Sarrah is along for the ride until something happens...
Taking my Master's degree examination today. Will update later today.

Thanks! I found out that I passed my multiple-choice portion. Now to wait two weeks for my written portion to be graded. Not feeling very patient right now! :)
You move further down the hallway and try the next door. This spacious room smells of mildew and rot. A long desk and chair sit to the south, while to the northwest a narrow alcove contains a closed safe. Thick layers of dust cover everything in sight.

"A safe eh? Anyone good at picking locks...at least I assume it is locked."
Female Human Varisian Oracle - Life - 2nd (FC)
Morven could try his lock pick set?
Sarrah says with more than just a little sarcasm in her voice.
"Now, now. Let's have less of that squabbling and concentrate on the task at hand", Quiddling says as he pokes around in his slingbag. Finally he produces a set of lockpicks. "I admit i'm more of a hobbyist than a professional but i'm willing to give it a try", the halfing says with a smile as he strides into the room and get's to work on the safe. unless something spooky happens....

My lockpick set has a 100% success rate so far... Lets see how short stuff does.
Quiddling fails to open the safe. Disable Device DC 30 on that one.

"I thought locks were no problem for all you transmuters," Corinne comments, with a quick mimic of the somatic component of the knock spell. "Far beyond me, I'm afraid; not my specialty. Looks like we'll have to find the actual key if we hope to open the safe."

I am close to mastering such a spell- the prison isn't going anywhere so once i've managed to pull it off we'll come back and open this with it. Breaking it open may risk damaging any delicates inside... what about the triangular key in the iron chest back at the Lorrimor's place we took? Worth a try in the lock...
If this key doesn't work, move on and we'll make a note of unlocking it once I hit level 3.
"I'm afraid that this lock is beyond me", Quiddling sighs after the lock refuses to budge for the third time. "Corrine is right, i don't see a way to open the safe without the actual key. Although you are free to try and pry it open", he adds and looks at Morven with hopeful eyes.

Is the safe attached to anything. Could we just take the whole thing? If not Stannis continues to the next door.
The safe is in the wall, but there's nothing stopping you from prying it out of the drywall. Or whatever passes for drywall in Golarion.

This from the paladin who had a problem with us taking supplies from the crypt? But you're okay with prying the safe out of the wall? ;)
...so do you guys actually want to dig it out of the wall? It is doable, if time-consuming.
Female Human Wizard (conjuration) 2
"I vote we leave the thing here. One can't run for one's life carrying a safe. Assuming we make it out of here in one piece, I don't think anyone else is going to carry it away before we can."
Yeah, i'm having a hard time imagineing carrying around a safe and still continue as usual. unless it's pocketsized. Onward to the next door!

This from the paladin who had a problem with us taking supplies from the crypt? But you're okay with prying the safe out of the wall? ;) Well I was more asking the question than presenting a course of action. We think of safes as ginormous metal things but thats more of a modern concept. Plus Stannis draws a distinction between stuff sitting on church property and things remaining in a ruin. Similarly he is not going to be agitating for the group to try and find the descendants of the original owners for any loot we find and give it back to them.
Lets go. Stannis takes the lead as normal.
Mucho mucho apologies for the slowness. My laptop decided that my Microsoft startup routine was corrupted, so Geek Squad is currently extracting my data so I can reload my OS. Not happy about it, but c'est la vie.
Leaving the office, you check the door just north to find a small washroom and privy. Besides a sink and a hole in the floor, there is little of interest in this room. Moving carefully back down the hallway, you come again to the foyer.
North or east?

"Whatever it is it's quite unnerving", Quiddling says while fingering nervously on the hilt of his rapier as he scampers behind Stannislav. "Perhaps one of those bursts of yours can settle them?", the halfing says to Sarrah.
M Human Paladin 2 (Undead Scourge)
Stannis smells the air but doesn't seem to notice the burning. Theres little in this place left to burn. It must be more spirits. He seems more determined as you proceed.
Female Human Varisian Oracle - Life - 2nd (FC)
I don't know for sure but my that would be my guess as well, until I see something more substancial I want to save the powers granted to me by Pharasma. Unfortunately, I only have a limited number of uses per day.

Sorry I must have lost my dot on this one in the last steaming pile of server fail.
"Oh, i didn't know that. But i guess it makes sense. There are few unlimited power sources of note in this world", Quiddling replies to Sarrah as he waits for Stannislav to reach the northen door.
Stannis moves to the northern door of the foyer and places his gauntlet on the handle.

Hmph... An illusion perhaps? Morven says, casting Detect Magic and concentrating on the door.
Kno: Arcana-
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Morven detects a faint aura of illusion, centered on the door handle.

With all of the uncertainty, Sarrah readies an action to call upon Pharasma's divine wrath to smite any undead in the area if anything else strange ocurs still waiting for Stannis to yell out in pain...
M Human Paladin 2 (Undead Scourge)
Inclined to take the direct approach, Stannis is halfway to putting his shoulder to the door before he hears Morven's words and halts in place.
There is nothing wrong. I am fine.

It is merely an illusion; save your energy. A silent image spell to be precise. Lets move on, if you would care to open the door.
M Human Paladin 2 (Undead Scourge)
Stannis does so, falchion in one hand.
"Can you make it stop?", Quiddling asks pleadingly while trying to avoid looking at Stannis. "This is quite an unnerving sight"
Female Human Wizard (conjuration) 2
Even with Morven's assurance that the sight is an illusion, Corinne cannot bring herself to look directly at Stannis and the door. "If we cannot trust our own senses," she whimpers, "how will we distinguish danger in this haunted place?"
M Human Paladin 2 (Undead Scourge)
One door at a time, Stannis says firmly. The others nerves seems to feed his own confidence.
Having overcome the illusion, Stannis opens the door. A spear of light illuminates a dark hallway, lined with doors.
