I too vote to try to befriend the Mongrelmen. They are not usually evil and are more victim that threat. Perhaps we could call upon them for aid, and maybe help them in return.
Lirrathan
Lirrathan nods, "Well, alright, if they're friendly and could help, I'll find them. I mean heck, I'd never heard of them before. As much as I knew, Terry here could have been a mongrelman and I wouldn't have been the wiser. In fact before now, if someone had asked what a mongrelman was, I would have just pointed at him. You learn something new every day." He replies in response to Terry's answer.
He will follow the tracks.
Mirel
Mirel steps next to Terry. "I agree. We should try to talk to them and get directions out of here. Hopefully they are not looking for a fight."
DM Pendin Fust
Aravashnial: "Mongrelmen should be able to be trustworthy...Kenabres legend has it that they were the children of First Crusaders who were exposed to dark energies. These things were not understood very well back then. Perhaps what vestige of humanity is left in them will make them somewhat peaceful...although theirs is a short and violent lifespan normally."
Arcessentes
I could use a scale power to get up there if we need to do so. But if someone can climb it would save that power for later use.
So, who has what scale? I am unsure if picking up two has permanently barred Terry from ever using one or if one will work once he sets the other down. And does everyone have a scale? I also would like to know if they are in effect bonded to us, or if we can voluntarily trade them. If we are unsure IC can a knowledge roll help and what does Aravashnial think?
DM Pendin Fust
The scales do not feel as though they are bonded to you. I'm sure Terry will find out if he's permanently barred...mwahahahahaha!
And this of course is all supposing that Lirrathan came back and told everyone what's there. :)
Aravashnial: "I have a spell that can levitate it, but I am loathe to use it on a trivial task. And I would need some exact description so I can picture it without my eyes. I would suggest mundane means of accomplishing the task though."
Lirrathan
Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Lirrathan is focused on the trail itself, and ends up blocking out most other stimuli. Seeing it turn back toward their original direction, he continues forward, hoping the others keep up with him at the distance he had asked. Seeing the hanging pack, his curiosity gets the better of him, was this guy going up with it, or for it? It's worth a look.
Climb 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Mirel
I do not have a scale... but would like one :)
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
"Does anyone think we need any of these items? And, oh! Look at this brooch!"
Terry the thief
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
"Well, we have nothing. Bad gear is better than no gear. Worst case, the blanket could become bandages. Not that they're clean, mind you."
Terry's convinced there's nothing good going to happen for him from the scales at this point. He's not going to read your mind about wanting one of the ones he's carrying, though.
Mirel
and since no one has in character said anything about them, or that they do anything, she isn't gonna say anything about them :p
Arcessentes
Ok. Seems like a wizardly thing to bring up anyway. As the ranger climbs up the stone slope Arcessentes asks the group about the scales. We need to discuss the silver dragon scales. I think they are a gift from Terendelev herself and potentially our best chance at survival. We should try to catalogue what power each grants. The one I hold allows me to levitate into the air three times a day, while creating a column of obscurement below me. It is truly a wonder. Has anyone else else been able to discern what their scale does?
Lirrathan
"Uhh... yeah *huff* I told you.... all... *hurghn* what mine did." Lirrathan manages as he fights his way up the stony surface.
Lirrathan did say his scale had powers, with a 19 Bluff to boot, and he's sticking to it.
Arcessentes
Right, which is what we get when our DM allows a CN party member into the group. Just know that if the wizard finds out you have lied to him he will respond like lawful wizards do when lied to. Our DM has asked we work as a party in this AP and OOC I am beginning to feel that you want nothing to do with that notion.
Mirel
You are right, Lirrathan, I forgot about that. My apologies. :)I also missed Arcessentes's in character reference to them...
"I do not have one of these scales. But, I understand that you and Lirrathan each found one. Did anyone else? What sort of powers do these other ones grant?"
DM Pendin Fust
Lirrathan
As Lirrathan gets to the bottom, he digs through the bag real quick, seemingly bored by most of the contents. Until finally he drops the bag and pulls out two small vials of liquid. "Oooh, sweet, what do these do?" He asks, holding them up in front of Arc. Wizards know stuff like that, too bad the blind one can't tell me.
Looking at the bag, he adds while toeing it toward the others, "There's some useful stuff there too, probably be worth holding onto for whoever wants it. The rations at least."
Feel free to read his spoiler above for the bag's actual contents.
Terry the thief
After Mirel takes the offered scale, Terry slowly falls to his knees, crying. Then, quicker the he fell, he looks up,stands up, and seems ot have recovered.
"That's not normal. This scale is protective, but the emotional cost for picking it up seems awfully high."
Looking over the material that Lirrathan tossed aside . . ..
"Well, these arrows could be very useful if things go badly. The ones I have with me won't last through much in the way of combat. Heck, everything here is useful for our survival. That material makes water our worst problem, doesn't it?"
Mirel
Mirel falls to her knees, tears welling in her eyes, as she accepts the scale. "You are right, Terry. The magic in these scales must be infused with the emotions of Terendelev as the mighty dragon was slain by the Storm King."
DM Pendin Fust
Assuming Arcessentes uses detect magic and takes long enough to successfully examine the potions: 1 potion of cure light wounds and 1 potion of lesser restoration.
Arcessentes
Yes, of course. He was waiting for the Lirrathan to climb down.
After being passed the potions to examine the wizard casts Detect Magic and studies them. a moment passes before he pronounces that they are curative in nature. The first is a Cure Light Wounds potion and the second is Lesser Restoration.
I will recommend we use the potion to get the other wizard so that he can see. He is a fairly powerful caster, compared to me anyway. Thoughts?
DM Pendin Fust
Whoever made that heal check a while back would probably realize that the damage is pretty severe. I'm not going to stop you from using either potion on him....
Terry the thief
Burning whip to the eyes? I'm thinking a regeneration spell is required. Even a ring wouldn't work, since it wasn't being worn when the damage happened. Nasty injury, to be sure.
If the eyes are not considered lost, than a Remove Blindness would work, which is low-enough level to be a potion . . ..
DM Pendin Fust
The eyes are indeed gone in the burned out and seared lump of scarring that is now his face.
Lirrathan
Lirrathan had climbed down before he went through the bag.
Excited, and watching eagerly, Lirrathan eyes the whole process of identifying the potions. He is crestfallen, however, when he learns what they are, "That's it? Well, that's not exciting. I thought it coulda been something to make me twice my size, or float, or even invisible. Healing is just kinda boring. Oh well, grab whatever your taking from the stuff, I don't think I really need any of it. The backpack is pretty nice, but some of you with weaker frames probably need a sturdier bag than I do." With that he gets back to what he was doing, wandering a little ways ahead, scouting out the passage that it looks like the two tunnels became.
Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 (Low-light)
Stealth 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Silent Hunter: Reduce Steath penalty for moving by -5
Arcessentes
I do not mind holding these potions for the group. pronounces. Someone should grab the caltrops and be ready to use them if we need to fortify a position. (Are there two bags? Not sure what a set is.)
The wizard falls in behind Lirrathan, leading his blind charge and directing his dancing lights to lead the way. He can keep them enough ahead of Lirrathan so that the ranger is in dim light, or he can keep them behind the ranger for the same effect. The latter would better help the humans in the party that lack low light vision.
Lirrathan
As Lirrathan sees the lights go between their different positions, he waves them back toward the others, displaying a preference.
He would rather the lights were back with the others instead of in front of him.
DM Pendin Fust
Lirrathan
Lirrathan tries to signal back what can at best be the crude representation of what he sees or hears. Oddly enough he just wriggles one of his arms, in a manner that almost looks like a tentacle. Having stated what he thought was a clear indication of what lie ahead he moves forward with his blades at the ready.
Bluff to pass secret message 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9, and fail.
DM Pendin Fust
!! An octopus?! AHAHAHAHAHHA!!!
Lirrathan, Terry, and Mirel take a round of action and then the snake will go. If it's still alive after that then I will roll init for everyone.
Lirrathan
Lirrathan considers trying to convince the thing to just go away, being as it's just a hungry animal and all. Then again, it would also serve to feed them, and makes for a decent meal when prepared right. Besides, he didn't get to have any fun with the last fight. He moves up to where he saw the thing slithering around, and when he catches sight of it swings hard with his blade.
Move, to beside the snake
Standard, attack with long sword, 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20, damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
DM Pendin Fust
Heh, yep Terry, you were correct :) Maybe I WILL make it a purple worm...
Lirrathan's quick strike proves true as the snake recoils...
Lirrathan Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Snake Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Mirel Init: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Mirel, Lirrathan, then if the snake is still alive.
Mirel
Mirel attacks the snake!
Whip: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Damage(NonLethal): 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Lirrathan
Surprised the snake took the hit and was still standing, he swung again, and if it still didn't die he wasn't going to stay right next to it and get bit. Heck, even if it did die, he knows some snakes still can bite and poison after their heads are removed.
Standard, Long sword 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15, if that hits 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
If it is still alive, he will try to Acrobatics 15' away, 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
DM Pendin Fust
Whoa...the other group stole all your good rolls!
The snake slithers quickly to Mirel and bites at her...
Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
The teeth sink into a fleshy part.
Damage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Suddenly, Mirel feels a burning sensation on top of the pain from the bite...
Mirel Fort Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
She starts to feel shaky and weak.
Con Damage: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Everyone give me an action and I'll resolve.
Terry the thief
Terry takes a bow shot at the snake.
Shortbow w/ PBS & PS: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 1 = 17 Well, better than the others, so I'll roll damage in case . . ..
Damage W/ PBS: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
30 arrows
Arcessentes
When the snake enters Mirel's square does it provoke? If tiny it should.
Arcessentes sees the small threat and tries to burn it with acid.
Acid Splash - touch attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 141d3 ⇒ 3
Mirel
It is medium
Mirel takes a step back away from the snake, and attacks with her whip again.
Whip: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Fortitude: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
[ooc]Wow... :p[/dice]
DM Pendin Fust
Arcessentes, it's a Medium creature. Since this is a Mythic AP with the goal of taking PCs all the way to level 20...we're not seeing the usual CR encounter creatures at this level.
Terry's bowshot and Arcessentes magical dart slam into the snake at the same time leaving it twitching for a few seconds. It stills and the death rattle can be heard by everyone near it.
