Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |

You guys aren't really gonna let Agrippa do this are you?
Agrippa manages to keep from opening the book once again, but just barely. He seems a bit out of it, in a daze, and he follows along.
GM, I'm not sure of the mechanics, but Agrippa was looking for something to cover the book so that he doesn't have to physically touch it while carrying it (If physical touch is necessary for the Guardian to attack). (Or he can put it in his handy haversack)

Lizzie "beads" Tamar |

Messing with you.
Lizzie does look at Agrippa a bit concerned.
"You do realize what that book did to the previous guy who tried holding onto it too long. I'm no college professor, but i am very sure it will be unhealthy if you keep it on you at all times."
She looks at him with a friendly yet inquisitive look.
"Ask yourself, you, the guy with the brains as sharp as your rapier, would it be logical and wise to keep it on your person at all times?
We've lost one friend to an undead monster already, there is no sense in losing another to an ancient evil grimoire."
Diplomacy RP, make Sherlock see reason: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17

DM Fang Dragon |

Agrippa you could wrap it up in your cloak or put it in a bag. Whether that actually helps is another matter entirely!

Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |

INT: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
As soon as we have Momijii back, I can relinquish the book. We all face danger here, some of us through strength of arms...some of us in other ways. it seems like Lizzie's speech has taken some of the fever from Arippa's voice and sobered him up to the risks involved in keeping such a grimoire in his possession.
Agrippa wraps the book in his cloak, so that he does not risk touching it.

DM Fang Dragon |

The ghost of Causton Creed watches you pick up the tome and he frantically points at his corpse! He's extremely agitated and practically pleading with you.

Luxina Tenebris |

Int: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Luxina looks at Agrippa and shakes her head. "I'm not too sure about that book. It's not safe."
Luxina looks at her torches and lights one.
"I'd say we burn it, we can find another way to resurrect Momiji. A less risky and a less evil way that doesn't use the blood and souls of innocent people."
With that said, Luxina strecthes out an empty hand towards the book Agrippa is holding. She is curious to see how he reacts.
"I'm also curious and avid about knowledge and tomes, but this one is obviously vile and should be destroyed."
Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Luxina motions with her head towards the body of Causton Creed.
"Seems he's quite eager for us to find something. I can't talk to the dead, but that seems like a plea for help to me."

DM Fang Dragon |

My dreams had been troubled for weeks before I found it buried at the foot of a stelae. Like a siren it calls to me, waiting to divulge it's forbidden knowledge. Oh how I long to open it, but there is a guardian. It is a servant of the Yellow King, I know that much. I must figure out how to bypass it.
My elation at finding the book has turned to sorrow. It has been weeks now, and my research has been for naught, the guardian does not respond to any pass-phrase I can think of. My... My temper has flared much of late and the congregation had fled. Pharasma has never felt so distant, I did not receive spells yesterday or today...
It calls to me still, stronger and stronger. Yet victory will soon be at hand for I believe I have discovered the secret to bypassing the guardian, it came to me in a dream... A being within the alien city of my new master spoke to me. Tonight I shall open from the book and read from it. It is well I penned several scrolls before I lost my spells, I shall be able to defend myself from the guardian if needed.
The last bit is written in blood.
I have been deceived, the guardian stole my mind and it has now ruined my body. If you read this, burn the bloody book, it shall only bring you grief.

Lizzie "beads" Tamar |

Int: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Ahahaha!
"Thinking of it, we probably don't even -need- the book for the ritual."
When Luxina speaks her concern, Lizzie nods.
"We could see if a high ranking priest is at one of the temples, able to provide us with more information for a potential alternative. Reviving is costly after all."
..."Because...especially since sacrificing more people is not befitting us.
What was i even -thinking-? We -must- find an alternative."

Winter K |

Yeah, the scroll case I grabbed earlier.
Winter nodded in agreement with Lizzie and said, "The book must be burned, we will find another way to restore Momijii. The note in the scroll case said that it must be burned. We can't wait to do the ritual because the guardian will wake up. Don't you think that Caston had the best of intentions with that book?" She pointed to the ghost, "Look what it got him, excommunicated and disgraced, betrayed by the forces he tried to harness. there is no time to debate, we must destroy that foul tome right now."
diplomacy add 2 if Heinrich could be sexually attracted to Winter: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |

Have you guys been reading my spoilers? Agrippa is the only one who knows the ritual (because he read the book)...and Agrippa doesn't share his secrets
-Posted with Wayfinder

Filbert Springbit |

..."Because...especially since sacrificing more people is not befitting us.
"Umm not to be a hard case or anything but my understanding, and it may be woefully inadequate this isn't my thing, but didn't you say the stelae had already been primed for whatever rite they wanted to do? So we would be bringing Momijii back and preventing whatever they planned at the same time...."
Looking back and forth between the others Filbert's eye light on the tome. "By all means destroy that thing, it's not even necessary for this ritual right?"

DM Fang Dragon |

Uh folks, it seems Heinrich hasn't told you what he read in the book. Up to you how this is resolved, but perhaps you could persuade him to tell you what he read or maybe we could retcon somebody else having read it (please make a will save if you do).

Lizzie "beads" Tamar |

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
"Agrippa, if you are so certain about this book, could you please give details about the ritual?"
Should poor Heinrich still be compelled to keep the book, she forces herself to take a peek at a moment Agrippa wouldn't be paying attention.
Sleight of handWill: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Hopefully that's enough.

Winter K |

Glad I never mentioned the mechanics of the ritual then. Not sure how that came out. At least he did tell us there was a ritual.

Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |

Agrippa turns his wild eyes on the party Why must you seek to destroy! This tome has such secrets! Such Knowledge! All would be lost! he whirls about madly and then his hands begin shaking and the Tome drops to the ground at his feet I. I. Do not know what came over me. It is cursed, and deadly. Of course it should be burned

Luxina Tenebris |

Luxina carefully keeps an eye on Heinrich, as she slowly moves the book over to herself with her foot. When it's close enough, she puts the torch to it and watches it burn to the last page.
"What's been done with it, will never happen again through these pages. This is a good deed."

DM Fang Dragon |

Luxina finds the tome surprisingly hard to Kindle. It just sort of singes at first, eventually lamp oil is thrown over it and it goes up like a firework with a woosh! A great pall of smoke billows out and in the shadows something terrible lingered connected seemingly to the large gemstone. With a loud crack the stone shattered releasing a thing borne of nightmare and shadow! It seems momentarily dazed by the fire which is rapidly guttering out!
You have 1 round. Use it wisely!

Luxina Tenebris |

Knowledge Planes: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
Luxina looks aghast as a black ghost-like being erupts forth from the now cracked gemstone.
"Look out!" She cries out as a sudden inflow of knowledge rushes forward.
"That's a shadow demon that is. Nigh impenetrable except for holy weapons or cold iron if I recall correctly. Lizzie, you up for a round two?"
Luxina says as she hurries to brighten up her torch by throwing a special blend of chemicals on it.
Using my alchemist 4th level ability.
Rounds before explosion: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |

Kn:Planes: 1d20 + 9 + 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 9 + (4) + 4 = 32 I'll just read the statblock
It is powerless in the Sunlight! Agrippa calls out
Honestly, we are f%+@ed if we actually have to fight this thing.
Agrippa begins looking for an exit, and retreats towards it.
I hope its daylight soon...or else we really are screwed

Lizzie "beads" Tamar |

I'm kinda with Agrippa on this, that thing could really screw us over, if rolls are good for it.
"Powerless in sunlight? Awesome, but we'll need to get out of here for that to be so."
If Agrippa sees a way out, Lizzie withdraws as well, activating smite evil if we can't escape immediately.
She'd have to be the last one to withdraw, be a barrier between it and her friends.

DM Fang Dragon |

Heinrich with that roll you recognize this shadow demon has been weakened by the stress of being bound and then the tome's destruction (aka simple young template). A standup battle will be tough, although you do have the means to bypass it's DR. As for daylight, it's probably 4-4:30 am by now. Sunrise is in about 15-20 minutes.

Filbert Springbit |

"Niles what would happen if you destroyed the sunrod?"
Filbert calls out with possible inspiration. All the while thinking about what Luxina had said. Nigh impenetrable except for holy weapons or cold iron if I recall correctly
With a gulp Filbert withdraws his dagger. and steps up beside Lizzie opposite of Luxina. Staying close to Lizzie but out of her way martially.
Basically swapping places with Niles, if he is agreeable

Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |

The Sunrod doesn't count as Daylight....unfortunately.
To Filbert Agrippa calls out Nothing! The Sunrod is naught but alchemy, there is no Sun there!
GM; If I could redo my "action" Agrippa would realize that there's no actual running from this thing (Sprint ability, teleportation)
We must delay it until sunrise! Agrippa shouts. He allows Filbert and Lizzie to get closer and he prepares to aid their defense
Gonna pump AC and hope we can outlast it!

Winter K |

Winter looked at the thing in worry, she had no clue what it was, not really, though the fact it was a demon as pointed out by her comrades made her worried. She spoke up and said, "I don't have much that will likely help against that thing. It would be best if we withdraw and try to hold out for sunrise." With that she prepared to withdraw if the others agreed.
Sadly I do have a spell that would help but I don't have the knowledge to know it will right now.

Winter K |

It dawned on Winter then that the re was something she could do to help and said, "Wait a moment, one of the scrolls can help." She pulled out the parchment she needed and said, "Here, I think we can fight it with this. Hold up your weapons." Once that was done Winter read quickly from the scroll and caused everyone's chosen weapon to become blessed by the forces of good. "There, we can hurt it now."

Filbert reaches out and grabs the nearest barrel a flings it at the demon. His weapon may be blessed but he is still not a front liner.

Luxina waits for the demon to close the distance and delays until it has made its first move.

Guess I'll have to bot Heinrich and Winter. Will post in a few hours.

Winter K |

With her weapon blessed and few other options Winter aimed with her dagger and let it fly at the demon.
dagger returning/seeking/good aligned: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 261d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
The blade flew with incredible accuracy as it sailed in at the demon to plunge into it's shoulder.

Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |

Doh, I missed that combat had started...I was waiting on you.
Agrippa assists in defending Lizzie Aid AC: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

DM Fang Dragon |

Filbert concentrates and reaches out for something to smash against the nightmare of shadow in front of them. He finds a barrel and levitates it, aiming to smash it against the demon's flank. Such a large weight proves to be unwieldy and the demon easily sidesteps the barrel, cackling all the while, it's eyes burning coals shrouded in shadow!
Winter expertly throws a dagger. The demon smirks at the the tiny blade which whips end over end as it tumbles towards it. The blade flares with radiance and it lands and the demon bellows in surprise at it's sting for it had been centuries since it had known pain.
Knowing that a counter attack is about to strike, Agrippa prepares to defend Lizzie. Luxina also waits to see where it's strike will fall, however the demon doesn't immediately rush into attack. Cackling it all the while, it chants something malevolent and suddenly the lights go out!

Not sure how much movement I can use so I'm not moving my token. Hopefully you guys move with me, because fighting this thing in darkness is suicide.

Lizzie "beads" Tamar |

Agreed.

Acro to move full speed, DC 10: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

DM Fang Dragon |

Lizzie is correct, Blind creatures need to make a DC 10 acrobatics check to move at full speed. I'm reasonably certain you want to move at full speed here! Botting winter, I doubt she wants to remain.
