Your Humble Narrator

You can move 1/4 speed while prone, but it provokes AOO. I think Marcus doesn't want to provoke an AOO... He could attack from prone at a -4 penalty, but again he may not want to attract attention to himself :P.

DM Alexander Kilcoyne wrote:
I'm afraid theres no such move as a 5 foot crawl. Unless you have the Rogue Crawl rogue talent.

Cool. I have been playing that wrong for an awfully long time then.

The fabric of reality warps a bit. Blinking, Marcus does his best to defend himself on the ground, while flanking the leader for his companions with his shield.

Total Defense AC 22

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

I had Chi standing in the same square as she was having a stab at the red haired one. Does that stop the AoO, if Marcus rolls away?...or does she kick him gently back. Although it assumes she's still standing...which I doubt...

Male Human Fighter 5 50/50 hp 4hp nonlethal

Marcus is going first but isn't provoking an AOO at least this turn. We will see if Alex allows Chi to move over his prone body to deliver the dagger thrust.

Ironically Gwen's continuous healing may end up killing Marcus when the leader gets round to his next turn :)

Your Humble Narrator

Both would still provoke AOO- while Marcus is prone i'm not going to treat you as squeezing, but when/if he stands up in your square you will be.

Marcus groggily raises his shield to defend himself. Tun'ada's right claw slashes Klorax once again but his left is obstructed by the savage's scimitar. Chi steps in and thrusts her dagger into Klorax's stomach, but the incredibly tough barbarian refuses to go down. The remaining savage continues to protect his faltering chieftain.

Ambroze is up...

Round Seven:
Ambroze continues to offer words of advice for battling the savages. As he does so, he steps up next to Savarend and stabs at the wounded cannibal with his wickedly sharp short sword.

Free action to continue Bardic Performance (Naturalist). Move action to move 15 ft to square south of Savarend. Standard action to attack savage.

Bardic Performance Used Today: 5 rounds

Does that put everyone but Gwen in the naturalist area?

Your Humble Narrator

Ambroze, the red circles denote incapacitated and dying, the red cross means dead; effectively there are no foes for Ambroze to finish (but unless I hear otherwise from you i'll assume you dispatch an incapacitated one.

Ambroze moves beside Savarend, viciously gutting the downed cannibal.

Round 8-

Initiative-
Klorax the Red (acted)- 23
Savarend- 22
Gwenyth- 20
Marcus- 14
Tun'ada- 12
Chi- 12
Savages- 12
Ambroze- 9

Active Effects-
Bless- all the castaways
Naturalist- All except Gwen.
Evil-Eye- Klorax to AC

Map Update-Link

Klorax focuses his entire assault on Tun'ada, and despite his rage you can see desperation in his eyes. Beside him, the other savage sags against the wall, his rage ending and fatigue setting in. In the furious melee, Klorax presses his attack and manages to deal Tun'ada a brutal scimitar blow. Off-balance a little, Tun'ada nevertheless manages to parry Klorax's second blow with his claws with cat-like reflexes, shoving him back before he can take a bite out of him.

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24 Hit
1d6 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 Miss

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 Miss

Works for me!

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2

Tun'ada falls to the ground after the brutal scimitar slash...

After falling out of rage, Tun'ada is at -9 HP.

Marcus Alanto wrote:

I believe so...

Tun'ada wrote:

With Ambroze's naturalist and Chi's mage armour your aware the second scimitar blow missed right?

Yes, I was at 13 HP before the first hit, which dropped me to -3 and made me fall out of rage, which dropped me to -9.

EDIT: Hmmm I thought he was bitten once too, but I can't seem to find that. Barring that, I guess Tun'ada is still up and raging at 6 HP.

Male Human Fighter 5 50/50 hp 4hp nonlethal

There was a 9 point scimitar hit in round 7?

Savarend strides confidently across the field and slams the heel of his foot into the savage leader's kidney.

Move to -Q20.

Attack 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

With flanking bonus I think that is my correct attack bonus. Using my Punishing Kick for the day. Fortitude DC 14 or fall prone.

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2
Quote:

That's the one I was missing, so my original statement stands. Tun'ada is at -9 HP after the hit and ending rage due to unconsciousness.

Male Human Fighter 5 50/50 hp 4hp nonlethal

On the assumption Gwen is still away shall we bot another channel? Here is a dice roll if so 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5

Assuming leader is still up. Marcus grabs his shield with both hands and brings it down desperately on the leader's knee.

1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 - 4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 1 + 1 - 4 + 2 = 81d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 bless, naturalist, prone, flanking

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2

Smacks self in the the forehead...I suppose it would help if I had count ANY of Gwen's Channel Energies. Tun'ada should still be up and at 14 HP. Sorry for being a dumb@$$.

No dramas. I just wanted a go at breaking the crap channel roll streak.

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2

Now that I'm done with my bout with stupidity...

Assuming the leader still stands, Tun'ada will attack him, otherwise attack the other savage.

Right Claw:1d20 + 8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 1 + 1 = 15 (bless, naturalist)
Damage:1d4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Left Claw:1d20 + 8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 1 + 1 = 17 (bless, naturalist)
Damage:1d4 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Female Human Oracle 4

I am still away, but I'll be back tomorrow.

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Chi seeing she has the red headed one flanked, decides to stay and try and hit the cruel man one more time, but this time seeking out the soft flesh of his liver, to let the blood flow. Her cackle seems to get louder in anticipation of the strike.

M/Wrk Red Mantis Dagger attack 1d20 + 3 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 20 bless, naturalist & flanking
Dagger damage with sneak attack 1d4 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 1 + (5) = 7

Your Humble Narrator

Ok, based purely on the policy that no one bots except me (muhahaha GM power trip!) ;) i'm disregarding that channel of Gwen's that Marcus rolled. Savarend don't you have more than one punishing kick, I thought it scaled with level like stunning fist, elemental fist etc?

Savarend moves and manages to catch Klorax off-guard from behind, slamming a powerful kick into his kidneys. The kick puts Klorax further off-balance for a moment but he manages to keep his feet. Gwen desperately calls upon the blessing of the gods once more, and they respond with a particularly powerful wave of healing energy that invigorates the castaways. Marcus tries to slam his shield into Klorax's knee but he misses, off balance from the ground. Tun'ada doesn't manage to strike with either of his claws but Chi plunges her dagger into one of Klorax's organs while he recovers from Savarend's kick. With an final gasp, the mighty barbarian topples and then falls to the ground, his supernatural toughness finally outmatched by his wounds. With Klorax finally beaten, the final cannibal is quickly slain by the group...

1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17 Fort Pass
2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12 Healage for all except flesh-eaters

Four of you act before the wounded savage does so i'm nipping this in the bud.

11:50AM

Male Human Fighter 5 50/50 hp 4hp nonlethal

Marcus rolls onto his back, staring up at the sky and panting.

Bah he wasn't so tough. Don't know what we were worrying about...

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Chi looks down at Marcus, still cackling in her excitement, but with a broad smile on her face, "Well, its all right for some to lounge around on the back, leaving us to finish your work....Ha ha ha!". Turning back to see Gwen a concern enters her voice and the cackling stops, "Gwen you look exhausted, are you all right, it looks like you were right in the middle of the battle, even though you stood there?" Chi walks over to Gwen, putting am arm around her shoulders.

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2

Tun'ada slumps to the ground, obviously tired from the combat.

Exit rage, fatigued for the next 16 rounds

"We should take shelter in one of these buildings before the sun tries to finish us off."

Your Humble Narrator

Take Your Pick... (link)

"The stone turret would be the most secure and easily defensible. We can post a lookout in the guard tower and have a barricade ready in case any more savages arrive."

Your Humble Narrator

Note- I think the stone turret your referring to is the lighthouse itself (V13, V14, V15).

Male Human Fighter 5 50/50 hp 4hp nonlethal

Think V4 is the lookout post. Looks like we can secure the door. Shall we try there?

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Chi a little concerned, "but we don't know what might be hidden behind any of these doors. I think we should still show some caution, let's stay in the small shack we cleared first. It seemed safe and we left it clear of any immediate threat. Do we have time to get rid of these bodies? That pit you saw Ambroze, should we drop the bodies down there, but let's not give them their possesion in death, don't want them to use them again against us? We should be protected a bit from one approach by that lizard you saw Savarend. Should we take the easy option and go to the same cabin?"

Male Human Fighter 5 50/50 hp 4hp nonlethal

Retconning a bit back to Chi's penultimate post above.

Marcus is still looking up at the sky. Don't worry Chi. Gwen is fine she wasn't anywhere near the battle. He rolls on to his side to see and his face goes white. Gwen your wounds. What the hells happened .... that healing. Gods. It hurt you instead... He looks speechless and more upset than you've ever seen him.

Forward.

I think Chi's right about the shack but lets not dump the bodies just yet. Things seem to have an unhealthy habit of coming back to life around here. Lets burn them all later.Detect and loot on the leader?

"If we are not sure of what is behind those doors, should we really even try to rest here for the night? Perhaps we should block the outside of the doors just in case."

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2

"I'm not opposed to that plan of action, but I am also fairly confident that we won't be having any more issues with the cannibals, or else they would have been there to help their leader."

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Replying to Tun'ada, Chi says "I agree there may not be any more of these cannibals in this camp, but it doesn't mean they haven't set other dangers for us to discover. Once the heat of the day has passed, we can search the rest of this place."

Chi listens to the talk on what to do with the corpses of the cannibals, as she does she overcomes her reticence for touching these evil natives and her natural inquisitiveness gets the better of her as she searches the bodies, her eyes carefully taking in all before her, she even uses her magical sight to find those things that might be even more valuable.

Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Casts Detect magic on each body after doing the physical search.

Ambroze aids Chi with her search.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

"I don't think we should dump the bodies down into that pit. During the battle, one of the cannibals kept glancing over toward that trapdoor. I don't know, but it made me wonder if he was expecting reinforcements to come from that pit. I agree with Chi - I think we should wait out the heat in the one place we know is safe before looking for any more surprises."

Female Human Oracle 4

Thanks for covering for me, everyone (mostly AK).

Coming to herself after the events of the combat, Gwen shrugs.

It's nothing, really. I asked the gods to take some of your injury upon myself, and they obliged me. It's nothing you wouldn't and haven't done for me already. I'm tougher than I look, I can take it!

She smiles meekly, and winks.

I agree, though - let's head back to the medicine woman's shack. Good Ambroze, perhaps you could give me a hand determining the nature of these potions I found while we're there?

Eight pale grey potions and three green potions with tiny, blood red bubbles bursting inside.

Your Humble Narrator

Spellcraft checks to identify the potions please- two checks, one for the grey potions, one for the green potions.

DC20 Passed (Grey Potions):

The potions are Cure Light Wounds.

DC20 Passed (Green Potions):

The potions are Lesser Restoration, despite their rather macabre look...

Resting from the midday sun in the witch's hut, you emerge at 3PM or so to a torrent of tropical rain, pouring down upon Smuggler's Shiv and washing most of the blood from your recent battle away into the ocean. You have secured yourselves fine shelter, and have taken control of a mostly-finished lighthouse- and you set about exploring the buildings...

I'm going to assume you take every precaution searching the buildings etc.- and this is what you find. Refer to the map below-

Map of Thrunefang Camp

V1- Lizard Guard

A quick inspection of the camp reveals that the lizard guarding the entrance to the camp has been cut loose from the tree it was tethered to. Looking at the tracks left by whoever did the cutting, you deduce from the small feet that the females of the tribe have made their escape during your rest; although it looks like they left in too much of a hurry to take much with them.

V2- Firepit & Trapdoor

The firepit is serviceable, as is the cauldron atop it. You don't open the trapdoor yet, but it is the pile of sticks by the lighthouse.

V3- Communal Hut

The largest hut in the camp, this appears to be where the male cannibals shared living space, sleeping atop crude skins and blankets.

V4- Guard Post

This guard post sits 10 feet above the ground on thick stilts, and grants an excellent view of the sea and the path leading up to the camp.

V5- Storage Hut

This hut is used to store crude tools, food (human flesh) and drinking water.

V6- Butchery

This wide area has an open wall looking out over the prisoner pen to the south. Two long, horrifically bloodstained slabs of wood serve as butcher’s tables. The setup was clearly designed so that any prisoners could see their fellows being cooked alive.

V7- The Prisoner Pen

Open to the sky, this muddy yard is fenced in by a bamboo and driftwood fence. Numerous stakes driven deep into the ground provide places for prisoners to be tied with their hands behind their backs.

V8- Refuse Pit

This muddy, 10-foot-deep pit is where the cannibals appeared to generally dispose of the remains of their meals, along with any other refuse they had.

V9- Skeleton Pen

V10/11- Malikadna's Hut

V12- Guard Post

This small room appears to be a guard post to keep the lighthouse secure.

V13- Lighthouse Foyer

This large room looks as though it served as a gathering point for the cannibals.

V14- Bedroom

In contrast to the general mess foundi n the camp, this converted storage room contains a crude (but comfortable) bed made of driftwood and a homemade feather mattress, along with the remains of several meals.

Gwen Only:

You recognise the remains of some of the meals as the rations you helped prepare aboard the Jenivere...

V15- Shrine

This cluttered room has been decorated with all manner of relics and remnants, seemingly taken from a shipwreck, including its Asmodeus-shaped figurehead, which looms to the north as the centerpiece of this temple-like area. The room functions as a shrine to the Thrunefangs’ history—and contains a fantastic amount of clutter.

Knowledge (History) DC20:

You can confirm that the items here date from the earliest days of the House of Thrune’s rule over Cheliax, and were likely taken from one of several ships that sailed south to Sargava over 70 years ago in the failed attempt to reestablish control over the wayward colony.

V16- Chieftains Den

This appears to have been Chief Klorak's personal chambers, with a mass of blankets to accomodate both him and his consorts. The chamber is decorated with furniture, most of which is in relatively poor shape and likely plundered from a shipwreck. A dented footlocker against the east wall contains contains several rotted bags, along with 6,300 sp and 270 gp. The money is dusty and apparently long lost value to the cannibals.

V17- Balcony

This wooden balcony is built onto the side of the lighthouse and supported by a tangled mess of driftwood and bamboo scaffolding. Although it looks rickety, the balcony is quite stable. It’s a 20-foot drop to the ground below.

V18- The Light

The top of the lighthouse was never quite finished— but the massive bronze reflector and other machinery here could be restored to functionality with several days work, perhaps less if someone with knowledge of engineering was to supervise.

Other Loot-

Six 50GP red pearls (worn by cannibals)
8 Javelins
6 Light Wooden Shields
Ornate Red Pearl amulet (worn by Klorax, worth 500GP)
Heavy Wooden Shield

Magical Scimitar
Magical Chainmail with the symbol of House Thrune emblazoned upon it.

4:30PM

Anyone mind if I take the javelins?

Your Humble Narrator

Bump.

Male Human Fighter 5 50/50 hp 4hp nonlethal

Nope go for it.

I think we should secure the loot and then get everyone from the camp so we're all together. Then a very large fire.

The trapdoor makes me nervous. Marcus will stick something heavy across it just for safety sake.

EditFrom the description the bedroom with the bed really seems out of place from the rest of the camp. I'd like to search it extra carefully (take 20).

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2

That seems like a reasonable plan. By the way, did we find Jask's holy symbol?

Alex, do we have enough time once we are through the hottest part of the day to get to the other and get them all back here before sundown?

Your Humble Narrator
Marcus Alanto wrote:

They should already be well en route, assuming they waited out the midday heat.

You find Jask's gear in the storage hut.

Marcus doesn't find anything of note in the bedroom- but Gwen, make sure you read the spoiler in my long post above....

Male Human Fighter 5 50/50 hp 4hp nonlethal

Temptation rising to read Gwen's spoiler..

Marcus blocks the trapdoor with several large pieces of wood.

After removing his breastplate he then start dragging bodies, body parts and other things requiring a good burning into the firepit in preparation for the mother of all cleansing fires. He can't help but touch from time to time the wound that the leader grabbed, though healed over and the leader's body safely deposited in the pit, Marcus seems nervous about it.

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Chi tired from the fighting finds it hard to recall the historical details.

rolls:

Knowledge(history) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
If Chi can take a 10 on the spellcraft she can work out what's in the potions, if not...
Grey Spellcraft 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Green Spellcraft 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

Your Humble Narrator

Chi, take 10 is fine.

So are we just waiting for the main camp to arrive and for Gwen to post?

Your Humble Narrator

I was waiting for people to react to my long post, ask any questions, declare any actions, make rolls to identify the magical items and for Gwen to read her spoiler.

Female Human Oracle 4

Apologies, Super Bowl weekend in Pittsburgh is...a cultural phenomenon, to say the least.

In the bedroom, Gwen arches an eyebrow and gestures to the remains of the meals.

I'd know that food anywhere...I helped to prepare it, aboard the Jenevere. The Captain and that...woman...have been here, and fairly recently, too.

This place is foul, I wish to be gone from here.
