The Old Recruitment Thread is here.

Profile is updated to match the preferred format, I've also completely re-done gear using the max gold method, rather than the background/class method I used previously - which also allows me to switch to Umberlee's favoured weapon, rather than the generic warhammer.

Looks good, I have updated your judging score to reflect the changes.

The only math discrepancy I can see is the total slots used looks to be 26. Coin 1, Armor 10, Weapon 5, Readied 4, Stored 6

We have a solid core group of applicants coming together nicely.

Thanks again for taking the time to submit a quality application/character.

Just showing im still here. Will be able to make my char tomorrow. So hope to submit by the evening =^^=

If you want, i can submit a few non-crunch things so long

Form Fill-able Slot Encumbrance Tracking Sheet

Example of a filled out tracking sheet.

Blank Form-Fill-able Sheet

I will update upon my return from vacation, Thursday.

Dotting the thread, I'll fix the encumberance thing. I actually just equipped the character from the starting items, I'll go back and remove/replace stuff and use max gold instead.

Sounds good everyone, just let be know when you are ready to be re-judged or if you are submitting a new character just let me know when he/she is ready.

Looking forward to it.

If there's still room I'd like to throw my hat in. Perhaps with a human beastmaster ranger and her (future) giant badger companion

The game will be open to applicants up till August 8th. Feel free to apply.

Dotting. I love seeing another 5e game pop up here. I'll be creating a character in the next couple of days. As soon as I'm done I'll submit him/her for judging.

@DM Asmodeus: This application of Ragar is now complete, formatted accordingly, and ready for review and scoring.

DM Asmodeus:
I will attempt to also submit a complete application for a Halfling or Elven Monk within the next two days, per our IM conversation.

I have updated your scores. Click Here! to view applicant scores.

The Slot Encumbrance is off, I redid the math and figures for you. You might want to make a slight adjustment as you are encumbered at the moment. (-10 Speed)

Ragar Encumbrance:

Total Inventory Slots:
Unencumbered: Strength (17) x 1.5 (Round Down) = 25 max.
Encumbered: Strength (17) x 3 (Round Down) = 51 max.
Heavily Encumbered: Strength (17) x 4.5 (Round Down) = 76 max.
Slots Used: 27 (1 Coin, 4 Armor, 5 Weapon, 1 Readied, 16 Stored)
Status: Encumbered
Penalty: - 10' Speed

Coins & Gems: 1 Slots Used
PP:
GP: 47
EP:
SP: 5
CP:

Armor Slots: 4 Slots Used
Chain Shirt (4)

Weapon Slots: 5 Slots Used
(Maximum of 6)
Greataxe (2)
3 Handaxes (3)

Readied Item Slots: 1 Slots Used
(Maximum of 4)
Potion of Healing (1/5) (1)
Bear Claw on Leather Thong Around Neck (0)

Stored Item Slots: 16 Slots Used
tinderbox (1/5), mess kit (1/5) (1)
10 torches (10/5) (2)
10 days rations (10/5) (2)
waterskin (1)
Bedrooll (2)
50' Hempen Rope (2)
Traveler's Clothes Made of Buckskin (1)
Hunting Trap (5)

I do not understand how I am encumbered at 22, when my max is 25 before encumberance? I am making more room through the use of a backpack...that equals 1, and it holds up to 6. Are you suggesting that the items need to be counted individually even if in a pack. What is the benefit of a pack, and how else would you store the items without one?

Look at my post above, in the spoiler tag, you are at 27, not at 22. (27 (1 Coin, 4 Armor, 5 Weapon, 1 Readied, 16 Stored) )

Sorry...just revised to specify the question...you do not show the backpack.

Ragar, first off thank you for clarifying the question.

First. In the slot encumbrance system, containers such as backpacks, pouches and sacks are assumed and do not need to be purchased or tracked. Thus the reason I removed them.

Second. Just because you put items in a container it does not make them less heavy. If that was the case them I could carry a virtual unlimited amount of stuff in sacks, backpacks and pouches. The slots are based on your strength (Total items you can carry.) Each slot is roughly 5 pounds of weight and/or a item that weighs less but is awkwardly shaped or bulky to store. The containers are not tracked or added against this total.

The readied item slots are assumed to be in pouches for quick use. Stored items are considered to be in a backpack, sack or strapped to your person or pack in some manner.

Now I do allow for up to six slots worth of items to be noted as in the main backpack which can be dropped if need be quickly. You can mark this with a * if you like.

Understand how it works now? If you have further questions then please let me know.

Thank you for the explanation. I understand completely. I have changed the inventory to reflect a total of 21=unencumbered.

Perfect....

If I wanted to update the backstory...where exactly in the Realms does the AP start out? I did not notice that in the Players Guide.

The AP starts out in the village of Red Larch on the Sword Cost. Look in the campaign tab for more information on the area and for maps.

Still working on everything...I'll have it ready by the weekend.

Thanks for keeping us updated.

Hello again from Miklos. Meet Vaneros Anteri, a Warlock bound to hell but unwilling to just let go of his life and soul.

The Alias is still incomplete, but will grew over the next couple of days. Just wanted you to know what I'm working on. Hope you like what I did so far and please let me know if you have suggestions to improve him further.

I would like to submit Narnel as an applicant. He is a Male Elf Hermit Monk.

DM Asmodeus:
I have not entered a Back Story for Narnel because I would like to tie in his Discovery under the Hermit Background. I need to know your thoughts. I am planning on making him part of a Monastery of Ilmater hidden deep in the Westwood. His Discovery of the necessity of balance among the four elements drives him to seek the same out in society. It will eventually lead him on the path of The Way of The Four Elements. However, I was thinking that the Discovery could specifically involve knowledge of the four elemental sources of power in terms of their strengths and weakness, sort of like waiving a knowledge roll for him when elemental creatures are encountered. Thoughts?

Narnel Falerathon wrote:

Narnel Falerathon:

Due to game balance in 5e, I could not let the "Discovery" dictate an automatic knowledge roll being hand waved. It is just to much mechanically to get from a background choice while other players get nothing extra for theirs. However for story and flavor wise we can do much with it.

What I can do is as a once per day per level feature you can detect the presence of a creature from an elemental plane within 60'. (See the detect evil and good spell as it will work the same way.) Please note this on your sheet.

Also I can give you a game tie-in because of the background.

Dark Omens
The signs and portents are clear: nature is out of balance. Terrible disaster is drawing closer with every passing day. To restore the balance of nature, you must seek out and destroy the four elemental nodes. In the nearby vicinity of Red Larch You will earn inspiration for each portal the party closes.

Also let me know when you have everything finished. I will wait until then to judge your application.

Dm Asmodeus:

Since according to my character's backstory I have fallen from grace with my father and prosumably my family and aristocracy as a whole, I'd like to change the special feature from my background around a bit. For a Noble this normally is Position of Priviledge (PHB135). I'd like to change that to something along the lines of "Hell provides for its own". So wherever I stop, I'd be able to somehow aquire lodgings, a warm meal, a bed to sleep in, maybe a set of simple clean cloths after I ruined my own. To everyone else it would just seem like pure coincidence or luck, but I'd know where it came from.

Let me know what you think.

Vaneros Anteri:

I don't see where it would hurt to change the flavor as long as the mechanic stays the same. However you will have to leave it to me to interweave such things into the story. However what does concern me is the entire hell thing. One of the rules of character creation is no evil alignments, so I need you to explain in detail what his true motives are in the context of this situation. Also why would he help a group of adventurers defeat Elemental Evil? or even a group of bandits for that matter. Why is he headed to Red Larch?

Basically he is going to need some heavy motivation to explain his connection with hell. Might want to pepper it with a "Constantine" type of vibe. Maybe he had no choice but to make the pact in order to do a greater good and now he tries to use that contract to do as much good as possible even if it is with the powers of hell, before the time is up and the forces of hell try to cash in on that contract.

That ought to give you plenty of ideas to play with. I look forward to how to end up explaining this.

Here is a idea if you wanted it to tie directly into the adventure.

Seeking Revenge
Fire cultists torched the character’s home and killed both your parents and raised the defenseless village that was your home. The only way you survived the assault is by signing the contract with hell itself which healed your wounds and gave you access to some powerful magics. Your character is sworn to stop them and get revenge on the fire cult. You have tracked them so far to an area close to Red Larch. You only hope you can defeat them before the devils cash in your soul.

Or you can work a combination of the above. I leave it up to you.

DM Asmodeus:
Thanks a lot for the suggestions. I have my Backstory written down so far, but as you said, motivation might need some tweaking.

No worries, Vaneros isn't evil. He made a pact with hell, but he is trying to either find a loophole or at least use his powers to make the best out of the time he has left.

I have updated Narnel accordingly, and his application is ready for review and scoring.

Please re-examine the Back Story of Ragar, as it has been updated to reflect the current location in the Realms. Thanks.

Scores for both Narnel Falerathon and ragar "Two-Fisted" Coughlin have been posted and updated. You can view the scores by Clicking Here!

Also to note on Ragar's backstory, the orcs that took your mother and that you are descendant from however not voluntarily is a tribe of orcs calling themselves the "Iceshield Orcs".

Thank you - updated accordingly.

I reconsidered, I would like to enter a druid. Aiming for moon circle.

GM. I think Zatqualmie is ready!

Ready to be Re-Judged :) I've worked on my appearance, personality and backstory sections. :)

I roll for my trinket on the Elemental Evil Trinket Table: Trinket: 1d100 ⇒ 16

I too roll for a trinket on the Elemental Evil Table.

Trinket: 1d100 ⇒ 3

Trinket on EE Table.

Trinket: 1d100 ⇒ 89

I think i'm done with everything now. Hopefully I didn't forget anythiong, since making 5e characters is still a bit new to me and i had to skip back and fourth all the time to make informed decisions.

All set and done! I'm submitting Vaneros for reviewing and scoring. Please let me know if you find any errors or if you have any suggestions.

First of all a few tweaks, in your equipment the Slot system does not track containers such as backpack, pouches, etc so there is no need to list them. The staff should be listed in the Readied Weapon Slots unless you don't intend to have it readied. I also see 12 slots used and not 11 (Coin 1, Armor 3, Weapons 2, Readied 1, Stored 5) Total = 12.

As far as the mule goes, you need to do an inventory slot count for it on your alias. It is considered large size as far as carrying capacity goes so the slots are doubled. It also has four legs so its speed is never slowed by what it carries. Use its strength of 14 to figure what it can carry, add the weight of the pack saddle (3) and gear it is carrying.

Let me know when the corrections have been made and I will re-judge your character again.

Alright, some corrections to the slot system needs to be made on your inventory. There is no fractions of a slot used in a section (always round up). So like under your weapons it would not be 1.4 slots it would just round up to 2. Same with yor stored equipment. You have used a total of 13 slots (Coin 1, Armor 4, Weapons 2, Readied 0, Stored 6) Which currently puts you at the encumbered stage. You can either leave it or readjust.

Let me know when the corrections have been made and I will re-judge your character again.

Hello everyone!

Thank you so much to everyone who has applied so far. I've been following the discussions that have been going on and I'm super excited to see both new faces and veterans alike coming together to create what looks like a fantastic selection of characters.

I've had a couple of people ask me "Is this enough?" or "Should I add more?" about their applications. My official ruling on this is as follows: Your character is not complete until I close applications at midnight on August 8th. Until then, you may add as much or as little as you want. If you feel that your character is complete, then you aren't required make any changes to it. If you have made enough changes that you feel it warrants a re-judging you may request one.

Until then, you're welcome to ask others for feedback on your application or continue adding. More is actually more, so do whatever you feel comfortable with for your character. If two paragraphs sums up your character, great! If it takes ten paragraphs, also great! Length will not affect your scores unless it's too short for me to get a good idea of who your character is. I recommend at least one paragraph minimum (3 to 7 complete sentences) for Appearance and Personality, and then at least two paragraphs for backstory.

How your character will be graded can be found in the Application Judging Criteria, also found by clicking here: Click Me! I will be adhering to these criteria strictly.

Thanks again, and good job so far everyone!

How do we find the EE Trinket Table to see what we rolled?
