Relan* |

With the group at X Relan nods once and makes the run for the seeming cover of Y. His weapon is held ready to deflect any missiles.

DM Fflash |

Gathering himself for a moment, Relan takes a couple deep breaths and then bursts from hiding, charging the few feet across open space under the balcony's eastern view zone and then hits the flat stone surface inside the inner wall.
He hears a sharp cry of alarm and then a wailing, high-pitched scream rips off, getting closer and closer to him. It rips by and ends as a crossbow bolt clatters against the floor about 10 feet to the east of him.
Motion and noise can be heard all over the keep, most notably the chattering of the redcap on the balcony but also ...

The rest of the party rushes through and again a few bow strings twang, but they are way late. However, the redcap gibberish reaches a more fevered intensity and you can hear them rushing around, doors and stools clattering.
Everyone can roll the Perception checks and look under the spoilers above ... success enables you to act in the surprise round relative to the one(s) that you succeed
The door to the west crashes open and a massive bulk fills the human-sized door. You see one and then two heads swing back and forth through the hole and then the bulk moves away slightly, javelins hefted in each of the what you now identify as an ettin's hands.
The area behind the ettin is some sort of destroyed refectory. An elaborate fresco depicting a banquet shared by the many deities of Golarion decorates the four walls of this dining hall. The refectory is in complete disarray, with smashed tables and chairs and all kinds of cutlery and crockery scattered here and there amid loads of dirt and rubbish. You spy some other large creatures moving in the bulk back behind him, but you can't get a visual bead on them due to the blocking beast and the shadowy insides. You hear another door crash open to the northwest which elicits screaming from the redcaps.
The creature(s) from the ruined tower float along, their bodies camouflaging with the wall. They stop and undulate disgustingly allowing you a good view of the creatures. Each appears to be a mass of floating intestines tangled around a fanged mouth—the tips of its coils also end in toothy maws. (Knowledge Planes DC25 for more)

I can just barely make that DC 37 with a 19 or 20. I do have see invisible up if that helps
Ok, I made all but the DC 37 perception check. I will act in the surprise round, but I would like to get the response from my knowledge check first.
Question for FFlash
I have circled what I think is the "human" sized door in purple... Can the ettins squeeze through that? (Also, are the ettins in the right scale? given the square on the map are 10X10, it looks like they have 20X20 bases, which isn't right.)
How high up are the creatures from the ruined tower floating?

DM Fflash |

Bonus for high rolls: They have standard qlippoth immunities to mind-affecting spells, cold and poison as well as resistance to fire and electricity. These particular ones are immune to acid, too. Finally their chaotic nature gives them physical damage resistance overcome only by those instilled with the essence of order and law[/ooc]
Yes the ettins could possibly squeeze through that door. Their size was wrong ... I need to check all my tokens now ... thanks, fixed!
The floating creatures are about 10 feet off the ground
EDIT: I also just noted Andel's location on the map ... I assumed in my narrative that he was with the others. In that location he will be a pincushion. Let me know if you wish him to stay there or move to be next to the rest of the party

Gemel Valdemar |

I wouldn't have put Andel there, but ... I was assuming he'd plant his back against the wall beside me.
Gemel points at the eastern things and whispers to everyone using his message spell "Those camouflaged critters to the east are qlippoths - their minds are unaffected by mortal magic, they ignore acid, cold and poison and are resistant to fire and lightning. Their damage reduction is penetrated by lawful weapons. I can hold up the giants ... I think"
Gemel crouches, peeking around the corner of the wall (cover) , and casts a Murderous Command spell on the visible Ettin, extending it with his Lesser Extend Rod.
Will Save DC 18

Relan* |

I think I have already made my perception checks except the DC37 which he cannot make. Relan is also better suited to deal with the ettins than the qlippoths but will do what he can. I wonder if the qlippoth would attack the ettins?.
Init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
In the surprise round Relan re-alligns his weapon to become Axiomatic and steps towards the qlippoth he sees.

Fighter thing - Warrior Spirit from Advance Weapon Training. Standard action. 3/day. Up to a +2 enchant for now. Will go higher as I level

Andel Gessaran |

Andel moves into the hall and begins calling out the ettin's weaknesses to the group - +2 insight bonus to AC and on attack rolls and saving throws against extraordinary, supernatural, and spell.

Braelex |

Braelex takes cover in the rubble and fires at the thing in the doorway.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 17 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 17 + 2 = 24; Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 plus Acid: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Is there any way I can call up my golem from the end of the hall, or is it just too far away now?

DM Fflash |

Relan and Gemel act in the surprise round, although Relan is unaware of the creatures to the east during surprise since he didn't make the check. Gemel's call out will aid him for Round 1, but since he is just realigning his weapon and taking a step, I think we can still do that.
Surprise Round
Init: Ettins, Kob-Kog, Relan, Gemel, Qlippoth
The first ettin at the door squeezes his massive bulk through the door and then lumbers up to Relan, a spiked flair in each hand, balls spinning as he comes forward.
An ettin behind him throws a javelin at the warrior as well that catches him on the armor, but bounces off ineffectually.
Ettin javelin vs Relan: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20; miss
From the north, more creatures appear, a particularly large and dark ettin, one head wrapped in bandages and the other wearing a helmet appears around the corner. It carries a battleaxe in one hand and a large pick in the other.
Picture loaded to Roll 20 as Kob-Kog
Gemel pokes his head out and casts a spell at the ettin, which then immediately begins arguing with itself, before one of its heads turns a sly look behind it and it starts to turn away from Relan.
Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8; fail
The qlippoth undulate disgustingly, dripping green ichor from their orifices and wafting disgusting stench.
Almost in sequence with its movement, billowing clouds of cloying greenish fog envelop the party (except Braelex) and the engaged ettin, centered on Relan. The fog is caustic and sears at your exposed skin.
The second qlippoth peels away and flies/floats forward exposing itself to Braelex's awareness.
The creature's horrific nature and awful stench turns the tiefling's stomach. (Make a Will Save DC18 or be nauseated 1d8 ⇒ 6 rounds)
Everyone in the cloud takes 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4 acid damage and is reduced to half movement, -2 to attack and damage, no ranged attacks (except magic rays) and no 5 foot steps
Initiative for the others plus Round 1 actions for all .. the qlippoth are now visible to everyone

Relan* |

Relan and Gemel act in the surprise round, although Relan is unaware of the creatures to the east during surprise since he didn't make the check. Gemel's call out will aid him for Round 1, but since he is just realigning his weapon and taking a step, I think we can still do that.
Relan had already made that check above. He saw one and did not see the other. I felt it unfair to roll again for the same perception check.

Relan* |

For Relan's turn he intends to move out the cloud towards the Qlippoths. But he is low in initiative so things might happen to change that.

Gemel Valdemar |

A couple of questions
1) What do I know/can figure out about this cloud? From the description, it's a Spell Like, so spellcraft applies:
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 + 3 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 10 + 3 + 7 = 34
10 ranks +3 trained +7 dice
In particular does the damage from the cloud count as continuing damage (needs concentration rolls to cast in...)
2) A question about the effects of Murderous Command. Will the Ettin take AoO's on people it's not focused on killing right now?
Another Spellcraft in case you want it: 1d20 + 10 + 3 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 10 + 3 + 7 = 30
10 ranks +3 trained +7 dice
As to my actions, I am going to hold off for now - I need to know where the assorted Ettins and Kob-Kog are when I go to skip AoO's (or is there current positioning reflective of where they are at the end of their round 1 moves? According to the init order, they go before myself and Relan.)
edit: Note that I have marked off the 4 damage, I am down to 12 temporary HP (from 16) from my false life spell.

Gemel Valdemar |

Another Q for Fflash: Is that will save that Braelax needs to make a used ability or is it an aura effect? Also, is it a mind-affecting effect or a poison/stench effect?
Also, apologies for the terrible drawing (line in purple), but I have tried to mark exactly which squares are in the fog on the map... The little circle in the middle is where it looks to me like they centered it.

DM Fflash |

@Andel, only Braelex was affected, at the moment, by the horrific appearance
Two Heads are Better than None Round 1
Init: Vuloo, Ettins, Kob-Kog, Andel, Braelex, Relan, Gemel, Qlippoth
Vuloo blesses the party with fervor. (Declare each round please .. default will be the +2 bonus if you fail to choose)The flail-wielding ettin steps to follow Relan pushing through the solid acid fog and expending more energy than expected pushing up almost all the way on the warrior before he swings his flail. (No AoO since he has complete concealment greater than 5 feet away
To hit vs Relan: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30; HIT!
Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 45; HIT!
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13
The northern ettin bellows orders to the ettins behind, "Gets 'round north. Da fog in da way!" He then rushes forward to engage Vuloo, lowering a shoulder to knock the halfling down.
Improved Trip vs Vuloo CMD: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (13) + 20 = 33; if successful, Vuloo is tripped.
The party can hear the other ettins shift to meet the demands of their leader.
Andel vomits and Braelex moves. Relan withdraws to the east to engage the qlippoth. 3 squares to get to the edge of the cloud and 6 to get where you are. Make a Will Save DC18 vs the horrific appearance or be nauseated 1d8 ⇒ 5 rounds

@Gemel
Ok, I'm not getting it; I'm looking at the map and I am just confused... I can see you've moved the Ettins and Kob Kog
1) Ettin that I targeted with Murderous Command - that failed his save - stayed still on the map?2) Or is he: " The northern ettin bellows orders to the ettins behind, "Gets 'round north. Da fog in da way!" He then rushes forward to engage Vuloo, lowering a shoulder to knock the halfling down."?
First He can't see Vuloo twice over a) Invisibility (Vuloo's ring), and b) the acid fog in the way... Second, Murderous Command means he should be trying to kill his allies, not Vuloo, never mind giving effective tactical direction. c) Can Vuloo be tripped - he's air walking and thus has a fly speed "...and flying creatures—cannot be tripped."
3) Why is Andel vomiting if "@Andel, only Braelex was affected, at the moment, by the horrific appearance"
4) "The flail-wielding" ettin closed with Relan and attacked. Relan is 50 ft from the nearest Ettin on the map...

Gemel Valdemar |

I also missed something. Both Vuloo and Relan have a mirror image apiece, from symbol of mirroring. I don't think it affects anything, because both the trip and the attack were against targets they couldn't see anyways...

DM Fflash |

Retcon: The flail-wielding ettin turns and rushes back out of the cloud and into the dining room, squeezing in through the doorway and swinging at his fleeing brother smashing him (using same roll above as an AoO). The other ettin halts in his tracks and swings back.
"Stop it. Kill little ones. No time for dis."
To hit: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 6 = 14
The leader doesn't see Vuloo (as I some reason thought Vuloo broke invis, but reading back he has not) and instead stays on the outside of the cloud, sniffing and hunting.
Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 16 = 18
3) Andel can act. Joys of writing a post while listening to streaming mass online.
4) This is OBE, but he would've attacked and then Relan withdrew on his action.

Gemel Valdemar |

Gemel sees the enchanted Ettin fade into the fog as it moves away, and follows it cat-footing around the corner. As soon as he is free of the painful acidic fog, he begins to cast...
Move action, 15', which just gets him out of the fog
Standard Action - start casting Summon Monster V - it will complete next turn after consuming a move action. As he is not threatened he will not cast defensively...
Taking the +2 from BoF
@Fflash Also, a question, I think this space we are in (myself, Relan, the Qlippoths, etc.) is roofed; how high is the ceiling? ( I am trying to figure out if Resolute Giant Scorpions (large, Reach, can climb) can effectively engage flying Qlippoths...) @Vuloo this Q is important to you too...

Relan* |

Hmm. Was not getting updates to any of my games. Sorry for my delay. Though I am not sure if I am up or not since I am so low in initiative order. And after the Retcon I believe Relan will change his action.
Not seeing a reason to subject himself yet to the horrific appearance of the qlippoth, Relan moves out of the fog to protect Braelex.

DM Fflash |

End of Round 1
The qlippoth both move, one floats forward and the other undulates awfully and then shimmers unaturally, reappearing next to Relan and Braelex causing the two to retch at it's awfulness.
Make that Will Save, Relan
The other one spits a globule of acid out with the speed and trajectory of an arrow ... it flies directly at Braelex.
Acid Arrow touch attack vs Braelex: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34
Acid damage: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7
At Vuloo and Andel retcon

Relan* |

Question: Can Relan divert or even close his eyes? Normally you can against such things and he is pre-warned from Braelix's results. Nauseated sucks bad and that is a long time.... Also what type effect is it? Relan is +2 vs. fear and transmutation. He will divert his gaze for a bonus if allowed.

Relan* |

OK. Lets try this. Divert Gaze: 50% chance of not having to make the saving throw. I always go with High is good for the players but seems it would be better for you to roll it.
Knowing the threat of the creature, Relan averts his gaze, granting the enemy concealment from him.
Will Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Andel Gessaran |

Andel attemnpts to divert his gaze as he moves to Relan and casts heroism (+2 morale bonus to attacks/saves).
Divert Gaze: 1d100 ⇒ 78
