Grumblegrumble. I'll smear him next time.

No update tonight since the site will be down when I get home tonight. Sorry for the delay.

We could turn it around. Neile's about to go all waif-fu on these baddies.

Beast mode!

Kassen Battle Maps

Or not, only two of you are still standing.

As I said though, I'm not going to kill you all because I screwed up.

Female Samsaran Wizard (Pact Wizard) 1

Run? Where? We have a cripple a little bit back and a bunch of people on the ground who will (or based on the creatures we're fighting, should) get eaten if we leave them behind.

Even if Neile and Tehina run we'd have to leave the NPC's(minus Horgus) and our downed friends behind. The only possible win would be if Aravashniel suddenly appears to be a high level wizard that one shots the whole bunch, that or divine intervention.

Well, Salsa, I hope you've learned a valuable lesson in encounter design...

Kassen Battle Maps

Yeah, don't give monsters point buys.

Sorry guys, I hope you don't mind some GM intervention.

Well we didn't use our resources as effectively as we could

Female Samsaran Wizard (Pact Wizard) 1

We don't.

Sorry if I came over as aggressive in my previous post, wasn't my intention. Or actually it was at the time but it shouldn't have been, I'm sorry for that. It was more frustration than anything else.

Don't worry about it, Salsa. It was an easy encounter to goof up, especially with our outrageous power at level 1. I'm good.

The problem is, it's only our Offensive power that's outrageous. Defensively, except for Bimbur, we're actually pretty bog-standard for level 1. AC's are 19 or lower, excluding Bimbur. A few of us are at 14 hp, which is a little high for a group average, but not for a single PC.

Tactically, we're probably way worse off waiting for them to come to us at the doors...

Dwarf HP 11/11; AC 16/11ff/15t; Fort +4, Ref +4, Will +5 Init +4; Per+7/9stone CMD=17(21) Monk (Zen Archer) Perfect Strike 1/1

I'm good too. You know my home brews are on hard mode, but characters have bada$$ stuff too.

Characters can die. Hopefully we learn from this too.

We go in the room, we'd have to split up and it'd leave our flanks open, and it allows even more of them to attack at once. With their amped up to hit and damage stats, plus paralysis, plus the ghast's odor, plus the other thing in there, we were going to get overwhelmed. Not a big deal, it happens to all players/GMs at some point.

Kassen Battle Maps

Okay, I'll have something up later. This was my goof, and I'm not keen on killing characters this early in the game. Challenge, yes, but not TPKing on the second encounter.

Besides I picked you guys because I wanted to get your characters. If I kill them off this early that'd kinda defeat the purpose. When I kill off a character for real, I want it to be gut-wrenching. I don't think we're there yet.

Hindsight is 20/20...

If you can't survive not being flanked, it doesn't really matter if you get flanked.

On the other hand, if we're in place before Bimbur opens the door, and charge in the surprise round... Even beefed up like they are, Ulfr, Karas, and Rakeesh might be able to one-shot the ghouls. Carry that over into round 1, even if we just drop two or three, we're way better off.

Female Aasimar Warpriest/1 | HP 14| AC 19 | FF 14 | T 19 | Fort +7 | Ref +4| Will +7 | CMD 18| Init +6 | Perc +6 |

Well, yeah, they mowed through us in about one round, so flank or not didn't matter, but in general, not being flanked always beats getting flanked ;)

Kill enough of them in the opening salvo and you don't have to worry about being flanked.

Pathfinder generally rewards offense over defense, and that's doubly true right now with this group.

With mage armor I could have tanked them all at ac30 defensive and let the supports and adcs mop up.

But I may be the only lol player here.

I did put myself ten feet away to avoid a full attack, but they may have had pounce.

(I play LoL too)

Worst case scenario is most of the party just becomes undead and we continue on as good aligned abominations of nature.

Or is that the best case scenario...

Kassen Battle Maps

I'd call it a mid-case. Worst is five of you have to roll new characters.

That's interesting. My experience with tabletop (or pbp) is that as soon as you you become "unhittable", you become uninteresting to enemies. They just go around you to get to the squishies.

There's no real taunt/incite mechanic, so "tanking" becomes more about battlefield control than putting a meat-block in front of a baddie. In that sense, I think of Tehina more as a "tank".

Female Samsaran Wizard (Pact Wizard) 1

The only way to play a more mmo style tank is by playing a Barbarian and grabbing the Come and get me Rage Power.

Beyond that it tends to be like Rakeesh said, be unhittable and you get ignored.

Dwarf HP 11/11; AC 16/11ff/15t; Fort +4, Ref +4, Will +5 Init +4; Per+7/9stone CMD=17(21) Monk (Zen Archer) Perfect Strike 1/1

I did not see the ghouls as having a sophisticated strategy.

The unarmored dwarf does not in any way look unhittable.

Kassen Battle Maps

It honestly depends on the monster. An orc raider isn't necessarily going to behave in the same manner as the red dragon that's lived a thousand years. As Chainmail says, though, the ghouls didn't have much of a strategy, they just hit really hard.

Man, Neile is not having a good day. City in ruins, woke up in darkness, found some people who were actually nice to her (at least one of whom didn't think she was crazy), had a couple of breakdowns, then left her new friends to be eaten by ghouls.

I don't often want to give one of my own characters a big hug, but damn.

As for you guys currently with the ghouls? I'll be watching with popcorn.

Suspense...

Of course I'm quite confidant that after 4 rounds of completely ineffectual combat, and strength checks that reached 28, my one slightly better than mediocre Intimidate check will almost certainly save us all....

(<_<) (>_>) (o_O)

I would add a -10 circumstance modifier to intimidate checks by PCs that are completely restrained after you totally kicked their a$$. But that is me :-)

What's the Str check to tear a limb from a socket? I'm sure if Rakeesh and I each got one arm that we could get ourselves some improvised weapons.

What!?!? That is an outrageous abuse of the DM's priviledge! -9, maybe. But, -10? Unthinkable! :-P

I say it's improvised naturally. I mean, what else is a pseudo-barbarian to do when you take his weapons except go Chewbacca on you?
