"Onwards then, i guess", Quiddling says trying his best to sound resolute but his voice quivers putting and end to his deception. His eyes dart all over the corridor doing their best to steer clear of Stannislav.

How long does the silent image last?


For reference, from the SRD: A successful saving throw against an illusion reveals it to be false, but a figment or phantasm remains as a translucent outline.

It disappears entirely as soon as Stannis opens the door.

You try the door on your right and see a flight of stone stairs. This flight of stairs once led down toward what must be a lower level, but it’s now filled with a mess of large stone blocks and shattered timbers.

You continue down the northern hallway and try the next door on your right. This one opens to a clear stairway leading to the second floor.

You open the last door on the right, opening it to reveal one once might have been a broom closet. Nothing of interest remains.

At the last door "This hallway likely joins up with the first," Corinne says softly, flicking a nervous finger toward the west. "Ought we to see what is down it before we open the door to some other section?"

Stannis nods, leading the way.


Treading slowly and carefully, you make your was in a circuitous fashion through the dark hallways. Eddies swirl in the thick dust as you pass and shadows at the corner of your vision dance and dart. You discover several more doors, as well as completely circle two rooms in the middle of the first floor.

"Which door shall we try?" Corinne asks nervously. She doesn't seem to be any too anxious to be the one to touch any doorknobs.

Stannis tightens his grip on his falchion and exhales slowly before trying the left door.


This chamber is in a shambles — old wooden benches lie in ruins along the walls, while rusty chains and bits of rotten rope lie scattered on the floor.

You hear a faint sobbing and the clanking rattle of chains, while at the same time being filled with a momentary sensation of hopelessness and the strange feeling of heavy manacles clamping over your wrists.

These sensations pass quickly, but as soon as they do, one pair of manacles rises from the floor and flies toward Stannis.

Stannis is quick to react, adrenalin surging through his muscles he has no time to question whether this is another illusion. He snaps into Storm Stance lashing out with his falchion in a single vertical slash.

Falchion 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 9 - 1 = 26 (power attk)
2d4 + 9 ⇒ (1, 3) + 9 = 13

If the manacles are still a threat by Morven's initiative, he will amble over and add his falchion to the melee in a much simpler and less skillful manner than Stannislav- nearly stabbing Stannis in the back with an inept lunge.

Quiddling looks glances into the room just in time to see the animated manacles fling themselves toward Stannislav. If they're still in action after the paladins assault Quiddling dashes into the room to look for soemthing blunt to strike the manacles out of the air, or perhaps a bucket to trap them.

Acrobatics roll: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Double move into the room, should place me 2 squares to the left of Stannis.
Perception roll (if required): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

Sarrah will start to delay, wondering how a pair of manacles could hurt one of the large men, perhaps other than bruise him...


With a mighty swing, Stannis cuts the flying manacles in half. It falls listlessly to the ground and stays still.

Quiddling cautiously moves up to the manacles lying still on the ground and carefully prods them with a dagger he produced from somewhere inside his coat. "What do we attribute this to? Spirits, illusions or something else?"

This place must be cleansed of the restless spirits. Pharasma has brought us together for this purpose. They will fight us each step of the way.

I would imagine that the evils in here will be enough to stain our souls for a long time, but we will make the world better for it...

Nodding at Sarrah's words and checking his sword carefully for burrs, Stannis moves on to the next door.


The door to this room has fallen from its hinges. The rectangular chamber beyond seems to have once been a chapel, but now thick sheets of what appear to be cobwebs drape everything within in gossamer threads.

With a hiss, several large spiders emerge from their web funnels.

Again reacting quickly, Stannis moves from the protection of the doorway into the room, taking up position between the two nearest spiders and moving into Lion Stance, a form designed for use against multiple foes. He strikes at the bottom right spider.

Falchion 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 162d4 + 9 ⇒ (4, 3) + 9 = 16


Stannis slices the bottom right spider neatly in half, bright orange gore and viscera trailing from his blade.

Corinne gasps as Stannis steps into action against whatever's in the room. "Nethys preserve us! What's in there?" She steps back against the opposite wall move to just north of Theodric so she will have a good view of anything rushing out of the doorway to attack.

Ready an acid splash on anything not a party member that comes out the door: ranged touch attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 damage 1d3 ⇒ 2

I'm abit unsure how far i can move so my post might not correspond to actual possible events

The animated manacles are still occupying Quiddling's attention as he abcent minded steps into the room after Stannis. The halfling snaps back into reality as the paladin draws his blade and rams it through one of the spiders. Quiddling quickly draws a dagger and hurls it towards the closest spider, more as a reflex than a conscious choice.

Move action to go into the room (and draw a dagger in the process)
Standard action to hurl the dagger at the closest spider: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Damage roll: 1d3 ⇒ 1

Oh, crit confirm: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Damage roll: 1d3 ⇒ 1

Stannis cleaves a spider in two, while Corinne and Quiddling mildly wound two others.

The remaining four spiders swarm onto Stannis.

There is enough room for other party members to enter the room and attack.

Fortified by his supernatural resistance to physical injury, Stannis shrugs off the spiders poison.

Do I get an AOO or are all four in the squares in front of me? Here is one if so.

Theodric smashes one of the spiders like a pastry filled with viscous, orange filling.

Morven hurls himself into the fray, laughing maniacally with bloodlust in his eyes.

Sarrah casts resistance and moves up behind Stannis and touches him in case the spiders venom effects him.
+1 Resistance Bonus to all saves for 1 minute for Stannis. Tries to position herself to be away from any spiders if possible...


Morven hacks the legs out from under one of the spiders, then finishes with an overhand chop slicing it in two. Sarrah bolsters Morven with a spell.

Spider 2 is gone. Stannis is up again.

Stannis cuts out at another of the adjacent arachnids.

One adjacent to someone else if possible.

Round 2
Quiddling is startled as Morven comes running past him and throwing himself into the fray. This style of fighting was not for him, nor was fighting really for him either. But subterfuge or conversation was not going to end this fight. The little halfing draws a deep breath before drawing his rapier and following Morven.

Move action to move adjacent (and draw my rapier) to one of the spiders:
Standard action to attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Damage roll: 1d4 ⇒ 2


Another spider falls to Stannis' assault. Quiddling misses at the last moment as the arachnid skitters to the side.

Spider 3 is dead. Only one left with Corinne up.

With Stannis, Morven and Quiddling all in melee around the doorway, I'm fairly certain Corinne doesn't have a clear shot at the spider unless it's in the hallway. Assuming it's not immediately threatening her, she will delay.


Being a mindless beast, the spider knows no fear!

Spider 4 attacks Stannis.
Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Damage 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Same as before with poison.

Round 3 (we're on a new round, right?)
Although Quiddling will only admit it in his later years (statment will be allegeable for retcon should Quiddling not survive the adventures to come) the spider's long hairy legs and black eyes has shaken the halfing deep in his core. Unable to both strike the spider and to try and avoid the pools of spilled spidermatter, his attacks are ill timed and ineffective. As he manages to hit the spider he's aversion to step closer to the spider inhibits him to push his blade into the arachnid, instead leaving only shallow marks.

If possible i'd like to make a move action to go into a flanking position against the spider
Acrobatics check to avoid AoO: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Standard action to attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 (+2 in the event of a flank)
Damage roll: 1d4 ⇒ 1 (sneak attack damage if i get a flank: 1d6 ⇒ 1 in the event of a flank)


Morven and Quiddling finish off the last spider.

Huzzah and excelsior! 150xp each.

Once again, Harrowstone prison is quiet and still.
