| DM Carbide |
The fog is thick enough that you only have 5' visibility in it. Presumably they could be hidden by it.
Senja Kala
|
Y'all can click on Senja's profile and read his spell list - he doesn't summon stuff, and doesn't have gust of wind. Best he could do is maybe do a Knowledge check to figure out the nature of the fog, and try to dispel it, if it's amenable to that. But it's not his turn at the moment.
"Nope," Senja replies tartly.
| DM Carbide |
Asvald's spell does not reveal any invisible foes outside of the fog. The party deliberates.
Round 3:

Senja can act!
Senja Kala
|
Unable to sort out what sort of magic it was that affected Torque, Senja turns his attention to the fog. He studies it, trying to identify what sort of magic has created it, before attempting to undo it!
Spellcraft to figure out what spell has created the fog. If that check is successful, cast dispel magic to try to get rid of the fog.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
CL to Dispel: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Well, if those rolls don't do it, nothing will.
| DM Carbide |
Senja is certain that the fog is not, by itself, a magical phenomenon. You can do something else besides cast dispel magic, if you want.
Senja Kala
|
Okay, I'll drop a Fortune hex on Asvald (since I've used it on Eva and Torque already today), and he can go in and explore the fog. Or otherwise use the reroll to his liking.
| DM Carbide |
Round 3 (ongoing; rearranged):

Asvald

Senja-
The wayang bolsters Asvald.
Everyone can act!
| DM Carbide |
What does everyone want to do?
Asvald Bjornson
|
I guess we're going to have to wade into the fog and find this guy.
Asvald sheathes his sword and gives his friends a nod. "I'm going in there. Keep an eye on Torque."
The skald's broad-shouldered frame once again explodes with power and fur as he resumes his more ursine form.
Using wild shape to become a bear again. Do I pick up anything noteworthy with scent?
Senja Kala
|
Senja crosses his fingers and cackles as long as Asvald is in the room, to maintain the good fortune he has blessed his Ulfen friend with.
Move action to cackle, other action will depend on what Asvald runs into.
| DM Carbide |
I thought Eva stopped advancing at the first Will save.
Just before Eva enters the fog, her mind comes under further assault.
Two more Will saves from Eva, please.
| DM Carbide |
Before Bearvald enters the fog, give me two more Will saves.
Asvald's ursine olfactory prowess provides the skald with some further information. There is an odd tang in the air, something neither reptilian nor insectoid but partaking in some ways of both.
You can try a Knowledge (Dungeoneering) check to identify the scent, albeit with significant penalties.
Asvald Bjornson
|
Will: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Will: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Add +4 to these if the effect is sonic or mind-affecting.
| DM Carbide |
Is the +4 from well-versed? AFAICT that's not a general bonus vs. mind-affecting effects.
Asvald Bjornson
|
Is the +4 from well-versed? AFAICT that's not a general bonus vs. mind-affecting effects.
Derp, you're right. It's sonic or language-dependent.
Asvald - remember you have the Fortune hex active, so you can roll twice and take the better one one of those saves if you want.
Good point. I guess I'll use it on the first one.
Will: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
| DM Carbide |
Asvald, I suggest saving the reroll, since you made both saves and you might need it.
Eva and Asvald enter the fog.
One more Will save from both of you, please.
| DM Carbide |
Bearvald is unaffected by the fog, but Eva feels somewhat defocused. The two of them don't get far before they can see three shapes in the mists--two are floating in the air, while the third is on the ground. They are wormlike creatures with a myriad of slender legs along their sides.
Round 4 (ongoing):

Asvald

All three loose a flurry of magical darts at Bearvald as he squeezes through the door. Asvald, take 34 HP force damage.
Everyone can act! Eva and Asvald are the only ones who can see the enemies at the moment.

How much time has passed since the fight with the mummies and devils? Is good hope still up? It lasts 7 minutes.
| DM Carbide |
With the time you spent healing after the mummy fight, the spell has expired.
Eva Baldursdóttir

Knowledge (Dungeoneering): 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 2 = 12
"There are some ugly critters in here!" calls Eva to the others. "I think I... er, I'm going to attack them?"
She suits action to words, bringing her sword to bear on the nearest.

Nothing prevents Eva from striking the creature, although despite its bulk it's partially concealed by the mists--her first blow misses for that reason.

"Raaaawwrr GrrrrRRr rawr", Bearsvald adds before following with his own ursine fury.

| DM Carbide |
Asvald's claws wreak havoc on the peculiar foe, leaving it reeling. Then his jaws lay it out. It hangs limply in his grasp. (The skald fears that it will take a considerable volume of ale or mead to kill the horrible taste of the thing.)
Torque and Senja to go!
Senja Kala
|
Senja hears Asvald's jaws crunching on something, and figures the foes can't last long once that starts! Keeping up his mad laughter, Senja hurries through the fog-shrouded doorway.
Move action to cackle, move to get into room.
| DM Carbide |
Senja, give me three Will saves, please.
| DM Carbide |
Before he can reach the doorway, the wayang feels his mind assaulted by some occult power. His senses slip away, leaving only a sudden pain. Take 5 HP, Senja.
No one else can see what Senja is doing, as he's still outside the mist.
Damage: 1d8 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
| DM Carbide |
Torque moves in, seeing that one of the creatures is bleeding on the ground with multiple wounds. The healthy one he approaches lashes out at him with a shortsword held in its tail, but misses.
Round 5 (ongoing):

Senja comes back to his senses, his head still ringing from an unknown impact. Eva and Asvald, however, are unable to focus on anything except pain. Eva, take 10 HP through your DR. Asvald, take 10 HP.
Torque, Eva just punched herself in the face. In the mist, it looks like Asvald clawed himself. The creature facing the half-orc bites at him and lashes out at him with a shortsword, while the other does something that sends three missiles of force at the Lawbringer.
Torque, I believe that with the protection from evil your AC is 27. If so, take 11 HP from the shortsword and 10 points of force damage. If your current AC is 25 or less, take another 7 HP from the second shortsword blow.
Torque and Senja can act! Eva and Asvald are unable to act this round.
Asvald: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Still cackling, Senja continues his movement into the room, hoping to get a clear view of the strange creatures in the mist.
Move action to cackle, move to get closer. I'm not sure if I can see the critters in my current position, but if I can, here's a check to identify them:
Knowledge (dungeoneering): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Questions: best way to kill them? In other words, DR, resistances, etc. Also interested in special attacks.
Asvald - don't forget you have Fortune up, for those Will saves!
| DM Carbide |
Seugathi have DR 10/slashing or piercing, are immune to poison and mind-affecting effects, and have SR 17. You didn't get high enough to learn special attacks. Also, now that you're in the mist give me another Will save.
| DM Carbide |
Yes, you'll be able to target them. Note that the one in the middle is still down. Also, Eva and Asvald don't seem to be responding normally.
| DM Carbide |
Torque misses the seugathi with both attacks.
