K. Planes or Arcana check.

At the same time, a wave of pants soiling terror washes over you from one of the creatures.

Everyone still awake make a DC 21 will save or be panicked as the Fear spell. If you succeed you are just Shaken for 1 round.

The other one looks at Variel.

Rain could not determine what manner of creature/s the horrifying, floating shapes were. (No Know. Arcana or Planes unfortunately)

When the terror began to wash over her, Rain steeled her will instantly and girded herself from its full effect.

Fearing the end Variel closed his eyes calling out, Help me Rain! Someone? Anyone? Please help me!

Variel's plea for help reached her ears, even as she shook from the effect of the creature. She still held the slumbering Rajah's arm in one hand and the extended pike in the other, ready to defend and attack to protect her loved one and companions.

He seemed to regain much of his composure and swiftly attacked one of the floating horrors.

"Does anyone know what manner of horror they are?", she called to anyone awake and who could hear her.

She then left Rajah safely in the back of the room near Flynn, swiftly activated her animal focus (Swift action: the BULL : +2 to STR for 4 mins) and moved forward to aid Variel, even as he warned of normal blades being useless against them. But her pike was magical, so she had some hope. Rain stopped (at E:10) and with her extended magical pike attacked the floating horror at C:8.

It's cool - bad luck...

DM Immortal wrote:
Nope sorry Jiro. You're panicked so you dropped Amen. You are Panicked for 12 rounds.

GM - two things; if Jiro is actually fleeing, wouldn't he be able to flee to places we haven't explored and possibly find new places? I mean; he's got to move somewhere, where would he move on the map so that, theoretically, he could open up new places to see? Also, given that the average run speed is 5x movement and he's moving a total of 12 rounds - wouldn't that mean he could cover 1,800 feet by the time the effect was finished?

This would - hopefully - allow Jiro the chance to take some actions until this combat is over even though he can't participate in the actual combat.

Meanwhile, since Horatio and Amen-set can't take actions until the combat is over do you have any suggestions for anything else they (or any of the other PC's who are not able to participate in this combat) are able to do until this is over?

run speed is 4x move and only on clear ground IN A STRAIGHT LINE, and chances are, he'd probably flee back to the ship if he could, as it's the only safe place he knows... which means going around corners and such - so double move max until he gets out of the keep

Didn't hit AC, the rest was just for flavor. You can spend a mythic surge to try and make up the difference.

Thanks, GM. I'll use a Mythic Surge.

Mythic Surge: 1d6 ⇒ 5 That brings the attack up to 25. If these things have an AC higher than 25, then we're screwed with two of them in play and so many people down and some fleeing. Do they have some cover bonus to AC currently? I thought they were incorporeal.Just trying to gauge their strengths and figure out what Rain can do.

Variel, Rain doesn't have Know. Planes nor Arcana. Did you work out what these things are, and if so, could you answer Rain as she doesn't know. Thanks.

Rain, your attack hits the creature but doesn't seem to find as much purchase as it normally would, slightly passing through the creature. That said, you do tear a bit of it's substance apart.

You can take a move action this round. Please play out your reactions to the description above.

Variel...technically the fumble roll should come before the crit confirm...but again, I'll let it slide due to the nature of this combat being more than I thought going in. I didn't realize how unprepared vs incorporeal you guys are. That said, you do not fumble but the crit doesn't confirm either, not that it would matter as they are immune to crits. That said, for everyone, I think the easiest thing for confirmation rolls from now on is to have them be in a separate post immediately following the roll that triggered them. I.e. do your regular rolls, post it, then when you see that you potentially critted or fumbled, do a second post with the confirmations.

Dhaavan, my bad man. Totally forgot you were invisible. I wish the boards had a way to visually represent a status effect. Maybe we should start posts with an effect with an italics tag showing any status effects. Kind of like this below maybe. Any ideas anyone? Organization was always my weakness with GMing. ADD doesn't help either lol.

I AM INVISIBLE, YOU NO CAN SEE ME!

Nice shot Rain! That hit for 10 damage total due to them being incorporeal. Variel, you did a total of 14 damage due to them being incorporeal. Nice job! Also the one you hit is now fatigued! Which is weird to say for an animate dream lol.

Amen-set orders her Fire Elemental to move on to 13:B and try to occupy the same space as the enemy at that square.

GM - I'm not sure if a Fire Elemental can occupy the same square as an incorporeal creature; but I'm assuming it can and does burn damage? Please let me know if this strategy works, if it doesn't, I will try something else, but for now I'm hoping it does do burn damage to any incorporeal creature in the same space it occupies..

Amen-set orders her Elemental to do a Slam attack on the creature – meanwhile, she steps back toward Rain…

Elemental Slam attack

If it hits -
1d4 ⇒ 4 Plus Burn

Horatio sees the enemy from his current position and he uses his Rage to attack, as well as Point Blank Shot, Deadly Aim, and Archeologist’s Luck – as well as his Two-Weapon Fighting and extra attack…

Attack 1
1d20 + 6 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 - 2 = 31

If it hits -
1d8 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 1 + 2 + 6 = 17

Plus Fire Damage
1d6 ⇒ 4

Attack 2
1d20 + 6 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 - 2 = 23

If it hits -
1d8 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 + 2 + 6 = 12

Plus Fire Damage
1d6 ⇒ 6

Attack with Off hand Magical Pepper box
1d20 + 1 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 - 2 = 12

If it hits -
1d8 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 1 + 1 + 2 + 6 = 18

GM - not sure what the AC is, but if Horatio is able to hit or destroy things then he'd switch targets...

It looks like 43 damage?

Flynn I need a confirmation roll on the potential crit but the other two shots missed, although you could hit with the second one if you spent a mythic point for surge.

Before I waste another Mythic Point - you're saying a Touch Attack from a Magic Weapon at 23 misses? If it does, I'll use the Mythic Point. Meantime, I didn't know we could confirm on Incoporeal Creatures, sorry, my bad...

1d20 + 6 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 - 2 = 12

EDIT: Looks like a miss... so, basically, only 21 damage? Also, you didn't say if the Fire Elemental did any damage... I'm guessing no, since a Touch Attack of 23 misses, but just being sure...

Yep so spend the Mythic point because 23 touch did miss.

Horatio's eyes narrow as the shots erupt and the creatures recede.

"Baka kaiju..." he mutters in Minkai, then holsters his pistol.

Translated from Minkai:

First, go watch Pacific Rim - second; the only other person who can speak Minkai is Jiro, and he's not here... so why are you reading this?

Horatio stares at the floor and quickly casts Detect Magic to see if there is any residual presence of the enemy - if they are truly defeated or if they merely moved through a wall and then would pop out of the wall later to attack the party, then go back into the wall...

He rubs his chin -

No... I'm being paranoid... After all, this isn't Never Winter Nights and those things aren't a gods damned wraith...

After he gets the results for his Detect Magic spell he turns to Amen-set.

"Send your Elemental out to find Jiro-san... he may need help," he says with a flinty voice and she nods her head and obeys.

Variel stops his attack as he looks to Rain and the rest of the party. Is everyone ok and are they defeated and gone or just retreated? Injured from the devilishly cold touch of the dreams Variel is too preoccupied with their appearance and disappearance to focus. I was not expecting ghosts or dreams or whatever. We need to fall back to the ship and take stock of the situation. We need to find a way to combat these things. We need to find Jiro... Slumping down against a wall Variel lets go of the rush of adrenaline. we need to do a lot I guess.

Once Jiro gets back what do you guys want to do first? Are we able to continue exploring this fort or do we need to fall back and regroup? Perhaps we can work our way to the main gate clearing out areas as we go. Once at the main gate head back to the ship and plan to how to best combat ethereal creatures?

Horatio notes Variel's comments -

"Working on it," he says as he focuses on the place where the creatures were a minute ago, his eyes still intent on the spell Detect Magic...

"Hey - try to show some optimism... We're not dead yet," he says with a crooked grin.

" But hey, if you really want something fun to think about, consider this - I just fired multiple shots with a black powder weapon in a seemingly deserted fortress on a seemingly deserted island... you have any idea how far the sound of gun shots carry?" he says with wry smile.

"Meantime, just in case we didn't draw the attention of every living thing in at least a mile radius, what do you think the creatures livig on this island will do when they spy an Elemental that's composed of tall, brightly burning flames that is now prowling around the grounds of this deserted - albeit haunted - fortress?" he adds as he moves over to Variel.

Healing Check to see if there's anything that can be done for Variel other than a Cure Spell to help him...

Horatio now waits on the Detect Magic check as well as the Heal Check, as well as the results of where Jiro may have gone.

"Well, I guess that depends," he says somewhat laconically "seeing that a lot of what we may want to do will depend largely on how Jiro's doing when we find him, you know?" he adds.

"If he found a big clue, that could change plans - if he's injured that could adjust things, too... for now we just need results before we can move forward."

Variel - good to see you! Horatio will probably have some amended answers once we hear from the GM; until then, I think I need to crash... my meds are kicking in and I'm having trouble staying awake. See you all soon :)

Amen-set watched the Fire Elemental exit the chambers to find and aid Jiro and felt nothing but a complete confidence in Its success.

She noted Horatio’s examination of the room, as well as he then offers ministrations to Variel even as her eyes roam over the stone walls as she studies it for secrets.

She turns to Rain, as if she would say something, but suddenly stops and her eyes grow wide and a strange light is kindled in them.

Horatio looks up from his examinations and notes her expression and seems surprised and a bit nervous at her reaction.

She moves from the room and into the grounds just outside and turns her gaze to stare at the broken wall to the east and the sun beyond.

Then, she lowers herself to her knees – lifts up her hands above high above her head and lowers her face, her platinum-blonde locks falling over her eyes.

Horatio follows her out (after finding out the information from the GM) and sees her and is further surprised by her action.

He calls out gently to her -

”Amen-set… What do you see? Is everything alright?” he says with a soft voice.

She does not seem to acknowlege him, but instead she cries aloud in a strange voice, deeper and more ancient than her own voice…

Et auribus tuis audi! Regina habuit filium!

In Draconic:

”Listen carefully! The Queen has had a son!”

At her statement it seems that Horatio is equally effected – as if he can literally see an image of what it is she has spoken…

Image of Prayer

Horatio’s eyes also go wide with the surprise, then – he too – drops to his knees and bows his head with respect….

As the creatures just seem to vanish as quickly as they appeared, "Well that's odd. GOOD, mind you, but odd." Sheathing his sword, he looks to Variel. "A bit worse for wear, Captain, but all in all, managing well enough. And I agree, we should locate Seijiro, regroup, and give ourselves a "do over" for lack of a better term. And all who need mending, gather around and I shall call upon the Dawnflower to aid us." Once all who are injured are within range, Rajah calls forth his healing magic.

Horatio, your spell does not seem to reveal any residual magical emanations.

You can't find anything currently wrong with Variel other than damage you would associate with damage to his life force as a whole. Thankfully, with rest and healing he will recover from that.

Both of those thing sound good - however; what of the Fire Elemental which went into the yard to find Jiro? What was it's results to find him?

Also, to speed things up on that count, maybe you could make a post to Jiro to let him know where he ended up and what he found so we could start working his way back to us rather then just waiting for us to come to him then that would be great!

Horatio looks up at Variel -

"Seems that there's no lingering magical effects - for whatever the hell that's worth," he adds as he tosses up his hands.

"Does that mean we killed them - or does it just mean we spent our time banging something around only for it to just leave and casually heal up before we could make progress - like that octopus earlier?" he adds somewhat rhetorically.

DM Immortal wrote:

Horatio peers into Variel's eyes carefully and feels the Elf's pulse for a bit, then seems a bit relieved.

"On the plus side you don't seem poisoned and you don't seem to have you mind warped by anything - just need some healing is all..." he adds, then pauses as he hears Rajah.

He turns and looks at the man for a long moment, then he turns to Variel -

"Well, I don't see any answers any time soon... To be honest, it feels like hours - even though it's been a few seconds... So far I haven't heard anything from the Fire Elemental and we still don't know what's up with Jiro - where he went, or where he ended up... it's too damn bad that he can't snap out of it and just head back to us, but it doesn't look like that will happen for another forty-eight seconds," he adds, then he shrugs.

Turning, he heads for the door after Amen-set, but pauses by the handle - his eyes flicking to Rajah and then he looks back to Variel -

"I'm going out to make my own search - talk to you later,"

Then he shakes his head and heads after Amen-set.

Jiro:
In your panicked state you run straight out and seeing water end up running into the jungle. You run for what feels like hours but ends up only being a minute or two. You finally lose the feeling of sheer terror that has come over you and look around to see that you are ina small clearing with jungle on every side. Looking down you see several pieces of what look like broken white crockery. It's not until you look closer to find that there are actually eggs all around you.

Flynn, the fire elemental is unable to find Jiro at the moment but after a few moments searching you see where something crashed through the brush into the jungle.

Eggs? Oh I hope I didn't break them... I have a bad feeling about this... Fearing he's stumbled into the nest of something big and nasty, he cautiously backs out of the clearing and tries to go back the way he came, but that only lasts for a short distance before, not being a tracker, he loses track of his path and decides to climb a tree to see if he can see the ship or the tower.
