Tirion Jörðhár |
Not wanting anyone to be more injured than necessary, Tirion shifts to the side drawing a wand as he does. He then points the wand at the most injured raider and three small darts of light shoot forth striking the creature without err.
5-foot step to T7
Move: Draw wand of MM
Standard: use wand of MM (CL5) @ most injured raider
Damage: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 1, 2) + 3 = 7 <-- not the worst roll in history, but close

Tirion Jörðhár |
Tirion moves about the room casting Detect Magic and assuming that his short friend will finish quickly scouring the room for anything of value.
Cast Detect Magic.
Lets go through the door to the north. No way to avoid everything that might be behind us, so lets try to clear this side of the complex.
DM Harpwizard |
Under the table is a flootlocker that contains a bejeweled scepter of gold and ruby crafted in the motifs of three entwined snakes, a hand crossbow and a set of bracers. Both the handcrossbow and the bracers radiate an aura of magic.
Appraise checks on the scepter, and spellcraft checks for the crossbow and bracers.
DM Harpwizard |
The scepter is worth 1600 gold pieces.
The bracers are Bracers of Lesser Archery
The HandCrossbow is a +1 Flaming Hand Crossbow
Mirrin and Tomkin search the barracks of the blackspawn raiders and find a few overlooked potions. 3 potions of cure moderate wounds. There appears to be nothing else of value in the room.
Where to next?
Tirion Jörðhár |
The bracers will help anyone who is good at archery. The crossbow is sweet, unfortunately, it is a hand crossbow, the type usually used by drow, so I am not skilled with it.
The scepter is fairly valuable. Might as well toss everything in a bag of holding unless someone wants the bracers.
Feel free to read the spoiler if anyone wants any of the items.
I think we were planning on scouting the door to the north next. I assume the midget will lead as usual.
DM Harpwizard |
Bofus searches the northern door for traps.
Bofus Perception: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (8) + 19 = 27
He does not notice anything unusual. Upon opening the door, he creeps inside.
Stealth: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (3) + 27 = 30
He notices the following:
This large room is lit by six guttering torches set in sconces affixed to an iron railing that surrounds a five-foot=high walkway around the circumference of the room. Short flights of stairs near the room's entrance lead up to the walkway, and the walls of the room consist of five-foot-wide cells, each sealed with an iron barred door and fitted with a nasty heap of straw that seems to be pulling double duty as bedding and toilet.
The central region of the room is a well-stocked torture chamber. Chains and ropes hang from a tangle of pulley's and hooks set in the ceiling, some ending in manacles and others in clamps or cruel hooks of their own. A rack, an iron maiden, and a metal of some sort round out the chamber's morbid furnishings.
Moving around the chamber are nearly a dozen creatures that appear to be roiling waves of flesh gushing around. Each fatty creature wriggles half-formed limbs and a dripping tumorous face.
Bofus Beerswizzler |
I'll hold those bracers, if no one else will...no sense in wasting them, right??
Bofus creeps back and describes the room, and its inhabitants, in full to everyone.
Tomkin the Doughty |
Tom waves his first wand, then his second.

Before battle, the party seems blessed and Tom has a shimmering shield.
Tirion Jörðhár |
My rolls were for UMD -- crossed my acronyms!! Buffing will end if we are discovered first, but hoping to get two buffs in.
Whew. Had me worried there. Was unsure why you were defending against Bless and Shield. Thought perhaps our paladin had turned on us.
DM Harpwizard |
You immediately recognize Bofus' description to be a Devil, Lemure. Useful facts you are aware of are their resistance to weapons other than good or silver. They are immune to fire, mind-affecting effects, and poison; Resist acid 10, cold 10.
To be honest, you are not sure why such pathetically useless devils are even inhabiting this dungeon, except perhaps to use up your invaluable resources.
Tirion Jörðhár |
Strange. Those sound like lemure devils. Probably the weakest of all the infernal hosts. The question is, why would such useless grunts be in this place? Most everything else has been chaotic in nature, not lawful as most of devilkind is.
If we attack them, use silver weapons, or something blessed by a good deity.
Perhaps we should tread carefully here, this seems like either a delay tactic, or a trap.
Tirion Jörðhár |
Tirion shakes his head:
While we view the world as good and evil. On the lower planes, it is an endless battle between law and chaos. I believe that Tiamat is effectively a super powerful demon dragon. These are devils. I have never heard of the two uniting. Usually, they would both ignore even angels to fight on another, with the victor then turning back to the fight against good.
