Beagan Burlesquetu |

"I agree. Hey, you all are pretty good in a fight! Nicely done!"
Beagan looks at his companions, and then back on the carnage. While shocked and horrified at what's happening, the gnome's eyes begin to widen and fill with a faint of sense of purpose for the first time in a long time.

Aleksander Kramer |

"Agreed. We should head south. Fighting sound thickest there. See if we can help and check for survivors."
He pauses for a moment, blanking out the scenes of violence from his mind. Always time to mourn the dead later.
"But... Firsts things first..."
With a cautious stride, Aleks heads over to the rainbarrel, weapon raised.
Better ensure that the goblin which leapt into the rainbarrel is well and truely dead.

DM DoctorEvil |

There continues to be a clash of some kind around the north side of the church steps. The dim light and the smoke makes it hard to see exactly who or what is over there, but you hear the clash of weapons, the maniacal giggling of goblins, and the shouts of men.
To the south beyond where you sat at feast, you hear a shout (was that Ameiko's voice) and the goblin chant beginning again. The flash of light and the scream of a goblin follows.
On occasion, a random goblin sprints through the churchyard, off to some unknown mayhem but none stop to threaten you directly.
Gudada leads the companions back towards the pavilion from where you came. You see on the other side, Lady Ameiko, Lars, and Daviren Hosk leading a group of townspeople in a pitched battle against a horde of angry slavering goblins.
This is off map to the southwest end.
Aleksander, as you approach the rainbarrel with some feet sticking out, you don't see any movement, but in the dusk light it's hard to be sure. You get to the barrel and start pulling out the creature by it;s feet and see it's neck is broken. Behind the barrel you see a young boy about 4 years old cowering in fear. "Help me mister, I can't find my mommy and those bad monsters are everywhere," he says.

Aleksander Kramer |

"Where did you last see your mother, kid?" Aleksander keeps a wary appraisal of his surroundings, keeping his bow drawn as he hunches down behind the barrel with the boy.
He glances around for better cover, keeping an eye open for a safe route to a better defensible position.
"I'll keep an eye out for her, but for the moment, we need to get you out of here and somewhere safe."
Ooh boy... Gotta head this situation off before it gets real ugly... Running battle is no place for a kid...
---------------------------------------
Aleks will try to get the kid off the streets into somewhere safer. What are the buildings I flagged with blue dots? Any chance I can get across the street and get the kid indoors and out of the line of fire - preferably into a stone building?
Barring that, is the courtyard clear enough that I can run the kid to the temple grounds?

Dolgrin Hammerfist |

Question: Dolgrin was able to fetch his javelin from the goblin before we went in this direction?
"We should check fer survivors on the way," Dolgrin says. "Stabilize any injured and get 'em off the street."

DM DoctorEvil |

@Aleksander: The building with chimney (on the left) is a jewelry shop, the smaller building is the jeweler's residence it appears. The building your next to is also a small residence.
The boy nestles close to you, wide-eyed with fear but quiet. From down the road, you hear a woman's voice calling: Aeren, Aeren! Desna help me, where is my boy?" Through the gathering darkness you see her coming, oblivious to the chaos erupting all around, looking and calling for her lost son.
"It's my mom!" says the boy, pointing. "Can I go to her, mister?"
@Dolgrin:: You take a moment to retrieve your javelin from near the poor pie-man's cart before jogging (as only dwarves can) to catch up with the others.
Gudada, Viviana, Beagan and Dolgrin: You see about 100 ft away, a pitched battle being fought. Ameiko sings and directs the fight, Daviern Hosk has a long bow and is firing from behind a turned over table. Lars has taken a wooden chair and is bashing goblins this way and that in a battle rage.

Viviana |

Viviana shake her head and responds with concerned voice.
"I don't think we have time , looks like there is battle ahead.
Besides i doubt any of you have healing skill.
Go help ,i will see to the wounded and join you.
Just a moment."
Viviana tears off one of the ribbons from her glaive and tie it to the Dolgrin's arm.
" That should protect you a little."
protection from evil:Dolgrin+2 deflection bonus to AC and a +2 resistance bonus on saves vs evil creatures for 1 min
She will look for badly wounded and will try to stabilize them.

DM DoctorEvil |

@Viviana: There is no shortage of wounded, many with minor cuts or burns, but some quite seriously hurt and, unfortunately, more than a few deceased.
She kneels near one of the more greivously injured and prays devoutly to Shelyn asking her blessing on these poor souls. A musical chime is audible as the goddess answers her blessing with a stabilizing effect, keeping the patient from falling deeper into injury.
Another priest, dressed in the formal blue cassock of Desna, tends to other wounded nearby. He nods to you and when he can, he introduces himself: "I am Brother Finn, an acolyte at the Cathedral. I am afraid many of these wounds are beyond my small skills. Thank you for your assistance."
You find him to be quite striking with dark black hair and eyes, and a neatly trimmed goatee beard.

Gudada Purrun |

Glancing at the others following behind him, the young Varisian shrugs and inclines his head towards the battle as he moves quickly in the direction of the fight.
RUN forward, but not quite into the fight, stop around 25'~20' away from opponents. I figure that's 75' to 80' of movement, just under a triple move.

DM DoctorEvil |

Viviana continues her work of caring for the wounded and dying. In front of you, Brother Phineas looks up from his patients, his eyes widening in horror. He raises a finger and points back towards the Cathedral. Turning quickly you see...
Aleksander draws the child from cover and, shielding him with his body, makes his way to the distraught mother. The mother is over-joyed to see her boy again. "Oh Aeren, where did you go. Thank you soldier for returning Aeren to me, I don't know what Alergast and I..." She stops short, pointing back over your shoulder towards the Cathedral. Fearing the worst you turn round and see...
Gudada, Beagan, and Dolgrin run towards the melee. As you approach, Ameiko turns to you smiling. "About time you showed up, plenty of uglies for the killing. I think we can turn the...Oh by the Gods, no!" Her eyes widen in horror and she points to the east, back towards the Cathedral. Turning you see...
Ok, enough already, get to the next post and find out.

DM DoctorEvil |

A large fireball erupts to a point just south of the Cathedral's western entrance. The blast lights up the whole sky for a moment before the sound of the blast hits you. Nearby, someone (Amieko, or Phineas, or the worried mother) says: "Dear Gods, no! That's the fuel for tonight's bonfire. With that they can burn the whole town! You must stop them!"
Need DC 15 Perception checks from all, may not take 10 this time. Anyone with Darkvision may take +4 bonus, low-light vision +2.

After igniting a cask of oil and causing the explosion, all the base goblins grab staves of wood, igniting them in the oily flames. The singing Goblin starts up her song, stirring the other into a frothing-at-the-mouth frenzy (not that they needed much help.)
The first part of the song goes like this:
"Goblins chew and goblins bite.
Goblins cut and goblins fight.
Stab the dog and cut the horse,
Goblins eat and take by force"
Now you've hit the second wave. Looks like combat is never over at a Desna Fest. Lighting fires and singing are the goblins surprise round actions. If you made your perception check, post your surprise round actions also. Remember only a Move or Standard Action (not both) in surprise rounds.

Move Action: Advance Along Blue Arrow (30ft)

Realizing that everything has pretty much gone to hell in a handbasket, Aleks nocks another arrow and advances.
Gotta get their attention and keep them focused on me or they'll fan out.
"Oei! You annoying little buggers! Never tried burning a Human with a weapon have you?!" Aleks calls out over the din of the ensuing violence as he advances into clear view of the little pyromaniacs.
Might be able to drop one, maybe two before they get to me.... Oh boy is this going to suck...
Cautiously, he takes aim, calling insults as he advances.

"Alright, now I'm REALLY upset that you've ruined this party! Let's gettum, guys!" Beagan exclaims running forward towards the chaos.
Surprise Round: Move 20' towards the goblins.

Gudada Purrun |

Really, dicebot? Really?
"Wow! That was kinda pretty. Kinda." The young Varisian covers his eyes with his empty hand and shakes his head for a second, trying to recover his vision.

DM DoctorEvil |

Goblin Pyros - Surprise Round - continued
The goblins light flaming brands set on spreading the fire around while the Purple Goblin sings her little chants.
In response, the heroes begin to mobilize. Aleksander nocks an arrow, hurling insults at the little ankle-biters while trying to determine how to hold them off. Beagan, Dolgrin and Viviana also all advance towards the explosion and the goblin threat.
Only Gudada is night blinded enough not to make out the location of the chanting. He hesitates for a moment, looking around for the source.
End of Surprise Round

The goblins fan out taking their burning torches and begin to set building, tents or anything they see alight. White Goblin moves towards the pavilion selling colorful Varisian scarfs and ignites the canvas of the tent. A family of Varisian gypsies hidden inside begins screaming in fear as the fire engulfs the stall.
Blue Goblin sees Viviana coming and comes out to challenge her waving his flaming stick in the air.
The chanting Purple Goblin continues the goblin song, exhorting her followers to more acts of mayhem.
"Goblins race and goblins jump.
Goblins slash and goblins bump.
Burn the skin and mash the head,
Goblins here and you be dead"
Time for Gudada, Alek, and Viv to go for the heroes. Full round actions now. Good luck!

Gudada Purrun |

Hearing the cries in Varisian, 'Dada scrambles up to the now-burning tent crying out in Varisian "There are goblins attacking come towards my voice, come to me and escape the fight and fire!"

DM DoctorEvil |

Goblin Pyros - Round 1 - continued
Gudada rushes across the courtyard, not to the fight but to save his kinsmen in the burning tent. He calls to them as he approaches and he sees the merchant and his wife and two children, one a teenage girl the other a younger lad, escape the blaze. They scurry off to the (relative) safety of the Cathedral steps.
Aleksander silently berates himself as his first, hurried shot goes wide of the mark. He lopes toward the goblins, nocking yet another arrow in the process.
Red and Yellow Goblins take their torches to the the nearby buildings of the square, starting small blazes and giggling maniacally.
Viviana, you're on the clock. Dolgrin and Beagan can also post for Round 1.

Dolgrin Hammerfist |

Wow, I'm pretty far back, lol

Dolgrin again moves towards the foul little creatures and tosses the javelin he had retrieved earlier.

Goblin Pyros - round 1 - continued
Viviana steps towards the goblin and lashes out at it with her glaive, but the goblin nimbly avoids the strike. He is not so lucky withe the javelin throw from Dolgrin which strikes him in the mid-section and drives most of the way through it. The target crumples in a gory heap.
The gnome sorcerer runs towards the melee, releasing another wintry blast from his fingers. The spell strikes Red Goblin full on, and the creature shakes his head, turning from the fire setting and growling menacingly at the gnome.
End of Round 1

As the flaming tent collapses in a shower of sparks and smaller fires are set across the courtyard, the goblin chanting reaches a crescendo.
"Chase the baby, catch the pup.
Bonk the head to shut it up.
Bones be cracked, flesh be stewed,
We be goblins! You be food!"
The goblin chanter begins pointing out the resisting targets to her minions and they leave their vandalism, turning to attack.
White Goblin steps around the burning tent and swings his burning torch at the first person it sees, Gudada but the flaming brand sails past the Varisian's head.
Purple Goblin advances, cracking bullwhip in hand, she continues her chanting song and readies her whip if any targets approach in range.
White Torch: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
OK, Gudada, Alek, and Viviana are up.

Gudada Purrun |

'Dada looks down at the goblin which just tried to kneecap him with a torch, and tries to hit it over the head with his sap. As he brings his right arm down and around, across the goblin's head, he increases the momentum and spins into a tumbling roll around the creature, easily getting past it and one step closer to the rest.

DM DoctorEvil |

Goblin Pyros - Round 2 - continued
Gudada smashes the goblin on the head with his sap, bruising him and causing the brute to stand in stunned silence as the Varisian acrobatically tumbles past the goblin, taking a position on the other side, just as the priestess Viviana swirls around the other direction, confusing the goblin further. Her glaive cuts through the disoriented goblin's armor giving it a grievous, but not mortal, wound.
Viv, since your using a reach weapon, the attack cannot come from adjacent space (nor can the threat for flanking bonus). If you try to attack from a prior non-adjacent square, then it ends your move action there, but you could get the flanking bonus (at least by my eyes the flanking line runs thru a corner...) I'll assume that's what you want to do (unless you tell me otherwise).
That goblin absorbed 10 hp damage this round, but sap is non-lethal so the effects don't stack, at least as I understand it.
Aleksander, the former soldier, continues his running fusillade against the goblins, but again his shot misses wide of the mark.
Following the directions of their chanting leader, Red and Yellow Goblins fan out to attack the resisting heroes; both swing their torches threateningly at the party. Yellow's attack is dodged by the ranger, but Red's flaming stick connects with the tumbling Gudada, dealing him a scalding wound to the upper arm.
Yellow Torch: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
Red Torch: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15

Gudada Purrun |

The adjacent space thing was my fault. I saw her post and went back and moved my icon, and then adjusted hers so that she would be adjacent. She left her character at reach distance. I tried to be helpful and make the map match the statements. MY FAULT.
3 points of damage. Got it.

Dolgrin Hammerfist |

Dolrgin curses upon seeing one of the people he had just met get struck by a goblin's torch. He moves up to it and lashes out with a fist on arrival but misses in his haste.

White Goblin makes a 5 ft step backwards lining up with his cousin. He drops his torch and draws out his ugly goblin knife, making a slice at Gudada as he goes by. Then Purple Goblin cracks her whip and flicks it at Gudada's feet trying to trip him up, but the Varisian defly avoids both attacks.

Gudada Purrun |

"Aauugh! Stupid little . . .." As 'Dada starts to lash out, his time working to help protect the caravan reasserts itself, and he maintains his focus on the already injured opponent. As he swings, he again increases the momentum and throws himself in to a tumble roll to get to the goblin chanting in the back.

As I remember the rules . . .. When the total nonlethal damage received equals or exceeds the number of hit points a creature has, the creature passes out unconscious until the nonlethal damage heals itself to be be less than their remaining hit points. If you choose to drop White as a result of that, then I will happily have 'Dada hit Red with the above instead. Very happily.
I just looked the rule up in the PRD. When the amount of nonlethal damage taken equals the creature's current hit points, they are staggered. When the amount of nonlethal damage taken exceeds the creature's current hit points, it is unconscious. So, I was close, but not RIGHT.

Viviana moves forward and attacks the goblins with expressive, almost dance like assault.

Viviana I'm guessing you'll want to do your turn over again. Go ahead, I'll let you keep the die roll for next attack if you choose. Sorry about mis-leading you all about non-lethal but I think I have it right now, see Discussion tab. Maybe I'll just outlaw saps from now on...

You're right! It does look formatted wrong. My apologies for not noticing.
Holy mother of God!

HOLY COW! Uh, and I had also missed the bit about non-lethal overflowing back into lethal.
Sorry about mis-leading you all about non-lethal but I think I have it right now, see Discussion tab. Maybe I'll just outlaw saps from now on...
If you know somebody who ALWAYS get EVERY aspect of the rules system right, well, I don't WANT to meet them. The odds are pretty good that their social skills are grossly atrophied!
You think saps are bad? In a setting where the use of lethal force was a VERY heavily punished crime, I knew a guy who went out of his way to get Saps of Wounding made, under WotC's 3.x rules, where each hit did a point of Constitution damage. "But saps aren't lethal force!" Yes, he was a two-weapon fighter.
