Your Humble Narrator

Yeah unless you have a moderate or worse addiction you still heal ability damage.

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

Gotcha - down to 1 Wisdom damage remaining.

Looks like N'bellocq and Qhude will be the first ones down to breakfast, with Kieran and the ladies taking a while with their preparations (unless Ansha flatly refuses to get out of bed until lunch). Where is Jakob going to slot in this morning? :)

Joana wrote:

This sounds like me IRL, some days. I'm figuring she's just going to terrify the help, calm down and recompose herself--then give everyone that looks at her funny an innocent look like "What?"

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

Oh boy - I'm sure the attendants will love that. Makes for a nice scene though.

Qhude still bloodied and dressed for war, Jakob hesitantly approaching the room unsure of what Qhude's intent is after the violent outburst the previous night. Air hanging thick enough to cut with a knife and.... N'bellocq clueless to the tension and instead tucking into the spread with gay abandon.

Male Human Haunted Nature Oracle 4 (Ac 20 Cmd 20 Will+4 Ref+2 Fort+4)

Gah.
Sorry for the wall of text.
Talking is just what Jakob does I guess. I just wish I was better at it.

Qhude is right I do seem to be channeling Rick. Maybe with time I can work my way up to Mike.

Your Humble Narrator

I thought it was a good speech don't beat yourself up :).

Thanks.

I guess i just don't have Jakobs style down yet. Meh if the party doesn't kill him I'll figure it out.

Funny this should turn out to be a stone structure. I was reading up on Undo Artifice and Erosion touch turns out a simple stone structure is the only easy non magical way to imprison an 11th level nature Oracle. hmnmnmmmm now I really wonder what is inside.

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

I hope Ansha doesn't feel too put out that Qhude has reverted to polyglot for the moment. It's part of his reversion back to basic Bas'o cultural instincts rather than any active reason to exclude her.

DM AK - just wondering on Level 2, is it still a little ways away?

Qhude wrote:

My guess is, that's what this two weeks of training is about. I imagine we'll level up after our crash course when the expedition is ready to leave.

Qhude wrote:

Honestly she's less put out that people speak in Polyglot as she's annoyed that she doesn't understand it (yet). She's the type who 1) loves languages, and 2) is nosy enough to want to hear and understand everything going on around her.

And I think Joana is correct that this is what the two weeks' training is about. I forget whether I asked him earlier in the ooc thread or via IM, but I asked how DM AK handled learning new languages and he said that we'd have a few weeks after the Trials and that that would constitute enough time for language-acquisition research, etc.

It was earlier in this thread. Here's the question, and here's the reply.

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

Aye - I realize that we're in training for a couple of weeks. But the question was more if the level up happens at the start of that or the conclusion.

Also, Qhude's Shopping List:
Masterwork upgrade to cestus: 300gp
Masterwork upgrade to armor: 150gp
2 x Cure Moderate Potions: 600gp
1 x Lesser Restoration Potion: 300gp
1 x Bandages of Rapid Recovery: 200gp
2 x Warpaint of the Terrible Visage: 200gp
1 x Ioun Torch: 75gp
Flayleaf: 10gp per dose: 7 doses = 70gp
Total Spend - 1895gp

Not sure if you're happy to have equipment upgrade or not DM AK, but if I need to re-buy the cestus and studded leather - it's only another 30 gp.

Pretty sure it will be the conclusion, realizing the culmination of our training. But AK may come in and contradict me.

I hate in-game shopping. Combination of indecision and always forgetting some small but very important item I'll wish I had later. :P

"No less than two thousand gold pieces" is a very confusing sum, imo. xD

Do I have to spend more than 2,000gp? :P

Darn rhetorical devices.

Your Humble Narrator

2,000 exactly.

You will level up at the end of the two weeks, bu we're not going to play them out day by day.

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

Oh boy are my attendants in for it.... I have to train up my Intimidate skill and justify Intimidating Glare and Savage Grapple :)

Are you sure I can't get them to sneak me out so I can get in some nice healthy pit-fighting? comment partially in jest

Your Humble Narrator

Sparring partners in the form of palace guards are available.

Edit: Qhude is pretty sure hes not meant to kill any of them...

DM Alexander Kilcoyne wrote:

I'l try really really hard, honest *puts on innocent looking smile*

Kieran - what about you? care for a spar or two with the big bruising Bas'o?

Male Human

Actually, it sounds like a good idea. :-)

Roleplaying-wise, I suppose it would make sense, since Kieran is a bit more fighter-oriented than your average rogue. Besides, considering their little... ahem... 'talk' at the gala, I would expect some uneasiness between them and what better way to deal with that than trying to kick each other's butts? Although Kieran will see it more like a game and practice than an actual fight; he does not really hold grudges all that well. Plus, he is probably going to lose going by Qhude's track so far. :-)

Mechanics-wise, 2nd level will be as a fighter, not as a rogue, so he might as well put some effort into sparring and athletics anyway. After all, he is going to be more duelist than thief.

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

Excellent good - I'll have something up a bit later in the game thread for Kieran to react to :)

Your Humble Narrator

As the question will be coming up very soon I imagine, in case I haven't already specified this we'll be using PFS style HP.

D12- 7HP
D10- 6HP
D8- 5HP
D6- 4HP
D4- Stop playing 3.5...

Are we confined to the palace grounds during this two-week period? Tebati would want to seek out a local shrine of Shimye-Magalla in the Ijo population for spiritual guidance. Not sure if we've got someone doing our shopping for us merely to free us up from mundane pursuits so we can focus on training or if they're purposely keeping us under watch so we can't spill the beans on the nature of the task.

Also, will anyone tell us if we're going to be traveling overland or going by water down the coast and up the river? Since we're traveling with an expedition, may we assume things like food and mundane supplies for the trip into the jungle will be provided, that is, we won't be "on our own" until we've reached the temple? Is there some kind of "base camp" they keep there for these failed expeditions where we'll be able to resupply on things like arrows?

Could IC all these questions and answers, but it would take more time and effort. :)

It hasn't specifically been said, but you notice over the course of the two weeks that there doesn't sem to be a way out of the palace that doen't have guards in the way who politely ask you if you are lost when you try and leave. Your not particularily kept under watch but its clear they want you in the palace; if pressed Morvius will allow you to leave but with a specific destination in mind and with an armed 'entourage'.

The trip will be overland. Food, drink, transport will all be provided as well as guides to reach the base camp at the temple. Currently, you need not worry about such things :P.

They will have some supplies at the temple like arrows, and possibly some stock you could purchase or barter for with anything you find in the temple; details on this are a little vague.

    Your Humble Narrator

There will be very little input from me until i'm sure everyone is ready to move on. A few minor things will happen over the course of the two weeks, but its mostly extra fluff.

    Fluff is fun!

Once Poor Wandering One checks in, Tebati wants to have a chat with Jakob. Then I'll be just about finished working her into the rest of the party, instead of having 3 pairs traveling alongside one another. N'bellocq is her cousin, she's sleeping with Kieran, has girl talk with Ansha, and feels some kind of spiritual obligation to Jakob due to his nature-oraclehood. Qhude ... well, he's Bas'o, and I don't know how she can forge a bond with him until she starts providing him with healing to keep him alive. Will follow up with the requested montage.

And the shopping. :P I'm indecisive enough when I'm just shopping for my own barbarian or something, but when I'm the cleric I feel the added responsibility of choosing wisely enough to keep the rest of the party alive.

Male Human (Ijo) Monk 4 (Zen Archer)

N'bellocq doesn't have anything too specific to buy beyond a MW bow, so he is willing to chip in on a healing wand.

Meh, you guys get what you need/want. As we can't "save" any of our leftover winnings, we might see about scraping together any change we have left, but I won't worry about it too much at this point. I don't see Tebati as an in-the-thick-of-melee cleric if she can avoid it, so I'm not going to get too invested in her gear. And Jakob gets cure lights, too.

I just hope no one outright dies. Breath of life is a lot of levels away. Don't know how big this dungeon is or how long we're liable to be away from civilization. If this were an AP, I'd totally be metagaming and assuming we'd have a break between levels 4 and 5. :)

Ak, have you considered having Nature oracles use the druid lists? Seems to fit them better and it would lessen overlap with Tebati.

Also can we do research over this two weeks? Skills like knowledge geography, nature, and history seem likely candidates and we might have the time to take 20. If we can is it cheesy for Jakob to use divination on these rolls? I just realized that given some time a nature Oracle can be a decent skill monkey though this tactic does carry the faint scent of Gouda.

    Thoughts?

Joana / Tebati - don't worry, Qhude will be seeking you out during his montage. Mainly to talk of Nantambu, Bas'o and swap some stories of nature and geography. I don't see Qhude as much of a book-learner, so word of mouth is a better fit.

Qhude is still searching for belonging, and Tebati has such a strong sense of herself in the world - so it's natural for him to be curious about it. Bas'o blood will still be in ascendant - especially in times of stress or battle, but he's open to start becoming a bit softer in approach.

You can do research but you won't have time to take 20- the majorituy of the two weeks is your level up. Its ok to use divination on the research rolls.

I haven't considered it but the bonus spells the Nature Oracle gets are very Druidic in themselves and I doubt there will be much overlap. I tend to play oracles and sorceror's as specialists.

You thinking of taking Bonded Mount at some point?

Cool I just saw the idea being discussed on the boards a bit ago so I thought I'd toss it out. I'm sure Tebati and I will work to keep enough space between us to remain distinctive.

    DM Alexander Kilcoyne wrote:

I am considering it but with the game moving to the exploration of a large dangerous multi-level habitation, i.e. a dungeon crawl. I do not see a horse/camel in Jakob's immediate future. Erosion touch or Friend to the Animals or Spirit of Nature are the current frontrunners for the revalation I gain next level. Might burn the third level feat for extra revalation but lightning reflexes looks awful tempting. Though i must admit I took ride and handle animial this level as kind of preparing the way.

A few vials of anti-plague/anti-toxin might be more useful than one dose of restoration. We can always hole up and wait for healing and long term care to heal ability damage but some of those jungle diseases have nasty dc's. My thoughts anyway.

No problems DM AK - had asked the question earlier but didn't get a confirmation one way or another.

    Cestus 5gp new

So need to make up 15gp to cover 'selling' the old and buying the new masterwork ones. Qhude had 28 gp left after character creation, so can come out of there without affecting overall spending.
