When the boat gets within 60', Kast will ask Sarenrae for *the* sight.

"My Catrenrae's Light, let me cat this right," Cats says, detecting evil.


The Mariner steers the Starling close enough for Cats to get a better "look" at the fishermen. He asks for Sarenrae's guidance, but her response is akin to a divine shrug.

No evil detected.

"Nah, it's all cat...let's see if we can help," Cats says, trusting in Sarenrae.

"Catwin! Move us closer," Cats asks to the halfling. "They might cat help." Kast does this without even thinking about what the old Kast would have done, what Kast who kept company with the red head would have done, but no, he just thinks about what would be right in Sarenrae's light.

"Bring us in closer, Skywin." the Mariner looks on without much suspicion. As far as he calculates, no one has beaten the Starling here from Razmiran. Unless it was done by magical means, an ambush was very unlikely, even more unlikely from a scuttled boat.

Brother looks out to the sea. His eyes scan the area - spending some time on the 4 fishermen.

I'll be below deck!
He turns on his heels and heads to the galley so he can pull rum rations. He also thinks if there might be a bottle stashed in the captains cabin, but that's where he's been sleeping, so he is fairly certain it's barren of booze.


Skywin navigates closer to the fishing vessel, sliding up alongside it. The fishermen cheer in joy.

"Ahoy!" One of the men calls out with a broad smile as if seeing old friends. "So few come willingly to their baptism and rebirth! Today must be a blessed day for our lord of the Sellen! Praise Hanspur!"

"Praise Hanspur!" The other men call in unison. One raises his right hand, followed by his left, followed by the next man's right hand, then left, followed by the third man's right hand, then left.. almost like some sort of celebratory wave.

"OOooohkaaay!" the leader claps his hands and looks at the Watchmen. "So, who wants to drown first?"

@Cats: apparently there's a fine line between divine madmen and evil murderers.

Religion DC 13:

Hanspur was once a mortal man who was drowned by a travelling companion. Gozreh intervened and preserved part of Hanspur's soul in his dire rat companion. After a week, Hanspur rose from the Sellen River as a demigod with a fractured soul. It is unknown if Gozreh intended to raise him as a divine being or as a mere guardian of the waterways, but the result was a cult of that likes to think they are doing their god's work in drowning other travelers. Who knows, maybe they'll return too!

Hanspur is worshiped as the god of the watery domains of the Sellen River and considers himself lord of all who travel his domain. As a travel god, his shrines always lie just outside the town gates. Despite this, he is still paid at least lip service by the peoples of the River Kingdoms, as he smites those who displease him by sinking their boats and flooding their lands. Hanspur considers dams that completely block a river to be unnatural.

"What?" Cats seems very perplexed by what he is hearing. "Drowning? Oh no, we're good, thanks. No cat you."

Cats says, trying to keep his distance.

What is the map situation like? Are they close? On board? Still on their vessel? 30' away?


The fishing boat is about 10 feet away. A good jumper could leap the distance.

Cats raises his bow to make his point. ”Like I said, we don’t need no drowning. And if you guys are fine here, we’ll just move on.”

Jasper find that second cup and exalts.
Quickly filling it up and personifying each cup with a name:

Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru.
Yeah, those are good names.

Jasper's normal happy voice echoes in the galley, Come in, Welcome to our counseling session. What appears to be the problem?

Impersonating a male voice - Uncle Owen obviously- he replies to himself, She is a terrible old shrew.
Brother brings the cup dubbed Uncle Owen to his lips and takes a pull from the beverage container.

In a feminine voice, Jasper replies, and then drinks from the Aunt Beru cup,
He's a lazy bastard that's gained 50 pounds since we've been married. Sitting on his ass all day.

One arm swivels down ward and the other arm swivels upward to his lips.

You'd be tired and resting too if you had to work as hard as I do! The non-existent Uncle Owen complains an image of a creaky back and arthritic hands coming to mind just by the tone of the voice.

Great Desna you are a liar! It's like you've got a case of Calistra. For YOU don't know hard work, I know hard work as I have to raise 8 kids.

This back and forth goes on a couple more times until both cups are empty.
Once deserted of fluid, Jasper's normal voice returns. He exclaims, Ah! Wasn't that a good counseling session. Now don't all of us feel much better after that marvelous display.

The warmth of the quickly drank rum already starting to spread across his body.

"Excellent idea!" The leader of the fishermadmen exclaims, then orders two of the others to toss in the third. They happily oblige.

Inside the cabin... Brother Butterfly notices something flail past a porthole.

Outside...

"Hail Hansprblurbbbrrbblleee..." Cries the third man as the water swallows him.

Fighting crazy with crazy, Fearless unleashes his brain on the others, battering them about and knocking another one into the lake.

Cats follows releases his bowstring and decorates the leader's shoulder with an arrow.

Not to be deterred, two fishermen call out to their lord of rivers, chanting a litany of destruction.

While there's movement across the port hole, it doesn't seem to actually catch the attention of Jasper. There's even a loud racket happening, but Brother Butterfly is just too engrossed in his *drinking counseling* session to really notice.

I imagine what he was doing would have taken at least 3 rounds.

Suddenly, two river sharks come shooting out of the water. They thrash and snap their teeth and Cats feels his bow vibrating in his hands.

At the same time a groaning of wood issues from behind the ship..

”Captain, something’s wrong with the rudder!” Skywin calls out from her place at the wheel.

Inside the cabin, Brother Butterfly was just about to enjoy his cup of tea when the ship lurches to the left!

Jasper slips and slides all over the bucking Starling. The lost contents of the Uncle Own and Aunt Beru cups are splattered on the wooden deck of the galley. BB notices with some internal warmth that the quantity of liquid spilled was not so much.

He leans down and takes off both of his fine, and well crafted shoes.
Holding them in his hand as he forcibly swings open the galley door to see the rest of the ships main deck.
Damn it Captain Mariner! You need to steer this ship better.
AND I need Fearless to look at the magic on these boots because they sure as heck aren't Boots of the Tightrope Walker or Boots of Sure Footing!

Brother Butterfly probably should be noticing the Priests, and the sharks, and the general mayhem. Instead, he is more engrossed in the spilled tea and the fact he's had magical boots for 3 months --but still doesn't know what they do!
I've acted for 2 rounds, skip me for next round.


Brother Butterfly looks out upon a chaotic scene where the Watchmen seem to be partaking in some pretty extreme fishing.

Up on the poop deck the Mariner looks overboard at the rudder and discovers it strangely warped. A shark swims around near it, a big toothy grin on its face.

Meanwhile, Cats and Fearless take down the cultist on the fishing boat.

One of the sharks dips out of sight below the surface of the lake. The other thrashes about, making odd noises.

”Of course shrieking eels would surround our boat! But why aren’t they going after the easily bloodied bodies that we just peppered with arrows? They are right there!” Cats complains, seeing no need to go into the water and address the eels.

Brother Butterfly joins the party on deck in time to see the Mariner, Fearless, and Cats bow-fishing over the railing, apparently hunting the elusive river shark, rumored to inhabit the lakes and rivers of the northlands.

"Hi there!" The soggy man grins at Brother Butterfly. "Hop in, the water's fine!"

Cats recognizes the man next to Brother Butterfly as one of the fishermen that was tossed overboard by his own crew a short time ago.

Cats and the Mariner fire a hail of arrows at the man on deck, but somehow every single one misses. The man looks about in disbelief, then shouts in joy. "Hanspur has spoken! I am invincible!"

He lunges at Brother Butterfly, trying to grab and drag him overboard.

You want someone to go overboard and swim with the fishes? That shouldn't be a problem, I think this big lug here will be a perfect candidate to meet your goals.

Fearless looks down at Brother Butterfly. "Would you quit playing. If the Gods were out there do you think they would all of this happen to us?" He taps his head with his finger. "Why would the gods have allowed us to be locked up?" Fearless seems more angry at the world than the crazed man trying to ram Brother Butterfly off of the ship.

A finicky god, Hanspur’s favor comes and goes like flotsam on the river, which is where the fisherman ends up, floating away with arrows in his chest and brains oozing from his ears.

Of the shark there is no sign.

Skywin pulls hard on the tiller, cursing Hanspur’s name as she struggles to keep the ship on course.

”Damn you Hanspur, you bildge-rat god! Captain, the ship’s rudder is badly warped. I think we’re going to need to take a day in a port to fix it. Otherwise we’re limited to starboard-only tacking. I hate to suggest it, but I think our only option is to make for Riverton. We should be able to get there by tomorrow afternoon.”

Knowledge Local DC 18:
Riverton is a town on the east banks of the lake. It was founded 50 years ago by a priest of Hanspur named Naerel Twice-Born (known as the “River Prophet”) who has a reputation for being a zealot.

The only laws in Riverton are the erratic decrees of Naerel. Despite this, Riverton is a fairly safe port, as visitors seeking river guides or Naerel’s advice are frequent, but the citizenry’s zeal for pestering visitors to convert to their god discourages lengthy stays.

There's a warmth in his stomach, a ruddy red on his cheeks.

Jasper wants to drop Mariner in the water, he thinks it'd be funny. But, he also knows Mariner isn't going to be happy with a warped rudder.
His mind leaps forward to suggest that Desna can counteract that Bilge-Rat god with her being a true GOD (with a Capital G and O and D for good measure). The words almost escape his lips when he closes his mouth. He WANTS to go to port. He WANTS to go to this Riverton and pick up a supply of real drink. Not that watered down Rum.
Make Whole. Just ask for the blessing and skip the madness that a days delay with certainly bring.
The thought lingers in his mind but he wants more alcohol.

Forgetting about tossing Mariner off the ship to plunge in the water, BB says, Yes- Riverton. The Sullen Starling needs fixing.

"You were serious about that?" the Mariner points to the swirling waves where the grinning sharks disappeared, also suddenly realizing that Fearless already scolded the master baiter moments earlier about jumping into the waters. "Wait..." the Mariner sniffs at Brother's collar, "...Are you f#$#ing drunk?"

Now resisting the urge to toss Butterfly for a cold shower too, he turns away and nods at Skywin, "Riverton."

He lets out this nonsense and realizes, yeah. He drank a bit too much. That was fairly stupid to say.
Thankfully, the others seem to fixate on Riverton and a Hanspur Zealot. Not on him.

Are we going to get attacked there too?” Cats looks at Brother, remembering what happened with Razmirians. ”I swear to Catna that if I get a knife in my back from a pack of your wanton leftovers, I’m going to take it out and deliver it right to your kidneys.”

Cats will loot the bodies of the non-evil murderous cultists, then toss them in the waters and to their shark gods as food.

”Let’s get on with it. As usual, I’ll be on the poop deck or in the cat’s nest.”
