Reginald Fezziweg |

Reflex 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Archeaologist Luck +1 to all rolls 5/6
Swim 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
While agile enough in the water to avoid danger, the currents are far stronger than the little man's muscles. Reginald continues his valiant fight.

Barker Valdane |

Swim: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Barker swam hard toward those of his companions that seemed most in danger of sinking or being swept away from the others. He tied them together with his long rope, then headed for the next.
I think Alexander is in the most danger? In any case, Barker tries to get everyone to tie themselves to his rope, and helps those who are too busy drowning. Should I make a Swim check for each one, or are we doing this round-by-round?

Finnian Surotova |

Finnian sees his companions swept away and races along the bank trying to keep up. Seeing Alexander struggling, he pulls out his rope and attempts to throw an end to him.
Not sure what rolls to make for this

DM Jonasty |

Not sure what rolls to make for this
Due to the overgrowth and nature of the jungle terrain, you will not be able to keep up with the group for long. Assume you can make a rope throw attempt during Round 1 and if you miss again on Round 2. After that, even with double moving, they will be too far down the river from you.
As for the roll itself, it will be a Ranged Touch attack against whatever PC you are attempting to "lasso". If you miss with the rope on Round 1, the Round 2 attempt will suffer a -2 due to distance as they will be further downstream. If you aren't able to get anyone with the rope in those 2 rounds, then you'll need to decide what you want to do from there.

DM Jonasty |

With Finnian having top Init, if he manages to hit one of the PC's with his rope attempt, that PC can make 2 Strength checks, 1 per Move action, to "climb" up the rope to shore instead of the Swim checks. Strength check DC 10. If you make both Strength checks, you then double move and will end your Round 1 turn on shore with Finnian.
Finnian, if all of the above happens, you can attempt to rescue a second PC on Round 2 at that point.

Finnian Surotova |

Finnian hurriedly casts the rope to Alexander.
rope throw 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
attempt to aid Alexander by pulling in the rope 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Finnian Surotova |

Seeing Grutsnick make it to shore, Finnian turns his attention to the others. It appears that Lorelei is having the most trouble so he attempts to get her the rope next.
btw, what is the DC for the swim checks?
rope throw to Lorelei (with-2 for distance) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
attempt to aid Lorelei's STR check by pulling in rope 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

Grutsnick |

Round 2
Grutsnick will quickly take the rope out of his pack and attempt to lasso Reginald with it.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Barely getting the rope around him, he will then angle Reginald like bait to pick up Barker and any of the others while bracing himself on the shore.
Forgot the -2 in the original roll but I show Reginald's touch as 15 so I still made it (barely).

DM Jonasty |

I guess Barker will try to help Lorelei instead then? Grab her and then grab a rope/swim to shore? I'm a little confused as to who is doing what now.
Yeah there have been a lot of ideas and actions thrown out there. ;-) I'll have the round update up in a second, which should hopefully clear things up.

DM Jonasty |

The waters rage around the group as they are thrown this way and that. Everyone seems able to avoid the debris floating in the water or the submerged rocks that seem to pop up with disturbing regularity.
Grutsnick snarls silently as he begins paddling for shore, making some headway against the rivers strength. Reginald, seeing the big half-orc's determination, attempts to follow his lead but is unable to match Grutsnick's raw power.
Finnian, the only one who managed to avoid the brunt of the river's power began racing along the riverbank, trying to keep pace with the others although the flood's speed was making it a losing race. Casting out with his rope, he managed to get a strand into Alexander's hands who was able, after much grunting and struggle, to pull himself on to shore.
Barker helps fasten a guide rope to Lorelei amongst the river waters and a good thing too as she begins to be pulled out further into the flow.
Clarifications:
I know this is a bit confusing with all the stuff going on so here's how I'm currently seeing everything. Everyone in round 1 who was in the water was a full round swim action away from shore. Actual distance is relative but since no one has a swim speed it makes it easier to generalize. As an example, Grutsnick made only 1 of the 2 move action swim checks to get towards shore so he would still be in the water.
The current of the river is carrying you downstream fast but also it's pulling you further in to the center of the river as well, at the rate of "1 move action of swimming" per turn. That being said and with the other actions from Round 1, here is the layout of people as I have it:
Finnian: On shore, rope in hand. In Round 2 you can do another move and rope toss action if you want to any of the PC's. After that they will be far enough away that you will either take significant penalties to the roll or will want to try something else.
Alexander: You are now on shore and on your feet next to Finnian at the start of Round 2. You could do the rope thing like Finnian if you have rope. For spellcasting purposes, assume all of the PC's in the river are at Close range for this turn, after that it will need to be Medium or Long.
Grutsnick: You made 1 of your 2 Swim checks which left you a move action away. That plus the river's pull puts you at a double move (2 Swim checks) away from shore at the start of Round 2. If you make the 2 checks, you're on shore at the end of your turn.
Barker: You used a swim check to get to Lorelei and then a standard action to tether her to you. At this point, you are a double move action away from shore at the start of Round 2.
Lorelei: You failed both swim checks and with the river's pull, you are now 3 move action swim checks away from shore at the start of Round 2. However, you are currently tethered to Barker with his rope and he is only 2 actions away.
Reginald: You failed both swim checks and with the river's pull, you are now 3 move action swim checks away from shore at the start of Round 2.
Sorry about any confusion and let me know if there are other questions. The porters are going to be a flat percentage dice after this is over on how many survive, the PC's are the priority at this point, unless there is some specific thing that anyone tries to do regarding them. If you save yourselves, you'll save at least some of them, type of thing.
Other than that, everyone in the water can make another DC 12 Reflex save to avoid taking damage from the flood waters in Round 2. If you fail you will take 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6 points of damage. Please post your Round 2 actions when able at that point.

Lorelei |

Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Not sure if I need a swim or str check to climb the rope, but since I have no bonuses in either I'll just use the same roll for whichever is needed.
Swim or Str check 1: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Swim or Str check 2: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Lorelei manages to keep hold of the rope tossed to her while avoiding all the debris swirling in the water around her.

DM Jonasty |

The waters continue to push everyone downstream, the noise almost too loud to stand. Grutsnick changes his direction at the sight of his companion Reginald foundering in the water and begins to make his way towards him.
Hooking her arm around Finnian's rope, Lorelei manages to haul herself to shore, dragging Barker along with her despite the current's pull.
Alexander shuts out the distractions around him and begins casting a spell, an otherworldly light glowing in the air around him.
Currently everyone is on shore except for Grutsnick and Reginald, who are now both 2 full rounds of double movement away from shore. At this point Finnian they are too far away for you to toss a rope to them.
Alexander, you may attempt to have the Dire Bat rescue one of your companions however it will require Handle Animal checks since you can't talk to it.
Please post your Round 3 actions when able. DC 12 Reflex or take 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6.

Grutsnick |

Round 3
Reflex 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Grutsnick continues to swim through the river, the weight of his gear hardly slowing him down and the various detritus causing him no concern.
Swim towards Reginald and/or shore, whichever is applicable based on Dire Bat shenanigans.
Swim 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 221d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24

Lorelei |

Round 3 Action
Stating what I'd like to do, just let know what I can accomplish this round.
Not trusting the bat and worried about their swimming ability, Lorelei grabs a scroll out of her haversack and casts fly upon herself. She can fly at a speed of 60ft.
Don't think I can also grab Reg this turn, so I'll stay over top them and grab him next round if the bat fails. The spell says I can carry up to my max load, so I should be able to handle a hafling.
"Reginald, I hope you aren't afraid of heights."

DM Jonasty |

Don't think I can also grab Reg this turn, so I'll stay over top them and grab him next round if the bat fails. The spell says I can carry up to my max load, so I should be able to handle a hafling.
This sounds right, assume that you cast the spell and then fly over so that you're above Reginald and that would be your round 3 actions. Then you can attempt to get him out of the water on your next turn.
Reginald: With Lorelei above you, you can attempt Swim checks (same DC 20) in order to control your swimming enough to be able to grab her legs or something similar. If you make the check at least once, you will be holding on to her and that will save her actions when it comes to Round 4. You don't have to, just letting you know an option.

Reginald Fezziweg |

Swim 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Reflex 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
Regi struggles again to reach for some form of safety to pluck him from the jaws of death. Seeing the giant bat winging around above him, the small gunslinger makes a grab for his friend.

DM Jonasty |

Lorelei pulls a scroll out and quickly reads the incantation within. Suddenly she is flying through the air out over the waters. Diving low she manages to help pull the bedraggled halfling out of the water and sets back to shore.
Finishing his spell Alexander stands before a giant bat that flaps its wings in the air and looks around for something to hurt. It takes some hand gestures and not a few curses but finally the bat seems to understand the task before it and flaps its way out over the water. Taloned feet dipping low it grasps on to the large half-orc and with some struggle manages to hoist him aloft and start winging toward shore.
After what felt like hours but could not have been more than a few seconds, the group of you collapse exhausted (not mechanically, just flavor) to the ground. Moments later your porters stagger up the treeline, more the worse for wear. Surprisingly all 3 canoes managed to survive the flood unharmed although the same can't be said for 2 of the porters. One lies in the bottom of the canoe clearly dead, his neck at an odd angle while the other is simply missing, lost to the waters of the jungle.
Consulting the rough map you have, Barker knows that you will need to cross the river to progress in your journey. That being said, jungle floods are known to be fast but temporary and you all decide it might be best to camp at this point and wait for the waters to calm some.
We'll go off Init at this point, everyone will make it clearly. Although Reginald and Grutsnick please give me one more Reflex save DC 12 for the last round you would have been in the water. Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
Everyone can give me Perception checks for your watch as you make camp for the evening. Also, 5% or lower is bad:
Grutsnick: 1d100 ⇒ 93
Lorelei: 1d100 ⇒ 55
Alexander: 1d100 ⇒ 75
Reginald: 1d100 ⇒ 74
Barker: 1d100 ⇒ 50
Finnian: 1d100 ⇒ 44

Grutsnick |

Reflex 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Perception for watch 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Survival for next day direction 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Survival to assist Barker avoid hazards1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
"That Regi was what we call a Mwangi Boat Ride!"
Grutsnick seems to be exhilarated by his brush with death, although truth be told he never seemed to be in any danger. He will spend extra time checking all of his gear and drying it out, as well as oiling his weapons and armor.

Lorelei |

Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
Lorelei will again cast Endure Elements upon herself in the morning.
Lorelei is looking rather bedraggled at the moment with bits of leaves and twigs stuck in her long hair, so she gives in to vanity for a moment and casts Prestidigitation upon herself. Soon she looks much cleaner and drier, though no less tired for her brief swim in the river.
"I'd rather not go on that ride again." Lorelei checks all her gear and will also cast Prestidigitation upon it as well to help it dry out and clean it of river mud.

Barker Valdane |

Barker spoke a few words of condolence to the remaining porters in their own language. Then, sodden and sheepish, Barker approached Lorelei as he drew his precious crossbow from its case.
"I don't suppose you could take care of Alexina with that magic too? She's a trooper, but I'd prefer that she wasn't so wet all the same."
Perception for watch: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29 +4/2 vs. magical beasts/animals
Survival for direction: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
Survival to avoid hazards: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16

Lorelei |

Lorelei casts Prestidigitation upon both both Alexina and Barker. "There you go, all dried out and cleaned up. For now at least, it seems impossible to stay dry for long out here. I stay so wet I'm sure I'm about to grow gills."
Looking around and seeing how thoroughly soaked everyone else still is, Lorelei decides to cast Prestidigitation upon everyone else. Hopefully no one takes offense to this.

Reginald Fezziweg |

With a laugh Regi responds,"Grutsnick, ol' boy, that was the best I've ever been on! In fact it was so good I should hope to never have another, hahahaha. Casting Prestedigitation on everyone who still needs drying out or cleaning up, Reginald sits down beside Grutsnick and begins his evening equipment maintenance. "They are going go crazy for this story back home,Gruts. One of these days we may be able to take every piece of gold them jokers from the north have to their names."
Reflex 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

Reginald Fezziweg |

"It's not the fish, Barker, but the Screaching Eels that worry me." he says with a grin. Finishing up the maintenance on his pistol, the gunslinger gives it spin around his finger holstering it in one smooth motion. "Well. Who's first in the chute for watch this fine evening?"

Lorelei |

Now, was that a Princess Bride reference? :)
Satisfied that her gear is now all dry and clean, Lorelei turns back to the others. "I don't think I've ever seen a screaching eel before, are they in the rivers around here? I'm fine with taking either first or last watches."

Alexander Do'Rafien |

Where I am from they are called the Shrieking Eels. I had heard the same things though about them getting louder. The way I understand it the only way to escape is to give them a solid smack on the head as they are about to attack. Knocks them senseless for a moment so that you can escape. Alexander says around a mouthful of his pipe. A haze of blue smoke wafting from his perpetually raised cowl.
Sorry couldn't resist joining the PB fun lol
