The flyover and the scans for evil and chaos both revealed the same thing...nothing. Magically, the entire area glowed, the emanations from the magically grown crystals diffusing into the surrounding area. Nothing is moving, though, and Calla can't pinpoint any details of the magics, other than the medium conjuration auras coming from the individual crystals.

Giving up on finding any information out at the edge of the crystal field, you decided to just head straight in, weapons and spells at the ready. You were about halfway through the crystal field when one of the thin membranes seemed to blink. An enormous, sickly eye pulled back from the veil, blinking once more. Around you, several other eyes and clusters of eyes blinked from the other hazy spots. Then, the eyes pulled back and long, barbed tentacles shot through the spots where the eyes had been!

K. Arcana DC 25, Rifts:

The magic that was used to create this place was focused on thinning the veil between the Material Plane and the Abyss. The shimmering hazes, apparent now that you have gotten closer and seen what was happening, are likely tears in the veil between the realities.

K. Arcana DC 32, creature:

This is likely the abyssal harvester that the genie warned you about. It can send its tentacles through the veil between worlds to snatch its prey. Once grabbed, the prey is pulled back through the veil to feed the harvester.

Bruendor's strikes slid off the abyssal creature's leathery skin like striking stone. Two of Calla's arrows struck through, doing some minor amount of damage. Lefrik also landed a hit. Kelendra's spell was far more effective, burning one of the tentacles badly. None of the wounds did very much damage though, and even in the dim light around you you could see the wounds starting to close back over.

Anklebiter's revelation about what the creature was sparked a bit of recollection in Calla. It was resistant to all but cold iron weapons!

Kelendra's spell shot through Lefrik like a lightning bolt, leaving him to feel like his bones were jelly. In fact, his bone's were jelly, or at least bendable. Lefrik found himself on the ground, still feeling wobbly, but with the tentacle in the air above him, instead of wrapped around his body. A few feet away, the deva landed lightly on its feet as well, freed by the same spell.

The tentacle holding Bruendor continued to constrict, crushing the dwarf and making him feel like jelly, but not the good kind. Then, Lefrik's freed blade came crashing in from the side, slicing through the tentacle holding Bruendor. If Freed, again, Lefrik curses and with haste still adding to his already amazing speed moves to slash at another tendril

This time, the odds fell your way. Bruendor slashed deeply into the tentacle holding Lefrik. Calla landed two devastating shots, each one severing critical nerves in two different tentacles, freeing Lefrik and destroying another, while wounding a third with an off-balance shot. Kelendra and Anklebiter finished off the last two with their magics. A roar of pain and anger poured through the thin rifts in the air, and through the nearest you get a glimpse of an enormous creature moving quickly away.

The battlefield is quiet now, with the exception of your breathing and the gentle, not-quite-pleasant hum coming from a pedestal under the largest of the crystal arches. The off-putting noise is offset by the soothing purple light emanating from a sigil carved into the pedestal. The sigil looks as if it were comprised of thousands of smaller runes or glyphs written in a magical script. Approaching it, you feel like your worries and troubles are being washed away, but you also feel a little...unclean.

Do people who need to heal want to do that?

Anklebiter casts his cantrip and leaned in. The minuscule glyphs seemed to expand in his vision, turning into forms that he could clearly read. The first thing he saw was this line:

“And so spoke Abraxas: give unto me your faith, and I shall grant to you a cleansing unlike any you have witnessed or conceived.”

Then, more information flitted through his mind. He understood that he was looking at the Glyph of Renewal, that had the ability to heal evil and extraplanar creatures nearby, and also to regenerate any of the other glyphs that maybe destroyed. He also learned that while inflict, enervation, and energy drain spells can temporarily deactivate the glyph, it can also be permanently destroyed by smashing it to pieces or through the healing arts

Heal check while touching the spell would get you more info

"If so, you weren't alone, I've done better, but self recriminations will not aid us, eh? " Lefrik smiles, "It is a battle, and we won. More over, it was a battle in a good cause. I can think of little better." Lefrik chuckles "Though it was a vexing foe."
