Would it help for you to think of yourselves as a group of Indiana Joneses? :)
You are on an official state and (somewhat reluctantly) church sponsored delve of exploration, reclaimation, and recovery of both history and artifacts. You aren't just simple grave robbers. Besides, lots of heroes start off as simple grave robbers.. :-)
Not all of your assignments will be of tombs. And yes the AP moves on from here into more "heroic" stuff. Keep the faith! ;)

"Iron snakes...why did it have to be iron snakes?"

Mus'ad |

I understand where Joana's coming from, and have some similar raised eyebrows about the desecration aspect.
Besides if we were using the Indiana Jones analogy... we should be pulling out because we've recovered the object that should Be in a museum in the funerary mask. Indy was never about taking everything that was nailed down, more about targeted recovery of specific items :P

Kheled Hadri |

We are just being thorough folks. If we are risking our lives and have the blessing of the church I guess I don't see an issue. They can't take the items with them to see Pharasma. Pharasma thinks it is quite stupid to be buried along with your valuables...or at least that is what Kheled tells you.

DM oKOyA |

The three rules laid out by the High Priestess address the issue of desecration. In that there is to be none. You are to learn the history of the location, and recover any items of interest or value.
The Ruby Prince has ordered the recovery and exploration as a boon to his country. The Necropolis is more than just tombs. You are helping to recover this lost and dangerous part of the city.
They have no idea what is in these tombs and buildings, hence why they have "hired" professionals to clear them out.
Not unlike a salvage mission really. And what your characters signed up for.
You are, of course, free to leave behind whatever you wish. :)
(Neither of the next two locations will be tombs.)

DM oKOyA |

I hear you. I am running this first delve completely by the AP as I want to familiarize myself with the characters and their capabilities/dynamic before I start tinkering with things. (No adjustment even for 6 characters.)
Oh, and the number of constructs will diminish in the near future and the number of undead will increase. ;)

About the flanking vs tiny creatures inside the square of a PC, I'm leaning towards saying that they are not flanked. RAW, they don't meet the criteria for flanking unless the PC they are sharing a square with moves out of the square and into flanking position. It also makes sense that while they are sharing a square with someone, there is a lot of jostling about in the square which prevents flanking.
So they can still be flanked as normally, they are not autoflanked if an ally moves adjacent to the PC they are attacking.
I'd also say that they can still be flanked if two PCs are on either side of square they are sharing with a third PC. Makes sense?

F. Castor |

Hello all.
Unfortunately I have to withdraw from this game. I have already told our DM via PM (heh...). The message is the following.
Good day.
Unfortunately I have decided to withdraw from the game. The reason is that I am reaching the final part of my medical internship and the exams are in a couple of months or three. That means that I have to study quite a bit, a fact which leaves me with much less time and energy than I had anticipated. Thus, I have to cut down on the number of games I am in. I really am sorry, but for the time being at least the dreariness of my studying takes precedence. :-(
I have enjoyed playing with all of you and I will continue to enjoy playing with some of you in other games, yet I have to cut down on the number of my PbPs.

With Aerathiel leaving, does the party wish to recruit a replacement?
I'm a bit on the fence on this one. On one hand, five is a good party size, and reduces the need to modify the existing adventure. On the other hand, we'll most like feel the absence of full arcane caster.
What do the rest of you think?

Joana |

In the long run, it's been my experience that most Paizo APs absolutely expect the party to include a full-arcane-caster by the mid to late books. On the other hand, we're realistically unlikely to make it that far.
In the short term, Aerathiel is the only party member other than Pherenike to have a reliable way to bypass DR/-.

DM oKOyA |

I will be writing Aerathiel out in a manner that will facilitate his return should Castor wish to rejoin at some future date.
Concerns regarding the lack of arcane casters are valid, for both reasons Joana mentions.
(And what is this about not making it to the mid to late books!? Boo! :P ) lol
I am happy to go as the party decides, but keep in mind we are down to 4 active players at this point until AK returns from hiatus.
We have a little time to decide...

DM oKOyA |

It isn't so much add as substitute. :) We started with 6 and we would still be 6 if Ansha joined.
F. Castor is welcome back any time, but at this point I am going to assume he won't be playing in the foreseeable future. When, and if, he wishes to rejoin, we will figure something out then.
With that in mind, any replacement shouldn't be too similar to Aerathiel just in case.

Myron Drumbarrel |

I'm ok with letting Ansha jump in and substitute while F. Castor is out. Full arcane is what we need - we have all other roles covered.

Lara Evangeline |

Oh, I suppose I'm just a non-entity here, huh?

DM oKOyA |

Can everyone have their characters leveled up asap please?
I expect the rest of the day to go... report back to temple to debrief and (possibly) receive new assignment, head out to sell loot and do treasure division, and then back to the Tooth & Hookah for some rest and recuperation.
There will be some RPing opportunities before we start your second assignment.
Anything else anyone wants to do/suggest?
