As you head south you see a room to the east - A ring of stone pillars supports a white domed ceiling above this circular chamber. Along the perimeter of the rotunda, shelves crammed with crumbling papyrus scrolls and clay tablets stand behind iron mesh doors.
Roll Perception for me! Research in the Vault is Knowledge (Engineering), Knowledge (History) or Knowledge (Nobility).
Dwalindor the Pahmet |
Dwalindor peers suspiciously into the round room.
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Great, more scrolls. Noonan, it looks like it is Myllar tyme for me and reading time for the three of you.
Tariq Ibn-Ziyad |
"Hey, the chest is made of bronze, that's worth something in and of itself."
He chides the dwarf.
"Look at this place."
Tariq snoops around the scrolls.
"Let's see now . . . cartouches that I may recognize . . . "
Know Nobility: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 7 + 2 = 26

Ye olde Myllar is actually only sold in Numeria. It's widely credited with the number of hairless "men" wandering around the ruins. Dwalindor should go with something like a more substatial Ginis stout, or perhaps a Harpsichord lager.
Roll research damage Tariq!
Noonan and Dwalindor notice the proportions of the dome overhead aren't right - it should be higher in a room of this size.
Thorrpe's Shadow |
It would seem we have entered an area that my knowledge is not very useful. How can I help Tariq?
Tariq Ibn-Ziyad |
1d4 ⇒ 2 d4 right?
"Wait one second my friend, this one here . . . "
Dwalindor the Pahmet |
"Yeah Noonan. Something ain't quite right with that stonework. Arch is all wrong. I might be able to lash Amanda and Lucy together and see if I can poke it or something ."
Unless other ideas are presented, Dwalindor sets to tying his two pole arms together to extend their length. A bit unwieldy but should reach.
DMummy |
It is 1d4 + your intelligence modifier - the most "Scholarly" the class the higher the damage you roll. So you'd hit for 4 "damage" to the KP total of the Vault of Hidden Wisdom.
Tariq makes progress but is still just on the cusp of a discovery.
You can make Int rolls to help guys.
Dwalindor the Pahmet |
Who in the red blazes is Marge? Dwalindor calls back to Noonan while he finishes binding the two polearms together.
Alright ladies, don't fail me now. Dwalindor takes the two weapons and tries to poke up at the ceiling, testing it's resistance and consistency.
Dwalindor the Pahmet |
Why, in the safe square of course (W22?). Did I mention there is a little paper pink umbrella on the top of the weapons as a shield for full collapse?
Let me know when you guys are done messin' around. This could be messy.
Once the others are clear, Dwalindor will give it a gentle poke at first, trying to see if the ceiling is an illusion or false/thin veneer. He will not try poking any harder until the other research is done.

You can't really crit the research. Nice try though!
After digging through the scrolls, Tariq finds the remainder of the journal of the Nethysian priest Khnenti.
According to the journal, with Hakotep's ib and ka trapped in his heart and funerary mask, the part of his soul, the ba, remained trapped within the pharaoh's body in his pyramid.
In order for the Sky Pharaoh to pass into the afterlife, the three parts of his soul-his ba, ib and ka-must be rejoined.
Khnenti goes on to speculate that that runiting Hakotep's divided sould might even return the Sky Pharaoh to life.
Meanwhile Shad is able to discover that Chisisek designed and built Hakoteps' pyramid. When construction was completed Chisisek was killed and buried in a hidden tomb to preserve the pyramid's secrets. No lans of the pyramid seem to have survived.
Dwalindor meanwhile pokes a small hole in the ceiling - that's no solid stone up there.
Dwalindor the Pahmet |
Did I mention the little pink paper umbrella? He is prepared!
Something ain't right up here or I am a bearded hobbit! Let me know when you all got what you need. I aim to poke a bit harder up here...unless one of you brought a ladder or something.
Dwalindor continues to wait for the painfully slow and boring reading to complete before he presses in a few more spots close to the first.
Not sure if his dwarven stonecunning skill can help him further here...especially if unsafe stone

Perhaps we can find and speak to the spirit of the builder?
any idea of where the builder might be buried?
DMummy |
Dwalindor hears a booming voice from the sky:
Actually although halflings look like hobbits, due to international copyright laws they're not.
Dwalindor, your native facility with the stones tell you that the small hole leads to some sort of hidden chamber - you're pretty sure with a big enough hit you could collapse the whole ceiling - and it's thin enough it wouldn't actually hurt anyone.
Dwalindor the Pahmet |
"Stand back all you bookworms! ."
Dwalindor spits on his palms, rubs them together then hefts the earthbreaker-lucern hammer known as Amanda-Lucile and gives the ceiling a wack.

"Huh . . . Great I'll bet there is a cult seeking to resurrect the Sky Pharoh and some secret organization dedicated to making sure he remains in his current state."
He looks up.
"What the? Alright, I'm going to back down the hall a little ways before you bring the house down on us."
Dwalindor the Pahmet |
Oh oh...

Thorrpe's Shadow |
Interesting. I heard you were the one getting poked...
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Tariq Ibn-Ziyad |
"Oh, you obviously don't have dwarves in the shadow realms. If they say a well hung human looks like a baby's arm holding an apple then a dwarf is more like a----wait? Did you hear that?"
Dwalindor the Pahmet |
Just keep out of the way....more stone may be coming down than I reconned for! Dwalindor tries to watch for falling stone.
DMummy |
The ceiling collapses - obviously designed for such a purpose - and the false stone rains down around Dwalindor.
Two hulking figures fall down with the ceiling and hiss audibly as they see you standing in the Vault perusing the scrolls within.

Ok, so Dwalindor still drops his weapon, but ignore the hits.
BAHHHHH! More death kittens! Keep them away from me!
Sadly, or fortunately, nobody in the current party was around when Dwalindor had his episodes with terror dolls/bunnies/kittens/chattering-teeth/masks or whatever.
