Jelly Gelly |
I go after goblin number 6 hit: 6 + 1d20 ⇒ 6 + (1) = 7 at least adventures league doesn't have any penalties for crit failures, other than a miss.
dmg: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Drakr |
" Step behind me, back through the door! " Drakr barks this order taking on a very military tone.
I'm after Jelly and Anders in the Init order yes? If not I'll ready to disengage. If they do as I say and retreat through the door I'll disengage and stand in the doorway.
@Jelly and Anders, my end game with this order is to block the goblins from hitting you. I'll stand in the doorway using the dodge action every round while you guys use ranged weapons over my head.
Jelly Gelly |
I'm not ready to run yet, they will come after us, best to get rid of this group first and then hopefully make a run for it before reinforcements arrive. And then find a place to rest for the night.
I swing at the Fat goblin hit: 6 + 1d20 ⇒ 6 + (1) = 7
dmg: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
I like the idea of using ranged weapons, over your head, but they might do the same, and you are putting yourself at risk. Not to mention, cover penalties, because we have to shoot over you. My attack bonus with the crossbow is 3-2 because of the cover penalty, making most of my attacks a miss. Anders is also less effective.
If I go down, finish these guys out before healing me, I'm willing to take chances
Drakr |
Drakr growls and swings at one of the burnt goblins.
Attack : 1d20 + 4 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 10 = 16 I'll use my guided strike to add +10

Drakr |
Drakr wipes the gore from his hammer shaking his head
" I'm glad that turned out as it did but if they hadn't have gone down we could have been in trouble. Now I'll never leave a mans side in the middle of a fight but sometimes you have to use the terrain to your advantage. Look at you two, bruised and bleeding all over you're on your last legs. I have to know that if I give an order like that again you'll listen. "
Short rest? Or Long? I've still got a hit dice left.
Drakr |
" I'm going to go get Gundren, I don't like to leave him there while we rest. "
While Jelly is clearing out the Goblin bodies from this room Drakr tries to sneak back to the room where Gundren is and retrieve his body.

Your long rest is interrupted by a hobgoblin warband returning home. This warband consists of three hobgoblins led by another with two wolves.

Drakr |
Ok so for a long rest I would have removed my Chainmail so my AC will be 12 here.
Drakr grabs his shield and picks up his Warhammer from nearby.
That would be about my action right? One free item manipulation and then my action to get my hammer?
DaWay |
Yes. You are correct.
The hobgoblins move in to attack
4d3 ⇒ (2, 3, 2, 3) = 10 D, JG, D, JG
The first moves in to attack Drakr
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 191d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 hit
The next hobgoblin moves in to attack JG preoccupied with the wolves
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 81d8 + 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (7) + (3, 4) + 1 = 15 miss
The next moves in to attack Drakr
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 81d8 + 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + (5, 2) + 1 = 13 miss
The hobgoblin boss attacks Jelly Gelly
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 191d8 + 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (7) + (1, 5) + 1 = 14 hit
Anders go....

That's two strength saves DC 11 or be knocked prone Drakr
The Hobgoblins move to Anders
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 171d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 hit
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 141d8 + 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + (6, 3) + 1 = 16 hit

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 71d8 + 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + (1, 6) + 1 = 10 miss
...and that's game, sorry that it ended with a TPK, but it's not the first i've had with this scenario. Most of my kills come from hobgoblin and bugbears. I enjoyed gaming with you guys but it seems as though yours and gundren's fate was not to make it to the Wave Echo Cave.
Jelly Gelly |
um, we had 3 people, you are surprised at a TPK why? Adjustments are suppose to be made when that happens, even though the home games provide no guidelines for the adjustments. Can we still continue the game? Even though we won't get adventures league credit, I never played all of this game, just part of 3 and 4, and I wanted to see the ending. Any chance we can continue this game on as if we had won this battle?
