Zamanda, do you mean on the battle map or the city map? (I just did a lot of updates on the city map. For the battle map, it's to the west.)
Also, FYI, I'm going to be offline most of the next thirty-six hours. Heading out the Shenandoah and cell reception out there is horrible.

Zamanda |

I meant the battle map. Thank you.
Have fun on your trip. :)

Bashiel Eland |

Hey have fun Snow! Shenandoah is pretty fantastic.

GM Snowheart |

Thanks. It's a belated 10 year anniversary "trip". Just finished our second winery. Off to the next one.

GM Snowheart |

Honestly I intended to finish it in one post, but I expected 6 or more rounds of rolls with a lot more narrative. The first card (out of 15) that I could have pulled was literally the worst possible for Trinia and the best possible for Bashiel.
Happy it worked out that way. I'm not sure they could have caught up with her otherwise.

Varor |

Really? Really? I waited for anyone, literally anyone, to realize and point out that you left Varor knocking at Trinia's front door, and not a single one of you did. Is Varor really that unlikable to you guys, that you'll just leave him at a door? Is that all he matters to you? (Sarcasm. Heavy, heavy sarcasm.)

Zamanda |

I was inside the building wondering the same thing, but then the DM hand-waved all of the coming down part, and Bashiel said "and alerting the rest of the group (or at least anyone who hasn't been alerted yet)."
That, I thought, made it clear that we had been called, and left it open for us to renter the conversation, because of the "alerting."

Bashiel Eland |

Yep! We didn't leave you behind Varor, everyone got alerted.

Quinlan |

Sorry if I'm a few posts behind... Husband is in surgery today and probably won't be able to post again til late tonight or tomorrow... Again, sorry for any delay - feel free to bot me to keep the action moving...thanks.

GM Snowheart |

Hey Quin, as I said in the other game's thread, no worries and I hope all goes smoothly. Family comes first.

GM Snowheart |

No worries! I realized this morning we'd missed you and I was hoping all was okay.

![]() |

Looks like I got behind on the posting and missed the plan.
I thought we had a discussion about getting her out of the city or getting her to Cressida. I know a few of us had said we wanted to honor our agreement with Cressida.
I guess I missed that the get her out of the city vote won...

Bashiel Eland |

Glad to hear everything went well on your husband's surgery Quin!
@Ilsa, I'm not sure the 'spiriting her away' argument won so much as we made a compromise between the two. We honored our agreement to Cressida by finding Trinia and evaluating whether she's guilty using magical tools. She was vague about what to do after that, so I figured even the rule-following Bashiel could argue the need to take action to protect Trinia first and convince Cressida it was the right choice afterward.
"You begin to see the sensitivities involved here. I do not want to put you in a position of being seen to act subversively, but... we need to know the truth. Hopefully, once we have her someplace safe, one of you will have the ability to question her magically. If not, I may be able to release some supplies from the Guard's reserves. If she's guilty, we take her to the Longacre Building for trial. If not... we'll cross that bridge when we come to it."

Kalem Darkborn |

Yup. We could also argue (or bluff?) that it would be far too dangerous to bring her back. That the hellknights have eyes and ears everywhere. The Queen will find her if she is taken anywhere official. So in effect, we were following orders when we had her spirited away. And no, we don't know where. Because again, the fear that we could be used by said hellknights to learn her location.

![]() |

Right...thanks for the explanation. Perhaps we could convince Trinia to wait somewhere safe while we let Cressida know what we did. That way, Cressida doesn't feel like we went rogue on her.

Zamanda |

Unfortunately, Cressida is probably in the same spot we are in. If she knows where Trinia is, she will be obligated, and it will be much messier for her. Hopefully she'll be relieved that it is out of her hands. In any case, even if she is angry... are we willing to risk an innocent girl's life?

Kalem Darkborn |

Well...we could lie? That we took her in. Did our charm magic, and that she is certainly innocent. However, she escaped when we were bringing her back. We were able to track her to the docks, but her tracks went cold there.
So as far as Cressida would be concerned, the girl is probably innocent. And she's skipped town. But on which ship? Who knows. Probably not worth her time looking into that, because by the time she figures it out the girl will be looooong gone.
Both Zamanda and Kalem could potentially pull the lie off...
-------------
Also, unrelated note. I was thinking about Kalem's character arc. I tend to play characters by ear, doing what *feels* right. And right now, it feels like he's happy leaving the streets and being on the right side of the law. The medal of course, doubles down on this. After so long being a third class citizen, having actual respect is intoxicating. I know that Bashiel is a guard. Would it be possible for Kalem to also join the guard? I could see it as being a good cop/bad cop routine. The straight-edged sergeant, and the private who is proud to wear the uniform, but has alot less respect for the letter of the law.
It would also fit the feat plan that I put together for him. Just found out about the 'bracing shield' feat, which would eventually let him use a halberd and heavy shield at the same time (two handed power attack with heavy shield AC!). That kind of combination really feels like something that a guard would use.

Zamanda |

We probably could pull it off, but speaking from a player perspective and not necessarily my character's perspective, I think that it's better to try it Bashiel's way... and we don't have to lie if we truly don't know where she is. We found her, we proved she was innocent, and then, if necessary, we tell her we asked Vencarlo to protect her. Vencarlo is Cressida's friend, so we aren't throwing him under the bus, and we know nothing (for sure) beyond that.

GM Snowheart |

I... have an idea, Kalem. I don't want to spoil anything though. Let me think about it. Could be something that puts him on the right side of justice while still being...Kalem-y.

Varor |

Yeah I can already see how this compromise is going to go. We tell the guard that we found nothing, the guard has to investigate, someone spots mw out as the culprit. I get taken in, thrown into jail, and get excommunicated from the church via execution.

GM Snowheart |

FYI - I'm playing solo dad Saturday through Wednesday, and covering for our person who does payroll at work, so my posting may be a bit slow the next few days.

GM Snowheart |

Switching this over to the discussion thread.
I'm also a little bit floored, I have to admit. I don't think anyone is trying to steal anything from other players. Rather, when it seems like there's a consensus about moving forward, people are helping to facilitate that.
I also didn't see that as rushed, certainly not on the part of another player. On the contrary, I was the one who had Trinia and Vencarlo leave. Nobody pushed that except me.
If an important moment is missed and it hasn't been too long since ones last post, a simple "Hey, can we back up just a little?" But the aggressive snark is not a good way to handle it.

Varor |

Yeah "stealing my thunder" was not the best choice of words there, and I didn't notice the get everyone together thing in the post, I don't know how I missed that. Okay that's not true, I just wasn't paying enough attention, but that's still my fault.

Zamanda |

I apologize. I just looked at the spell and it is way more Nerfy than I remember. At our level it only works within about 500 feet. I probably should have just let you give your dagger away instead of being paranoid about her getting caught.

Quinlan |

so are we all copacetic now? I am easily upset by ooc intergroup squabbles. Just want to move on now and put this behind us if we can.

![]() |

Hey all,
I'll be vacationing with the family Wednesday through Monday for Fall Break in Chicago and surrounding areas.
The itinerary makes it look like I'll have little time to post. Feel free to bot me!

GM Snowheart |

Aaaaaaand.... I came down with the flu yesterday. Trying to catch up on my games this morning. Will have something up soon.

GM Snowheart |

@Snow: I just looked back and realized that you mentioned we took some stuff off Trinia, including a magic wand. But we never got the full list. Its possible we would have given things back to her in order to help her escape, but its probably best to know what exactly was found before we decided that as a group (retroactively :>)
Wouldn't you like to know? Muahahahah.
...
Okay, yeah...
She had...
Masterwork Mithril Dagger
Potion of Jump
Potion of Shield of Faith +3
Wand of Daze Monster (10 charges)
+1 mithril shirt
3 daggers
and some jewelery and coins.

Quinlan |

Quinlan is of the mind we've no cause to take her things, but you may outvote him if you wish.

Bashiel Eland |

I agree, Bashiel is (unsurprisingly) on the 'don't take things from innocent people' train.

Zamanda |

I'm with everyone else so far... let Trinia keep her stuff.

Bashiel Eland |

Well, it looks like give everything back is the winner.
@Snow: Can we just assume we returned everything to Trinia off-camera? It'd be weird trying to give everything back now. :>

Varor |

Sorry guys I get busy with family stuff during the fall and I never know when so I can plan ahead, that's why I haven't posted in the last two days.

Varor |

Again, I'm sorry I wasn't able to keep track for the past two days, if I had I would have pointed out that setting up a meeting with cultists apparently alone would have been a bad idea and suggested that somebody should be there with him. characterize that's smarts because as as a former thief Varor would know that setting up solo meetings like that is a genuinely life-threatening idea. And meta wise I've been in this situation before in a different campaign where I set up the solo meeting and I ended up nearly assassinated in a forest fire.

Zamanda |

Varor, that's cool if you think that someone should be with him, but you don't have a good bluff. You being there could sabotage the effort. If I went with him, would that make it safe enough that you wouldn't insist on being there yourself?

Pellius Alazario |

The other issue is that I believe everyone else was onboard with Kalem going solo. We’ll be watching him from just about every angle. We’ve also got the scrolls of Locate Object should we need to find him if he gets out of eyesight. Another problem with having two people at the meeting is if the cultists split you up, we may not be able to track both of you at the same time.

Varor |

Alright alright I'll change it to say I'm hiding somewhere. I may be a passive-aggressive jackass, but when I'm in the wrong, I'm in the wrong.

Bashiel Eland |

Yeah, I am getting logged out all the time. Also the site seems to be down a few hours every day.
