About Mahlugul the Marauder

"Kill 'em all!" Mahlugul whispered in orcish. The black masked orcs in his team nodded silently. The time for retribution had finally arrived.

Mahlugul placed his dagger between black stained teeth and silently motioned the signal to advance to his team. Slowly the marauders crept up the ship's rigging. Before crossing the ship's threshold, Mahlugul touched the small skull hanging around his neck G'ra, guide my sword. Grant me your strength and fury. By dawn, their hated rivals would rest at the bottom of the sea.

On that moon lit night, death would arrive from the shadows for the drunken pirates. The arrogant humans, whom themselves preyed on the weak and unwary, would learn a new respect for the fanged killers whom plied the alley ways of Ilizmagorti.

When it was over, Mahlugul nodded to his team and wiped the blood from his blades. He took no satisfaction from killing - it was a necessary part of the business they were in. In the Shackles, only the strong survived.

Mahlugul turned to his fellow thugs and growled, "Disembark the ship. We sail for Port Peril!"

Tonight, they would celebrate at the Formidably Maid ...

Background:

Mahlugul was born in the subterranean caverns beneath the jungles of Mediogalti Island. He is a prominent member of the orcish Blacken Tusk Tribe. Mahlugul grew up in the shadows of the Underdark, where he learned undercommon and the essential skills required to survive in a world of predators. Eventually his immense physical prowess and his insatiable sense of adventure would lead him to the shadows of nearby Ilizmagorti.

In Ilizmagorti, he and his comrades would form their own gang of thugs. Mahlugul would soon discover his inherent talents for burglary, stealing, robbery and extortion. Mahlugul learned to operate seamlessly within a team of scoundrels and rogues. Eventually, he would rise to become prominent member of the team. Fierce competition with other street gangs would force the thugs to align with the local church of Zon-Kuthon. The church of Zon-Kuthon, whom included many members from the ruling Red Mantis assassins, recognized the potential within Mahlugul and mentored the aspiring half orc in the ways of the wicked. Mahlugul, whom never much cared for morality, respected the order of the church and appreciated the knowledge that it imparted.

Mahlugul would become fluent in the culture and language of the pirates whom he preyed upon in Ilizmagorti. Eventually, seeking ever bigger prizes, Mahlugul and his mates would evolve to boarding the ships within Ilizmagorti's port and stealing from the city's nefarious pirates. As a stow away, Mahlugul would learn the ways of a sailor by watching the pirate crews from the shadows. Now, Mahlugul seeks to take his thuggery to a new, higher level by becoming a pirate himself.

Personality:

Mahlugul is mercurial and a practiced liar. He is ruthless, ambitious and greedy. He is a deceitful manipulator whom excels in the art of scheming. Mahlugul is process driven, hierarchical, disciplined and goal oriented. Mahlugul has unwaivering loyalty to his team mates.

Mahlugul is highly superstitious. He meticulously repeats a litany of small rituals through out the day that he believes bring him luck or ward off curses. He carefully honors the practices of all three religions that he believes in - those of G'Ra, Besmara and Zon-Kuthon. Mahlugul holds priests from these religions in high regard and will follow their orders by default. Mahlugul devotes several hours each day to praying to each of his gods. He is fond of making elaborate alters of candles or any make shift item that he can find such that he may sacrifice small animals or offer baubles of value to his various patron saints.
