DM? Can you delete my round 2 post? I got confused and ahead of myself and reacted to the old battlemat and not the new. Thanks! I'll be more careful next time.
Unfortunately, I cannot delete any posts. You can delete and edit your own posts up to an hour after you've made the post, but after that, it is too late. If you need to revise your post before I resolve it, that is fine. Just be sure to label it as Round 2, Revised. Also, please don't feel that you have to post in the order of initiative, especially if you are going to be out for several hours and you know your round is coming up. The other option is to use if then statements. You can post "If the giant is still alive I will fire an arrow, otherwise I will move down the dock and attack a hobgoblin with my blade". I am pretty flexible. I just ask that players be just as flexible and forgiving of me.

Thordak son of Throtgar |

Hi folks, I have just moved in to my new apartment at school and I am taking an intensive language course, where I'll be going to a retreat for a week and I probably won't get to post much. DMHW and others, please feel free to help me out and RP!

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I'm getting a LOT of activity from my resume this week. Next week I have 4 phone/face-to-face interviews, two of which are incredibly cool: the Boston Museum of Science, and NHPR! I'm jazzed!!

Tirion Jörðhár |

Once we finish getting settled, I will have to get DMHW and Bofus down here to game. Perhaps Bofus can bring one or two other players. I would invite you Shifty, but I think that the 24 hour flight might make it slightly inconvenient.

Someone has been bitten by the GenCon bug...(I can easily find more players. The problem will be limiting the number!!)

DM Harpwizard |

I really did get bit badly by the Gen Con bug! My wife is even encouraging me to go every year! I don't know if I can swing it every year, but I would like to try as often as I can. Even if I don't make it to GenCon, I would still like to play table top more often than I do. Tirion, let's think of a date we can schedule to start a campaign, or at least a few Pathfinder Society Scenarios.
Just a heads up, we have booked our flights to Scotland for July 2014. I think we will be gone the entire month. We are going to hike the Southern Upland Way which is the west coast to the east coast. It will take us nearly three weeks to do, plus we will spend some time in Edinburgh and Glasgow. I'm sure that I will be without internet while I'm on the trail and our campaign will need to rest at that time.
I've just gotten into reading The Order of the Stick. I've been laughing so hard that I've had tears running down my eyes. Is it just me or do you guys find them absolutely hilarious?
So, has anyone heard from Simon Drake? He has not posted since Thursday pm. The battle is wrapping up, but we still have a few rounds remaining. I hope everything is alright.

Tirion Jörðhár |

Give me a week or two to finish getting the house unpacked/setup. Then hopefully I will be able to convince my wife to let me have a few minutes free. I have not played tabletop except with DMHW in over 20 years, and I think that I have only played with him perhaps 3-4 time in that period. It would definitely be fun. Some PF Scenarios would be good, at least to start, as I have never joined the PF Society and probably should.

Order of the STick is one of the few webcomics I follow. (The other big one is Erfworld--genius!!) Yes, it's laugh-out-loud funny.
I'll touch base with Simon, see what's what.
Edit: never mind, he posted last night!

![]() |

You have to start at the beginning of Erfworld. Be prepared for tons of crazy pop culture/video game references you'll have to look up to get!

DM Harpwizard |

Hey Guys,
I just got an email from Vermont's Venture Captain and he told me about Caranage in the Mountains . I am not sure I can splurge for the housing, but if some of you guys were interested, it may cut down the price and you may be able to twist my arm. It may not be the same scope as Gencon, but it would be three days of Pathfinder! Tell me what you think?

Tirion Jörðhár |

Interesting. I actually think that the boys are out of town that weekend visiting their grandparents in Chicago. I will have to talk with my spouse about that one.
__________
On another note, I was trying to finish mowing the lawn around our new home. I have a rechargeable mower from our old home which was great for the miniature excuse of a lawn we had in Chicago, but is a little insufficient here. So far I have recharged it 5 times and am almost finished mowing the lawn once.
Anyway, I was trying to mow under a tree when I looked up and there, about 3 feet in front of me, was a cute little wasp nest. By "cute little" I mean that it was probably 12-18 inches in diameter and 2 feet tall. A second later I felt a sharp sting on my head. Although clearly one wasp got me in the surprise round, I managed to win the initiative and made a quick withdrawal action to avoid any more little stingers. Now the question is how to get rid of a nest that is the size of 3-4 basketballs. I think that burning hands would be best, but do not want to burn the tree at the same time.

![]() |

Lightning bolt won't ignite combustibles, I think.
doing whatever you're going to do after dusk is probably best (at least, I think so--that's true for bees, not sure about wasps)
Good thing it stung your head rather than anywhere that has anything important in it...

DM Harpwizard |

Tirion, maybe you should buy a long extension chord for your lawn mower. Is it electric because you are afraid your own kids will take after you and put sand in the gas tank so they don't need to mow the lawn?
We have a wasp nest on our porch and my wife got stung earlier this summer. We were trying to let them live there peacefully, but now we are at war with them. We are hoping that the winter will be really cold and will suck for them.

Tirion Jörðhár |

Na, got the rechargeable mower because in Chicago a "big" lawn is somewhere between tiny and inconsequential. I could mow the front and backyard in about 45 minutes if I was really careful and trimmed everything.
Although I like to be green, I think that the wasps out front are going to experience either severe nerve damage or a sudden increase in their heat, to several hundred degrees.

Captain Simon Drake |

If they're really ornery you can do a few things, go at night, but on long clothes, get two cans of poison (one for each hand) start about 15feet back and give short burst sprays until you're at the right range, then SOAK profusely. If they're too nuts to even get near you can make a wasp trap. Cut the top off a two liter, put some old fruit/jam/beer (something sweet) in the bottom of the bottle, then replace the top upside down.

Captain Simon Drake |

I just got rid of a nest for my parents a few weeks ago, it took a few tries, they had nested themselves into a network of gutters at my parents house.

Tirion Jörðhár |

It gets cold at night here this time of year - close to freezing. I have been told at that temperature you can practically pick up the nest (with gloves, long pants and long sleeves). My plan is to soak the heck out of the nest with poison, and then the next night to cut the nest down and burn it.
Either way, it will be gone in a few days at most.

DM Harpwizard |

Thanks for everybody's post today. I am eager to wrap this battle up. My goal is always to get through at least one round in the battle each day. I will do more if we can. I thought we were doing well up to this round, but everything suddenly slipped. It is not a problem, but if you folks know that you are going to be away, just give us a heads up and we can have another player post for you. This just keeps things moving. Thanks! If I have failed to notice something, not replied to your questions, or made a mistake, please speak up and correct me. I am an expert at making mistakes.

DM Harpwizard |

Hi Folks,
I don't know why this campaign has slowed down so much. I am not complaining, because I am rather busy with gigs, soccer games, and lots of school stuff. However, if you want to continue, all you have to do is tell me your plans and when I post again, I will tell you what happens next. This is the nature of a sandbox like campaign. You have the freedom to go and do whatever you like. I want to give you folks plenty of time to role play, but let me know if you wish for time to be fast forwarded.

![]() |

I can't speak for anyone else, but I think the current situation makes forward momentum a little tricky. We've got 2 new (and 1 new-ish) faces to get introduced to, but that typically doesn't happen in a pre-wartime situation. The battle we just had is a good way to introduce folks, but the fact that it was the very first battle of a long-anticipated war means we don't know if the war is starting in earnest NOW, or if that was just a probe/skirmish and we have time for the "typical RP intros" one might expect with new characters.
That, and so much has happened in the past few hours in-game (over a lot of days in RL) that this has been a VERY full day for our heroes. Bofus had been looking forward to a nice snuggle with his elf girlfriend; he got sidetracked with the Kaal situation, and then there was a battle. While he's always eager to meet new folks, especially comrades in arms, he's also eager to get re-acquainted with his hot elf GF (and to write to his father to let him know that he may be able to start selling beer in Brindol now, thanks to "Bofus and Friends!").
That's why I've been more silent than usual; I want to see whether there is more widespread action ready to start before committing to anything else.

DM Harpwizard |

No worries, Bofus. I know you are Tirion are always here to post. I appreciate the difficult position you are in. Perhaps a little R&R before the battle would be good!
Well, we have no internet at work right now, so I am definitely limited to posting in the mornings and evenings right now.
This Friday we are off to Quebec City to see the one and only Steve Hackett play a Genesis set list that includes "Supper's Ready" , "The Musical Box" and "Unquiet Slumbers for the Sleepers in that Quiet Earth". I don't know the actual set list, but I know that it will be nothing later than "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway".

Tirion Jörðhár |

Sweet - have fun, although it is hard to not have fun in Quebec City as it is such a cool city.
As far as moving forward, I want to find the leader Wyrmlord. I thought that we knew he was in the mountains somewhere. We also know about a red metal mine. Tirion personally could use a little rest as he is a bit short on spells about this point.
We can also attempt to sneak into the heart of the enemy army and attempt to take out a few Wyrmlords, this is dangerous and I do not know if I have enough magic to get us all back out at this point.

DMHW, I'm desperately jealous of your trip!! You'll have to tell me if he does Valley of the Kings. We chose that tune as our party's theme after we did the Doomgrinder adventure. The only person I can think of besides you or I who would be more jealous is Chip, a HUGE Steve fan.

DM Harpwizard |

I had an amazing trip to Quebec! As you can imagine, Bofus, Steve Hacket was phenomenal! I never dreamed that I would hear some of these old pieces. It was like going back to a Genesis concert in 1976. He played for two and a half hours with no break. The set list was as follows:
Watcher of the Skies
Dancing With the Moonlit Knight
Fly on a Windshield
Broadway Melody of 1974
The Lamia
The Musical Box
Horizons
Blood on the Rooftops
Unquiet Slumbers for the Sleepers...
...In That Quiet Earth
Afterglow
The Fountain of Salmacis
I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)
Dance on a Volcano
Supper's Ready
Encore:
Firth of Fifth
Los Endos
The website above has all of the audio/video tracks from Dublin Ireland earlier on this tour. Talk about a trip down memory lane. If he ever performs anywhere near New England, we must buy tickets for this event and make it happen!
Although the weekend was great, I'm glad to be back home again. I had to play a wedding yesterday afternoon, immediately following the four hour drive back from Quebec. I also had another three hour gig this afternoon. I'm going to sleep well tonight.

![]() |

Wow. YOu need to be a Genesis fan to recognize almost all of those. (I'm not even sure I would recognize "Horizons" if I heard it!!)
I agree--if he finds his way here, I think I need to go!

![]() |

One of my dreams is to find a guitarist and keyboardist (or harpist???) with enough skill and desire to play Firth of Fifth and Second Home By the Sea with me. (I'd need a good deal of practice to get ready for that jam, but I think I could do it...) Trying to get my kids back into their music, but they're only lukewarm.
