Dashel de Penderwon |
RD 4: Dashel
Dashel will drink the antitoxin.
fort save, assuming I need another save: 1d20 + 8 + 1 - 1 - 1 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 8 + 1 - 1 - 1 + 5 = 25
Then he will pull out another one to get ready to give to Grungar.
I need to keep myself alive to help other's stay alive.
Drovic Syrendross |
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 Darn, almost.
Drovic doesn't break line of sight with the creature, putting his hands and feet on the tree and climbing.
Climb: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Standard action to study, move action to climb the tree. I think a tree is DC 15 to climb at half speed if I remember, but don't quote me on that.
3 rounds done. *Cracks knuckles*
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Grungar, you also need to make another Fort save vs. poison or take one more point of CON damage. Dashel, you don't take any CON damage this round, but as a trained healer you're pretty sure the poison is still active.
Round 4 (ongoing):
Initiative order
Threat-acted/Drovic-acted
Conner-acted
Grungar-
Ogres-
Besmarial-
Troll-
Dashel-acted
Grungar, you can take an action this round since Dashel got you moving last round.
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
And I'm not sure how you get down to only a +1 Fort save when you're down 4 CON; I make it +6, +2 racial makes it +8. As follows: your pre-poison Fort save vs. poison is +10 (+5 for L6 fighter, +3 for 16 CON, +2 racial bonus). You're down 4 CON for a -2 penalty, +10 -2 = +8.
With the antitoxin and prayer and a roll of 12, you get 12 + 8 + 1 + 5 = 26, and you save this round.
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Round 4 (final):
As Drovic climbs the tree, the troll shambles by beneath him, swinging a massive arm through the space he just vacated.
The ogres come out of the mist on the other side, having been far enough from any party member that they couldn't see you.
Round 5:
Initiative order
Threat-acted/Drovic-
Conner-
Grungar-
Ogres-
Besmarial-
Troll-
Dashel-
The pukwudgie shrieks out more orders in Infernal, and the ogres begin to turn back around for another pass.
Drovic, strictly speaking you act before it does. Make your move.
Drovic Syrendross |
Drovic, understanding how the creature moved and functions, draws forth his blade Aconite. He stares intently at the pugwudgie's neck, then appears right behind the creature. "Die." And plunges the blade towards his neck.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1d6d1d4 + 2 + 2d8 ⇒ (3) + 8 + (1, 4, 1) + 2 + (1, 1) = 21
Drovic Syrendross |
Oh wow lol. Must have missed a bracket.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 1 = 17
Damage: 1d4 + 2 + 2d8 ⇒ (1) + 2 + (2, 1) = 6
Man, them rolls. Hopefully I can hit his flat footed with that. DC 14 fort save or die.
Edit: If he doesn't die I'll use my remaining move action to apply a dose of deathblade to my dagger.
Conner Hawthorne |
Round 5, Prayer
Conner reaches down slowly and activates the Bronze Dagger of Erastil with the command word.
Slay.
Conner then carefully studies the Troll as his second target.
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
There's also a +2 for striking against an unaware foe (or that's how I apply the bonus for attacking a blinded opponent). In any case, its flatfooted AC is 15.
Drovic carefully lines up his attack, going for a throbbing pulse on the horrid little creature's neck. He steels himself for what's certain to be a painful experience stabbing the prickly pukwudgie. With a quick thrust and twist, he lays open the blood vessel. (Taking 2 HP in the process, and also needing to make a DC 18 Fort save vs. poison or take 3 points CON damage.) The pukwudgie gasps in shock and surprise, turning to face Drovic as it rapidly exsanguinates. Its face distorted in a mask of hatred and anger, it grabs at a quill, obviously intending to stab the elf, but before it can act awareness leaves its eyes and it falls lifeless from the tree.
Round 5 (ongoing):

Dashel-
Grungar, you're up! Both you and Dashel, another Fort save, please.
Poison CON damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3
(I rolled the save above, anticipating the need. Good thing you hit!
Dashel de Penderwon |
RD 5
fort save: 1d20 + 1d20 + 8 + 1 - 1 - 1 + 5 ⇒ (4) + (7) + 8 + 1 - 1 - 1 + 5 = 23
Excellent two in a row!
"Friend I dont' have time to cast the lengthy restorative prayer on you. There are others in need."
Grungar should be up enough to take potions of healing.
With that he will cast Bless to help his allies.
Can he see any enemies? If he does he would have cast searing light.
He reaches for his sack of marbles.
Drovic Syrendross |
Fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 Lol.
I will be very busy the next couple of days, so here is my next round action.
~Next Round~
So that's what that feels like. Drovic seethes as the poison takes hold. He quickly takes out one of his emergency vials of antitoxin, downing it.
Move action to retrieve vial, standard action to drink. For the next hour I have a +5 to fortitude saves against poison. If you're going to travel with a dozen of them in your pocket you better have a way to neutralize them.
Conner Hawthorne |
Ok, I would study as a target any visible enemy. I need to spot something, or the activation of the dagger is wasted unless I attack on my next turn. If there are none visible, then I would use my move action to move closer to their last known position to find one.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 1 = 13
Drovic Syrendross |
No problem. I need a clearer way to do maps.
I reccomend dungeongrid for flashiness and google docs for creativity.
Dashel de Penderwon |
I'm a big fan of maptools. it's easy to import prefab docs into the program (the attached is from Rappan Athuk), you can add items, your can user create original maps and/or import maps from other people.
Here's a more detailed encounter map
dungeongrid is cool and lets the players interact by moving their characters.
Dashel de Penderwon |
Grungar how are you with your HP? Looks like the PC's have taken their actions for RD 5.
DM I believe you flipped Dashel and Drovic's characters on the map. I should be near Grungar.
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Oops, thanks for catching that, Dashel. Fixed now.
Round 5 (final):
The ogres spot Conner as he clears the mist and close with him, both charging (as much as they can) so they can attack. Both of them hit. Take 29 HP, Conner.
Besmarial moves up and out of the way.
The troll emerges on the other side of the mist and appears to notice Conner, but can't move at the moment.
Round 6:
Initiative order
Threat-dead/Drovic-
Conner-
Grungar-
Ogres-
Besmarial-
Troll-
Dashel-
Drovic is up, but first a DC 18 Fort save or take another 3 CON damage.
Ogre slam #2: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 9 + 2 = 26
Ogre slam damage #1: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Ogre slam damage #2: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
CON damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Conner Hawthorne |
Round 6, Prayer, Sneak Attack, Erastil's Dagger
Conner attacks the Ogre nearest to Bes with an insightful attack due to the use of the Dagger.
LB Att 1: 1d20 + 12 + 2 + 1 - 2 + 20 ⇒ (6) + 12 + 2 + 1 - 2 + 20 = 39
LB Dam 1: 1d8 + 4 + 2 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 2 + 1 + (6, 5) = 25
LB Att 2: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 11
LB Dam 2: 1d8 + 4 + 2 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 + 1 + (2, 4) = 14
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Conner takes a short step back and fires a pair of arrows at the ogre. The first one easily hits and penetrates deeply into the creature's body, but does not appear to do as much damage as the slayer would have expected. The wound does not bleed, and the ogre shows no signs of pain. The second arrow hits but glances off of the ogre.
Over to you, Grungar! You can hear the sounds of fighting through the mist.
Dashel de Penderwon |
Remember bless is active at the end of RD 5. Dashel's last in the initiative order and cast prayer at the end of RD 1, so we should have one more round remaining after the current round.
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Round 6 (ongoing):

Conner-acted
Grungar-acted
Ogres-acted
Besmarial-acted

Dashel-
DMPCing Grungar for the moment. Grungar moves in the direction of the fight, but does not make it out of the mist due to the difficulty of the forest terrain.
Both ogres close with Conner and hit him again. Take another 27 HP, Conner. The troll also moves up, but is unable to get past the ogres and begins to go around them.
Dashel is up!
Ogre #1: -20 HP
Ogre #2:
Troll:
Ogre slam to Conner, incl. prayer penalty: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 8 - 1 = 24
Ogre slam damage, incl. prayer penalty: 1d8 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 9 - 1 = 12
Ogre slam damage, incl. prayer penalty: 1d8 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 9 - 1 = 15
Dashel de Penderwon |
RD 6: Dashel
The cleric step to L, 13 to get a view.
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
know religion: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
If he recognizes the creatures as undead he will channel the glorious energy of Iomedae to effect the undead.
channel: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 2) = 10
*DC 16 for half damage.
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Round 6 (final):
Dashel realizes that these creatures are zombies (which makes perfect sense to him, considering what he remembered of pukwudgies). Iomedae's glory bursts forth from him, searing into the undead flesh.
Ogre #1: -25 HP
Ogre #2: -10 HP
Troll: -5 HP
Round 7:
Initiative order
Drovic-
Conner-
Grungar-
Ogres-
Besmarial-
Troll-
Dashel-
Drovic, Conner, and Grungar are up before the ogres! Drovic, another save vs. poison.
Ogre #1 DC 16 Will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Ogre #2 DC 16 Will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Dashel de Penderwon |
"Conner get back into the fog and heal up, you're no good dead. Dwarf get up here!"
does Dashel recognize if these have the staggered condition or if they are fast moving for zombies? what about any DR if there is something unusual about them?
Drovic Syrendross |
Fort: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 Welp, guess I didn't need the antitoxin. Oh well, rather safe than sorry.
Drovic shrugs off the final tendrils of the poison, looking down at the new threats. Of course. He leaps down the tree, rolling to soften the fall.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Stealth: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
Seeing that the ogre's are being focused, Drovic begins stalking the troll.
Move action to drop and acrobatics to avoid falling damage (I believe I'm far enough down I can do that). Standard action to study the troll.
