Dren could have gone down that path but he took an instant dislike to the little cretin...plus his interaction thus far in his life has been limited to the base races and some summoned extra-planar creatures. He didn't get the vibe of this creature.

I started working on getting him on our side, then Edmin tried to intimidate him and that was the end of that attempt. I even converted a great Rush song into a redcap and treant battle song.

No, you were totally in character. Unfortunately it was one of those times where several of us posted in between DMDM posts with the result being a redcap who was pretty sure that someone from Liverpool just insulted the Red Devils.

(Rangers just does not feel right being a "red"cap. Must really be a ManU or Liverpool fan.)

The sky has cleared, and faint beams of moonlight filter through the trees, providing a dimmish sort of light. The forest is far from silent: there's the rushing of wind, the creaking of the trees, faint animal cries from time to time, occasionally a sudden rustling in the underbrush as some small creature scurries away.

And then there's a faint "thud" from behind you.

Grumblejack lies prone on the trail several yards behind you. He seems to be deeply asleep, with the hint of a smile on his ugly face. As you watch, he begins to snore softly.

A voice speaks out of the shadows. "You have keen eyes, to walk through the Bryr by moonlight. Can you see what is unseen, then? Do you see my brother's knife at your companion's throat?" It's a female voice, and speaking common Talirean, though with something odd in the consonants.

(You don't see anyone near Grumblejack.)

Seeing Ulp digging in his pouch, I would say that is entirely fair. We have, after all, intruded on YOUR domain. My friend Ulp will pay you. Yes, the being you have captured is my protector of sorts, we keep his true size hidden so creatures underestimate him.
You seem to be very reasonable folk...perhaps we can make a bargain on top of your compensation?
Safe passage if we decide to come back and maybe...some information for this shiny red stone about some things other than anything that would endanger yourselves?

Dren roots out a nice 100gp gemstone he has in his possession...its not big but it is red and shiny. He holds it out for the creatures to see.

No danger for you, just safety for us. I also offer you whatever healing I have...if you need it if we are in your domain. What do you say?

The few of your that have known Dren for this many months are not sure what he is about...you have never seen him like this before.

Dren is keeping most of his remaining wealth in gems since he couldn't carry gold with his low STR.
