The moonlight bridge popped into place just as the deva's spell wrapped three of the drow in holy light. Two of the creatures flinched away, burned, but not too badly, but the third screamed and clawed at his eyes with crisped hands. Bruendor took advantage of the distraction to race up the moonlight bridge ad drive his rapier into the drow's neck. The drow burbled in pain and terror, swaying on his feet.

The shaitan gestured, and one of the drow froze in place, muscles quivering as they strained to push against the magical forces holding them steady.

Lefrik leaped up the ramp after Bruender, bringing his weapon down in a powerful arc, catching his target in the side. The drow recovered remarkably smoothly, slashing at Lefrik with his rapier and drawing a fine line of blood. He was joined by another, while a third went to engage Bruendor and hold the dwarf still while his companion cleared the blindness from his eyes. The final two drow abandoned the shaitan and leaped down from the dais, heading straight for the rear guard.

Anklebiter's spell took the charging drow in the chest, and the dark elf screamed as he was nearly completely obliterated by the fire spell. Up on the balcony, yet more screams erupted as the deva's holy smite blasted full force into two of the drow, while a third managed to survive without as much damage, and with his eyes intact. The shaitan also was burned by the spell, and she glared daggers at the movanic deva before turning her attention back to the drow. Bruendor managed to badly wound the elf to his left, then cross-lunged at the blinded elf to his right, only to miss as the drow staggered at the last moment. Kel's spell fizzled as the coruscating light came into contact with the remaining nearby drow. The evil smile on the creature's face blossomed as he saw the spell failing. That smile became a rictus grin as three of Calla's arrows punched through armor and flesh. The running drow fell to the floor in a tangle of limbs, sliding to a stop well short of the archer. The shaitan slashed at one of the blinded drow, but the blade sailed smoothly past its target.

Calla moved forward as spells and bodies flew past her. She concentrated on what lay ahead, and yes, there was indeed an aura of evil on the platform. But, with all the combatants, it was impossible to tell who, or what, what exuding it. Anklebiter held no illusions. In his mind, the deva was acting on its nature, attacking a force of evil. So, Anklebiter waived it off and then attacked himself, sending a gout of magical missiles to slam into the shaitan. Lefrik moved to protect the goblin, and Bruendor took an advantageous position behind the genie, though his attacks missed entirely.

Kelendra crinkled her brow as she concentrated, trying to recall what she knew about shaitan genies. She supposed there was no reason a shaitan would not know disintegration spells, though such creatures were commonly limited to shope- and mineral-related spellcraft. More telling was the splash of blood. No shaitan should bleed like that, as they were creatures of the plane of earth, and their bodies did not bleed as mortals' do.

The deva retreated at Anklebiter's words, though she did not leave for the astral plane. Instead, she bowed her head and prayed. An infusion of holy power closed the worst of her wounds, and started the healing process.

The genie screamed "How dare you come into my home and attack without provocation! You will regret this, fallen angel! Please, surface dwellers, do not let this false angel deceive you. I bear you no ill will, but she must be stopped!" Her hands moved again, and another spell formed. Rays of black and red fire spouted towards the deva, but stopped short before they touched her.

Bruendor may take an AOO to stop the spell if he wishes

Anklebiter puzzles as to what this creature might be ... even whether he might truly have drawn up a fallen angel, but he comes to no quick conclusions.

Spell penetration 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 11 + 2 = 33

In the absence of sure knowledge, the Goblin sticks to the course. He rises into the air and flies towards the battle. Along the way he opens his mouth wide as if to scream - but the only one who hears the scream is the shaitan!

"Soldier of Righteousness, fall back! Get out of its range and keep healing!"

Move: Anklebiter flies to S 16.

Now committed to the battle, Bruendor takes advantage of the shaitan's focus upon the deva, stabbing her handily in the side. "That 'fallen' angel was appeased by the destruction of an evil artifact. I'm placing my trust in AB, Heaven, and the deva."

Anklebiter recognized the failed spell as a shadow conjuration. A greater version of the spell, unless he was mistaken. Bruendor's blade drove into the creature as it cast, disrupting the shaitan's concentration and helping to end the spell prematurely.

As the battle begins and the shaitan calls out, Calla calls on her ability to tell truth from lies, trying to discern what is truly happening here.

Discern lies as an immediate action (DC 17 Will save negates).

If I don't discern a lie:

She waits, still trying to tell what is truly evil.

If I discern a lie:

Calla frowns, but decides to trust Stars' knowledge and lets her spell fade, returning to her bow instead. But her uncertainty leads to poor aim.

Calla frowns as her spell is resisted by the shaitan. Her gut instinct is to attack - something, anything - but she waits again to see what is really going on. Anklebiter is not so reticent. He was absolutely certain that the deva was not evil, and thus the shaitan had to be....or at least was insane. His spell reverberated in the shaitan's head, but the goblin could tell that she had resisted at least some of the spell, even as Bruendor attacked again and Lefrik positioned himself in front of the deva.

"Fools! We know of your coming now, but you will not stop the coming Armageddon!" The shaitan stepped back, stone-like flesh and large stature dissolving into smooth skin just as dark, but on a petite drow female. "Allevrah will be waiting for you, as will I!" The drow waved the wand clutched in her hand and disappeared, a slight pop of displaced air telling of her passing.

The deva sagged, partly in injury, partly in frustration, as the drow disappeared. She turned slowly in place then said "I sense no signs of evil about us. It seems that our foe has left us, taking warning of our presence with her."

"Unless the Pathfinders lied, there probably was one, though whether she moved on from this place willingly or not remains to be seen," Bruendor replied, sheathing his blade, snapping it into his hilt hard in frustration. He then begins to search around as well, hoping he could find some evidence of the shaitan's passing.

"Unless they lied... or were themselves fooled. If we can't find the geniekin, I can summon several celestials capable of casting an augury tomorrow, to help us get our bearings."

Calla and Bruendor searched the area, both of them circling back to the stone altar. The altar appears to be made of a solid piece of granite, but Brundor saw scuff marks on the stone floor beside the altar in a roughly circular arc. Calla found a hidden button under the lip of the altar and, after assuring herself that it was not trapped, pressed it. There was a slight click, and the altar shifted subtly, but it would take a good bit of strength to move such a might block of stone.

Strength checks, please. Highest roll is the base, and all others will aid

Calla stands back, bow in hand, assuming Lefrik will be able to move the thing.
