Background:

Noble
I was born the only son of Magister Venacourt Anteri, a Master Wizard and Scholar in Waterdeep. Through my own doing I lost everything my family name once provided: respect, wealth, a father. Now my Godfather, the Devil Ixerazhou, cares for me. Hell provides for its own and I have never suffered hunger or cold since I signed on to hell.

Personal Characteristics:

Alignment: Neutral - I’m torn between my old ways (CN), my father’s ways (LN), my mother (NG) and my Godfather (LE) and today, which way I’ll follow isn’t decided yet.

Personality: If my father ever told me one thing, it was to always look respectable. To him, a set of fine clean cloths, a friendly, yet not too friendly, face and never loosing composure were mandatory for anything you do in life. Or as I call it: never let anyone see your true face. For my whole youth I was trapped in a golden cage with rules and strict daily routines. I thought it was hell (ironical, isn’t it?). I learned fencing, practiced my emerging magical abilities and learned how to speak with nobles and down to peasants. Looking back to it now, my father only wanted the best for me, but failed utterly.
The one thing he could never get out of me was my longing to simply enjoy myself and not care about tomorrow. To this date I seldom pass a good drink and I just can't resist the thrills of a night of drinking, singing, dancing and fine companionship. I was a spoiled child that threw his father’s riches out of the window for prostitutes, drugs and gambling. My mother… no, let’s keep her out of this. It’s complicated, really. To make things short: I was useless and sometimes I still am today. The only thing that could ever hold my interest longer than a few seconds is magic. Not learning about magic, using magic! The power of a spell flowing through you, I can’t even begin to describe how incredible it feels!
So I made a bad choice and signed my soul away to the depths of hell to bypass all the learning and studying and get right down to business. Really, I didn’t even read the damn contract! I do those kinds of things; make bad choices in a split-second. But this one really stands out and interestingly enough, it changed me. For the first time in life I felt like I had made a mistake. A real mistake. Something so bad, it could never be fixed. I tell myself I can’t go back home because of how my father would react or how it could hurt my family. In truth, with what I’ve done, I can’t let my father or … mother … see me that way.
So yes, I’m a broken man. I know I’ve lost everything, threw it away in the blink of an eye. But as my father told me, I wear a mask every day. It’s a little different than his. The grin is much more friendly and the cloths are less expensive, but I still won’t let anyone see my true self. To the world, I’m a cynical, witty and charming rogue that does good for the promise of a great feast and the kisses of young maidens. To me, I’m a fool that hopes to undo the only real mistake he ever made.

Appearance: Before you stands a lean, dark-skinned man in fine, yet practicable traveller’s cloths. He has eyes the colour of embers and a neatly trimmed black goatee. His dark top hair is kept short at about three fingers length and is hidden under his hood. You notice two daggers strapped to his belt. In his hands he holds a finely ornamented wooden staff. On closer observation it looks as if the adornments were burned into the pale wood. Sometimes you seem to glimpse a faint red glow between the coat and the shirt, but you're never really sure if it was really there.

Ideal While once driven by power, I see now where that path leads you. You only see what's important once it is gone. For me, that's freedom and independence and I'll try everything I can to regain both and help others avoiding the same mistakes I made.

Bond On every step I make, hell follows me. My soul is forfeit and my Godfather makes damn sure to rub my face into it. My powers come with a price and using them brings me one step closer to fulfilling my end of the bargain I made.

Flaw I am a truly scandalous secret that could ruin my family forever. And while my relationship with my father is more than complicated, I don't want to ruin him and his name. I will never return home, nor reveal my true identity to anyone that would use it against my father.

Trinket On my journeys I came upon a deep blue piece of flint, that when struck with steel produces not a spark but a drop of water. While I have yet to figure out what its real purpose is, I have kept this curious little thing ever since. (Elemental Evil Trinket 16)
I also still carry the contract with Ixerazhou I signed years ago. No element can harm it and it appears to be weightless when kept in a scroll case. But as soon as I touch its letters, the weight of a whole lifetime seems to be on my shoulders. I have to this date not figured out a way to escape its many intertwined clauses.

Back Story:

The Name is Vaneros Anteri. The only son of Magister Venacourt Anteri, Master Wizard and Scholar. And if it was up to him, I'd have followed in his footsteps. He even got me into one of Waterdeeps Circles. But frankly, I DID'T CARE! I didn't have the aptitude needed for becoming a wizard. I like the thrills of magic, not studying books for hours at a time only to understand how magic would work if you were allowed to even try to perform it!
And well, that's where Ivir comes into play. He was the little Imp of our headmistress. An eloquent liar and master of deception (I mean Ivir, well, maybe both). To make a long story short, he got me interested in a little shortcut to the three things I wanted most: money, power and women. The only thing I had to do was sign away my soul! And hey, what do you do with that anyway, right?
With Ivir's help I slipped into the chamber of binding and met Ixerazhou (or however you pronounce that properly!). He was a powerful Devil as far as I understand it and Ivir's true master, bound to the circle's grounds for more than a century. We brokered a deal and hell, by the time I thought I was really clever! I'd free him and he'd grant me power, be my patron for magic. That and about twenty more pages filled with legal nonsense and annotations. To tell you the truth: I didn't really read the contract. The offer sounded just too good and it would drive my old man mad as soon as he found out! I was seventeen you know? You don't make smart choices when you're seventeen!
Since the Headmistress wouldn't take it kindly that I freed her toy devil, I took my leave before the sun came up. I skipped town and tried to lay low. Turns out, hell provides for his own. I had a roof over my head every night and a warm bed, sometimes with company too! And my new powers? Just awesome! In weeks I'd learned more than I did in years at the Circle!
Well, that was some time ago now. Seems like forever. After I had my share of fun I really did read that contract finally. Yeah. Guess I won't be having the last laugh.
Anyways, about my powers and Ixerazhou. He doesn't just speak to me. He is there. Always. Sometimes quietly listening, sometimes talking with a million voices. You really don't get used to it, believe me. The only thing that's shutting him up is being drunk. And I mean really, really drunk! The type where your head is spinning so fast, you have to cling to the floor to not fall over again!
During twilight our bond is strongest. It's as if he touches my body. A sensation of molten steel slowly flowing over my skin, leaving behind eldritch runes. That's how he teaches me. Never thought I'd miss the circle's methods.
So yeah, that's me: a dandy, a liar, a fool and a smartass. All bundled into one, on a quest to live life while it lasts and maybe find some loophole in a contract straight out of hell!
But for tonight, finding a place to sleep in the small town of Red Larch is all I want. Well, truth be told, I didn’t choose Red Larch out of coincidence. Berren, a friend of the family who provides me with news from home regularly lives here and he has grown silent lately. Last we met he was chasing rumours about a cult of fire and I fear he might have found more trouble than he was looking for. Berren stood to me when no one else would and I’d risk anything for him. On a side note: Ixerazhou really wants me away from here. Just another sign I’m just in the right place. Something is brewing.

Faction Information:

None.

Notes:

About the Symbol we saw in the Necromancer's lair, the priest Lymmura told us: That is the symbol of the Elder Elemental Eye. I don't know much about it but it pertained to a cult long ago. As it is taught to us as part of history, the Cult of the Elder Elemental Eye was dedicated to bringing the evil god Tharizdun, an interloper god from the Oerth universe who was imprisoned in the Abyss, into Faerûn. The cult was related to the Church of All Tomorrows, an Oghman heresy that believed its followers should be able to foresee the future. Worshipers of the Elder Elemental Eye envision a future where the world has been consumed utterly by elemental chaos, floods, earthquakes, lava, and destructive winds destroying civilization until only the faithful survive. I thought this cult all but extinct and the evil god Tharizdun, which is better known as the Elder Elemental God was trapped in the Demiplane of Imprisonment. But again these are just stories in books. But never the less a part of our worlds history.
