Kurag Urlot III |

He was taken off guard by the sudden shower of thorns and paid the painful price. Kurag was also concerned for Bormann and Sergei up front in range of the tentacles but there was nothing to do about that now other than to try and put this creature down as quickly as possible. To that end...
Point blank precise rapid shot 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 for 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Yet the thorns pained him enough that he could barely pull back no the bow string.

Out of useful spells, BB fires his crossbow at the plant.

Kurag hopes to do better this time as he fires a pair of arrows at the behemoth.

Kurag's arrows were much more on target this time yet would it be enough to drop the creature before it threw any more thorns at them.

I think Bormann's DR saves him from a whopping 2 points of that heavy blow.

"Well, that was a hoot! Is anyone good at climbing? I've got some rope." He looks at the top of the mound and the treasure on top.
"If not, I have a scroll of Spider Climb I can use."
BB has a +6 to climb.

DM RichD |

Ok, Since it is summer and I think we all are a little busy. I am going to handwave you all getting and opening the chest.
Opening the chest, you find the following:
+1 ironwood breastplate,
+1 flaming mace,
10 +1 orc bane arrows,
a single orc slaying arrow,
a scroll of barkskin,
a scroll of call lightning,
a scroll of summon nature’s ally IV,
a wand of flaming sphere (9 charges),
a wand of greater magic fang (12 charges),
an ironwood crown with a stylized thorn motif (worth 250 gp),
a ceremonial gem-encrusted cudgel (worth 150 gp),
3 +1 Giant bane arrows,
100 arrows
3 pp,
178 gp,
605 sp,
2,125 cp.[/ooc]
You also find a beatifully engraved greataxe with scenes of dwarves fighting orscs and giants. In Dwarven is written the words 'Torag's Edge'.
When the wielder confirms a critical hit against any creature with the giant subtype, he can attempt to trip that target as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity and ignoring any size restrictions related to the target. If the trip attempt fails by 10 or more, the wielder is not knocked prone.
You all emerge from the Vault of Thorns where you see Ingrahild and another dwarf speaking. Apparently this dwarf was supposed to meet you back in Trunau, but just missed you and has been traveling ever since to catch up to you. He explains that he is on a quest from Torag himself. Sergei smiles knowingly as he too has dreamed. He thought it was the influence of the vault of Thorns, but now he knows it was Torag speaking to him as well. So ye are the one I am supposed to give this fine hammer to? It has served me well, an' I hope it serves ye as well. Torag is impressed with these druid's sacrifices and would like me to spend a year an' a day here in case any orcs come back. I bid ye farewell me friends.
You bid adieu to Sergei communicating with the Will-O'-Wisp known as Mossman.
The above is an outline of what happens with Sergei. Please add RP flavor to the treasure horde and the meeting of Rask.
Sergei will also leave his armor. Who wants it?
Hero Chieftain Uskroth wore a suit of armor that blessed him with enlarged size and great strength.
USKROTH’S ARMOR PRICE
11,350 GP
SLOT armor CL 5th WEIGHT 100 lbs.
AURA faint transmutation
This battered, well-used suit of +1 half-plate automatically resizes itself to match the size of its wearer. Once per day on command, the armor can bestow upon its wearer the effects of righteous might for
5 rounds. The wearer’s alignment determines the DR gained from this ability. A good wearer gains DR 5/evil, an evil wearer gains DR 5/good, and a wearer who is neither good nor evil chooses which DR to gain the first time she activates this ability—once chosen, it cannot be changed.

BB goes through some old-fashioned climbing. "Hehe, my sis would love getting her hands dirty." Upon opening the chest, he exclaims "Wow, what a haul!"
"I'm gonna miss this vault, even if it did try to kill us. Maybe one of us should stay behind, just in case?" BB pays attention again as Sergei mentions Torag's mission. "Sounds like you're volunteerin'. Thanks for catching that hag before we did something awful. Make sure her influence can't taint the vault again."
Turning to Ingrahild, BB asks her how long they've been gone. "When you travel to a new realm, time gets messy. I hope you've been alright."
He turns to the new dwarf and immediately offers a handshake. "Hi there! I'm BB. Well, I go by BB Beetle but you can call me BB."

Bormann Grimm |

Bormann picks up Torag's Edge, his hands stroking the handle with reverence. He runs a thumb along the blade, "Such magnificent sharpness! This is clearly an axe of great lineage and I would strive to be worthy of it. "Torag's Edge", eh? Well, Torag's Edge, once again you shall taste the blood of orcs and giants and any other enemies of dwarvenfolk!"
Yes, so, obviously, I want to carry Torag's Edge. I can't really do much with half-plate armor, so I suggest Greta wear it and take the flaming mace so that she can induce our enemies to feel the fire of the dwarven hearth.

Kurag Urlot III |

Kurag watches carefully as BB climbs up the heap of filth to get tot he chest. As he brings it down Kurag has his bow drawn back in case anything else appears to threaten them. It is with a sigh of relief though that BB gets down safely. Moving over to the chest he gives it the once over looking for traps before declaring it safe. As BB got the chest he let him open it. The first thing that Kurag saw were the magnificent arrows with razorsharp arrow heads. These are amazingly crafted and imbued. I would gladly like to use these.
The rest of the items he did not pay much attentionto until BB stated that he could not use them. I may be able to put them to use once I get a bit more accustomed to my walk with nature.
Kurag has no issue with Bormann claiming the greataxe. I think it was made for you
Outside of the Druid's Recluse Kurag noticed the other dwarf immediately. AS Sergie and him seemed to have an immediate bond Kurag was at ease with the new arrival. Welcome brother. My name is Kurag Urlot III of Trunau. Your presence is a boon in this place as we have been sorely beset upon by foes. I am doubly glad that you are here to join us if Sergei is taking a holy vigil to guard this place and restore it to its former condition. Ingrahild, are staying as well?

Greta Bolkasdottir |

Greta smiles at the newcomer, but hugs Sergei tightly before he leaves. "Bolka's blessing go with you, Sergei. I know we will meet again." She kisses him on the cheek.
Turning to the newcomer, she smiles again. "I am Greta Bolkasdottir. I am happy to meet you and gladdened that you have finally found us!"
I'm happy to take the flaming mace and will take the armor if no one else needs it?

Rask Hammersong |

For a moment, Rask eyes glaze over slightly in admiration as he inspects Agrimmosh, then he replies to Sergei, "thank you for the hammer. Torag himself may have slightly understated its beauty in my vision. I was also told to give you my hammer as its replacement for now."
To the others, BB, Bormann, Kurag and Greta, "well met all of you. My name is Rask Hammersong, from the village of Embla, in the underdark. I received a vision some time back that led me here to you and this amazing hammer. I am a crafter of weapons, specializing in hammers of all sorts; member of the militia and now Torag has granted me Paladin status in this fight. Although I need to be here, I do not know the mission, would one of you enlighten me as to where we are going and what we are doing?"
Gives +1 warhammer to Sergei
He is currently wearng plate mail armor, carrying a shield and a warhammer. A backpack shows under his cloak.

DM RichD |

Ingrahild will volunteer to keep Sergei company in case her brother has escaped and makes his way to here.
Bidding the couple adieu, you all head back to the rendezvous point where Captain Bloodtusk and his crew are waiting. he momentarily looks puzzled at the new dwarf, but shrugs his shoulders and mutters Dwarves! They all look alike!
Lucky is happy to see Kurag's return and he can tell that the crew has not been giving him the same amount of care and attention that Kurag had.
It takes about five days to reach the point where the captain will drop you off. During that time you fill Rask in on the adventures thus far and BB writes some scrolls.
On the morning of the sixth day, the captain pulls ashore and puts you all off. Redlake Fort is about 10 miles that way. He says with a point. May whatever gods you dwarves pray to be with you! He says with a shake of his head. Take care of my half-uncle's brother's horse! he adds to Kurag.
A few minutes, the boat disappears on the swift flowing river.
Off to the fort?

BB spends more time cooking, practicing his magical might, and recording the strange creatures he saw.
Spider Climb, DC 17: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Tongues, DC 18: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Phantasmal Killer, DC 19: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
BB has no trouble learning the Tongues and Phantasmal Killer spells (although he doesn't like the illusory basics on principle,) but Spider Climb evades him yet again. He sighs and decides to study it again later.
"Welp, thanks Captain. I must say, it was a pleasure sailing with you-" BB watches the boat already make its way down river. "I guess he was in a hurry, eh? Let's go."

Kurag Urlot III |

Before the Captain leaves Kurag approaches the man and inquires if he has any spare arrows for sale. He cringes inwardly as he knows that they might have a steep price to them. Yet he went through almost 2 quivers already and needed them badly. As to Lucky, Kurag met the fine horse with a loving hug and an apple he had been saving for him. Captain, I will take care of him. Make sure you tell your grandmother's niece's cousin thanks for me as well.
Willing to pay up to 5gp per quiver if necessary to restock.
Once his negotiations with the Captain are finished Kurag saddles up Lucky and it seems that they have a stronger bond now than before. Lucky responds to nonverbal commands as if he knows what to do. Mounted Kurag looks at the direction the Captain pointed. 10 miles you say. Well we should be able to make it in short order then. Not too fast though as we don't want to run into an ambush or anything like that.
Looking at the group Kurag ponders them a moment before asking, You guys good if I ride out with Lucky and scout the perimeter while you are hike along? Anything amiss I will head right back to you and anything big enough like those drakes you will see as well.
Thinking a scouting range of 200ft should be good. That means with a run action by Lucky we will be back with the in short order.
