Trianne Ashton |

Trianne moves up to get a better look, squeezing in next to Haftor as he struggles with Jarrek. She leans around the edge of the tunnel and holds up her torch, illuminating what’s inside.
“Is that a—” she says, seeing the writhing mass of goo. “Ugh, that is gray ooze!”
Her free hand first lashes out with a shard of energy, and then reaches for the wand at her belt.
Jolt Ranged Touch attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Jolt electricity damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Knowledge check was a 17: any info would always be any vulnerabilities first, followed by any resistances, followed by any special attacks. Move N, NE. Cast Jolt.

DM Carbide |

Seamus, the visible ooze is grappling Jarrek. I think your precise bombs discovery only applies to your bombs, so your acid vial would do splash damage to him. Do you still want to do that?

Round 2 (ongoing):
Initiative order
Seamus-delaying
Trianne-acted
Jarrek
Haftor-acted
Enemies
Kronug-delaying
Trianne recalls the general traits common to oozes. Immunity to mind-affecting attacks, visual attacks and effects, poison, sleep, paralysis, polymorph, precision damage, and critical hits. They also can't be flanked. Her spell does a little bit of damage to it.
Jarrek can act!
Gray oozes: AC 5 T 5 FF 5 HP taken - Red: 0 Blue: 17

Jarrek Everstand |

Jarrek lets out a string of curses in common and Orcish, grabbing back at Haftor's arm as he tries to haul himself out of the goo.
CMB check to escape grapple: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 I really hope that does it.
With the stout dwarf's solid arms and back to help him, the big half-orc manages to pull himself out of the ooze with a loud sucking noise and retreats back past the other warriors in the sewer.
He will withdraw past Haftor and Kronug. 10/39hp.

Kronug the Merciless |

With Jarrek out of the way since a 20 is an auto-success on combat maneuvers, Kronug will first wait for Seamus to throw his acid.
@Seamus, I believe alchemists' Throw Anything class feature adds their Int bonus to damage with all splash weapons, not just their bombs.
Then he will come out of delay, move up, and smash the ooze with Gorum's Thorn. He will use both Combat Expertise (as he is not worried about missing) and Power Attack.
Jarrek is still there on the map, but assuming he moves away as he says, Kronug will take his place.
Attack vs Blue, CE, PA: 1d20 + 12 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 12 - 2 - 2 = 16
Damage, PA: 2d6 + 8 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 8 + 6 = 25
His AC is 28 with Combat Expertise, and his CMD will also be 28 (21 normally, +5 vs grapple from human fighter FCB, +2 from Combat Expertise).

DM Carbide |

Jarrek tears himself free and retreats, while Seamus drops a vial of acid onto the ooze. Then Kronug advances and strikes. The acid (and how are they not immune to acid, given that they secrete it?) and Kronug's mighty blow are enough to turn the ooze into an inert puddle.
The second ooze well, oozes forward and strikes against Kronug, but narrowly misses as the fighter dodges aside.
Round 3:
Initiative order
Seamus
Trianne
Jarrek
Kronug
Haftor
Gray ooze
Everyone can act!

The Stone Fist |

After a moment of consideration, Haftor realizes that the best thing he can do at this point is not be in the way. He backs out from the melee and provides a touch of healing to Jarrek once he's clear.
Move through Seamus' square, 10' directly west, then use a Fervor to heal Jarrek for 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9

Trianne Ashton |

“Mind, another one!” Trianne alerts those who might not be able to see. She pulls a wand from her belt and sends an arc of energy piercing into the ooze.
Draw item. Magic Missile charge.
damage MM on Red: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Kronug the Merciless |

Kronug continues to attack, on his guard against the ooze's strikes.
Attack, PA, CE: 1d20 + 12 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 12 - 2 - 2 = 17
Damage, PA: 2d6 + 8 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6) + 8 + 6 = 26
He lands a powerful blow with Gorum's Thorn.
As before, AC 28 with Combat Expertise, and CMD 28 vs grapple if it hits him.

DM Carbide |

Seamus, it will survive the sword blow, but it's close enough to Kronug that he'll take a point of splash damage from the vial. I advise waiting a round; it's clear that he's having no problem dodging its attacks, and likewise having no problem hitting it.

DM Carbide |

Trianne is aware of speculation that gray oozes may not be alive as such, but instead arise spontaneously from the waste from alchemical experiments. (For some reason, most alchemists don't think much of this theory.)

Round 3 (ongoing):

Seamus cheers on the fighter, while Haftor heals some of the damage Jarrek took. Kronug cuts deeply into the ooze, and Trianne adds a bit of damage.
Jarrek?
Gray oozes: AC 5 T 5 FF 5 HP taken - Red: 29 Blue: dead

Jarrek Everstand |

Jarrek catches his breath but that doesn't stop him from urging his companions to greater heights. "We've got this, finish that thing off Kronug!"
Inspire Courage, rd 1/11

DM Carbide |

The ooze misses wildly with a lashing pseudopod.
Round 4:

Trianne
Jarrek

"DIE, VILE SLIME!"
Attack, PA, CE, IC: 1d20 + 12 - 2 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 12 - 2 - 2 + 1 = 20
Damage, PA, IC: 2d6 + 8 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 3) + 8 + 6 + 1 = 21
Kronug continues his glorious battle against the monstrous blob.
If it isn't dead, he will step back so that others can get a shot in.

DM Carbide |

Kronug's blow is enough to put the ooze down.
Out of combat!

The Stone Fist |

Just in case he doesn't have the opportunity later, Haftor reaches out and rests his hand on Jarrek's shoulder, providing Torag's blessing of healing.
"Nasty blobby beasties," he adds in a mutter.
CLW on Jarrek 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Haftor now has 1 1st lvl and 1 2nd lvl spell remaining.

Trianne Ashton |

Haftor now has 1 1st lvl and 1 2nd lvl spell remaining.
Plus his Ever Forgotten Pearl of Power? [em Mom Voice] Which I still don’t see on your character sheet? [/em Mom Voice]
“Well fought,” Trianne says with a smile. “Can we keep the screaming to a minimum until we find Grenseldek?”
She gives the oozes a few seconds, making sure they’re dead, before hooking her wand to her belt and twirling a pointer finger to get everyone moving into the tunnel.
“C’mon. Let’s get out of view,” she says, pulling her staff to hand once more.
I’m fine with position 3, 4, or 5 and can provide light as needed.

Kronug the Merciless |

Kronug is just about to begin praising Gorum (which normally involves screaming and banging his sword on his armor) when he hears Trianne's caution.
"Right."
He cleans off the sword.
"Praise Gorum for this victory," he says at ordinary volume.

The Stone Fist |

Haftor wrote:Haftor now has 1 1st lvl and 1 2nd lvl spell remaining.Plus his Ever Forgotten Pearl of Power? [em Mom Voice] Which I still don’t see on your character sheet? [/em Mom Voice]

I did factor in the spell I recovered using the Pearl. I'm also going to add it to my sheet right now...Mom.
Fearing this might be a trap, Haftor would like to take the rear position in the marching order so we are heavily armored both front and back.

DM Carbide |

The passage turns south and runs another ten feet or so before ending in a circular chamber that's waist-deep (for the humans) in foul-smelling water. Ten feet above the water, a hole in the ceiling opens into what's likely a latrine. The walls are rough-hewn stone and not terribly slimy, looking like a moderately difficult but not impossible climb.

The Stone Fist |

"By Torag's sanctified nethers." Haftor wrinkles his nose as he looks around the sewers.
If Seamus is going to climb up, Haftor will give him one end of his rope and cast Guidance on the gnome. He offers a boost, but someone taller would probably be of greater assistance.

DM Carbide |

How do you want to get up there?

The Stone Fist |

[ooc]I was assuming Seamus had some climbing skill and was willing to give it a try. He could stand on someone's shoulders for a boost, climb up through the hole, secure the rope and drop it down for us to follow.

DM Carbide |

Kronug easily scales the wall, emerging through the hole into an empty room decorated in a pattern of pale blue and white tiles. Some of the tiles are cracked or missing. See new map page.
If Kronug lowers a rope, the rest of the party can follow him up.

DM Carbide |

On the way up, someone notices an old boot wedged between the stones near the top of the shaft. The leather is ancient and somewhat mildewed.

Jarrek Everstand |

Jarrek grabs the boot and stuffs it in a pocket before continuing up the rope. Once up, he takes it out and says "Anyone else see this boot? Seemed weird, stuck in the side of a sewer shaft."

DM Carbide |

It falls into pieces when Jarrek takes it, although he's able to hold onto the buckle.

The Stone Fist |

Haftor climbs up, grumbling the whole way. Once in the room, he adjusts his belt and looks around. "Hrm. Double doors."
Waiting for Seamus to check out the door. Haftor can pull them open so Jarrek or Kronug will have the jump on any baddies on the other side.

Trianne Ashton |

Trianne’s face has been decidedly unpleasant during the entirety of the ascent once the biological nature of the approach crystallizes. With unladylike grace, she finishes the climb by arming her weight over the lip. She stands and brushes herself off, looking around at the chamber.
She hears what Haftor says and replies, “To a privy?” She shrugs and assumes the fort at one time either served royalty or that this was a common practice in the military with the regular comings and goings of multiple soldiers. Then her grimace returns at the thought, and she shakes her head to clear her mind.
Staff in one hand. Everburning Torch in the other.

Jarrek Everstand |

Jarrek chuckles and tucks the buckle into his belt pouch. "Could maybe put somebody's eye out with it, yeah." He grins at Seamus as he pulls his huge sword off his back and gets ready for Haftor to open the door.

Seamus MacWirst |

Seamus creeps forward to inspect the doorway, Hey that buckle could be useful if caught in a card game with some fey, or a goblin? he tries to offer the bright side. Checking the door he clicks his tongue a few times and then....
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15Included the +2 for trapfinding
Opens the door to see what's on the other side....
that could have been better.... if for some reason DC15 spots a trap, he won't open it, but I doubt it.

DM Carbide |

The doors seem untrapped, and open onto a short hallway.

Kronug the Merciless |

Kronug takes the lead. He assumes there are probably not traps throughout the heavily-traveled hallways of the fort (such as to the privy), and so proceeds without the constant active checks, though he does attempt to be relatively quiet.
He will Take 10 on Stealth for a 9, if allowed; it's not great but it's better than not attempting Stealth at all, and with distance/door modifiers it might avoid some notice.

DM Carbide |

There's a set of double doors to the east, and a single door to the north. Which way would you like to go?

DM Carbide |

Anyone else want to vote?

Kronug the Merciless |

Kronug opens the double doors, Gorum's Thorn at the ready.
He stops to listen for foes before proceeding.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

DM Carbide |

The Kellid hears sounds of heavy footsteps, and an occasional deep grunt.
