Plus the action to stand up, but even there, I think you still win that one. Lucky though. Not sure I'd be accelerated climbing over 30 feet with 1st level HPs

So is it a DC15 acro check to not take damage?
Acro Check - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
I didn't even think about the whole being level 1 and a fall could pretty easily kill me. Been awhile since I have rocked a level 1, that could have ended poorly.
Did Brad also just fall 45'?
Quietly Clades says to everyone up the rigging, "The small lass also seems to be less than happy about this situation, she could be an asset to us."

I think it's reasonable to assume after 6-8 rounds, someone has won and you'd stop climbing
Clades, you can only avoid falling damage from a deliberate fall, not from a failed climb check

DM NomadSage |

Tan and Clades speed up the rigging, followed a few seconds behind by Mahlugul. Vanyel and Zevo stagger out the gate. Mister Plugg lets out a great sigh, grabbing Vanyel by the back of the shirt and pulling him back. "Please, stop... you're just embarrassing yourself. I've seen fish with more climbing skill. And you," he adds, pointing at Zevo a few seconds later. "Just stay there before you hurt yourself. You have a monkey's face, but have you even seen rigging before?"
Plugg shakes his head, then glances up. "Alright, enough lollygagging! Get back down here!" he shouts. When you return to the deck, he points at Clades. "You won, so you get to play rigger." He gives Tan a critical glance before half-side-nodding. "And you have some salt in you, too. You both work directly for me now."
He points at Zevo and Mahlugul. "You brutes are swabs. Report to Master Scourge for assignments, and be quick about it. He's not as forgiving of stupidity as I am!"
Lastly, he eyes Vanyel and sighs again. "Congratulations! You're our cook's new mate. Hopefully you can cook better than you can climb. Talk to Fishguts in the galley."
The other recruits get their assignments as well: the gnome is a rigger with Clades and Tan, while the Varisian, the redhead, and the halfling are swabs.
"Now, get to it!"

Later that evening
Tan collapses in his bunk. "Ugh, that sadistic bastard, I swear he creates work just to see us strain. Bet he gets off in it.".
Groaning he sits up looking at his fellow recruits, "Look here, men. We gotta find a better lot for ourselves. But we are outnumbered and under resourced. If you all are in, we can band together and find a way out of this mess. Some of us should see if we can find other like minded folks and some of us need to find some arms and coin ... we will probably need to bribe folks."
He ponders a moment, "We will need a place to hide shit as well. So let's keep that in consideration"

"This day couldn't have been any worse...I had to listen to morons, and clean after their dirty asses. I would say by the looks of it, the whole crew at some point was a captive. If that is the case their loyalty is gonna be weak, bribery should work well."
Zevo stands up and heads to Tan, and extends his hand "I am with you brotha, now let us get workin on a place to store thngs. Maybe we should pull up one of those thar boards from the floor."
Zevo is going to inspect the floor boards.

Mahlugul the Marauder |

Mahlugul nods, "Aye, we stick together. These fool crew members will join us or we kill 'em with the officers. Now, you scabs listen to Zevo and me and we'll be running this floating trash heap in no time."

DM NomadSage |

A Day in the Life of a Pirate: Each day, your character will be assigned one or more crew duties, generally in line with rigger, swab or cook's mate. Most of the time, this will include a skill or ability check. If you work at the task diligently, affording no distractions, you gain a +4 to the roll. If you try to do anything else, you risk penalties or outright failure. Failure usually has consequences.
I'll post the day's tasks in a spoiler with the date, like so...
Rigger: rope work, coiling, stowing and securing the miles of rigging lines to cleats and bollards (DC 10 Profession (sailor) or Dexterity check)
Cook's Mate: report to Fishguts.
Master Scourge immediately orders the new recruits to work mopping and scrubbing the deck, while Mr Plugg has the riggers uncoil, inspect and re-stow all of the Wormwood's many lines. Both tasks are grueling, especially beneath the heavy summer sun and your own throbbing heads.
Need everyone to make a Fortitude save with a -2 penalty due to your sickened (hungover) condition, and then the duties roll as above.

As Tan and Clades work, Clades will keep a rolling conversation going if it's possible "Well Red, it is certainly hotter then a jail cell along the southern coast." Clades has found some old sail cloth he is using to keep the sweat out of his eyes "Could have been worse I guess, could have gotten stuck working with one of those half orcs, I am half tempted to throw them overboard and show them the rudder."
"So what's your specialty?"
"Any thoughts on allies on this tub?"

"Wouldn't know about a jail cell ... never been caught," Tan replies slyly looking a bit bleary eyed from the previous night.
"Let's not turn on folks too quickly. Our first recruits should be those that haven't been with the ship long. Less likely to have allies themselves or any loyalties. Focus on those that got press ganged like us. Probably others from the last time this ship was in port."
He coughs a bit, spitting up something foul and making a face, "Ugh, sorry about that. We need to learn more about this ship itself, as well. Layout and weapons ... plus a place to hide anything we can get our hands on. Feel naked without a blade. Take anything that comes my way at this point ... even an oversized piece of cutlery"

What are the rules for not working diligently? What else can we do with our day and what are the minuses?
It depends on what you want to do, and how much time/effort it will take away from 'working diligently'. For example, chatting around with your work team is free, but sneaking off to scout and/or cause trouble risks a higher chance of failure. All modifiers are 'behind the screen', depending on the circumstances.
Mahl and Van are further struck by bouts of minor sea sickness, further amplifying their misery.

DM NomadSage |

7 Sarenith, Day / Galley
Vanyel's stomach churns hard as he gets below deck and loses a visible horizon. A few bouts of dry heaves delays his route to the galley. His nose leads him half the way there. The small kitchen is cramped and impossibly cluttered: cutting boards and knives, spices and hanging meats, boiling kettles and heavy stew pots. At the center is a heavy set older man, wearing a badly stained apron. He leans against the wall, snoring.

Sandara Quinn *DM* |

7 Sarenith, Day / Galley
Jaundiced Jape snarls at Mahlagul and moves away without saying anything.
A few minutes later, the redheaded woman you saw earlier shifts her work closer to Malh and Zevo. In a low voice, she says, "Hey, I couldn't help overhearing, and I have to offer some friendly advice: I'd keep the 'mutiny' talk to yourself. You're not gonna make any friends trying to rustle up something against the Cap'n."
She looks around casually. When Master Scourge's attention is elsewhere, she pulls Mahl's dagger from her blouse and slips it to him. "I have some of the others' things, too... a few small items I managed to coax from Cutthroat Grok. Who you know will keep you alive on a pirate ship. Friends help each other out, enemies are trouble."
"Oh, I'm Sandara," she adds with a wink.

Mahlugul the Marauder |

Mahlugul smiles and quickly slips the dagger into his boot, "I'm Mahlugul and this is my brother Zevo. These fool crew members have to be convinced to join our side. Who among them can we trust?"

Sandara Quinn *DM* |

7 Sarenith, Day / Main Deck
"None," Sandara replies with a smirk. "You do realize you're on a pirate ship, right?"
"I've only been on board a few days myself, so I'm still on the outs with most of the veterans. Some will give you a fair shake, but a good number are straight bastards. Be wary, and don't underestimate any of them."

Working through the day, sweating and getting greener as things go by, Tan watches the others and then pulls Clades aside pointing at Conchobar, "Come on, let's go talk to that gnome. Pirates tend to be racist and shallow, he may be on the outs with them as well ... and if I'm not mistaken, he was taken about the same time we were. An easy ally, I'd think."
Tan heads that way, regardless if Clades follow. "Friend, luck be with you today, that we stumbled across you before one of these cutthorats. From whence do you hail?"

Zevo-gark |

7 Sarenith - Swab
"Hi Sandara, me name is Zevo. Of these cutthroats, which one is the most powerful....you know the one that they all listen to? Not an officer but but a swab like us?"
Zevo leans in closer to Mahl and Sandara and speaks quietly. "Listen, I agree we need to keep quiet about any mutiny. I have means, and I can get some of the others on our side if we are just careful and cautious. So Mahl, try to be the bess pirate you could eva be aight? I need them to be distracted from us"

7 Sarenith, Day / Rigging
"Arrr, Port Poril be my last den, but the sea be my true home," the gnome responds to Tan in a ridiculously contrived pirate accent. "Ye be a cutthroat yerself, aye?" he asks, before his gaze is drawn downward.
His eyes follow the halfling woman working the deck below. You hear her shout a colorful curse as she catches a splinter. "Ahh, that Rosie... isn't she magnificent!" he asides. In his distraction, Conchobhar drops his assumed accent.

Barefoot Samms gives Clades a raised eyebrow, appraising him up and down. "Samms. Now leave me be, or you'll earn us both lashes."

"I don't know that there's a leader among the swabs. Plugg runs the show, and has enough toadies among the crew to keep any troublemakers in line."

I get the sense they may stifle any sort of ... individuality. Dangerous for men like you and I who don't 'fit in' with the regular crowd."
Watching him watch her, Tan takes a mental note, "Rosie, eh? She was drug in with the rest of us, no? You know her well, then? Looks like she knows her way around a ship. We probably should reach out to her then. Make sure she doesn't fall in with the wrong crowd."
