Really? That's interesting, I just thought it was undead. In Pathfinder undead are susceptible to sneak attacks, and therefore being assassinated. Is there something about the creature that's I'm missing? I have a couple knowledges I could roll.
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
AIUI, undead are susceptible to sneak attack damage, but not to (among other things) an assassin's death attack. See the list of undead creature traits for this one:
Immunity to any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects or is harmless).
Since the death effect doesn't do anything special to objects, I interpret that trait as indicating that undead aren't susceptible to it. OTOH, my cursory search through Rules Questions came up empty wrt previous discussion.

Round 7 (ongoing):
Initiative order
Drovic-acted
Conner-acted
Grungar-acted
Ogres-
Besmarial-
Troll-
Dashel-
DMPCing Grungar for the moment. The dwarf closes with the second ogre zombie in the mist. He lands a solid chop with his falchion, cleaving into the creature. Its return blow almost lays him out again, though.
The other ogre and the troll advance on Dashel, but are unable to attack him this round. Remember that the green is Difficult terrain.
Dashel is up!
Ogre #1: -25 HP
Ogre #2: -23 HP
Troll: -5 HP
Falchion damage, incl. STR penalty: 2d4 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (2, 2) + 11 - 2 = 13
Slam attack on Grungar: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Slam damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Dashel de Penderwon |
RD 7: Dashel
The cleric understanding the situation releases a second wave of positive energy to harm the undead.
"Oh blessed sun Goddess shed your everliving light upon these soiled creatures!
damage: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 2) = 12
DC 16 for half damage
2 channels remaining for the day.
He will then proceed to move to M 12, staying out of the reach of the larger opponents forcing them to use their action to move and not strike.
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
In response to Dashel's prayer, holy power again sears into the zombies. Both ogres fall, put to rest by the cleric. The troll manages to resist the worst of it, though.
Round 8:
Initiative order
Drovic-
Conner-
Grungar-
Besmarial-
Troll-
Dashel-
Drovic, Conner, and Grungar are up!
O#2 Will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Troll Will save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Drovic Syrendross |
Drovic mutters a curse to himself. Can't slit the throat of something that doesn't breath or pump blood. Still uses it's eyes to see though... Drovic takes out a sparkling pouch of sand, whipping it at the troll and making it explode outwards in a brilliant display with a shouted word.
Glitterdust. DC 15 will save.
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
It could be worse--in my KM PbP game, I had an oracle roll three consecutive ones on CLW spells during the fight with the Stag Lord. That was followed by the paladin rolling a 1 on her last LoH of the day. I think they're sweating a bit, though it helps that they've got the Stag Lord backed into a corner where he can't use archery without eating a pair of AoOs.

Round 8:
Initiative order
Drovic-acted
Conner-acted
Grungar-acted
Besmarial-acted
Troll-acted
Dashel-
Badly wounded, Grungar retreats into the mist. The troll shambles towards Dashel, but is slowed enough by the undergrowth that it's unable to reach him and attack.
Dashel is up!
Dashel de Penderwon |
RD 8: Dashel
Radiating the power of his goddess the holy man releases another powerful channeling wave.
damage, DC 16 Will: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 4) = 13
Then he moves back out of the troll immediate reach. Hit and move, hit and move.
1 channel remaining for the day.
Conner Hawthorne |
Round 8, Bless, Favored Target
Conner fires two arrows at the Troll, from a position of hiding.
LB Att 1: 1d20 + 12 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 12 + 2 + 1 = 23
LB Dam 1: 1d8 + 4 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 + (6, 6) = 20
LB Att 2: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 2 + 1 = 21
LB Dam 2: 1d8 + 4 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 + (4, 3) = 15
Drovic Syrendross |
Drovic quickly makes his way over to Grungar. "Heal his wounds. I will deal with the poison the best I can." He pours his last antitoxin down Grungar's throat, then tries to identify what the poison is that's effecting him and sees if he can do anything else.
Dashel de Penderwon |
Dashel instructs, "We need to burn these creatures NOW. I've one channel healing remaining...but we must get the fire going."
healing: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4) = 10
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Besmarial turns back and forth. "If the bodies are not regenerating, perhaps you should leave them as they are. When the delegation from the village arrives, they may serve as proof of your ability to deal with the unexpected dangers of the forest."
ETA: Drovic, the poison on the quills is odd. From firsthand experience you know it's a potent hemolytic agent, and incidentally induces some minor amount of tissue necrosis in the vicinity of the point of contact. However, there is a magical component to it as well, of a school you know you didn't study.
Dashel de Penderwon |
Dashel examines the bodies and noting they are not regenerating, "That is fantastic idea." He looks to Conner, "Perhaps I should bring that farmer here to view this sacrilege himself."
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
You may also want to think back to the other zombies you fought in the past few days.
Dashel de Penderwon |
I believe Drovik is busy with exams.
"Let's stay vigilant this evening and rest up after the we have the enemy placed together."
dashel touch folks with the cure wand.
Grungar
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
conner
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
I'm not sure how much people need. Rest will give everyone some HP back, but if more is need Dashel would converted a 2nd level spell or two.
cmw: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (8, 4) + 3 = 15
cmw: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (1, 4) + 3 = 8
he would use the lesser restoration wand and take time to cure the con and str damage, including his own.
dashel: 1d4 ⇒ 4
grungar: 1d4 ⇒ 1
grungar, id needed: 1d4 ⇒ 4
I marked off 6 CLW from the wand resources and 3 LR from that wand. Tell me if more is needed.
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
The rest of the night passes uneventfully. Grungar grumbles a bit about missing the hag, still convinced that she's somehow involved in all this.
If you search the pukwudgie's body, you'll find that it was carrying a couple of flasks of liquid in belt pouches; both of the flasks detect as magic.
