The Once and Future Kingmaker Battle Maps, Kingmaker: Svetlana's Tale Battle Maps

No problem. I'm putting up the GM Recruitment thread now. Hopefully there's someone out there...

EDIT: A LINK for all of you! Please chime in and let potential GMs know you're interested.

Male N Half Elf ("Andoren") Urban Ranger 5 ***INACTIVE*** |HP: 34/44| AC: 16 (13 Tch, 13 Fl, +2 vs. undead) | CMB: +7, CMD: 20 | F: +6, R: +7, W: +3 | Init: +5 base | Perc: +15 base, SM: +2 base |Speed 30 ft | No dailies | Spells: 1st 2/2 | Active conditions: None.

My condolences as well. Thanks for putting up the recruitment thread; I won't have much time to post on it, as I'm at a con this weekend.

Hey guys! John asked around for a GM. Offered my services. :D I hope you will have me.

The Once and Future Kingmaker Battle Maps, Kingmaker: Svetlana's Tale Battle Maps

Glad to see someone's interested. As I said, it's a great bunch of people.

Good luck, guys.

@GM Aest: Is there a way to transfer the campaign over to me?

@Rest of You: Can I get a little bit of information from each of you about your characters? 1) One big end-game goal; 2) An item of your own design that your character has been thinking about in their head; 3) The character's drink of choice; 4) What would it take for your character to quit the adventuring game?

Hopefully, this will help me better understand your characters as I read through the previous posts!

Yeah.

If you are the GM for a play-by-post campaign but didn't start the thread, please email community@paizo.com.

We need:

A link to your profile page (click on your name at the top where it says "Welcome, your name!"
A link to the gameplay and discussion threads for the campaigns you have inherited.
Just copy and paste these links from the address bar in your browser, please.

Basically, just shoot them an email and they'll take care of it. I can't do it myself. When I took this game over, it took about a day to get control, iirc.

Peredur is by training and inclination a hunter of undead, though mostly in city environments.

Re 1), at this point he's proximately motivated by revenge--members of the Whispering Way killed his mentor and friend, Professor Lorrimor, and he wants them to pay for that crime.

Re 2), facing noncorporeal undead has been a problem for the group, so an item of ghostbane dirge (or some other way to extend ghost touch to the party) would be nice. Now that I think about it a little more, Peredur has the hunter's bond variety that gives the party some of his favored enemy bonuses. It would be cool to have a way to give the party some item bonuses as well.

Re 3), whiskey. Neat. He's not much into nursing drinks, and even if he tosses back a shot and doesn't drink anything for a while, he has no particular need to have something in his hand at a party.

Re 4), finalizing the people who killed Lorrimor. Once that's done, he plans to go back to Andoran. Though this apparent side trip to deal with the Beast has been interesting, from a theological point of view....

Male N Human (mixed Varisian and Kellid) Dirge Bard 11 | HP: 107/90| AC: 18 (11 Tch, 17 Fl) | CMB: +8, CMD: 20 | F: +13, R: +12, W: +14 | Init: +10 | Perc: +14, SM: +8 | Speed 30ft | Bardic Performance Rounds: 30/30 | Spells: 1st: 7/7; 2nd: 5/6; 3rd: 4/5; 4th: 2/3| Active conditions: none.

Sour Heck’s longest term goal is to see one of these heroes in the Hawthorn society crack the skull of the Whispering Way member who murdered Professor Lorrimor. Personal satisfaction aside, he figures he’ll drink for free on that story for years. Other than that, he has a Varisian willingness to seek his fortune wherever his feet take him.

I like the idea of an item that makes giving up a hand to hold a banner (c.f. the Flagbearer feat) a little less dire. For example, perhaps a sufficiently long metamagic rod could serve as a flagpole, or a magic staff that fits thematically with Heck’s percussion performance--the wielder could bang its iron-shod heel on the ground rhythmically to unleash a Thundering Drums or whatever other sonic spell the staff offers. Or perhaps Heck could simply get a magic longspear, if one can be used as a weapon and a flagpole at the same time.

Heck’s favorite drink is free booze. Never turning up his nose at whatever rotgut is on offer is what he would consider professional ethics. When offered a choice, he tends to pick whatever he hasn’t tried before.

Sour Heck sees peace and security as fleeting illusions. If he ever came to believe there was a way he could live in comfort and safety, he’d be tempted to give up his adventures. His cynicism makes him pretty unlikely to believe such an idyllic life could last, however.

1) Eloise's big goal is to not be a typical Chelaxian; she will not compromise with evil, she will not step on the innocent and the defenceless for her own benefit; she will not look away when others are in danger; she will shine!

2) Eloise really has the item she wants: her black blade. In time, she wants to take the Craft magic arms & armour feat and add to its constant abilities.

3) Red wine and beer, preferably light beer.

4) Finding someone to settle down with and motherhood would probably take her out of the game. At least until the kids went their own way... and she would probably teach the little whippersnappers everything she learned. ;)

Sorry for the delay in replying, I've been working weird hours (retail):

1) One big end-game goal: Much like the rest, Iesha currently wants to find and punish the person (or persons) responsible for Professor Lorrimar's death.
2) An item of your own design that your character has been thinking about in their head: hm...let me get back to you on that...
3) The character's drink of choice: wine; probably Sangria - though the player behind her loves strawberry daiquiris ;)
4) What would it take for your character to quit the adventuring game?: Iesha would love to become a priestess of her own temple.

Gad, we're a vengeful bunch.

I am almost ready to start. I have updated myself with this section of the book and copied over the current map. The transfer of ownership of the thread should be soon. Does anyone know is Pellious is still interested? I sent him a PM, but maybe he talked to one of you?

EDIT: Checked the posting history of all his aliases and it seems that he was really only in two games and stopped posting in both around late May. Since he has been gone for so long, I am going to assume that he is out. If he contacts me about wanting to stay on, then I will ask you guys if it is ok. If any of you don't want him to play (as in only one person needs to say no), then I will tell him politely that the game has moved on without him. If you don't wish to publicly do so, then a simple PM to me will be sufficient and no names will be mentioned.

DOUBLE EDIT: Forgot to post about myself and my expectations for the game! Total idiot over here!

First, I love the explanations and motivations of the characters. Will give me something to work with in the RP aspect of the game.

Second, I am not overly harsh if you miss a day on posting, but if it becomes a regular occurrence where you are down to posting once or twice a week, then I will message you to have a talk.

Third, I will guarantee posts six out of seven days in a week. Most likely, Saturdays or Sundays might be skipped due to travelling and family time and such. I would like the same from you guys in order to keep the game moving along.

Fourth, in the event of an absence, notice is always better than nothing! A quick little blurb that life has overwhelmed you or that you just had a baby helps immensely. On that note, if you are going on a drinking binge or just had a kid (aka life takes you away from a computer for a while), take care of life!

Fifth, if you AFK without notice, I reserve the right to just say that your character delays. Most likely, this means that you will miss a turn as I usually run multiple bad guys under a single initiative (averaging their Inits, usually). If you give notice or the party is in dire straits, then I will always bot your character.

Sixth, and I have trouble with this sometimes as well, please try to post more than simple one-liners, even in combat.

Bad: GM BS tries to hit the goblin with his sword. [insert dice rolls]

Good: GM BS yells to his party members, "I got this one over here!" as he tries to lop off the head of the red goblin menacing him with his horsechopper.

Great: GM BS looks to his left and sees Peredur and Iesha struggling to hold the door against the waves of goblins pressing against it. He brandishes his greatsword in both hands and reassures his party that he is about to take care of the lone holdout in their room. "I got this one over here!" He swings his sword with all of his might, hoping to end the green menace and avoid any possible tetanus from the rusty horsechopper that the creature holds as it drips with blood.

Seventh, I reserve the right to change the Core Rules when I see fit. This isn't to say that I will change the game on a whim, but if the party needs a resurrection or is looking to do something grandiose, then I might require special reagents above and beyond things like diamond dust. This will always be in the interest of fun and story. Also, sometimes disease and curses just can't be cured by only casting a spell.

Eighth, I hope that I haven't scared you off, but the most important rule is: Have fun! If you aren't having fun, tell me! It's no fun for either of us if you sit through months of agony and then send me a 500 word rant about how I'm a terrible GM. (True story.) If you aren't having fun, let me know. I will try to fix it.

Thoughts, questions or concerns?

Also, and this is a requirement, I need you all to alter your taglines in order to make the game run easier for me. I notice that Peredur doesn't have AC in his tagline and that Iesha doesn't have any information in hers.

Please set up your taglines as such to make combats super easy for me!

Everything is looking great guys and here we go!

@Iesha: I don't know what you mean exactly, but if you mean that you don't pick a spell immediately, but later meditate to to fill the spell slot, then yes. That is fine. Also, the Spells section of the tagline is not to show your maximum spells able to cast in a day but how many you have consumed. You can delete the 0th one and just pair down to "1st 5/5; 2nd 4/4; 3rd 3/3".

We may need to talk tactics as players rather than as characters on this combat, since it looks like our party is in a pickle.

I think Eloise is in huge danger and needs to take a withdraw action directly away from our foe, and Peredur needs to get between them. Iesha’s got some solid buff spells that can beef up Peredur, including Barkskin and Bull’s Strength and Prayer; channeling also sounds like a great idea. If she can take a step back, Sour Heck can move up to where he can use his wand on Eloise or his spear on our enemy.

Any better suggestions?

And I have a potentially stupid question about darkness: by RAW, it lowers the light level in its area of effect one step, so unless the area we're in would normally be in dim light, it wouldn't be completely dark. I know there's been a lot of spirited discussion on the boards over this point, and I don't know what the current prevailing opinion is.

You are correct. It only lowers the darkness level in the room by one step, however the creature you are fighting has no need for light, thus there is no lighting in these windowless rooms save for the crane entrance, making most of the area of the spell Darkness. I will adjust for 10' of light from the small crane entrance. Any overlapping area is dim light.

Does my character need to be able to see our foe to target it with Hideous Laughter?

Yes.

Per the SRD, "Some spells have a target or targets. You cast these spells on creatures or objects, as defined by the spell itself. You must be able to see or touch the target, and you must specifically choose that target. You do not have to select your target until you finish casting the spell."

Male N Human (mixed Varisian and Kellid) Dirge Bard 11 | HP: 107/90| AC: 18 (11 Tch, 17 Fl) | CMB: +8, CMD: 20 | F: +13, R: +12, W: +14 | Init: +10 | Perc: +14, SM: +8 | Speed 30ft | Bardic Performance Rounds: 30/30 | Spells: 1st: 7/7; 2nd: 5/6; 3rd: 4/5; 4th: 2/3| Active conditions: none.

Does that imply that if I could touch the target, that is if it's in arm's reach, I could hit it with Hideous Laughter even if I can't see it?

Only if it is a touch spell, I believe.

I think tactics might be a good choice here... It appears that his poison is gone and the only thing keeping you from killing him is the Darkness. Maybe there is a way to offset his advantage that doesn't include following him into a one-on-one hallway scenario?

Just my thoughts on the problem.

Getting back to the darkness questions, if we had mundane light sources would that help our position any? The description of a torch says it sheds normal light in a 20' radius, and raises the light level one step for an additional 20'.

The answer to this question is in the Darkness spell. "Nonmagical sources of light, such as torches and lanterns, do not increase the light level in an area of darkness. Magical light sources only increase the light level in an area if they are of a higher spell level than darkness."

This is why the Light spell did nothing.

Iesha, how long does it take you to prepare a spell in one of your empty slots?

"A divine spellcaster selects and prepares spells ahead of time through prayer and meditation at a particular time of day. The time required to prepare spells is the same as it is for a wizard (1 hour), as is the requirement for a relatively peaceful environment. When preparing spells for the day, a divine spellcaster can leave some of her spell slots open. Later during that day, she can repeat the preparation process as often as she likes. During these extra sessions of preparation, she can fill these unused spell slots. She cannot, however, abandon a previously prepared spell to replace it with another one or fill a slot that is empty because she has cast a spell in the meantime. Like the first session of the day, this preparation takes at least 15 minutes, and it takes longer if she prepares more than one-quarter of his spells."

15 minutes minimum.

8-hr workday Wed & last summer trip to Cedar Point today.

Tomorrow is hubby's birthday (and I'm working!) and Saturday is job in morning, wedding shower for my niece afternoon.

I never thought I'd be complaining about the pace of this game!

No worries! Thanks for the update on being away!

After GM Aest's RL difficulties, and GM Storycrafter's lengthy absences, your pace is taking a little bit of getting used to...at least the communication piece of it. I definitely prefer the faster pace, though.

Incidentally, I may be intermittent this weekend--my wife and I are going to be out of town for the holiday, although we'll be spending some of the time at a place with decent internet connectivity.

No worries! If you notice, I haven't tried to be overly harsh or pushy. If you have any suggestions, then by all means, let me know! :D

Two people are AFK for the weekend. Let's resume on Monday with full force!

Actual Monday, or effective Monday? I was traveling most of the day today--driving from central Wisconsin to Indianapolis, then back to Chicagoland.
