Male Human Rogue 4: Knife Master, Sanctified Rogue

Petrel will return to the group, obviously excited.

"Guys, you are not going to believe this, but when I returned that skeleton, Wee Jes appeared and blessed me with magical powers! Well - colored lights appeared. But I got this!"

He will display the tattoo.

"I think it means I am sanctified by the God! Also my injuries healed. When we get back to Greyhawk I will go by their temple and introduce myself. And I'll put your names down for free healing."

Petrel is believes this means he should tread the path of being a Sanctified Rogue, whether the local temple likes it or not.

This is going to be great. Double Ritual Protection.

"Uh, very good Petrel? What do you make of the voices? We cannot understand some of the speech, but perhaps with your recent encounter you can."

This place keeps getting weirder. Well at least the opponents still fall even if they don't bleed.

Once the potions are quaffed and you are all are about to turn to the task of passing through the doors, a muffled scream can be heard from beyond...

"No... Nooooooo...."

Evil, maniacal laughter follows, then a "Yessss..."

Male Human (Oerdian) (Per +2 | Fort +5 Ref +2 Will +1 | AC 26 (f24/t12) | CMD 21)

"I don't like the sound of that." Doruk jiggles the doors a bit. Are they locked or barred? He does not open them at this time, or if he does in order to check it, he closes it again right away.

I don't like the sound of that at all...

As Doruk reaches out to test the doors, greenish yellow electricity ripples along the face of the doors and up onto his arms before he can let go.

With a crackle they disappear into his body as you all hear a sudden swelling in whispering in the chamber.

Doruk DC11 Will save.

Doruk:

You are filled with a disturbing image of a balding man with horrible twisted teeth holding aloft a curved knife. He is standing near a young girl who is tied up on the ground in front of a large statue. She appears to be crying.

This image is in your mind, you did not get the doors open, although you sense they were unlocked but barred from within. You'll need to break them down or have something small and narrow shoved in between them to knock off the bar.

The woman's shrill scream echoes a second time from beyond the doors that seal the chamber beyond.

@DM_Panic Don't know if it would have made a difference, but Aralynn did take 20 on search the door. I didn't say it in those words, but tried to express it in the writing.

Aralynn Huntinghawk wrote:

Aralynn takes a cursory look around the room, but then spends a couple minutes examing the door and ignoring Petrel and Mukluk. Once satisfied the door is safe, she'll advise Doruk. If she finds something, she'll advise Petrel to open the door. She might even advise him of any traps she found, but that will likely depend on his manners for the two minutes while she checks the door.

@Aralynn: Ah I saw you rolled a 16 on that post and assumed that was your Perception check.

If you took 20, what was the roll for?

It's probably best if you guys take 20 you spell it out for me with OOC text. :)

I'll update with Doruk breaking through the doors in the morning.

Let me know if you guys cast anything or prepare in any additional manners before the doors burst open.

Petrel notices Mukluk looking at him.

Is it because I am so awesome now?

"Oh, the door? Guess there is no point pretending to be Vecna now."

Petrel will shuck off the robe and check the door for locks and traps.

Aralynn took a "cursory look around the room" (perception check 16), but took 20 checking the door for traps, "spends a couple minutes examing the door...Once satisfied the door is safe, she'll advise Doruk."

Aralynn has no actions before the door is opened. Place her 10' to 15' back directly from the door.

Petrel's 27 can open the door by knocking off the bar within.

This vast chamber rises up to a great vaulted ceiling forty feet above the black marble floor. Two silver braziers flank a large pool of blood on the far side of the chamber, both emitting a thickl red smoke.

A black basalt statue stands in the center of the pool. Nearly twenty feet tall, the statue depicts a rotting corpse wearing fine robes, and is missing an eye and a hand. Each wound pours forth blood to fill the pool below.

An ornate bookstand before the statue contains a single large tome, its pages open and on display before a robed, balding man that carries a bloodied curved dagger.

He grins crooked discolored teeth at your all with glee and malice as you watch him release his grasp on the hair of a young girl. He clothes are stained with red blood and he tilts his head back to laugh.

Between you and him is an immense skeleton of a bear-like creature. Blood drips from its bones, seeming to indicate it just rose from the bloody pool under the statue. Unfortunately your greatest fears are confirmed when it begins to move in your direction.

Aralynn and Petrel start us off in round 1..

I guess for future Acrobatics checks to avoid an AoO let me know if you are moving half-speed or full-speed (+10DC to the check).

I'm guessing you meant to not take the penalty (and try to roll vs a CMD30!) so we'll say you double-moved since you moved at half speed and did not swing.

You didn't make the CMD20 to tumble past. However, Aralynn went first and in moving to (G,4) provoked the AoO.

S AoO vs A: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 for 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Hit for 9, and this skeleton gets a free grab attack on the hit, so here's that.

S CMB v A (grab): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16

Fails the grab against Aralynn (which I guess is good as that would've hit Petrel's CMD).

Because the monster doesn't have combat reflexes, Petrel's acrobatics check (which failed) wasn't necessary...

So I guess I could've said you moved full speed (sans Tumble) and got your attack in, but missed.

Deep breath.

Aralynn and Petrel waste no time charging into the room past the skeleton up to the toes of Veltargo and his prisoner.

The bear-skeleton swipes at Aralynn, opening a gash in her left side.

Veltargo is just too shocked, and isn't currently holding his weapon to swing back at Petrel.

The skeleton rears up and spins to face the half-elf archer, swinging at her twice and attempting to bite her.

Veltargo's eyes narrow at Petrel and he proclaims, "Your impudence! You are too late, the Blessed One is here!"

Veltargo also takes a 5ft step to (H,2).

He points a single outstretched finger at Petrel and suggests that he, "Run" like the coward he is.

Martigan turns martial and breaks some bone off the undead minion with his mace while both Doruk and Aralynn are unable to find a target.

I'm assumimg Aralynn has observed the owlbear doesn't have reach--at least a regular owlbear doesn't. If Aralynn can't 5' to F2, then how about G2 or H2? I don't think the priest has a weapon out. Alternatively, since she goes last someone might have already provoked from the skeleton.

If the owlbear does have reach and has not used an AoO yet, then how about a tumble to F1 or G1 and then a single shot?

Yeah! The high numbers have returned. Hopefully she'll last long enough to enjoy them.

Edit: Shooting at the priest.

Mukluk 11 (14/14):
Martigan 6 (-5/17):
Doruk 3 (15/20):

Mukluk rushes over to Martigan and forces a potion down his throat. Coughing and still badly injured, Martigan returns to the world of the living.

Doruk whirls around his flail and brings it directly down onto the prone owlbear skeleton's skull. With a cacophonous crunch, it's head explodes into thousands of tiny fragments as the rest of the beast slumps to the ground.

Or not so close after all?

Petrel tumbles around again and pops up next to Veltargo. As the Vecnan stands aghast that his Blessed One has been crushed, Aralynn seizes the opportunity to try her skills at her bow again and fires two arrows - point blank - into the man's chest.

Veltargo wheezes and coughs and appears badly injured.

Martigan gets to go!

I hope he does not yield. He deserves the cold embrace of death.

AoO from Petrel (Doruk isn't there yet).

Cure Moderate: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (6, 5) + 3 = 14

The dagger, still dripping with half-elvish blood plunges toward Aralynn again.

Spiritual Weapon vs Aralynn: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 for 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Crit Confirm vs Aralynn: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 for 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Concern appears to wash over Veltargo's face, but it quickly turns to satisfaction as he watches Aralynn collapse to the ground. The potion touches his lips...

Big opportunity for Petrel...

Ouch. Me and my big mouth. At least it wasn't straight to -11.

After Petrel's AoO, I believe the party gets to go. By the way, I do have a CLW potion on my person still.
