Caine Battaglia |

Caine debates standing guard from his current vantage point where he could use his bow as necessary, but ultimately decides to join his fellow castaways at the ship.
Take 10, Climb: 10 + 3 = 13

Neltji |

As everyone starts to descend to the ship but Thorion Neltji taps them on the shoulder whispering, Good luck. Be safe.
Cast guidance on each in turn as they descend.
With Thorion stabilizing the rope eltji casts guidance on herself and slowly makes her way down the rope. Anthony also makes the descent easily his eyes watching in disapproval at how difficult the task is for her.
Take 10 for 10!

Neltji |

perception 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
As they descend Neltji listens to Rii-Chi and the others for notes on whatever may be useful on the island. As she is listening to them she pauses momentarily by the store room door. Any one hear that. It sounds like someone is scratching at the door. Maybe someone is trapped in there!
Neltji then hurries to the door to open it too concerned about helping to realize that it could be a critter causing the commotion.

Thorion Trepador |

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
After struggling with the difficult climb, Thorion stood quietly at the rear of the group. He observed the group’s posture and how each of the castaways work with the other. The group’s situation was one of unity under necessity, yet that didn’t mean everyone would work well with one another, nor did it mean that they wouldn’t. Thorion new his survival depended on the group’s dynamic and cooperative effort, yet he felt severely out of his element. Cautiously, he stood and observed as the wake of the sea began to build a rhythm of cascading waves that seemed to insist on dislodging what was left of the ship’s husk. The local gulls added to the ambiance with a chorus of their own, which made it difficult to hear anything beyond the serenade of the costal environment. Lost and a little confused, he stood patiently waiting for any indication on what he should do next.

Caine Battaglia |

perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Caine notices no scratching, but he still reacts to Neltji's move to the door. "Careful, Neltji, it could be a trapped animal. Open the door and move away. If you stay too close it might feel cornered."
He draws his sword to be ready for danger.

Rii-Chi |

Rii-Chi pauses a moment to listen and catches the sound too Take 10 for 16
Leaping to an exposed beam he dangles from the ceiling above the door, ready to drop down if something should threaten Neltji.

Munkustrap |

A dagger appears in Munkustrap's hands as if from nowhere. "Open the door, let us see what we have." Munkustrap tells Caine.

Mischa Catanarri |

Mischa wrote:"Of course. Can't any of you?"Gelik gestures to his fine clothes. Do I look like a servant?
Mischa raises an eyebrow, clearly thinking that Gelik is an idiot.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
"Agreed," Mischa remarks, nodding her head. She draws her scimitar and stands ready to defend herself.

Neltji |

As soon as the door opens Neltji peers into the room. The body of Alton Devers laid there with fresh blood on him. Not seeing any threat Neltji hurries over to him to try and staunch the wounds but soon realizes it is too late. Calling out to the others It is too late for the poor man. He was stabbed a while ago but it seems that poison from the stings is what killed him. If only we could have gotten to him sooner rest his soul. Neltji then hurries away from the recently deceased without checking to see if there is anything of use in the room as she is too distraught at the moment.

Rii-Chi |

Rii-Chi feels a moments pang as he see the first mate dead, the man was a good sailor and kind. The moment passes however and his natural practicality reasserts itself as he examines the room for anything that can be extracted and used.

Munkustrap |

"Poor bastard, looks like he never made it off the boat. Whoever poisoned us must have taken him out. We need to be on the lookout for someone with a blade ...." Munkustrap sheathes his blades in the blink of an eye. "Someone other than me that is. We must concentrate on the living, namely us, right now. Is there anything of use in this room?" Munkustrap starts to rummage around.

Caine Battaglia |

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
"I'll get him out of the way," Caine says as he takes hold of the mate's body and hauls him out of the storeroom. "Sorry, Neltji. I'll see if we can cover him up with something. But we need him out of the way of the search for supplies."
Caine then spends a moment or two looking for something, even a burlap sack, to put over the mate's corpse.

Thorion Trepador |

Thorion stood quietly behind the group as they evaluated the situation. Although the sight was gruesome, it wasn't a sight that the priest was unaccustomed to. After noting Neltji's evaluation, Thorion began scanning the area for any further hazards.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
"Remember, we are limited on time. We must collect what we can and move off of this sinking wreck."

DM RichD |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

You are able to search the wreckage of the vessel without incident. You find the following:
Supply Room: A search of the rest of the supply room turns up several tools and lumber that could come in handy in building a secure campsite: a block and tackle, three large canvas sheets, two fishing nets, a grappling hook, two bullseye lanterns, 12 flasks of lantern oil, 150 feet of hemp rope, and five shovels.
Captain’s Cabin: The captain’s cabin is a wreck—a jagged hole in the side has allowed most of the room’s contents to spill out into the surf and wash away. Yet even a cursory search reveals some useful supplies, most of which are found in an overturned desk (fortunately, the desk was too large to fit through the hole in the wall). One upper drawer contains several keys. Another drawer contains several sea charts and maps, along with the captain’s log. The maps include one of the west coast of Garund that plots the Jenivere’s route to and from Sargava—the island of Smuggler’s Shiv is not marked on this map, but it is marked on a second map of Desperation Bay, though the map provides no details on the island apart from its general outline and a note warning of danger.
A lower desk drawer is locked.
Finally, a large footlocker leaning against the desk contains Jask Derindi’s confiscated gear (confirmed by a ‘prisoner inventory’ list), including a masterwork dagger, a suit of leather armor, two potions of cure light wounds, a holy symbol of Nethys, and a spell component pouch.
The Captain’s Log: An examination of this log reveals that the Jenivere’s captain seemed to be suffering from some sort of madness that grew over the course of the ship’s final voyage. Earlier entries from previous voyages are precise in recording progress and events along the way, as are entries from the first two-thirds of this last trip. Yet as one reads further, the more recent the entries get, the less common they become—in some cases, several days are missing entries. What entries do appear are strangely short, focusing more and more on one of the passengers—the Varisian scholar Ieana, with whom the captain seems to have become obsessed. Several entries are nothing more than poorly written love poems to Ieana, while others bemoan Captain Kovack’s inability to please her or catch her attention. Near the end, the entries begin to take on a more ominous tone with the captain starting to complain that other members of the crew are eyeing “his Ieana.” In particular, he suspects his first mate is in love with her, and writes several times about how he wishes Alton would just “have an accident.” The final entry is perhaps the most disturbing, for in it the captain writes of how he’s changed course for Smuggler’s Shiv at Ieana’s request. He hopes that the two of them can make a home on the remote island, but also notes that the crew are growing increasingly agitated at the ship’s new course. The captain muses that “something may need to be done about the crew”if their suspicions get any worse.

Caine Battaglia |

"Let's try the keys in the locked drawer. One may fit - assuming the insane captain didn't take the matching key to a watery grave," Caine suggests.
Upon the revelations from the captain's log, "It looks like our 'humble Varisian scholar' was more than she professed to be. But most of the rest of our fate is still a mystery. Why drug us and haul us up on the beach alive? What wrecked the ship? The only strong answer we have here may be why the mate was stabbed," he says with frustration.

Mischa Catanarri |

As they search through the supply room, Mischa smiles. "This could be useful." She begins taking all she can and hauling it up onto the ship deck in preparation for transport back to the beach.
Are we going to have a group item list for this kind of supplies and anything we leave at camp?
---
"Well, this place is a wreck," Mischa remarks as she takes in the captain's cabin. "Oh, thank Desna the maps are still here!" She takes the maps and carefully places them in her backpack (adding the sea charts to my personal inventory).
She watches curiously as Caine tries out the keys on the locked drawer...
Looking at the articles in the footlocker, she remarks, "Huh... These must belong to Jask." She carefully takes his possessions and puts them into her backpack. "We'll need to return these to him."
As Mischa read the captain's log she looks very worried. "This is... Oh, my..." She continues reading with worry. "I thought something was off about Ileana... But the Captain? This sounds like he was positively obsessed with her. Delusional, even!"
She looks at Caine, "I imagine the Captain stabbed the first mate in the back for looking askance at Ileana. He was clearly far too over-protective of her." Mischa suddenly looks worried. "I've... seen relationships like that before. It's dangerous for the people around them..." Her voice trails off into silence. She shakes her head, banishing bad memories, then continues. "His log says the crew was distraught. If they noticed he was steering us to Smuggler's Shiv, they probably would have attempted mutiny. This island has a foul reputation and is known for causing shipwrecks." She gestures at the wrecked ship they find themselves upon. "I suspect he poisoned the crew to prevent them from interfering with his intended destination or overthrowing his captaincy. As for the ship wrecking, that's the island itself. The Jenivere didn't have a chance to make a safe landing, especially not with the crew incapacitated."
She turns thoughtful. "Of course, I have no idea who would fold up our gear on the beach.... That's just... weird."
"Something to ponder from a safer distance, perhaps?"
Mischa leaves the locked drawer to Caine and the others, and heads back upto the deck to start hauling their supplies onto the shore.
