Voren the Outsider
Voren looks shocked at the new corpse rising and the appearance of the new demons. He tries to learn more about them.
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Voren steps next to Lisandra. Glaring at the newly arisen corpse, his eyes turn black once more and the dark aura emanates.
Move to M10 and use Evil Eye Hex on V3 to decrease its AC by 2 for 6 rounds. Will Save DC 15 decreases this to 1 round.
-------
Dakota, is your inspired courage still going?
The eagle shrieks at the appearance of the new demons. Voren shouts, "Mon ami! Attaquer le démon derrière le grand!" The eagle wheels around, flying to the dretch and clawing at it.
Eagle will fly to J6. It remains for 2 more rounds. Does it take an AoO for moving around/through the squares occupied by monster V1?
Attack: Talon: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 1 = 18
Attack: Talon: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7

Round 5_____
Arthas Sword of Ragathiel_____
The Paladin's hair curls with holy power as he holds Radiance aloft and channels a burst of positive energy which radiates outward and into the ground where the demons had taken refuge.
Channel DC14 for half: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 1) = 7
V1 Will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 Save! Takes 3.

If V1 is still standing after Arthas's channel: 5' shift, attack,
But missed horribly.
and try to push Tentak again. But failed.
Lisandra Elsinore_____
Casting Sanctuary, and then moving to M10. Also, Arthas is up another 5HP with transfer.
Karthak Ironbreaker_____
Karthak recalls the Dretches need cold iron or good aligned weapons to hit, is immune to electricity and poison, and has a lesser resistance to the others. Oh, and are REALLY dumb.
after a moment the dwarf moves forward and sends his waraxe crushing down towards the obese demon's belly!
Critical hit! Karthak’s axe passed all the way through the dead body of Lord Hulrun, the Vermlek hiding inside, and out his back in a single supreme flash. The two halves of the body, the two halves of the horrible demon worm and the associate ichor fly spinning though the air.
lavdi_____
Iavdi charges towards V3, ending up in O7, and slices her longsword toward...it.
Still using Power Attack
She hits! For moderate damage.
Dakota Bloomingdale_____
Dakota moves toward Jokum and casts Heroism on him. +2 morale bonus on attack rolls, saves, and skill checks for 40 minutes.
Voren the Outsider_____
Voren recalls the Dretches need cold iron or good aligned weapons to hit, are immune to electricity and poison, and has a lesser resistance to the others. Oh, and are REALLY dumb.

Will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Eagle will fly to J6.

Bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 Miss.

Vermlek 3 attacks Iavdi.
Scythe attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 for a possible 2d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 1) + 3 = 5 slashing damage.
Dretch 1: 23
Dretch 2: 27
Vermlek 3: 28
Dakota Bloomingdale
Dakota moves again to assist Iavdi who is all alone against two enemies
"Watch out Iavdi! Don't worry, I've got your back!"
Aid Another defensively, +4 to Iavdi's to hit if successful: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 1 + 1 - 4 = 16
+4 to Iavdi's first attack on top of bless and insp. courage
Lisandra Elsinore
As Arthas heals, the life link slows as Lisandra steps forward; realizing that her own energy had been depleted, she resolved to tend to herself.
Crossing her arms across her chest and resting her hands on her shoulders, Lisandra bows her head and quietly prays to Sarenrae. As does so, a soothing gold energy seems to envelop her for a brief moment.
Action: Transfer 4 HP to Arthas topping him to full, move to M9, cast Cure Moderate Wounds on self.
Cure Spell: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (2, 8) + 4 = 14 restored to Lisandra, bringing her back up to full health as well.
Jokum of the Breakbones
Aw, man. Look at all these stacking bonuses! Sadly I think the heroism overrides bless, so at this point I should have inspire courage+heroism+favored enemy.
Jokum bellows and swings his sword at the dretch in front of him! "Back to the abyss, abomination!"
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 23
Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (4, 6) + 5 + 1 + 2 = 18
...and sadly the sword is only magic.
lavdi
|
Iavdi winces as the vermlek's scythe slices into her, but instinctively knows that it's just a minor flesh wound.
Understanding that the vermlek is the major threat here, she will swing at it again.
Power Attack
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 2 + 4 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 11
Also, Camris, Dretch 2's claw hit Iavdi, since she charge at the vermlek, although I didn't use the attack bonus, so I don't know if I actually charged. Up to you.
It's a cold iron longsword, but I didn't hit. So it doesn't matter. Thanks for the help, Dakota, sorry I wasted it!
Karthak Ironbreaker
Seeing the first Vermelek fall Karthak pressess the advantage and slashes at the other obese monstruosity:"Fall and be cleansed, demonspawned scum!"
Attack roll: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 24
Damage roll: 1d10 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7
Step to O8, next the vermelek still standing and attack!
Voren the Outsider
Voren stares at the remaining vermlek. He then looks at his hands. With a grim determination, he bolts forward, towards the vermlek. When he arrives, he places his left hand on the body. He begins to channel positive energy. Eyes glowing white, he glares at the creature. "You are desecrating this body, worm! Now, I will heal it!" The healing energy then goes to the vermlek. Voren can feel the skin under his hand begin to burn.
Move to O7. Using Cure Moderate Wounds to damage the vermlek.
Cure Moderate Wounds: 2d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (7, 5) + 4 + 1 = 17
------
As he runs, Voren shouts, "Une fois de plus! Attaquer le dretch une fois de plus! Avec tout ce que vous avez!" The eagle responds and, with a screech, divebombs the dretch, clawing and biting it.
Full attack on Dretch 1
Attack: Bite (flanking, insp. courage): 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 12 If the eagle is affected by bless, then it's 13.
Attack: Talon (flanking, insp. courage): 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 25 If the eagle is affected by bless, then it's 26.

Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 21 If the eagle is affected by bless, then it's 22.

Damage: Talon (insp. courage): 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Extra crit damage (if applicable): 1d4 ⇒ 4
Celestial eagle remains for 1 round.
Voren the Outsider
If the inspire courage affects the crit damage as well, then that would be 5.
DM-Camris
Round 6_____
Dakota Bloomingdale_____
Dakota moves again to assist Iavdi who is all alone against two enemies
Aid Another defensively, +4 to Iavdi's to hit if successful: Success!
+4 to Iavdi's first attack on top of bless and insp. Courage
Lisandra Elsinore_____
Action: Transfer 4 HP to Arthas topping him to full, move to M9, cast Cure Moderate Wounds on self.
Cure Spell: 14 restored to Lisandra.
Jokum of the Breakbones_____
Jokum bellows and swings his sword at the dretch in front of him! "Back to the abyss, abomination!"
He hits for very serious damage.
lavdi_____
Understanding that the vermlek is the major threat here, she will swing at it again.
But she fumbled the attack.
Also, Camris, Dretch 2's claw hit Iavdi, since she charged at the vermlek, It would hit Iavdi for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 slashing damage.
Karthak Ironbreaker_____
Step to O8, next the vermelek still standing and attack! He hits for moderate damage.
AoO from Dretch 1 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 Hit! for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 slashing damage.
Voren the Outsider_____
With a grim determination, he bolts forward, towards the vermlek.
He has to shove by Karthak, precipitating an AoO.
AoO vs Voren: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20 Hit! for 2d4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 1) + 3 = 6 slashing damage.
Move to O7. Using Cure Moderate Wounds to damage the vermlek.
Cure Moderate Wounds: = 17
Will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 Save! His flesh boils at the positive energy, but he only takes 8 damage.
------
The eagle responds and, with a screech, divebombs the dretch, clawing and biting it.
Full attack on Dretch 1
Attack: Bite (flanking, insp. courage): Miss.
Attack: Talon (flanking, insp. courage): Hit!. For 3.
Attack: Talon (flanking, insp. courage): Critical hit! The Dretch is torn apart and derezzes out of existance!
Celestial eagle remains for 1 round.
(npc) Arthas_____
Arthas hooks around to flank the dretch and attack with Radiance.
Radiance attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 1 + 2 = 17 Hit! for 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 slashing damage.
Enemies__________
Dretch 2_____
Dretch 2 steps to flank full attack Iavdi.
Claw 1: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 = 10 Miss.
Claw 2: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 2 = 11 Miss.
Bite: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 2 = 25 Hit! for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3.
Vermlek 3 attacks Iavdi.
Scythe attack: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 10 + 2 = 19 Miss.
Dretch 2: 22
Vermlek 3: 13
Dakota Bloomingdale
Seeing Iavdi flanked by the enemies, Dakota tries her best to defend her friend:
Aid Another defensively, +4 to Iavdi's AC if successful: 1d20 + 8 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 8 + 1 - 4 = 21
"Careful Iavdi, they're flanking you! I'll distract them!"
Iavdi has +4 to her AC for the next round.
Dakota stops her bardic performance. Need to keep some for what we'll find inside. Therefore we only have +1 from blessing (and Jokum has heroism).
Arthas Sword of Ragathiel
Five foot step to V3 to flank with Voren.
He makes an overhand swing---
1d20 + 8 + 2 + 2 - 1 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 2 + 2 - 1 - 2 = 23
1d10 + 4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 + 2 = 12
---then tries to batter with his Darkwood shield.
1d20 + 7 + 2 + 2 - 2 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 7 + 2 + 2 - 2 - 1 = 18
1d6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 2 = 9
"We shall strike thee down,"
Karthak Ironbreaker
I'm not sure if Arthas managed to hit with both shield and sword. If not the Vermelek could still be standing, otherwise the only creature left is the dretch... who to attack then?
Jokum of the Breakbones
Seeing the dretch in front of him go down, Jokum grimly turns and sprints toward the next one.
Charge to square M7 to flank with Iavdi.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 4 = 26
Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2, 5) + 5 + 1 + 2 = 15
Again, sword is magic only.
EDIT: Also, Jokum takes no penalty to AC when charging demons.
Karthak Ironbreaker
Got to post now because I won't be near my PC until tomorrow, if the Vermelek was dead already please consider the attack aimed at the dretch instead
Karthak swings againtrying to cut down the obese monster once and for all!
Attack roll: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 = 27
Damage roll: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
EDIT
Critical confirmation roll: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 = 27
Damage roll: 1d10 + 3 + 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 + (1) + 3 = 15
RE-EDIT: 0_0'

The body of the Vermlek/Paladin thing you killed shivered. Then the corpulent body seemed to shrink rapidly to skin and bones.
Suddenly, with a hideous retching and tearing sound, the creatures face opens up like a rotten flower and a pallid five-jawed worm extruded itself from the ragged wound in the mans neck where, only moments ago a mans head sat.
With unbeatable speed, it dove to the ground...
Voren the Outsider
Voren shouts, "There are seven or eight more shallow graves! Make ready!" He repeats this in Abyssal and Celestial. He then steps back behind Karthak. He gets his wand ready. Ready to attack.
The eagle fades back into the Celestial realms.
Eagle's gone. Voren will move to O9. Ready action: As soon as the Vermlek appears, Voren will use the wand of magic missile. CL 3rd. 9 charges left.
Missile 1: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Missile 2: 1d4 ⇒ 4
If I can retcon to attack when the Vermlek appears, then Voren will cast the wand at it before it goes underground.
Voren the Outsider
What I mean about the retcon is when the vermlek first appears from the paladin's corpse, I attack with magic missile (if I can retcon).
Dakota Bloomingdale
Dakota's initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
"Got it! Thank you Voren!"
Dakota's AoO: 1d20 + 8 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 1 - 4 = 91d4 ⇒ 4
+2 atk in case of flanking.
Dakota tries her rapier against the worm, but the monster is too quick for her.
lavdi
|
Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Edit: Iavdi quickly reacts to the creature's movement, and slashes at it with her longsword.
Power attack is still active.
Edit 2: Blesss is still up, so that 9 is a 10.
attack: 1d20 + 1 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 6 = 10
damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Lisandra Elsinore
Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Quickly reacting to Voren's warning, Lisandra grabs her morningstar and moves to strike at the horrid Vermlek before it disappears.
"Ne le laissez pas sortir!
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10
Damage, Cold Iron Morningstar: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Jokum of the Breakbones
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Jokum, seeing the worm burst out, whirls and quickly brings his greatsword down on it!
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 8 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 33
Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2) + 5 + 1 + 2 = 11
Crit?!: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 30
Bonus Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (6, 3) + 5 + 2 = 16
Not sure if bonus from inspire courage multiplies on a crit...but that should do. :P
DM-Camris
Warned by Voren's shout, the rest of the party is also able to strike at the Vermlek worm before it is able to burrow into the ground.
And Jokum's greatsword completely bisected the worm!
It falls into two pieces onto the ground, where it wiggled as it contracted into a blackened stain on the ground.
The Battle is over.
DM-Camris
Looking at the Garrison building, there are no ground floor entrances except for the main doors, not even windows. They are iron banded heavy wood, and a quick look reveals a difficult lock (Disable Device DC30).
Voren the Outsider
Did I use a charge from my wand of magic missile?
Voren sighs in relief and puts the wand of magic missile away. He then asks. "Is anyone seriously hurt? I used my strongest healing spell on the Vermlek to damage it. But, I can now convert other spells to healing ones. I also have plenty of healing potions, two healing wands, my healing hex, and several other things."
Voren does look slightly downtrodden. 'Once again, I didn't seem to do much. Lisandra seems to be a better healer than me.' Ayne crawls out from Voren's robes and pinches his ear. She reprimands him. 'Nonsense! You did a admirable job, boy. Now, bolster yourself! You have to infiltrate this Gray Garrison.'
Voren digs through his pack. "I also have several miscellaneous potions. Shield of Faith, Sanctuary, Protection from Evil, and one last potion of mage armor. I recommend that some of our group take them."
You're free to decide amongst yourselves which potions you want.
Also, can I have some clarification on the witch's spells? Can I cast the same spell for my allotment? For example, I have Cure Light Wounds, Ear Piercing Scream, and Summon Monster 1 prepared for my 1st level spells (which I can cast 3/day if I understand that correctly). Can I cast Summon Monster 1 three times or would I have need to prepare it three times to do so?
Arthas Sword of Ragathiel
Know Religion: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
"The demons dwelt within them animating their corpses. The corruption wasn't wrought upon their bodies and souls from their own deeds. This is not like the abomination we slew in the tower. I do not have holy water, but I can at least say a few words for them and hope their souls can find release."
"Please look around quickly for anything useable. We must find a way in."
Arthas kneels down and places Radiance cruciform on each of the mens' bodies. He folds their hands over the hilt having no fear of the corruption of their bodies.
To each he gives the Litany of Vengence and then the Rite of Passage. At the end of the quick service Arthas stands and says.
"General Vengence, we ask that you allow these men to pass into our blessed ranks. Our current circumstance in the heat of battle prevents us from giving them their full honors due. We ask that you carry our thoughts and prayers to the Lady whom we ally with, for I believe her to be these mens' patroness."
"Watch over us as we the living strive to enact your will in this place."
lavdi
|
Know(religion): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
"Those are wonderful words, Arthas. I'm sure they will find their destined afterlives, if they haven't already."
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
"It appears to be locked, and I do not have the skills needed to open it. Do any of you?"
Jokum of the Breakbones
Jokum watches Arthas's doing as he sets about collecting his arrows from where they fell, testing the durable shafts he ordered gently with his hands and finding them pleasantly solid still. A good investment. Pray to your gods if it makes you feel better, paladin, but I imagine it matters little when we all end up in the Boneyard in the end...
Aloud, he says to Voren, "I was hardly scratched in that fight--a nice change--so I have no need of healing, and I have no need of your magical wards. Give those to Arthas, Karthak, and Iavdi; they're the ones to rush into the fray first."
Looking at the door, he says dryly, "I have no skill at picking locks, but there are other ways to open a door..." He draws his newly cleaned greatsword from its sheath again to illustrate his point.
Karthak Ironbreaker
Karthak shakes his hed at Jokum's words:"Yes there are... and they announce our presence to the whole garrison within quite effectively... Can't anyone open this without allerting the enemy? Dakota?" finishes the dwarf pointing at the door.
Dakota Bloomingdale
Karthak shakes his hed at Jokum's words:"Yes there are... and they announce our presence to the whole garrison within quite effectively... Can't anyone open this without allerting the enemy? Dakota?" finishes the dwarf pointing at the door.
"Ahem, sorry Karthak, I don't have the skills... anyway, I'm afraid the noise of the battle here might have already alerted the enemy inside, and checking for secret doors might give them more time to prepare. I'd say let's just smash it down and charge!"
Lisandra Elsinore
Knowledge Religion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Observing the bodies of the fallen crusaders with abject pity, Lisandra turns to the others somewhat beside herself, though speaking normally once more "An awful fate if ever there was one; Sarenrae asks us to cleanse those bodies corrupted by demonic possession by cremation."
Glancing back at the corpses, Lisandra appears concerned "Of course, cremating them might bring attention to our position, unless..." looking around, Lisandra tries to discern if there are any fires already ongoing in the devastated area of Kenabres they are currently in.
Not sure if that is the right response, but having made the knowledge check, I thought I'd use some creative license. If there is a smouldering fire nearby, we can probably safely either move the bodies there or cremate them here since it won't be out of the ordinary.
Karthak Ironbreaker
Oh? I lost an opportunity for a knowledge check? You know Karthak is just GREAT with those... X_X
Knowledge religion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
edit: on the other hand sometimes he really is great with his rolls it seems... The question of what to do with them remains though
Karthak nods at Lisandra's suggestion:"Yes better to burn them than letting them to rot here... although at least one of them didn't deserve such a fate, a pity we cannot give them proper burial and return them to the stone. Maybe we could do that right after we cleanse this unholy pit of evil..."
Then Karthak turns to Dakota:"I see... very well if we don't have any other mean to deal with this door let's do as master Jokum suggests and smash it to pieces"
That reminds me: no NPCs like Irabeth or the others with us, right?
Arthas Sword of Ragathiel
"While I agree that burning them would be the best. There are thousands of dead in this city deserving of a heroes funeral. The stories of their heroic deaths will go untold. We must conserve our resources. These bags of flesh and bone are merely the vessels for their eternal souls. We have seen to them spiritually, meanwhile our living allies are giving up blood, life and limb for this moment of calm. We must move on."
"Unless of course you are saying that we must do something further to secure release for their immortal souls."
If there is no obvious window, place to climb up, or other obvious way in. Arthas commits to chopping their way into the front gates. It appears that Radiance is indestructable, unless I willingly kill an angel with it, so I assume I can lend it to hacking down a door.
