Tariq Ibn-Ziyad |

Tariq is cut by the wounded gnoll's blade. He manages to snatch his weapon away from the lash of the first whip, but the second wraps around his leg and with a tug the desert warrior is flipped on his back.
"Dwali, I've been stalling these guys for you, but they are getting really insistent about making me dead."
Downed, but not out, Tariq strikes from the ground at the one who wounded him.

"Ha! Die you mangy spotted dog!"
Can I try to cut the whips? Or can I attempt to strike the whip wielded with my remaining attacks?

Oops-this time my post was devoured.
Dwalindor smiles and growls as more of the animals approach him.
Hang tight, Tariq. I have a few of these whelps to deal with then I'll see what's left of yours
Dwalindor drops Amanda, and quickdraws his waraxe with two hand grip.
He steps (U8) in between a pair of the creatures and cleaves the two.

Hoping that the first blow would finish off the wounded gnoll, Tariq spent the rest of his attacks on the other gnoll within reach from the ground.

Dwalindor attacks the gnoll, biting deeps and spilling blood on the desert sand but not enough to actually kill the cursed thing.

DMummy |

Tariq definitely kills the gnoll fleeing by shooting it in the back. The hyena gives its odd laughing howl as it mourns, but it continues to flee the fight into the desert.
The slaves are grateful to you, bowing and proclaiming thanks to the gods.
For pity's sake, good sirs, can you release us from these bonds?

![]() |

Dwalindor stops his chase and rests against a boulder
"blasted gnolls...huff...always trying ...huff...to sell other people ."
Once recovered he returned to the camp

Tariq Ibn-Ziyad |

"It is our pleasure to have freed you. How did you come under their control?"
Tariq asks as he works on their bonds.
"And perhaps more importantly, are their more in this band we need to worry about? One hyena got away."

Thorrpe's Shadow |

Shad wisely moves to the back of the group so as to not frighten the slaves with his shadowy appearence

Tariq Ibn-Ziyad |

"Ahhhhhhhh, I feel the rays of Ra upon me, warming me and closing my hurts. Thank you Noonan!"
Tariq makes a sweeping gesture towards the aged priest.
"This one serves the Dawnflower, may the sun never set upon your paths."

DMummy |

Truly you are blessings from the gods! We thought we were done for.
The freed captives happily eat the food provided by Noonan and even seem willing to hug poor Shad in their gratitude.
Soon enough they begin to pepper you with questions.
Can you tell us where we are? The gnolls took us from a trading caravan. Can you help us back to a city? We need your help still, the gods will bless you! Where did you find that axe? Is your friend cursed? Can we get him help at a temple?

Tariq Ibn-Ziyad |

"Is the trading caravan still underway? Or was it overrun?"

![]() |

"How long ago did the gnolls attack the caravan?."

DMummy |

They overtook the caravan four weeks ago - the rest of the caravan were killed by the gnolls, or sacrificed to their malignant b+!*+ goddess Lamashtu. Thank you! Praise be to the gods that you will take us back to civilization!
The trek back into civilization takes three days from your current location with the severely weakened slaves.
The civil authorities of Tephu are...surprised at your generosity, and you receive their congratulations. Grudgingly after you forced your way into the libraries.
You return to the desert with your supplies replenished by the city as thanks for your efforts and resume your exploring.
Refer to the campaign description for the Parched Dunes map. Which direction do you want to travel?

![]() |

Dwalindor waves goodbye to the slaves and the city, glad to be away from both.
I say we follow this riverbed to the northwest and see what the rocks hold. I'd wager that is where we need to go.
Unless an alternate route is suggested with a good argument, Dwalindor will strike out to the NW.

The desert stretches on as you head northwest, following the stream.
After a while you divert down a dry arroyo and come across what appears to be the foundations of a small village built in stone blocks set in the ground - the stones are old, and Dwalindor can see they were put there by human hands but he can also tell the marks of bronze tools to carve the stones.
No one has lived here for centuries, and the ruins may in fact predate Earthfall.
Move again!

"This place is so old even the dust is dusty ."
Dwalindor will do a cursory search of the area with his dwarves eyes (taking 10). Assuming nothing found, he heads NW again (if we only traveled one hex) until reaching the rocks. Once there head north to hills.
Dwalindor will head for rocks then the hills next.

DMummy |

A vast mesa looms in the distance, at least two days away.
You find nothing of much interest here, the sands having carried away anything much of interest. You do come across the bones of a great animal, sticking out of the earth weathered and yellowed by time and sand. The teeth are massive, almost as tall as Dwalindor, but you have no way to get anything back.

Dwalindor grunts in disappointment then shrugs and points to the mountains to the north.
I dunno. Heading north next.
The dour dwarf trudges off north, avoiding any large skeletal bone remains.
