Background:
Outlander You grew up in the wilds, far from civilization and the comforts of town and technology. You’ve witnessed the migration of herds larger than forests, survived weather more extreme than any city-dweller could comprehend, and enjoyed the solitude of being the only thinking creature for miles in any direction. The wilds are in your blood, whether you were a nomad, an explorer, a recluse, a hunter-gatherer, or even a marauder. Even in places where you don’t know the specific features of the terrain, you know the ways of the wild. Personal Characteristics:
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Personality: I embody my mistress in many ways, I am quick to anger and do not suffer fools, though my anger does not often flare for long, my nature is too changeable for that. Those who get to know my describe my moods as a roller-coaster, I can switch between flirtatious, to anger to sadness in but moments.
Appearance: Laial stands 5'10, she has a slender, waifish appearance with arms and legs that seem just touch too long for her body, though the ring mail she usually wears, with all it's padding bulks her out a little.
Ideal Change. Life is like the seasons, in constant change, and we must change with it. Bond I suffer awful visions of a coming disaster and will do anything to prevent it. Flaw I am slow to trust Trinket 34: A small pocket mirror that slowly fogs over when held.
Back Story:
Laial was born to a simple fisherman and his wife, in Athkatla, both human, though the signs of her being something other were apparent from a young age. Her parents loved her as best they could, though she was a quiet, sullen child - slow to speak, as if she considered it unnecessary to interact with others. Rumours circulated about this strange child of all the kinds that simple folk say to explain what they don't understand. Perhaps her father made a bargain with the spirits of the sea, or his wife lay with a Sea-Demon while her husband was away. For Laial's part, she kept away from children her age, the sea called her, she could hear it speaking to her on a primal level that needed not the stricture of words, eventually washed up on shore as she explored the beaches, she found a curious trinket, a copper symbol of crashing waves, turned mostly blue from it's time in the water. She bought a chain for it and took to wearing it, unknowing of it's origins until a travelling Priest of the B$*%~-Queen took her aside and told her all the stories. It wasn't a true apprenticeship by any means, but Laial would spend every moment she could listening to this woman speak of the glory and chaos of the oceans, the mercurial nature of the sea, how to appease her and live off of her bounties... but eventually she moved on, travelling to another community, the Prists of Umberlee are as shifting as the goddess herself and cannot abide to wait too long in one place. The following day Laial set off on her own, she didn't intend to pass herself off as a priest, but seeing the symbol on her neck and that she was touched by the gods was enough, they offered her payment and sacrifice to accompany them on ships and it seemed to be enough, she found she could actually work miracles in Umberlee's name. She continued as such, passing from ship to ship, or wandering the coastlines as she wished, listening to he lap of the waves and the shifting of the winds to help her decide where to travel next. However now she feels something that she has not before, a call to travel inland, her mistress has never spoken words of demand to her, but something pulls her in with a sense of unease and disgust. She feels that something is abusing power that should belong to her mistress, and she intends to find just what it is, so she heads beyond the sight of the sea. |
