Ok, roll call- whos ready to advance beyond the level-up once I finish Utilinus' scene with Ansha and any other fluff events I have lined up?
I do get the feeling that this is the most developed i've seen characters fee1 in one of my games and i'd like to commend everyone for some excellent RP all round. Obviously having 1000 posts with no real standard DND combat helped :).
In case it wasn't obvious, i've done away with tracking XP for the campaign. Hope no one has a problem with that.

Ansha Saeralyan |

Completely ready here too. I've taken the liberty of putting her level 2 stats on this alias, which will be what I post under in the IC thread from now on (I felt so alone as the only blue name in the thread!). And no problems about tracking XP from me. I can't remember the last time we bothered with that in my tabletop games.

Tebati |

Done.
(I felt so alone as the only blue name in the thread!)
The only blue name, the only non-Polyglot speaker: you're taking away all our reasons to mock and exclude you! ;)
I wish I could get rid of XP-tracking in my RL game, but my guys all salivate like Pavlov's dog at the end of a session, waiting for their XPs. So I always end up having to come up with random encounters and story awards to keep them on track for the AP. :P

Ansha |

You just keep wearing away at my in-duh-viduality! :<
Next thing you know, I'll be putting ranks in Sense Motive and conspiring with Kalabuta separatists! ;P
(Although, honestly, I really wish Sense Motive was a class skill for me...Heck, I'd take the Holy Schemer trait from Faiths of Balance if I could only justify wasting a feat on Additional Traits.)

One of us! One of us!

Yeah, seems like Sense Motive would be very handy in Ansha's line of work. With a no Wisdom bonus and it not being a class skill, though, I can certainly see why it would feel like a waste of skill points.

The trait Holy Schemer from FoB grants Sense Motive as a class skill, plus a +1 trait bonus to it. The bigger problem is that I'd have to waste a feat on Additional Traits, and I'm not sure what other trait I'd want to choose (Warrior of Old or Reactionary, Focused Mind, or Forlorn would all be possibilities)...But I'm not sure where I'd fit the feat in in my level progression.
Cosmopolitan fits the character. Even get some extra languages.
That would be an idea. I avoided it in favor of a re-flavored Hermean Blood feat at character creation (mainly because I didn't want to take the same starter feat Jakob had, even if there's a bit of overlap in the social skills department between the two), but maybe in the future.

Joana wrote:So you'd hate to kill any of us and waste all that lovely character development, right? :)That's my hope! It'd probably take forever (another 1000+ posts, anyway) to develop a follow-up character to the same depth. >_>
Yeah, and then we'd be in the middle of danger and lots of combats instead of a lovely two-week team-building sabbatical. We'd probably just end up with Stock Fighter #18 and Healbot Variation 5 if we had to bring in replacements....

We-ell, I'd say that you have the low elven fertility rate on your side, but it reminds me of the episode of Friends when Rachel finds out she's accidentally pregnant and explains that condoms are only effective 99 out of 100 times and Joey wails, "I can't beat those odds!"
As long as you stick with the maids rather than the valets, you ought to be okay ... but I suppose Ansha would get bored sticking exclusively with one gender for any extended period of time.

Of course, she just has to sit out for 9 months-to-2 years (depending on what version of D&D rules on elven pregnancies you're using) and then hand the child off to an orphanage. After that, it's back to what she was doing beforehand. It's not like she's a good mother. Or a good human being (elven being?).
On the other hand, 9 months is an awfully long time for someone who is wanderlust prone and impulsive. Two years is even longer...
And yes, Bachelor Snuff. Though I was thinking there was a similar substance that worked on females.

I think AK said he was planning on some kingdom-building in this game, which I assume would involve similar stretches of adventuring-downtime to deal with such personal issues as childbearing. (And he made us roll our PCs' birthdays, too, which implies we'll be at this a while, in-game time.)
Cannot picture Ansha pregnant, though. There has to be some kind of secret elven birth control, or she'd surely already have fallen prey to statistics. Or maybe she has left half-elven babies in scattered orphanages across the Inner Sea.

She probably has at least one child out there somewhere. I had toyed with the idea of having her end up pregnant by the man whose mistress she was in Crown's End, but hiding the pregnancy from him and then giving the child to an orphanage or something. That'd probably be kind of hard to hide though.

AK, did you see Jakob's reaction to the woman watching him earlier?
Jakob finishes his current task before turning to the woman. Does Jakob recognize her? Knowledge nobles 1d20+8. I am assuming divination was used for the day if I still have the bonus today please use it here.
Tebati's the only one not present for any of these scenes. Nothing to post. :P

Weird, I thought i'd replied to it. Working on it.

I was starting to wonder. I am glad Tebati has my back.
That said the post-monster was busy this weekend so you may well have replied.
random musing. Just finished season one of Telltale's Sam & Max. Prpbably best to keep Jakob away from sharp objects until the remaining Max works itself out of my system.

Greetings, young sir. A horse, young Jakob Mulle? Nay young Lord she replies, putting significant emphasis on the word, as though to remind Jakob of all that the word represented- that he now outranked his own family socially. I am here to discuss both your prospects as a bachelor of the city and to discuss your new land. Do you have a few hours to spare to leave the palace in my carriage? she asks impatiently.
Ooh, I smell a political marriage! Hope she has a hunchback and a hairy mole! :)

Joana |

The matriarch purses her lips in annoyance.
If you aren't aware, i'm a very busy woman with a lot to do and likely only a few years left in my weary body left to do it. I have suitable clothing in the carriage, Jakob, as a contingency. Follow me please.
Now she's getting even more disturbing. She carries around men's clothing in her carriage just in case? Creepy matchmaker lady....

Jakob Mulle |

[Jakob has just realized that he is going to be killed]
Jakob: [resignedly] Tell Qhude it wasn't personal, just business.
Ansha: He understands that.
Jakob: You couldn't let me off, could you, Ansha? For old time's sake?
Ansha: [matter-of-fact] Can't do it, Jakob.

Jakob Mulle |

Nothing wrong with having a hunchback! He could help with the bags. And we could always use a good mole.
Well more of a hamster really.
. ... and to discuss your new land.
What!?

I think that's the beginning of the "kingdom building elements," right there. ;P

Jakob Mulle |

Holy mother of Ted Turner's hairpeice! Real estate!
oh gods I have the feeling I'm going to have to do something crazy-noble again. The DM keeps giving me these big red buttons. Nothing right away though this needs to cook a while.

Ansha |

400 acres isn't even a hex in terms of kingdom building (I think? I absolutely hate acres and struggle to put them into metrics I understand sufficiently).
It's always boggled my mind that Britons prefer metric to their own Imperial system of measurement. XD
640 acres is a square mile, so if each hex is 12 miles as per Kingmaker...yeah, not even close to a hex.

Jakob Mulle |

What metrics do you prefer?
1.62 Square Kilometers?
That is slightly larger than the forbidden city and about 3 1/2 to 4 times the size of vatican city.
Hey anybody want a vatican city?
Hardly used.

Jakob Mulle |

Also, I am confused. I thought Jakob was already nobility before being bestowed the title of Lord. Presumably that would make his father or at least his family patriarch a lord, wouldn't it...?
I thought it was something like a baronetcy. Just a title that does not travel down the generations, but now I am not so sure. There seems to be land involved and the society matron/kidnapper/fashion consultant seems to be making dynastic noises.
I suppose asking someone what exactly this enobling gig entailed should have been higher up of my priorities.
I suppose kn:Nobles might apply here as well.

Qhude |

Oh I think she'd be a bit more concerned with the other area that Qhude would likely attack if he raged out and treated this as a real combat...

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

I see Jakob as an absolute bottom rung noble before being raised to Lord- before he would only have been a noble by virtue of his parents nobility (and even that is in decline); there are dime a dozen such nobles in the city.
That said, Utilinus is known to be fond of creating noble titles on the fly with no clear description as to their place in the hierarchy, to maintain confusion in his court.

An excellent tactic. Hmmmmm this gives me an idea...
