The Mariner stabs the Smilodon a couple times, mixing its blood with his own.

Brother Butterfly channels to heal the mass of injuries the Watchmen are collecting.

Cat stabs in desperation, inflicting another small wound to his adversary.

Fearless concentrates and batters the tiger's mind with psychic energy. It shakes it's head, withstanding some of the attack.

Nestor Concentration: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30

Nestor cries out in the effort to harness the energy of his spell. In a sudden burst the flames leap from his hands and race around in a wide circle, burning tiger and humanoids both.

Nestor has created a wall of fire basically on top of everyone. Since the tigers are large sized there is a chance he can hit them and avoid the PC they are grappling with. He's intentionally avoiding himself, but I'll give everyone 50% chance to avoid roasting from the initial flame.

The tigers hiss and growl as the flames scorch them. Most release their prey and bound away from the source of their pain. The biggest one, however, grabs the Mariner and drags him into the heat-free center of the ring of fire.

Is Mariner still grappled?
Is Mariner also Prone from being dragged? It's very important to my action. I also looked to try and grant Freedom of movement to Fearless, but it's a touch spell. Ugggh.

Brother Butterfly turns around to face the area outside the ring of fire. The area where the tigers are. Where Fearless is being held within one of it's claws.
He pulls out a potion from his bag and holds it out with the label clearly marked Cure Moderate Wounds. It's healing beckoning to those that might need it.

Desna is holding back their visciousness, but only as long as you all don't attack. It is wise to drink this potion I'm holding and heal yourselves as quick as possible. I'm not certain how long with cease-fire will last.

Fearless, I am staring at a rather large wall of fire in front of my face. I have no CLUE what is happening to you *over the hedge* so I suggest you brave the burning fire and get your half rump-ling butt over to the hot but safe center of this ring. Either that or get away to the ship.
My focus may or may not keep the animals at bay for much longer.


"Hold on if you can! I'll send help!" Nestor begins casting a spell.

The tigers mill about, watching the fire. The smilodon sits back on its haunches and licks the Mariner's blood from its paw.

The one aggressive tiger looks over at Fearless and begins stalking forward like a cat stalks a mouse.

Sorry, I’m very confused by where were all are as opposed to the bad cats. Can Cats engage? Is there a way down to Fearless? Does Cats have a clear shot? Are there foes in or outside a wall of fire?

Brother laughs. He finds it hard to concentrate on keeping everyone calm, but he does have enough mentally compartmented to still shake the outstretched hand that is holding a full and amazing Cure Serious Wounds potion that everyone in the circle could take and use, especially a raging Mariner low on HP's.

Cats moves to the side of the big ass real cat, and readies a mighty strike should the cat turn violent again (or someone else attack the cat).

Brother's eyes get a bit glassy as he concentrates, but the ideas of how his future painting are going to look start taking over more and more of his "memory process". A smile crosses his face as he pictures Fearless's reaction more than the quality or interpretation of the *Art* itself.
His level of glee is off the charts at the discomfort Fearless will have.

Ah.... a three panel piece is going to be perfect! Each panel will hold it's own independent painting that runs off the theme "Roast or fire".
the first is exactly what I see here, a frazzled halfling staring down the threat of a huge tiger with a wall of fire at his back. A cornered Fearless exasperated at his choices in life. The second picture will be one of Fearless tied to a fire spit being "Roasted". With half doppleganger/half myself setting the dinner table and with Nestor being the one turning him over the fire. A speech bubble saying something like, " and tonight's meal
actually thought he *happened upon me all tied up and in need of help* on accident!!! (laughing can almost be heard just from the facial expression of Nestor and Goppleganger BB)." Little did he know we've been hunting together for years! "

The third one needs more background to flesh out. But he certainly wants Fearless sitting in a chair on a performance stage with tons of people in the audience and other important people all cracking jokes about him - thus another interpretation of the word "Roast". His problem is...he can't think of anyone who's actually funny.

It's amazing how much can go through a man's brain in only 6-12 seconds, but BB's a smart guy, his brain's faster than most.

Fearless pats out some smoldering points in his hot pants to smother the embers. "Last painting I got was of your bare ass. And it went right into the fire!" In truth Fearless has kept the marvelous collection in his sack and will likely add to it with the new memories.


Fire Damage: 2d4 + 9 ⇒ (4, 4) + 9 = 17

Brother Butterfly concentrates - mostly on daydreaming, and a little in his spell.

The Mariner downs a potion while Cats maneuvers into a better position.

Getting a bit flame-broiled in the process, Fearless dives through the wall to relative safety.

Going to assume Cats waits until the Mariner or someone else is actually ready to attack again? Otherwise you’d break the Smilodon out of the calm spell while half the party is at less than half hp.

Nestor completes his spell - outside the ring of fire a giant wasp appears and swoops down at the one tiger still showing aggression. He then grabs a potion of his own and drinks it, healing some of his wounds.

Brother continues to quasi daydream. He still hold out the Cure Serious Wounds potion for someone to take. Even shaking it to get someone's attention to grab it.

Contingent: If someone takes the potion and starts to down it,
Brother stops concentrating. Yells out, Attack now! and lets loose a ring of healing energy on those inside (selective channel to omit the Smilodon).

Cats delays until some gets into flank, not attacking until he is sure he has an advantage. But then he will (or if the beast is already FF’d).

The Mariner drinks another potion as Brother Butterfly moves to flank with Cats, releases his spell, and channels healing energy.

The smilodon looks at Cats like a kitten looking to its master for petting.

Cats kills it.

Meanwhile, Fearless lets loose a burst of missles that fly out to strike the other tigers beyond the flaming wall.

"I can do that too!" Nestor calls out in excitement and casts a spell that peppers one with similar force.

Magic Missiles at Yellow: 5d4 + 5 ⇒ (3, 1, 4, 1, 3) + 5 = 17

Wasp: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

The tiger staggers, then is stung to death by the giant wasp.

With two of their pack dead, the remaining tigers turn and bound away.

Cats takes a knee waiting for the wall of fire to disburse. He looks at the bleeding smilodon and if he feels any kinship with the bigger cat, he does not show it.

He waits.

::Brother Catterfly Inner Monologue::

A turgid, languorous feeling comes over Brother Butterfly. It was the kind of feeling that overcomes you after a near death experience or extremely satisfying poop...the kind of thing you feel every once in a long while but not everyday.

Brother smiles upward to the stars, both hoping for guidance by the star's light, and also for the feeling of a fresh shave of one's scotum: aka, the proof of the divine.

Brother Butterfly holds his holy talisman aloft, so others might see and rejoice in the beatific imagery, but certain that few know the pure pleasure of a shorn genital pouch because that is his personal knowledge that he shares only with Desna.

As the talisman hits its apex, so does the holy energy that is released...much like that of a freshly opened package of shaving gel. Brother Butterfly can imagine the scents of aloe and vera amongst the divine energies that are released by this actions.

As Fearless' burns subside he looks up higher. "everyone good to keep going and get the f**~ out of here as soon as possible?"


The zoogs wanted fresh feline meat. You have two big tigers here that qualify.


"Open that magicked back up Brother, and throw these kittens in there. Let's hand it off to the creepy rats."

Fearless facepalms himself as it didn't even put the simplest thing together. It is almost as if he had some sort of divine intervention. "Hey, Those zoogs wanted some feline meat! We can take them some of these." Fearless grabs two handfuls of cat.

Cats, realizing that Fearless might be right, begins to help strip down the big cats. He's not a good butcher, or even a good cook, or skinner but he has a knife and is willing to get dirty.

He scrapes away fur and skin so that there is meat for the zoogs. He will help carry large sections wherever it is needed.

Brother donates his bag of holding to the endeavor, but does not get involved. That...that right there... is work. Something BB tries hard to avoid.
We aren't done people. We have to track down this huntress for our new friend and fellow Noble acquaintance. So, all needs to be on guard and no wounds.
Brother looks to see how he can give Mariner some more healing to pump him up.
I'll review my available spells, as I don't want to burn too much yet. Might use a couple potions instead.


Though he doesn’t have much skill in it, Nestor aids in dressing the tiger meat as best he can. During the process he offers a few prayers to honor the beasts, even though they very nearly killed and ate the group. However, when Brother Butterfly suggests continuing on to find the huntress, Nestor waves the idea away.

”I appreciate your offer, but after encountering these tigers I suspect my quarry has either left the area, or was never here. There is no way she would have passed up the opportunity to hunt these magnificent creatures. I’ll need to retrace my steps and see where her path may have diverged. That could take days, or even weeks! No, no, let’s get your business handled and I’ll be on my way.”

Returning to the zoogs, the Watchmen offer you the tiger meat and are given a mottled blue-and-purple pard tail in exchange.

Okay then, BB uses up all his spells to pump Mariner and Fearless to max.

Brother finishes healing his fellow Watchmen and Nestor.
Well, I wish there was a way to help you in your hunt. If we encounter her, The Watchmen will be sure to put her down with extreme prejudice. Oh, by the way, We are called The Watchmen. Consider us friends for the future and don't hesitate to call on us if you find a need!

Brother sees that we got our Pard tail and he concentrates on returning to the Ship.

Fearless concentrates and returns to the ship. He holds the Pard tail and wiggles it in the air. "Two horcrux down! Just have to research the rest of them now." Fearless flops down into his bed and immediately begins snoring loudly, his body beaten and battered.

Cats looks at the strange tail.

"Is that what we catted here to get?" Cats seems confused, but will trust Fearless if he things so. "Not sure what a horcrux is, but if that's what one is, then a horcrux is a mottled tail, I see."

Cats looks to Butterfly, making sure the man is ready to leave and end the hunt.

"Are we ready to go? We didn't cat the mystery of the silverware in the forest, not what happened to me, nor what happened to the lady he was tracking, but if we can cat the cat out of here, we should."

If people agree, Cats will start to wake himself up.

Yes Cats- 3 items of magic or mystery. Those are mysteries that I will bubble in my brain while drinking my share of rum rations.

BB tries to figure out what a horcrux is, but not wanting to admit to not knowing sage like things, he decides he'll try breaking down it's word origins later.

He de-materializes from the land of dreams.


With another gift collected for the Mad Poet, the Watchmen depart the Dreamlands and wake in the cabin of the Sellen Starling. Outside the portholes dawn is peeking over the horizon.

Fearless dives back into Lowls' research while the ship sails on downriver. A few days later the river empties into Kallas Lake. On the far side is a sizable town called Riverton where you might trade and buy supplies, but before you reach it lookouts spy something deserving of attention.

Hmmmm... anyone else notice something *fishy* about those four?
Brother says purposely trying to make a pun, and at the same time not exactly interested in helping low lifes like fisherfolk.

Jasper thinks about spells he might want to cast to keep himself clean and smelling Fresh as a daisy. He also thinks of protection spells.

Fearless leans on the railing as sounds of calling for help rise him from his sleep. "You know..." He yawns. "Every time we have stopped to help we have been nearly killed. Should we maybe just keep going. I don't trust them."
