the southerners – they had to ride at least a day north until they came to that lake with the tower – which was far to their east (putting them – at that point – at least two hexes to the west of the tower – and probably two hexes south of the tower – which is right off the bottom of your map). Also – that’s when everyone “met” – according to Khromm – the city itself is even farther south and west then that point. You’d guess (probably) that the city is (roughly) 4-5 hexes south of the Tower on the Island – and probably – 3-4 hexes west of the tower on the island.
This is, by the way – quite a distance.
6: and the Jungle that was like "Halfling Country"
Hard to say – technically – according to Khromm – Halflings lived in or by jungles in the desert – and stayed there – not unlike pygmies some old B movie… Formally, though – you saw no evidence of that while Clari was trying to cross the river – but that wouldn’t have stopped Khromm from being nervous. Those jungles were all around the WEST of the city of the slaves. So far – that city alone is pretty far out of your way.
I need to know how far out of our way it will take us to bring the goods back to Saravale ourselves before saying for certain what I want to do, what troops to bring/send to bring the goods back to the city.
Well – the real trick is when the caravan is due to arrive. But you know for a fact it will be a 11 hour round trip – assuming you take the roads and bridge, and also assuming everyone has a horse. Also - at this stage you don't know the size of the caravan - you only know Grishnak is looking for his "cut" of the help - and that it shouldn't be too "large" in numbers because, if it is - they'll give away their own position. Chances are it will be a small, tight group - with tough guards.
Also, i wanna see if anything else has nested in the spider cave or claimed that artifact that we couldn't reach before fighting the stag lord. It's been like 2 months right? We should look in on that thing...
You are somewhat incorrect on the dates. If you recall – that cave was explored in (roughly) mid-October – though I think your character was not formally shown the cave until (specifically) Neth 5th –it’s on the Book 1 Summary. That point would be very early “November” – as of now it is formally April 12th – so, actually – it’s been a little over 5 months. You could go there now – but it’s location is north past the bridge. As there is no road between the bridge – and the cave – you’d need to ride 20 hours – nonstop – from the bridge. Roughly 23 hours without halt from your base. If, on the way back from the Pesh thing – you wanted to explore – as it is 20 miles north of the bridge – you could get there in roughly (at 8 hours a day travel) in about 2.5 days – assuming you don’t push your horses. Then it would be the same distance back to the bridge – and all told – roughly an extra week out of your way (assuming you didn’t bump into anything while there).
So – just something to consider.
Also would anyone else be kind enough to toss up knowledge rolls to figure out how to get rid of the pesh and opium? I'm naot sure how it's done IRL, but a big bonfire does not seem particularly bright...
At this query – Galen will still advocate burning the stuff – because – smoke aside – he knows that fire will destroy it completely.
He will also add two other points.
1. Opium – in modest doses – can be used as a pain suppressor for types of surgery – or, as he points out somewhat distastefully – in the crude vernacular “cutters”. A person on a type of opium – called an “Opiate” – generally is a mild form of euphoria – and does not notice pain much. Of course – this pain remedy is addictive – but, if monitored by stern doctor – it is very useful. You only need a “Craft: Alchemy” - DC 18 – (no - can’t "take ten" here, as a failure means the product is destroyed) – to convert 1 ounce of Opium into 1 dose – or, if you prefer – 1 lbs of Opium into 16 doses. Again – in that form it is still addictive – but severely “watered down” – and can have potent uses for mundane doctors.
Galen adds the general rate for such a “dose” is roughly 10 GP. A standard “hit” of good Opium is roughly 100 GP. Both are 1 ounce. Hits are far more addictive, however (he does have SOME knowledge - as a shop keeper - of going rates of exchange).
2. Galen will also say – if you don’t want to use the opium that way – if you load all of it – and the Pesh – into heavy clay flasks, filled with some oil – and you could create slow burning fuse, then launch them several hundred feet into the very depths of the swamp.
He adds that you could let the creatures in the swamp their lose themselves to the narcotic – the drugs won’t make them act “insane” rather – laconic and somewhat euphoric. Who knows? Perhaps that would give you some peace – if the monsters in the depths of the swamp suddenly became “high” on such drugs.
Of course – that is only his opinion, but you sense, though - Galen is merely eager to set something aflame...

Note to all
Still waiting for a few more check-ins on where/what you'd like to do/go.
As soon as I hear that - I'll toss up your results for the magical gear and items.
Please put what you want to do with the stuff in Discussion.
Next - if anyone is interested - please put what laws they want to pass for the town in the discussion.
Finally - we should be leaving for our quest soon - let me know who/what you want to bring with you on the first leg of your journey - and we can go from there.
Also...
Hey - thanks for all the postings, gang! It's been really coming along well - I'm eager to see what happens next! Remember - I am keeping track of the postings - and when you get to level 7 - that year of "down time" - the postings will give you the bonus BP for whatever your new plan is.

Ry thinks they should tackle:
1. The Opium/Pesh shipment.
2. Deal with swamp creatures in crater of Saravale.
3. Look for the artifacts of power with Sir Dashan (map and claim territory)/Reconnaissance mission to jungle -- information gathering only.
4. Revisit Spider's Nest.
Is our group going to stay together for every quest or are we breaking off into smaller teams? Kae mentioned he would go after the pesh dealers with some of his military men etc and Ry could technically fly to the jungle (plus Dior and someone else) and look over the place if that is what we decide to do. I know awhile back we thought breaking up the team wasn't a good idea but with so much to do, would it make sense to now?
Re Galen's idea: Keeping some of the opium for medicinal purposes as in surgeries doesn't seem like a bad idea. Ry does not like the idea of blowing up the drugs in the crater and getting the swamp creatures high. BAD idea.

Remember - the swamp is roughly seven miles wide - and roughly five miles in length - which would give you (theoretically) 35 miles of ground to cover - I say theoretically, because this presumes there no hidden caves, or things in the caves that you may which to explore - and which will certainly/likely have underground creatures to deal with there, too. Also - this is "difficult terrain" - so any moves you take there could be very hard, and certainly slow going (you'd be moving, generally - 1/4 movement speed in difficult terrain).
I agree - it may be good to do some cursory exploration of the swamp, however - if you're really eager to do so - it may be useful to have creatures or allies that can move through such terrain stay there - while other creatures stab north to the Pesh dealers. For example - Rangers, Druids and such in the swamp (if you change shape to a gator - or some other swamp creature - you will not be as effected by the terrain - nor noticed as much by the villains - if there are any - but it is still 35 miles to cover - with a river running through it...).
You could set yourself a time limit for that - say - until Kae and the others get back, assuming you stay - but that is up to you. If you'd prefer to stay - just let me know - and we can toss up a "second quest" for those who are interested on the Combat thread.

Ariarh Kane |

I know it's technically a swampy area, but will it still be "difficult terrain" if Ariarh has Woodland stride (a druid may move through any sort of undergrowth (such as natural thorns, briars, overgrown areas, and similar terrain) at her normal speed and without taking damage or suffering any other impairment)? No worries re wildshaping into an alligator as it is a medium animal.
And yes, I would like Ariarh (and her crew) to stay and investigate and deal with the swamp in Saravale while Kae and his crew deal with the pesh shipment. It makes sense too as both have a priority since the swamp creatures keep coming out of the crater and attacking/killing our people!
And yes to the time limit: working on it until Kae and his crew's return.

CRAAAPPPP!
When the medicinal purposes for the opiate come to light Shaezon would advocate converting it for medicinal purposes. SPecifically his medicinal purposes since he has to have a tree cut out of his lung at some point.

Hmm, okay now that I'm on 6th level, as a druid I can wild shape to change into a large or tiny animal or a small elemental.
Ry received word that her new armor has been delivered and she collects her Leaf Armor from the council vault (she commissioned it when they made their trip to Oleg's and before they met Arasmes).

You are completely correct - however; while that applies to you - it would not apply to your horse and companions. That is something to consider, unless you plan on going alone...
Also - who will your crew be for this mission?
Also - what is your plan for Isani? Will she go after the Pesh - go with Ariarh - or have some alternative plan? I don't know - because I haven't heard from her yet.
If/when you go down there - what is your plan - how long will you be gone - the whole schmere - more to come, though

Shaezon Silverfall |

Shae I thought you'd get a kick out of this.
ive seen that before, but I had forgotten. Lol. Yea that's about right.

Dain GM |

Shae I thought you'd get a kick out of this.
Ras - any word what you and Laz plan doing? If I don't hear from you - I will assume Laz will wait in the town until you get back from the Pesh shipment - then you will both travel south. But I don't know what you are trying/planning to do.
If I haven't heard your plans - that's the default I shall use at this time.

Dain GM |

Hmm, okay now that I'm on 6th level, as a druid I can wild shape to change into a large or tiny animal or a small elemental.
Ry received word that her new armor has been delivered and she collects her Leaf Armor from the council vault (she commissioned it when they made their trip to Oleg's and before they met Arasmes).
The armor will be there in the morning. No worries!
Speaking of which...

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Some time long into the night – after your conferences have convened…
On two instances, your idea for fair market value is somewhat off – specifically the leaves and the bow – in this case – you end up assisting Galen – as he has studied business for some time, and has a better knowledge of the value of such items.
Magical Bow
1. You find a Bow – it has the Symbol of Erastil on the hilt.
It functions as a +1 Bow – but in the hands of a Cleric of Erastil – it is a +3 Bow.
Clerics of Erastil gain the following powers. Each “Power” is equal to 1 “point”. A player has as many “points” a day equal to 3 + Charisma Modifier.
Power 1
The possessor the bow can use “Dead Eyes Lore” – as per the spell. Caster Level is equal to the Cleric level – minimum Level 1.
Power 2
Can cast “Weapons Against Evil” on the next arrow that you fire. The Caster level is equal to the Cleric Level – minimum of Level 1.
Power 3
Can cast “Abundant Ammunition” on the quiver that goes with the bow. The Caster Level is equal to the Cleric Level – minimum of Level 1.
Approximate value of bow – according to Appraise roll: Depends – for all purposes of price, it is merely a +1 Long Bow – you’d estimate roughly 2,200 gold pieces – yet, you have a hunch if you could find a Cleric of Erastil – such a person would probably pay you up to – 25,000 gold pieces – probably more, because, thanks to your good rolls via Spellcraft – you sense there may be powers hidden in the bow that are, as yet, unlocked!
Golden Leaves
You find six golden leaves, which look like they are magically crafted – though they are not magically made – simply leaves from a magic tree. They can be worn like an “Amulet” around the neck, or like a broach.
The Leaf grants the wearer the following powers while they wear it:
1. Woodland stride. Those with Woodland stride may add +5 to their movement speed in any Forest Terrain – as long as they are walking or on foot.
2. +5 to “Stealth” in any Forest Terrain
3. “Friend of the Wild” – all Fey and creatures of the “Animal Subtype” are more positive to those who wear such leaves; provided they are wild. All “Wild” animals are now set to “Indifferent”, rather then “Unfriendly” – and all Fey Folk are modified up from Unfriendly to Indifferent, Indifferent to Friendly, and so on…
4. While the amulet does not allow a player to “speak” Sylvan – any player who is wearing the leaf can understand Sylvan.
Approximate value per leaf – according to Appraise roll: 5,000 gold pieces each, you’d gather.
Horn of Plenty
The horn looks like a beautiful cornucopia – it is made of finely woven meshed branches.
If you speak the command word – the horn is filled with fresh fruits. There is now enough food inside this Horn to feed 10 people one entire meal. Eating the food from this Horn will allow the player to function for 24 Hours as if they had the “Endurance” Feat – if they already have this Feat, the effects double for a day.
The people who eat the food will each regain 1d4+1 Hit Points after the meal – only 10 people can use this ability. Each person can use this ability once (in other words, you cannot give a person “Three Meals” and assume they will gain “3d4+3” – the Horn confers no more healing magic then stated).
Once it is used – it cannot be used again for a period of 7 days.
Approximate value of Horn – according to Appraise roll: Roughly 4,000 gold pieces.
This gold - and the value attached to it - is all "relative" - you don't have any of this gold - until you can find a buyer. Once you do that - you can get gold or coin for this stuff. But until that time - you can either purchase out the item yourself, like - if one of you wants the bow - you can get take the bow, and pay for it out of pocket - and the rest of the party can split the coin - if you want one of these items - or you can just leave them in the vault for now. But if you want to "Share the Wealth" - someone needs to buy the gear - and you divide the wealth among everyone.
Also - if you want the base price of the gold - that can be arranged - it must just be taken out of the treasury. So - for example - now that you have a total of Gold - you can just say "Give me the coin" - and it will be provided for you out of treasury. But as that will sorely deplete the treasury - it's up to the council how they will have to deal with it.

Thanks dain.
Based on the information, Kae wants to hit the Pesh shipment, then return to saravale with the goods and lock everything away, to use the pesh to smoke up the swamp, and make the opium into medicine and sell it to "cutters" and healers.
Then we go from Saravale to map and annex the the Kamelands, and investigate the tower.
Probably want to return to Saravale after all that with gear and such, if we find things, as it will have been some time. but then again we can settle that later as well, and explore the rest f the forested area of the map, but dunno about that yet.
Ry, mentioned exploring the swamp, does the woodland stride from he leaves help with moving through that area, or is it too swampy to be forest or something?
and we could theoretically make a forray into the swamp after returning from the tower, right? or take the week long trip to the spider cave after we finish the tower, depending on the state of the town... not sure bout that yet.
BUt right now, Kae's hitting the pesh shipment, returning to town then exploring. No need to bring troops.

You hitting it alone - or do you want some of your companions to come - Brett and Khromm are open for whoever need them, by the way... Though, personally - it would make sense if Khromm went to do fighting in the canyons, and Brett used his tracking skills in the swamps...
Until I know more - that's THEIR plan - meanwhile - does anyone have any interest in - or concern for - the treasure you've found?
If so - let me know...

Ka'etil Malas'rae |

think shae was going to come north, Yeah, i'd like to bring khromm.
Raz, and Laz may be helpful with the caravan as well, scouting, and summons would be more than helpful, but that's their call. same with Isani, but more the merrier imho, dunno who the best groupings would be...
I'd sort of suggest doing the swamp ting for 2 days while others are north, i guess... more on that tomorrow, if i can...

Ariarh Kane |

Ry cannot agree to using the pesh in the swamp -- until she knows more about what is going on in there and the effects. She will agree to storing the opium away in the Keep for medicinal purposes -- to be used by cutters and healers and only to be distributed by the Council.
Knowledge, Nature (effects of pesh on animals, plants etc): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Ry will be exploring the swamp whilst the others are away dealing with the pesh and opium shipment.
She would like to ask Brett to help her (re tracking etc) as well as Henry Ironhorse and Ryul as latter two are rangers and will be useful in the swamp. Of course, Dior would also be going into the swamp with his mistress.
To hire Ironhorse: 500 gp less 70% (350 gp)=150gp
To hire Ryul : 500 gp less 70% (350 gp) = 150 gp
Ry will spend two days checking out the swamp crater.

I will go with the group attacking the shipment of pesh.
As will I. Shaezon says.
DM, What was in the book that galen was studying, or is that simply the spells that were in his spell book? I need to finish scribing spells from it, return it to Galens father, and pay him the remaining gold I owe him from the loot distribution.

Ka'etil Malas'rae |

Hey, want to start a discussion on the treasury board, cause I'm not sure how much cash Kae's got and with the added loot, want to check on the cash available and such.
So pop on over there, and chat with me on that, yar?

Dain GM |

FYI - once you read the thread there - please understand why I am VERY determined to get the magical gear you have found "valued" and "distributed". You will know why after you read the thread.
By the way...
Kae's loot - like all of yours - should be currently on your character sheet - the one you sent me - don't worry - I've been adjusting things as per necessary. However - as I have an errand to run - I can toss that up later.
Kae - to set your fears to rest -
Your "level 1 Cohorts/officers" will cost you a grand total of (gasp!) 20 gold per week - per man, on level 1.
The nation - not you - must pay for the town army. That costs the nation (roughly) 600 gold pieces a week.
HOWEVER - you still have not sent me their sheets, yet. Please do so, so I can give them both the chance to level and improve in the following days and weeks.
Thank you!
Shae - your apprentice is costing you 250 GP a week - currently. Not to mention the cost of the leaf you took - and the cost of the potions you shared with (more on that via the discussion post). This leaves you "in the red" - as I see it - until you distribute the wealth for the treasure you found.
Once you determine THAT cost - you'll be doing better financially. But for now - sadly - you have little money. Trust me - I checked your sheet! :)
Don't worry - you'll be getting more wealth soon - depending on what you do in the coming days/weeks.

Shaezon Silverfall |

Can I return 2 flasks of holy water, 1 magical potions and 1 flasks with chemical compound. If the leaf is going to put me in the red then they can just keep that too. Pay me the coin. I'll pay of Galen's dad, get my broach back, and tell Galen I can't afford to keep him around yet. I'll get back to them when I can.

I'll pay of Galen's dad, get my broach back, and tell Galen I can't afford to keep him around yet. I'll get back to them when I can.
1. The issues with the potions
This is up to several things - the first is if Ariarh is willing to take the potions back and then try to track down the original suppliers and try to haggle with them to get the money back.
Remember: she did not buy the potions for herself then "sell them" to the rest of the group. She bought the potions "for the group" - and used them "for the group". This means that "the group" would need to be personally responsible for defraying the cost of all potions used. If one person said "No - I didn't use the potions - so I don't owe" - that doesn't fly. Because then another person, who DID use the potion - could say (rightly, perhaps) "But I DID use the potions, and my actions were aided by them, and I hadn't had my actions aided - I may have died - if I HAD died - than the party may have been wiped out".
If Ariarh can return the potions she has at a cost - then that is something. But not how that is laid out now.
2. The issue with the leaf
The leaf itself makes up a part of the treasure - you need divide the treasure 8 ways, specifically -
1. Aliento
2. Arasmes
3. Ariarh
4. Anuk-su
5. Brett
6. Kae
7. Sheazon
8. Sir Dashan
Comments about Dior, and Mister aside - those are the companions who went on the quest - those are the people who need their cut (though Sir Dashan has promised to just take his money and "give it to the poor" - though Aliento is not happy on it - and he himself will be taking HIS cut - altogether).
You have six of the leaves - and an approximate value of them at 5,000 GP - which means you'd need to give each player 3,000 gold pieces for their "cut". If they take a "leaf" then they will need to pay out the rest of the party 1,250 out of pocket to differ the cost - but this was a point that was discussed - quite a bit, actually - about how to divide the treasure.
Galen - and "picking him up later"
Regrettably- this is an impossibility. Galen is your apprentice - not a hired hand or a gardener. You made the deal - and are now bound by it - and that includes his teaching and instruction, and feeding - etcetera. All of this ends up costing you the modest cost of 250 Gold Pieces a week (FYI - this cost goes down for you each week - Kae's is lower for his guys because not only are they only level 1 - he has a better modifier - for things like a "Fortress/Stronghold" - and other things).
You'll be getting that eventually - when you do - your cost for him will reduce too - eventually - 100 gold a week. When he levels - his cost will go up, too - but he'll get his new Feat - which you choose, and start "putting him to work for you". But he's YOUR apprentice - you have the duty to teach him/use him to help you - so, make use of him.
None of this includes the fact that you already have agreed to buy the cost of the scrolls for Identify - but actually had no money to pay for it at the time, and were getting Oleg to handle it.
As for reclaiming the broach from Galen's father?
Not possible. You made the deal with him in good faith - you can't just take it back because of the fact that you're loosing money. He won't give it to you first of all - and second of all - you needed to actually read out the complete list I gave you.
Other Details...
All is not lost. Remember - you seem to be only reading part of the posts I send out - and if you look over the loot you picked up - you will naturally observe that there are some other magical items - specifically - HIGH COST magical items - worth at least - an additional 6,000 gold pieces.
Right now - each person's "cut" - is formally 4,500 after the divide.
But - that is not even a fair statement!
That is the "Minimum" - you COULD have far more. The bow you found - it is a powerful artifact in the hands of a cleric of Erastil - and special powers awaken in it if you are. Those powers make the bow (theoretically - like if you guys bothered to find a buyer for this thing) worth up to (according your boy Galen) roughly 28,000 gold pieces!
This would mean that if you added the Horn - the leaves - and the bow (sold to a proper cleric of Erastil) your group would have a total amount of gold pieces equal to - 7,750 gold pieces
This would allow you to keep the leaf at 5,000 gold pieces - and to pay for your modest cut of the potions Total 1,300 gold pieces - or - specifically 162 gold pieces 5 silver per person.
This would mean that - your cut of the loot (if you could find this "cleric to Erastil", if you can find one - would be leave you enough for 2,587 gold pieces and 5 silver - for your "cut" - AFTER you claimed the leaf - and that would afford you enough for Galen for two months - your own cost of your own food (except you don't need food, except one full meal a week, so...) and you would still have left over (roughly) 500 gold pieces for yourself.
That 500 gold pieces - for yourself - assumes you paid Galen for two solid months without him earning anything.
Meanwhile - Galen's father is already working for you - helping you out with things - meaning you are technically earning money already.

Dain GM |

Okay - with all the wealth in town - you can put your stuff "in the vault" for now - and head on this quick quest - or not.
If you go to the Pesh deal - how would you like to get paid? In advance with a flat rate - or part of the treasure?
So far - I have for sure Kae and Khromm and Arasmes and Shae. Did you guys want a cut of the loot you are certainly going to find - or did you want just a flat fee up front.
Khromm wants 500 GP up front - plus 10% of the cut of the items after they've all been sold. He doesn't care about what you find - he just wants his gold. He believes that is the going rate for most mercenaries/bounty-hunters - and is comfortable with that total. As for the rest of you - you can choose this deal too, unless there is more then ten people, of course. If there is less - the others will just claim the rest of the money. But the 500 may be more then worth it.
Note to Shaezon
If you decide to on this quest and take Galen - you don't have to pay him anything. He only gets the 250 gold per week (again - this figure goes down for every week he works with you - until it bottoms out at 100 a week).
He may be useful in the fight - and certainly will learn things. But if he needs a healing potion - you can either give it to him - or he can buy it from the 250 you give him.
If you DO take him with you - he will be slowly gaining XP - and will level sooner. For combat purposes - he is yours to command and make use of, though.
But no - he won't be getting a "cut of the loot" - unless you want to give it to him. He'll just be leveling and helping you out like a cohort - albeit a much lower level cohort.
To Kae
Your officers are kind of the same deal - however - they are really planning on staying with the town and troops, unless you specifically request one. In this case - if you do - I would recommend bringing the one more suited for being the person who works outside the town - and maybe some troops with him. Again - he gains no formal "Cut" of the loot, he is just following orders. However - he CAN gain experience.
Which reminds me - when will I see there character sheets - if you bring one of them - chances are (if he lives) he WILL raise to level 2. So - just saying...
To the others
Was there anyone else you want to bring with you on this quest? Some guards men (militia men won't cost anything or be part of "the cut" - they are already contracted with the town for a flat fee. Helping you/following orders is their job for their pay).
However - you may choose to recruit others for this quest - if you prefer. It's all up to you - just let me know who is going with you - and what they want to bring (like horses, a wagon for goods you secure - that sort of thing).
Good times!

Shaezon Silverfall |

I have a few points/questions that I will number to help keep track.
1) I was under the impression I loaned Galen's dad the broach while I had Galen as an apprentice. It's a non-issue. It's a relatively cheap item and I'll (in time) have another made. Plus if he uses it to help keep my shop I fully support that. It'll add a bit of "magical flair" to a magical shop.
2) I thought the leaf was novel, but not overly useful. I believe that gold will be more valuable to me than the leaf at this time. I would be curious to research where it came from though, but their are more pressing matters at this time.
3) I will take Galen on the quest. I'll try to keep him relatively safe behind the "front" of the battle.
4) I need a list of what spells are in this book i'm renting for the week. I still need to scribe the spells in it. It should be a non-issue as far as time goês, but may be problematic if I cannot get the proper inks etc (i.e cost to scribe). I can actually get much of this done before we leave to get the pesh shipment.
5) I am unsure about where to pick up the conversation to discuss Shaezon becoming a landholder with plans to build a magical school. I suppose I could bring it up at a council meeting, but I want to have that done before we do the "fast forward in time" thing. On a related note...
6) I need a location in town for my little magic shop. How can I officially spend build points? Related to that...
7) Conversation with Galen about money/etc;
Shaezon talking to Galen privately at some poing"Galen, Magic can get expensive. It's one of the reasons I want to set up a magical oddities shop. Frankly I have enough clout with the council to get a location, but we'll need some overhead. I am not much of a business person, though I do understand the concepts well enough. I would be open to any advice you may have on this matter as you have more experience in this than I and you're local. Not to mention Human, which I feel may be an asset here. How do you think we should proceed? If you'll recall I owe your father another 50 gold by the end of the week. Presently I don't have it, though much more than that is owed to me as soon as the council can sell some of the items we found.".

Dain GM |

On yet another note;
Would it be prudent/ possible to leave trusted advisors (npc's) to handle the minutia of finding buyers for the stuff in the treasury? Perhaps Oleg will do it for a fee.
1. The nearest cleric to Erastil is in Oleg's town - Moira Lochlin - the Ustalavian Changeling - is a High Priestess to Erastil.
Regrettably - Oleg's entire village - if liquidated - may be just enough to buy such an item (for a Cleric of Erastil). As of now - they do not have enough money. Still that is formally the "council's" problem. You have the appraisal - if you want to push for your formal cut - you are able to do so now. They will be forced to give you its value - but then - they are doing so (presumably) under duress - as they don't have the money for you personally, if you push for it.
I recommend leaving the bow for now - and taking your cut "on retainer" - let the council "owe you" the coin. They're good for it - but, for now - they will need to get it. Meanwhile - you are free to spend your "cut" in the town, and they can simply deduct your cost from the portion you quoted earlier.
As for the leaf? You may be able to find a buyer for that either here - or in the north - it is not so expensive that a buyer may not buy it.
Galen will recommend the Bounty Hunter section - they are a bit rougher - but there are some good men there who are legitimately looking to "bring in evil-doers for coin" - not unlike a "bail bondsmen". Some of these folk may be interested in such a Leaf - it could prove valuable in the field for the work. But then - you'd need to take part of your cut in the estimated value for the leaf. After which you can either find a buyer for that price - or less - or more - depending on your luck.
2. Oleg will certainly NOT do it for a fee - he is - in fact - a Council Member - specifically the Treasurer - if asked - he will do it for free. It's part of his job - but he leaves in the morning, now that Drake has come - to go back to his own town. He will only have one day to do it here - though he may be able to sell some of the stuff up by his own folk.
Oleg WILL offer to BUY the Horn from you - he feels his smaller and undermanned village can benefit more from it then your capital - but it will take him one month to get the coin for it - though it WILL happen - if you sell it to him.

Dain GM |

Technically – it was “Collateral”. Once you get the money from your “cut” – you’ll be able to pay him back the cost of the scroll you purchased – as you had no money on you at the time. He is not keeping the item – he is just holding it until then.
Remember, too – Oleg has engaged him to do business for you. He’s your business man – he keeps partial commission – and does all the work for you – once you start giving him things to sell. You just pick up the money every pay day.
2) I thought the leaf was novel, but not overly useful. I believe that gold will be more valuable to me than the leaf at this time. I would be curious to research where it came from though, but their are more pressing matters at this time.
Absolutely a fair statement. You do not need the leaf – I merely pointed it out – in case you wanted the leaf, that you could afford it, and more so.
3) I will take Galen on the quest. I'll try to keep him relatively safe behind the "front" of the battle.
Cool – but remember – he is your responsibility. If he dies under your care – it will negatively effect your chances of gaining students/apprentices/clients in the future – not unlike having the “Death of a Cohort” with the Leadership Feat. But – if you keep in the back, and give him good advice/suggestions – he’s probably going to be fine.
However – if he levels (as he may) – the higher the level he is – the more expensive he is each week. Don’t worry – it’s really not so expensive. Also – his “cut” of the loot is literally his weekly take-home from you. If he can help you net a profit of 2,000 gold pieces – he gets his usual 250 – but no more (until he reaches three – but then you get to pick his skills – and his Feats – which may be helpful – as you know what will work better for him anyway).
Basically the same book is Galen’s. What he has in his spellbook – he will let you copy all of it – as you are his new master – for free. You only had to “pay” his father for the cost of “Identify”. Already you just saved some more gold, by the way – because, as I said – you don’t need to pay to scribe the stuff your student gives you.
5) I am unsure about where to pick up the conversation to discuss Shaezon becoming a landholder with plans to build a magical school. I suppose I could bring it up at a council meeting, but I want to have that done before we do the "fast forward in time" thing. On a related note...
Well – that depends on what fast-forward you are talking about. Remember – this is still all “Technically” the same day you arrive back in town and reached level 6. You don’t have the formal “Fast Forward for One Year” – until AFTER you reach level 7. So you should have plenty of time in game, and in real life – to bring that up.
6) I need a location in town for my little magic shop. How can I officially spend build points? Related to that...
Formally – you will need to outfit yourself on the grid of the town with one “square” related to your formal “house”. This square appears on a map with 9 large squares, each divided into 4 smaller ones – for a total of 36 squares all told.
For your project, your best bet is to get an actual “City Block” – with nothing on it. You will need (eventually) a formal “house” to represent your property. This “house” on the map represents – basically – your ability to build your school. For now – it is the same cost in BP as an actual “mansion” –
- Mansion (10 BP): A single huge manor housing a rich family and its servants. Stability +1.
You should easily have this by the time you are on level 7. If you get the entire “city block” – you can then start to (in time) build an additional set of buildings – including “Exotic Craftsmen”, “Herbalist”, “Magic Shop”, Library”, “Academy”, “Alchemist” – to name a few. Without these buildings – your school’s business venture can only go so far, by the way.
7) Conversation with Galen about money/etc;

Galen gives you a rather dry, and somewhat confused look. He motions to you – and encourages you to move with him privately into a secluded area where no one is around to watch – or listen – to what he is going to tell you. Even so – you can see Param peeping about from his pocket – as if watching for spies!
”Master,” he says slowly, and a little confused ”I – I understand that you need some basic coin to “set things up” – as it were – yet… well… your pardon, Master,” he says, as if trying to articulate something rather “delicate”.
He thinks a moment – then seems to hit on it.
”The man known as DeVille? He is the owner and proprietor of a lucrative gaming facility. His business routinely generates money into several thousand gold pieces a week, on average, though – as I hear it – he does his best to keep a modest profile. I hear these facts on his gaming from my father – for he likes to visit such houses, from time to time.”
Galen looks at you with a knowing look – but, seeing your expression, he lets out a sigh, though instantly tries to correct his rudeness.
”Your pardon Master – my father lost his earnings long ago – reducing us to what you see – he gambles – it is a sickness – a weakness – but it has taught me something of use, perhaps,” Galen adds.
He reaches into his pouch, pulling something out, and then motions to you, having you crouch low against the ground. He throws what he took from his pouch on a low, flat stone. Now you can see that it is a pair of dice – with numbers painted on them. They tumble across the stones a moment, and land on “2” and a “4”. Galen gives you a dry grin – and waves his hand – suddenly the dice “finish bouncing” and clatter across the rock a bit – righting themselves somewhat.
The figure is now “6” and “6”.
”To Men and Elves – such a thing would be a cheat – but you and I Master? We are neither – we are Magi – and to us – we make our own luck, yes?” he adds, looking at you with a knowing look – even as you can see a glimmer of expectation of praise for his cunning and ingenuity in solving your dilemma.

Shaezon Silverfall |

Shaezon say's very sternly,but quietly
"I am known as a magi. If I always win surely they will ban me from the establishment, at best. Gambling is generally not something I'd partake in,.." Shaezon then begins to grin widely, "But, if need arises you may have a very good idea. You're right though. We do make our own luck. However, a very important lesson of the Magi is to be prepared for all possible situations. I personally favor translocation in the case of trouble."
Then in a snap of his fingers Shaezon vanishes in front of his Apprentices eyes. After a moment of stunned confusion there is a small cough 20 feet behind Galen. There stands Shaezon. (Used the teleport sub school power)
Shaezon gives Galen a nod that wordless says "Cmon Kid."
As they walk Shaezon says, "You have a lot of potential and I appreciate your council. I will think more on your suggestion."
P.S. What spell did he use?

Ka'etil Malas'rae |

Not private, but Raz should read this
Ka'etil asks the new ambassador, after the laws are dealt with and the plan is made, "Well, seeing as you know the new southerners best, Would you ask them if they would join in the raid on the pesh shipment, their unique skills would surely prove valuable, as would yours, if you would also like to join. I would appreciate all the force I can muster, while cutting down head-count, as it were. So would you speak to them?"
He them pauses, and winces slightly, " . . . I should see to Clari, in the mean time,"
