If you're comfortable with it, in the short term would you DMPC Talia? At least until we're back in town. If the player hasn't come back by then, let's try to find a replacement. Make it someone with a connection to one of the PCs in their background.

And your multiyear plan to get into a CC campaign finally comes to fruition! Color me impressed. ;-)
Instead of replacing Talia, could we simply add Corvus’s character, and leave the door open for Talia to return whenever the player gets back? That might be never, but considering that the game’s been quiet for months, I think we should give everyone a good chance to see that it’s started up again--particualrly since this is holiday season.
YEah, that's fine with me. I don't want to just count Talia out, so we'll leave a spot open for her and let Corvus in. That'd give us six if she comes back, which is manageable.

I am open to ideas for what you'd all like me to play. If we're going to have a character linked into someone's background i would be fine with that. it could be intersting to have someone not bound to the late Professor, and rather to a party member.
any classes you feel would be particularly helpful? or redundant? I've a bit of a hankering to play a druid, or maybe a sorcerer

Since you’ve read the adventure path, you probably have a much better idea of what would be helpful than I would!
Make an interesting character that fits our circumstances and I won’t care what class it is. Though if you make a sorcerer and Talia comes back, we’ll be an arcane convention, which I hope would not discourage Talia from coming back.
I would say "play what you'd like". The party COULD use a full arcane caster, but I'd rather players play something they'll enjoy.
It'd be good to have some arcane backup, it's true... I do what I can, but my spell list is rather... specialized. ^^;
i will come up with a couple ideas over the next few days and put them together, and see what everyone thinks.
Should anyone’s character fail a skill roll by a few points, you can tell me in this forum if you want Heck to use his Gallant Inspiration spell to try to turn it into a success retroactively. He can only do it a few times a day, but some rolls are too important to blow, right?

I have three character concepts I'm working on developing. attempting to meet the standard for the PC's in this group is daunting.
Anyway:
Half Orc Paladin, (redeemer archetype). Not sure which deity yet. He is in Lepidstadt because he believes that the beast can be redeemed, and hopes to do so. Has had past encounters with the late Lorrimor. Kind of a dope, but a straight-forward guy who sees the good in everyone and everything. which is naturally problematic.
Varisian Tattoo Sorcerer, Destined blodline. this guy could tie into one of the PC's maybe. I am considering giving him a level or two of rogue to fit his background, but i think that could diminish his effectiveness and would be stepping on the bard's toes.
A desna-worshipping Varisian, he's put a lot of miles under his feet and a lot of trouble behind him. I am having trouble reconciling the idea of this guy being a spell-blaster type currently, so I am considering a re-work into either an Ustalavian noble born generalist wizard, or a more classic nuker-style sorcerer.

I'm sorry to do this to you since we've just gotten started again, but I'll be away from my usual computer (including my PDFs), and will be unable to run this game for the next week or two. This absence will last from later today until either the 29th or the 2nd, depending on when I return from Christmas vacation. I hadn't thought about what missing the books would mean for my ability to run the game. I'll see you all on the 29th or 2nd. It's been crazy cold here in Chicago; CPS was closed these last few days, so I was watching my daughter at home. I'll have more time to post now that the schools are running again.

If you do not have a CO detector in your home, drop everything and go by one NOW! I'll wait...OK, back?
Sunday (fortunately, as it turned out) two of or RotRL players called off, so we were in our 2nd floor computer room, playing a back-up game. I was getting over a bout of that nasty flu going around, and was still a bit stuffed. My daughter kept saying she smelled something odd, but I couldn't smell anything til much later. When I did finally start smelling it around 3, I checked the basement to see if the furnace was off...it wasn't, so I didn't think much of it. Around 5, though the CO monitor went off - at the get out or die level. We popped all the windows and doors, grabbed the cat and her carrier and did so. The monitor showed over 80ppm. Hubby cut the furnace off and called the installers. After first trying to blame the hot water heater, they checked the furnace and the flue was completely blocked with soot. We spend Sunday night without heat (after the fumes cleared out of the house) then Monday was spent calling the installer regularly until their BEST tech showed up with a crew at 3PM and installed an 'expeller' to vent the flue outside, since the trouble seemed to be always based around our 100 year old chimney.
We're alive, we have heat, we have no further CO build-up, and -hopefully- I'm back to regular posting.

Yikes! Glad to hear no one was hurt, and glad to have you back.
I don't have a furnace. The closest to it is the water heater, and I always turn that off before I leave the house or go to sleep. But I thank you for the good advice, Iesha, and I am also very glad you guys got out alright.
