DM Panic's Scourge of the Slavelords Prologue

Petrel will try and stab at this last speed shambler:

Single knife no-sneak #11d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 251d4 ⇒ 3
Single knife no-sneak #21d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 241d4 ⇒ 2

Two arrow and two knife stabbings make quick work of the last zombie.

It moans as it's unlife is drained from it, it's dying words sounding something like Tuuurnnip

With all enemies defeated, and the room already searched, you can rest up here for a second before going right or left.

Updated Map

Heading off to the right, you emerge into another cavern. Bits of debris, mostly rock and bone (and sadly, flesh) litter the floor here. Otherwise, there is nothing of real interest.

You continue to weave through the tunnels, attempting to fully explore the area and make your way downward. Another mostly empty room is discovered until you emerge into a bigger room beyond.

Net: You explore both rooms marked T7 find them uninteresting and finally emerge into T8. You make note that T9 seems to be the way down and plan to return there after T8.

Now, about T8...

This small chamber contains a stone sarcophagus inlaid with silver. The lid lies on its side and reveals it is now empty. The face carved into the stone depicts an imperious nobleman. A symbol of a skull in a halo of flame is carved at the head and foot.

Knowledge Religion DC10:

The holy symbol is that of Wee Jas, the goddess of magic and death.

Searching...:

Regardless of how epic you roll on Perception, you find nothing else of note in this room.

Petrel Only:

You think it's the fact that only you chose to be protected by the sacred blood of the tomb, but you feel a strange emptiness when you see the sarcophagus. You could describe the feel as a yearning to be home, but you realize it's not your own yearning.

~15 rounds remain on the Bless.

Human Cleric of Pelor 4

"Be more interesting to see how they brought it down. Have we explored everywhere?"

To T9 and the stairs down...

Once Petrel climbs back out of the coffin, the five of you continue to proceed cautiously through the narrow passages.

The narrow winding corridor opens up again to a broad chamber lit only by a faintly glowing moss that clings to the floor in patches.

Hundreds of small holes, each about three inches in diameter pierce the cavern walls.

As the only way to continue is through this room, you head towards the stairs...

As you reach the midpoint of this room, you get an uneasy feeling of eyes and movement about you. Then, from each of the holes comes hundreds of small rodents. Yet, they aren't normal rats or mice. They are dead yet animated with unlife. They squeal and squeak with an ominous chatter as they descend on Doruk and Petrel.

Then Mukluk will move back to make room for others.

Doruk wrote:

FWIW -

A swarm made up of Tiny creatures takes half damage from slashing and piercing weapons. A swarm composed of Fine or Diminutive creatures is immune to all weapon damage.

The spiders were much smaller than the rats, so Doruk felt his guisarme was useless against a spider. The rats are Tiny, so his wild swings do connect!

Unfortunately, the rats also have DR5/slashing which I'll apply before the halving of damage.

1--
Aralynn 9: Fires two arrows, hits twice but is disappointed by DR5/slashing, does -1HP with first one
Doruk 7: Will rule he attacks then moves, does -5HP - now squeezing in (K,9) with Aralynn.

2--
Petrel 21: Stabs, hits twice for for -4HP total
Martigan 19: Channels -1HP to harm
Mukluk 15: Acid cloud for -3HP
Petrel AoO: Hits for -1HP
Corpse Rats 12 (-22HP): TBD
Aralynn 9: TBD
Doruk 7: TBD

Swarm save vs Acid Cloud (DC14): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Aralynn's arrows flies into the swarm, tagging two of the undead rats. It's almost comical to see the creatures continue to skitter around biting at Martigan with arrows sticking out of them at odd angles.

Doruk swings wildly at first, catching only open air. A second backswing catches several of the creatures as they leap into the air and sends them motionless back to the ground.

Another burst of brilliant energy emanates from Martigan as he holds his holy symbol aloft. This seems to burn off the flesh of the creatures and cowls them slightly, just as another cloud of acid explodes onto several waiting in the corner.

Been 24 hours so will resolve Petrel for him so I can advance a round..

Petrel grips both of his knives tightly and slashes downward at the creatures from the top of the stairs down to the lake.

Knife #1 (+1 from bless): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 for 1d4 ⇒ 4
Knife #2 (+1 from bless): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 for 1d4 ⇒ 4

His swings catch several of the creatures.

As half the swarm moves away chasing after Doruk's blood, Petrel slashes at it again.

Knife AoO (+1 from bless): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 for 1d4 ⇒ 1

His blade connects with the tail of the tail-end of the swarm sending a few of the undead minions scurrying.

A swarm has no clear front or back and no discernible anatomy, so it is not subject to critical hits or flanking. A swarm made up of Tiny creatures takes half damage from slashing and piercing weapons. A swarm composed of Fine or Diminutive creatures is immune to all weapon damage.

As immune to bludgeoning damage. Instead I believe it is trying to state that a tiny swarm takes full damage from blunt weapons.

This means Martigan's early attack hitting AC21 for -4HP counts.

This puts the swarm at -38HP.

Doruk should be at J 12 having moved their last round to help Martigan this round. As such I don't think he gets an AoO, but seeing Martigan stable he will step up over his body and attack the swarm. If I couldn't move through the swarm like that then treat this as my AoO.

Flail power attack 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 1 = 14 doing 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 damage.

Female Half-Elf Monk (Zen Archer) 1

Round 4, Initiative 9

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 = FORT - distracted
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 = FORT - diseased

I hope those things are dead before they get to me.

Ah, if you had moved to Martigan, I think the swarm would have just stayed on you.

Regardless, 14 damage with a blunt weapon -5 for DR/5 slashing is -9 damage which is enough to crush the last few remaining undead rodents.

Several squirm and wiggle with last vestiges of unlife before finally the room lay motionless.

"Whew, that was tougher than all our other fights. We should maybe rest before continuing."

Doruk pours a potion of healing down Martigans throat.

Cure Light Wounds for 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

...and presuming that doesn't wake the poor priest up he uses his last one...

Cure Light Wounds for 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

sigh.

"Martigan, Martigan, wake up!"

Mukluk casts around on Martigan's body for a potion.

Does he have one?

"Aralynn, Petrel, either of youse have a potion?"

Mukluk looks around at the remaining few rats and ponders putting his pick through their foreheads.

"Damn rats came right out of the wall! I've seen some weird stuff on caves, but this is more weird than usual."

Mukluk tries to assist Doruk with Martigan.

"Yes, we could rest, let's see what Martigan thinks."
