As Ardashir is directed to take the lead, he moves with a renewed vigor to leave this place as Lanneth suggests. Upon touching the first step a thick oppressive fog surrounds the party cutting off all sight. A raspy voice sounds out. "Leaving so soon children, I will take what you found with me."

The fog obscures all sight, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. A creature within 5 feet has concealment (attacks have a 20% miss chance). Creatures farther away have total concealment (50% miss chance, and the attacker can’t use sight to locate the target).
That shouldn't be a hindrance to walk along a wall to the door.
